Though we've been coming here for years (It's now a Pet Station), this is my first review. Way overdue! Always pleasant and helpful, the staff makes you feel welcome, as should be the case. Chase helped me out today and was friendly and conversational. Inflation has hit all of us and they do their best to keep prices within reason, though our dog food (Zignature) when up almost 15% since we last bought. Again, not their doing. A great place with an ample selection of pet food and supplies. They also have pet washing stations for you to use. Great location in the NW, ample parking and convenient hours. read more

I really love Scraps Dog Company. I've got to be honest, when it comes to normal pet supplies, I do shop elsewhere. When I'm in the mood for something extra special, I come here to spoil the fur babies! Recently, my boyfriend's dogs turned 10! I wanted to celebrate them in style. I wanted to get them a cupcake and some elk antlers. Other antlers I've seen look cheap or gnarly. The price is usually the same as the box stores so I'd rather my money stay local. When I went in to Scraps, I was able to get a pup-cake (puppy cupcake, see what I did there?) right on the spot. They make them and freeze them. They even have different colored wrappers if you're going with a theme and want to match. I also did purchase 2 elk antlers. I like these treats as they stink far less than bones and the dogs love getting in to the middle of the antlers. I think these are not well-known dog treats. I walked out with the pup-cake and the antlers, happy as can be. The service was great. I was asked several times if I needed anything or if I had any questions. While this isn't my normal spot, I know that they have a doggy wash area. For 15.00 you get two towels and access to their doggy wash station. It works similar to a car wash, where the soap and water are dispensed by a switch in the front of the station, out of a central hose. There isn't a way to adjust the water temperature, so Westley just had to deal with a luke warm bath. There is also a hose to use that blows air to help dry your pup. I wish that it blew warm air instead of just cold air, but it was better than just using the towels. There are also smocks to use, which I should have thought to use before I started. This was easier on my back and it wasn't too hard to clean up afterwards. I don't think you have to clean up after your pooch, but he was pretty muddy and left a lot of fur in the wash basin. The convenience of this bath station after taking him to the muddy dog park was worth it to me. There are other shampoos and conditions available for free usage as well, which I took advantage of. He also got a treat for being such a good pup. When we checked out, they threw in a doggy valentines and card that was good for 10% off our next purchase. read more

Wow. The new location is incredibly huge. Scraps isn't just for doggies. They have pet supplies for all kinds- hamsters, guinea pigs, and cats. This store is about four times the size of the old shop. Nice, clean and easy to manage. The dog selection was fantastic- so many different sizes in doggie coats and in styles. They also had the usual toys and personal care products. (Sheela loves their liver flavored toothpaste) And SO MANY treats. Prepackaged or individual specialty treats. A two cup bag of pepperoni all natural mini bones was only $1. Naniece and her staff are always wonderful. They truly enjoy your pet as much as you do. And are always available to help find anything you need or answer any pet questions. And spoil your furry little one with small treats. Huge thanks to Naniece for having Santa come in and sit with the little nippers for some great holiday pictures. Tired of the big box stores and chains? In my experience this place has been pretty good. My dog loves going here because she knows she always gets a few treats or two at the counter. I actually don't buy much here because I usually find it cheaper online. What I come here for is the self grooming station for my dog. For $15 it comes with 2 towels and access to their grooming station which has a hose that sprays out water and shampoo and a blow dryer. You can clip your dog in the station, which I find useful because my dog usually tries to escape. The blow dryer is especially convenient because my dog has long hair so even with 2 towels she isn't dry. read more

I prefer to shop local, and some staff here are very helpful and professional. Unfortunately, I have found one particular person very condescending during several visits to this store. As a relatively new first time dog owner, I asked what she thought about a particular treat, and how many would she give a dog? She very condescendingly said, "Well, only 3 or 4, or you'll have a fat dog". Everyone can have bad day, but this person seems consistently rude and not helpful in the least. After being told this store specializes in healthy treats, I was very disappointed to come home with bone stuffed with a fake peanut butter-type filling, with corn syrup listed as the first ingredient listed. read more

I wanted to support local and go to store that I thought might have superior knowledge and food than a big box store. I walked in and a lady with red hair asked me if I need help. I said," yes what food would you recommend for a 3 month old soft Wheaton terrier?" She looked at me like I was an idiot and said," 3 months old, she's a puppy so obviously puppy food." I told her the way you just spoke to me is not okay. I know she needs puppy food but I didn't know if you had any recommendations for her specific breed. I will be going somewhere else. I completely believe in supporting local small business, however, I'm willing to toss that out the window when the local store consistently delivers some of the most atrocious customer service that I've ever encountered. Rather than lumping everything awful into a single run-on review I thought it would be easier to break down into chunks, or mini-dog turd-like snippets. Staff On a poo size scale from Chihuahua to Great Dane their customer service (or total lack thereof) craps in closer to Irish Wolfhound. Straight up rude is an understatement and really doesn't do them justice. Nearly every visit (and there have been PLENTY) I have either been ignored at the counter so that employees can continue their private conversations (heated discussions over the best way to pull the bugs out of their asses, I'm guessing), or stood and waited for Jane Genius to match the item I was purchasing to a price sheet stored in a three ring binder (the 80s called and they want their Trapper folder back). In short - the customer service is complete shite (a.k.a. slang for poop in the UK). Pricing When Team Canine Curmudgeon isn't pre-occupied with being abrasive to their clientele you can find them marking up products. Frankly, if the customer service was great I wouldn't mind paying a bit more, but since I can purchase the exact same pet food online and without shipping costs, receive it the next day and walk away with some dignity (no tail between your legs when you buy from Wag.com - love that place) I can't justify the spend. In short, stepping into this store and encountering the people that run it is a lot like putting your foot in a steaming pile of dog shit. You want to get rid if the smell, wipe it off and change into a new pair of shoes. And, that's exactly what I've decided to do. So I went to scraps dog Company today only to be completely disappointed in the knowledge of the staff and ownership. I left there completely disgusted and felt belittled by their staff. I asked about a CBD product for dogs. I was told by the owner and a staff member that it's not their job to know about the product they sell, it's my job to know about the product.they sell. I was in complete shock. They should really know what they're selling to their customers, instead they hand me a brochure about the product. I asked about if there was any THC in the product, as I do not want to get my dog high. They start talking about the FDA. They seem to know plenty about the FDA but not about their product or about the farm bill that just passed in February about the product. This is a locally owned business, I am completely supportive of a locally owned business but without their knowledge in the product they're selling leaves me to believe that they don't care about their customers are not good business owners so now they've forced me to shop elsewhere. read more

This is the most comprehensive pet store I have come across in a while. Everytime I travel I like to see what new pet items different stores have. This store has everything and they are open to hearing about new products and probably have them displayed somewhere in their store. Came here just looking to see if they had cakes for my two pugs that were turning 1 in three weeks and was throwing a party for them. I did not need the cakes right away but the older woman who works here rolled her eyes at me like if I was an idiot and said we always have cakes like if she was upset that I wasn't there to purchase something that exact day. Was visiting from out of town and since our frenchton(french bulldog/boston terrier) was stuck in our hotel room for the past 2 days and we had a 2 hour drive ahead of us, we thought she deserved a little something. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked if we needed any help. We got on the subject of my dogs breed and they explained they are involved in nevadas french bulldog rescue which is AWESOME. I was even happier that this happened to be the pet spot we stopped at. We bought 2 KONG toys, 2 big dried sausage links (for our big dogs at home) and a bunch of wheat free treats which came to 20 bucks after tax. I felt like I wouldve spent the same at petsmart but I got great customer service! They also showered our baby with love and treats, which of course she loved. Great alternative to your boring old pet store and you can tell they really have a passion for animals. If I lived in reno this would be my go to even if it was out of the way. I love giving my business to places that truely love their animals and are involved in rescues. The cashier told me they have rescued over 30 frenchies and between all the employees they have 13! I am so excited I have found such an awesome local dog store near me! I've come in multiple times with my puppy, and the workers have always been very helpful with me and friendly with my pup. They also all seem very knowledgable about the products and are happy to help answer questions and give recommendations. The store carries lots of healthy dog food brands, and it has a great selection of toys and other accessories. My pup turns a year old tomorrow, and today I went in and got her the cutest doggy birthday cake! Every time we go in, I get great service and leave with awesome products, and my pup has the best time! read more

I only give one star because the store is nicely set up and organized...HOWEVER, not only are they overpriced but the cashier took a call as I was walking up to the register and continued to talk on the phone the entire time I was checking out, the entire time the guy behind me was trying to ask her a question, and I can see is still on the phone while ringing up other customers. I have supported Scraps since they opened even with the red haired owner being friendly one day and the next day a unprofessional witch, her manager with long blonde hair is rude as well, very condescending, unprofessional, and clueless. Today is the last straw not one time but two times I was charged the wrong prices on items.The first time I called the blonde told her of the mistake she said they had changed prices she's doing the best she can. I told her she has to honor the price on the item. She got all upset. I went back the next day the owner payed me the difference. Today another over charge. When I told them of their mistake the blonde wanted to give me store credit not refund my money. I told her I don't want credit because I will not be returning ever again please void my transaction! She then said to me what is it every time you come in you want to pick a fight! I just moved to Reno, and there's a store location around the corner. I've received nothing but good customer service, being greeted as soon as I walk through the door. We have been going to scraps on Virginia for a while now and I have to say the difference between the two is day and night. I have a five month old puppy who is full of love and energy and we came in to get a no pull harness. We were hounded by an older woman with red hair. She snapped at us and said "well puppies need training". Our puppy has had 7 weeks of training with one of the best trainers in Reno and she passed with flying colors. She also 5 months and full of energy so the judgement was not needed. I then asked for help with picking out a harness and got told "well no she's just going to grow out of it". I of course knew that but also wanted my puppy to be able to go on walks with me without trying to choke herself. Finally the woman decided she would help us. She then took us over to them and I mentioned how her trainer suggested this style as the nose gentle leader didn't go well. She scolded me AGAIN and said she's known my trainer for years and that my trainer hates the harnesses. I don't know what she was trying to prove but i just wanted a harness for my dog and was following my trainers advice.... she made me and my Boyfriend feel judged and like we had no clue what we were doing! We have had five dogs between the dog of us two of us and years of education about them. We don't know everything but know dogs need training and that they grow! I will NEVER go back to this location. I adore the Virginia location and will continue to go to that one even if it's an extra 15 minute drive. This is not the first bad review I've seen about customer service at this location and would highly recommend the company look into this. read more

Couldn't get our new rescue dog Max to eat after three days. I visited Scraps and the staff fixed me up with a plethora of free dog kibbles and one purchased can of wet food that when mixed with the kibbles got my new pooch to eat it al. I will start off by telling you a little about my previous years of being a customer of Scraps Dog Bakery at the Mae Anne and McCarren location. But a little note about myself. I am a wildlife ecologist. I don't feed my dog anything but grain free high end foods. And always check the label to see where it was produced. I guess you could say I am the guy in the store that will look up every review of a product, , before I buy it, And as long as I have the extra $5-$15 or so to throw down for the best quality stuff I do. The most expensive bag of dog food I had bought at that location cost me around 90 bucks. Didn't blink an eye though. First discovered in 2008 after I adopted my dog from the SPCA: WOW awesome selections! Toys for every type of behavioral needs a dog or cat could want. Pricey, sure. What do you expect, it's a mom and pap store. The older/shorter lady that works there is an angel. She was so helpful, and nice. And always loved Tolkein coming in the store. second discovery also 2008: was shopping for some smart toys and another lady helped me by the name of nenet. (sp?) She seems to be very knowledgeable, but not very good at speaking with people. Mentioned that my dog is about to pass the beginner dog training course at petSmart. She gave me the oh really vibe. Most likely cause I was still in the middle of the re-training tolkein on how to be a functioning member of society out side of the JOINT. (once you get behind those bars there is somethin' that messes with a pup... just doesn't come out 100% like when it came in) So needless to say he was very interested in everything we were doing and EVERYTHING else going on around us. After knowing him now, he was just overstimulated. Any who- that was weird encounter one. 3rd encounter in 2009: Was in the store when I over heard nenet talking to another employee about a customer they where 'apparently having trouble with. Didn't think much of it except- that kind of talk should be happening in the back room away from customers. Or not at all, because it was quite unpleasant for me to hear. From then on I would always try to avoid her because she always talks in a condescending tone to me every time, UNLESS I have an 50lbs of dog food on my shoulder (oh you buy expensive-I treat you nice, BullS) But the largest issue was that I still wanted to support a local business instead of a large corporation, so I would always just pray she wasn't at the front counter when ever I would go in. And if she was I would be-line it to what I wanted and to the register , check out and leave. in the inter-rum from then on things went that way. I still recommended people to go there because I didn't know any other place in town. last occurrence 2012: I had my mother pick up his dog food for the month because I work 2 jobs. (she also adopted a dog and had it for about 3 years before it died of old age, only place she would ever buy food is this scraps location. granted she does like to pick up knew samples from time to time or for back up in case we miss judge when the food bags get empty, but I am pretty sure a lot of people do that. Her dog passed away last year, so she really had no reason to go in there any more) Anyway. Pretty much the worst customer service situation you could think of. My mother goes in and starts looking around. Nenet asks in a condescending tone "can I help you with anything? " Mom politely says no I am just browsing right now thanks. Then says yes! Can you tell me about this new sample you guys have? Nenets response was "I am pretty sure we have given you all the samples we have, do you want to start your dog over on another food?" "um, no... Never mind." She proceeded to meander around the store reading this bag and that bag. Then Nenet came over again to say something. Needless to say the rest of the conversation would have gotten any person, even a person with tenure-fired. And interestingly that's exactly what Nenet did you my mother. Fired her from the store as a customer for asking for too many samples and not buying enough product. Nenet even mentioned that every time they see my mother park her car they snicker and say "bet ya she's gonna want samples again!" I don't 100% know what occurred during the last confrontation, nor did I even put in the second half of it, cause it got a lot worse. Now in no way am I sticking up for either person. but after getting to know nenet over the years of me shopping at that store, and knowing my mother, I knew my mother didn't say anything rude to her at all. Perhaps blunt, but not rude or accusatory, or hurtful. Because of this altercation I wont EVER recommend anyone go to any Scraps Dog Company again. I know, one person usually doesn't warrant that type of statement, but she is a co-owner. I will share my story and experience with anyone who will listen and gladly suggest another another establishment. read more

My experience with the owner of Scraps Dog Bakery was uncomfortable and I am embarrassed for her that she would be so extremely rude and disrespectful to the very people who are or may keep her in business. I went into the Longley and Virginia Scraps store Tuesday evening. I found a dog bed in a size medium, I thought this particular bed may work for my dog but I needed a large. The employees called the Mae Anne Scraps location to see if they had a large. They did. It was almost closing time at this location so I spent $155.00 on dog food and other items at the Longley and Virginia store. I then went up to the Mae Anne store. It was almost closing time for the store, about 5:50 pm. I purchased the bed and a matching blanket from a very nice lady named Bobbi. The purchase totaled about 250.00 plus dollars. I took the bed home, my dog didn't want anything to do with the bed as I think he didn't like the material. I then showed up the VERY next morning at opening time which is 10:00 am. I walked into the store with the items to be returned. I was met by a red headed woman who was abrasive, abrupt, irritated, annoyed and everything opposite of how an owner, or even an employee should value and/or greet a customer. I asked the one lady, Bobbi, she seems very annoyed, is that the owner .... employee answered yes. I said that makes me uncomfortable.... Employee kind of disappeared, probably embarrassed of the behavior she was witnessing. I told the owner that she makes me very uncomfortable and that she seems very annoyed .... she insincerely and abrasively and abruptly says, I'm sorry, proceeds with my refund that I decided to get as I decided not to do business where I am tolerated and not celebrated. The owner continued throughout the refund transaction to have a miserable unhappy and unappreciative attitude, and not an I'm sorry one. I left that place of business feeling terrible .... not because of my return, but because the owner is downright miserable and mean. After spending a total of about 350.00 and returning about 250.00 there are other places in Reno I can go to spend my money and be appreciated, whether I'm purchasing or returning. From now on I will never shop in Scraps as long as mean redhead is the owner .... I can go to Pawsitively Pets at Damonte Ranch or the small business out by Raleys at Galena, a specialty animal store there. read more

I tend to be loyal customer even if prices are a little higher than other places because I want to support my local store. I just don't understand why the people at Scraps treat me like I'm a new customer every time I walk in the door. I get the same things every two weeks and they act like they have never met me before. It's not like the prices attract me to the store, I just like the convenience and the merchandise they have there. The people at the store are kind of mean and just not friendly. If they want to stay in business, I would probably just suggest that they are more personable because the prices won't keep customers coming back. read more

I've been buying my dog food from Scraps the last two years because of the convenience (nearby) and the selection...having the top quality brands in stock. I joined their program to earn a complimentary bag of dog food to be obtained once I purchased ten bags of the same brand and size. I met the purchase requirement (bought my 10th bag) and was then told "the required number of purchases is twelve'! This was not the case when I signed up for the program nor was it less than a month ago when I purchased my 9th bag. In any case, those that started the program needing only ten purchases should have been grandfathered in and only those starting after the 12 purchase requirement would be need to make the additional purchases. This is a breach of contract and not legal. Will they require 15 purchases once you reach 12? There are no "deals" at Scraps and the purchase program was the only incentive to keep shopping there.
