I am really surprised by the number of great reviews that I see here on Yelp! I was looking first for cupcakes and Susie's Cakes is now closed so I found that Scratch Bakery Cafe had a number of good reviews and 4-5 stars. Figured I'd get my boyfriend a nice, small birthday cake that we could enjoy and share with others. Well, I have to say that the sales associate was very helpful so I'll give her 5 stars for great customer service since I'd never been there before and was relying on her advice for different flavors. I was actually looking for Red Velvet cakes but they don't have that available. The cake was more like frosting and not a cake. Beautifully decorate on the outside but when we cut into it, I asked, "Where's the cake?" It was nothing but frosting! For those people who love frosting, then this is the bakery that you want to go to. If you want European style bakeries, go for Heidelberg in Laguna HIlls or French's Bakery which had several locations. Yes, the frosting was nice and light but I didn't spend the money to get that. This is our favorite breakfast spot! My go to is the breakfast sandwich, the English muffins they make are unlike anything else. The biscuits and gravy are also to die for, and my boyfriend orders them every time. They also have amazing pastries and coffee! I would highly recommend the dirty chai latte with oat milk. We've been coming here pretty frequently over the past year but today the owner, Ronny, ran our food out to us and took time to introduce himself. I'm sorry. This place was totally over priced. We ordered a a cake for 20 at my sons bday but instead got a coffee cup. Don't get me wrong it looked great but $40 for this cake was outrageous. We really enjoy their breakfast but yesterday we placed a doordash order using a time-limited doordash credit my wife had on her acct, which also happened to expire yesterday. 30 minutes after the order was supposed to be available, Scratch cancelled the order and provided no reason. Because they did it late this morning, we lost the credit we had on our account. I called and asked what was up with Doordash orders and was simply told "we aren't doing doordash today". I have already reviewed Scratch Bakery however, after my last visit it's worth a new review. I don't stop by that often (a little out of my way) but when I do I normally order a ham and cheese croissant. If it's your first time there and you need to try just one thing, that's what I'd recommend. There are so many delicious items it really is difficult to choose just one thing but I'll stick with the ham and cheese croissant. That said, this trip I ordered a bacon, egg, cheese on a scratch made English muffin. That was a delicious, completely satisfying and wonderful sandwich. Fluffy, pillowy egg, with perfectly crisp salty, and chewy bacon, with melty cheddar cheese between a delicious scratch made English muffin. The sandwich is a bit on the pricey side $6.95 for the sandwich however if you compare it to a local McFastFood joint their sandwiches will run you $5.99 (mane except the occasional deals). I'm Amy case, the freshness, quality, and taste is worth the extra $1.00 you'll spend for the sandwich. I forgot to mention that the portion was a good size. You won't walk away hungry. I stumbled upon this bakery after a long shopping trip in the same plaza! I was looking for something to satisfy my sweet tooth! I ended up getting a slice of the hazelnut cake! I was intrigued by the flavor because I haven't found a hazelnut cake anywhere else! The cake was very tasty, and decorated so well! Additionally, The customer service was excellent! I've ordered biscuits and gravy almost every month. I've probably spent over $200 in meals with your business. When you add extra sugar to an original recipe, it signals a sellout. Sugar is a drug, and it has negative effects the more you have. We are in a society that is shifting towards good recipes and creative chefs that can create foods that are good, without it. Stopped for a Mocha while waiting for cars' oil-change, wasn't expecting overly much, but the Mocha my wife and I both had was splendid. Just ordered from door dash and I got two soggy pieces of French toast and in between, one slice of Swiss cheese, a ridiculously thick slice of ham and a pathetic slice of turkey. It's not even cut in half. No jam, no powdered sugar and honestly not even close to a Monte cristo. I had to cut it in half to eat it and it fell apart the second I picked it up. The hash brown I was given was also soggy and fell apart. Definitely not worth the $13 I spent. Yikes! Do better.... read more

So I haven't Yelp'ed in a while...having a kid has slowed me down some but I had to make it a point to highlight this amazing bakery! While visiting the area myself and some friends stopped here. We were blown away at the amount of selection and freshness. I'm not sure I've ever had a Croissant that flaky and buttery. It was so delish we made an additional detour to revisit the bakery before our flight home. Since leaving we have tried to convince the owner to ship us some goodies. Lol! Nice customer service but not so much of delicious meal. I had avocado toast. But they had added a spice that tasted really bad/awkward. They served the meal on papers that looked like newspaper. That made me feel uncomfortable too! Dropping food on a dirty newspaper (can't pick it up now) Husband ordered cheese, bacon breakfast sandwich. He didn't like it either. Let me start off by saying that the cashier was very sweet and the service was great. But I ordered a almond croissant and an iced americano ( because their nitro cold brew machine was broken). That croissant was the densest croissant I have EVER had. It had no flakiness what so ever. I honestly didn't feel like I was eating a croissant. It was just so stale. Costco has better croissants than here. The iced americano wasn't any better. It tasted burnt and acidic. read more

I work at the hospital right next to the cafe and stopped by to try it for the first time on my lunch break. It wasn't to busy and had a few customers sitting inside at tables. I also noticed the workers standing in the back talking in a group (don't know if it was a crew meeting or if they were just standing around talking) but they were there for quiet some time. I browsed the menu and finally decided on a panini sandwich but quickly learned that they only have one option of panini left and they were out of the others. So I decided to settle for the turkey club. It took a while for the very nice girls at the counter to get my card to work since my chip is having difficulty being read lately even tho they were told by another co worker to insert the chip 3 times and then swipe. After finally paying, I waited for my sandwich but only noticed the workers still standing around talking to one another. Then 5-6 minutes later the very nice girl behind the counter apologized for the wait and told me that my sandwich was being made. I finally received my sandwich about 4 minutes later and hurried out the door because I was already over my lunch time at work. When I finally sat down at work to eat I unwrapped my food to find the bread burnt to a crisp and almost un-edible. The rest of the sandwich looked great! Just wish I was able to eat it with the VERRY burnt bread. I know working in the food industry is hard and I usually almost never complain. But the service I saw today looked very un-trained. If I could give a suggestion to the manager/owner of this very cute bakery is to please train the staff more and make sure the bread on your sandwiches isn't burnt to a crisp. I will come back tho and try it again tho. Maybe it was just an off day. There is always room for a second chance! :) read more

I found this restaurant on a whim and have gone 3 Sundays in row. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious! My only, only complaint is that the sandwich has at least 2 eggs on it when ordered scrambled, but my husband ordered his with a medium egg and they charged him extra for it when it only comes with 1 egg. There is also no mention of this on the menu. Aside from that, the staff is great and gives great recommendations. And like I said before, the food is great. read more

Eaten here 3 times in the past 3 weeks since discovering it. I like a nice mom and pop bakery with quality ingredients. I'm a big fan of their ham&swiss croissant.
