I've been seeing Scratch Baking on social media quite a bit and finally had the chance to get there yesterday. It was later in the day when I went in, so some of the cases were not as full as I would imagine they are in the morning. However, I was still able to get myself a chocolate chip muffin to have for breakfast the next day. The muffin was hands down one of the best I've had! I put it in the microwave for a few seconds and enjoyed every bite! I definitely want to get back there earlier in the day and try other pastries and bakery items. read more

I placed an order for various pastries for pickup while I was in the area last weekend and everything was great! I have a gluten intolerance, and I was really impressed with their selection of gluten free pastries. I ordered a rainbow sprinkles Rice Krispies treat- maybe the best I've ever had honestly, a slice of gf zucchini bread with a side of honey butter- absolutely delicious and so moist and a gf peanut butter sandwich cookie- heavenly!! I also got my husband a cinnamon twist, which he loved and said it wasn't dry at all like some places tend to make them. I was glad that I placed an order ahead of time, as it was pretty busy even at 1:00 on a Saturday. My bag was ready and waiting for me when I arrived. Those scones have been invading my dreams! Just before Thanksgiving, my wife and I have a ritual. We jump on the Port Jeff Ferry (Yes, I'm from New York) have breakfast at Cracker Barrel and spend the day in Connecticut. We have a few favorite spots but this year we took a chance on Scratch Baking in Milford. What a find! First off, Milford is a very cute town. To have this wonderful bakery in the middle of it all puts the icing on the cake. (See what I did there?) Walking up, the line is out the door. People are getting their Saturday morning coffee and Thanksgiving baked goods. We get to the counter and I order a box of assorted scones, a Tres Leche Coffee, a bag of home made granola and a cranberry nut rye bread. I was served quickly and we're on our way. Sunday morning, I served the scones. Everyone flipped! So moist and flavorful, they were a homerun hit. Me? I'm thinking ahead. Thanksgiving arrives and everyone comes over. The only thing I'm thinking of is getting all the dishes in the dishwasher and saying goodbye to my guests. Now I'm alone with the Turkey. I toast two pieces of my cranberry nut rye bread. I layer some cranberry, stuffing, turkey and homemade gravy to create my annual Thanksgiving sandwich. This ritual is on repeat for a few days. Scratch Baking? I cannot wait to return. read more

I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the reviews, it's probably something I missed... but there is NO SEATING. This place is strictly a 1. You place an order and pick it up OR 2. You order in person, wait for it, and leave. I wasn't expecting that, I wanted some place to hunker down and work so that's on me. But since I was already there I decided to try one of the lattes, a breakfast sandwich, and the brownie of the week- which I thought was cute! Everything impressive! The breakfast sandwich was filling and delicious. The latte wasn't too sweet, it was very smooth. After seeing a TikTok video that suggested scratch was really a great place to go, I went again, for the third time. I walked in to one person taking orders with another 10 working in the kitchen, many not supporting customers. There were 11 people waiting for the orders with a few employees fulfilling the orders. I ordered a cappuccino, a bagel with butter (where is the butter) and. Blueberry muffin. It took 11 minutes to get my order. The bagel was delicious, chewy, soft and tasty. The butter was barely visible and certainly not tastable The cappuccino was fine. I paid $14 which was fair The muffin crumbled into 50 pieces which is a product of over mixing and likely over baking. I'd come back for a bagel, not a muffin. The main issue i have with this bakery is that the staff isn't customer focused. They're laughing and having a great time when they should be taking and executing orders. This is by far the best coffee shop in Milford! We tried both hot and iced coffee, as well as, the breakfast pizza and chocolate croissants. Everything was delicious, the service was fantastic and even with a line out the door at 7 am I was in and out in no time. read more

Scratch baking has been on my bucket list for a while & really glad I got to visit! I ended up splitting the egg & cheese in a whole wheat type of bun. It felt very hearty & warmed up was great. I also had a brown sugar cinnamon latte, it was really good & not overly sweet either, to my liking. I also tried the gingerbread cookie sandwich, zucchini loaf, and cinnamon raisin sourdough loaf. Personally, my favorite was the zucchini loaf. It was not overly sweet & the edges had the perfect crust. I would definitely want to try the other items - such as their milk bread Wednesday special. THIS is THE BEST scone I have ever had. If you're someone from outside the northeast sick of paying $12,000 for a measly bite of a scone, this is the place for you. The scone I got was HUGE. Well, I took a chance trying to grab a babka on Christmas Eve day, when I was visiting a friend. I went online to see the menu and was delighted to find: 1. They have online ordering!!! 2. They have a large and varied selection!! 3. They had Buche de Noel available!!! I got a coffee, breakfast sandwich, babka and Buche de Noel. Everything was INCREDIBLE. High quality ingredients, flavorful, beautifully decorated. Expensive? Yes. Worth every penny? YES. The babka and Buche de Noel rival what you'd find at the better Manhattan bakeries. Yay! The Apple-Cinnamon Babka is back! The breads are the star of the show at this bakery--Honey-Flax, Sourdough, Demi-Baguettes, Parker House Rolls, Brioche. You can't go wrong. I don't eat a lot of sweets so scan other reviews for those tips. Grab-and-go container of chicken salad is a great lunch item and of course the sandwiches on their bread are tasty. The shop is busy so it's worth it to download the Toast app and order in advance for pickup. Your items will be waiting in a cubby for pick up. Very convenient. No indoor seating. Placed a mobile order for 3 coffees and 1 pastry when I was over 30 minutes away because I was passing through with my family on our way to an early funeral. The order was not ready when we got there and the online system said it would take over another hour to fulfill. Upon asking a woman at the front and the owner for an update, we were told that we would have to get in line (which was out the door and down the sidewalk) for them to start making our order. When we asked if we could cancel our order due to not having enough time, we were told that we could not. My younger sister tried to explain to the owner (Evan) that we were on our way to a funeral and he smugly told her that there was nothing they could do and to "have a nice day," which I found to be incredibly insensitive and she walked out of the place crying. Another patron of the cafe who was also waiting inside stopped us on our way out and explained that he saw what happened and said that he works at a similar establishment and would have never allow such treatment and was astonished by the staff's response to us. We were never offered a refund/cancellation option or an alternative solution and the attitude of the staff was rude and left my little sister in tears. I have worked in restaurants/customer service for over 10 years and have never experienced anything like this; asking customers to wait over 1.5 hours for 3 coffees and a scone is obscene and having a completely apathetic staff and ownership is the cherry on top of this terrible place. This is a cute and very tasty bakery! My husband and I were in town for the weekend and wanted some local coffee and pastries so decided to give this place a shot and are very happy we did! Got there about 9am on a Saturday and there still were plenty of fresh made items to choose from. They can make specialty coffee orders and my husband tried the strawberry lemonade which was delicious. We had a quiche (crust was excellent!), bagel, coffee cake, and blueberry muffin. Everything was delicious. We sat outside at one of their 2 street side tables. There is no inside seating, however there is the park across the street with additional places to sit. With a 4.5 Yelp Star rating, over a 100 reviews, and great looking food pics, Milford's Scratch Baking was an easy choice. I may have half-assedly stumbled across one of the better modern bakery cafes in the State. Scratch has stylish branding, and a cool inside presently set up for takeout business. They display beautiful pastries, loaves of artisanal bread, muffins, desserts, and bagels. I also saw a great sandwich and drink menu. As I was figuring out parking, I saw SB's magnetic effect pulling in all kinds of customers. That's always a great sign. The line moved quickly because of a friendly and efficient team. SB also had a prepaid self service pickup area. I devoured a delicious Savory Galette with seemingly marinated and cooked shiitake mushrooms, chives, a fresh, soft white, cheese (ricotta?) and salt flakes, all hugged by a terrifically flaky crust. Savory indeed! I also bought a chocolate pecan bar to share with my wife. The chocolate was rich and the bar had awesome texture. We both loved it! Delicious bakery in a lovely location in historic Milford! I got the turkey sandwich on the freshest bread and it came with a free cookie - chocolate buttery goodness. I brought my husband home a cheddar and chive scone and a chocolate chip cookie and he devoured them! Can't wait to go back and try more - their salads looked sooo good and come with a side of bread! The only downside is limited seating - there are four tables outside and a bar inside that seems more for quick grab to-go orders. I probably haven't written a review sooner because they don't need it like some businesses. This is a well established local bakery with lines out the door on the weekends. Most locals know to order ahead(on Toast app) during the week whether it's breakfast or lunch. I'd say as a family we eat here twice per week. For breakfast the pizza, sandwich and quiche are all very good and well executed. For lunch I'm either getting a salad or one of these rotating sandwiches. I don't have a go to because they're all great. High quality and again well executed, meaning the perfect balance of all ingredients. Okay finally the bakery. Every sandwich starts with the bread and they nail it almost every time. Since they started baking sourdough we pick up from them weekly. When they make sourdough varies but they have other breads. They have a few staples for those with a sweet tooth and we typically get a chocolate chip cookie and/or the holiday cookie. So many options here but their muffins and scones are also great. There's no where to sit inside but they've got a few tables and chairs out front and you can sit across the street at the picnic tables on the green. Final note, the owner seems to set the tone with a friendly staff and good vibe overall.
