I did not appreciate this place when I lived nearby, but moving away and having no real bakeries near me has now made me a fan of Royal. It's old school to the t. Not for modern day patisserie palettes but delicious nonetheless. Last visit I indulged in a walnut pastry and a fresh out of the oven crumb cake slice. I really enjoyed both of them and would return when in the area next. Glad they are still in business and going strong. Sunday around 11, there was a line. Great for them! The staff was pleasant enough, but the cannoli are very disappointing. The filling tastes slightly sour, and the shells have lost every vestige of crunch, even though they were served/eaten within about 20 minutes of pickup. I'd be embarrassed to bring them anywhere again. read more

Had some cupcakes from Royal bakery. Not bad. Not bad at all. It was my first experience with this bakery and since all I had was cupcakes, I can't really comment about anything else. The cupcakes themselves were good if a bit on the goey. side. I will say, for the record, it was the first time I've ever had a cupcake with blue frosting. It was very funny and mint and turned the color of my lipstick from pink to blue and neon blue with that. I would order from here again. Actually I haven't been inside so I can come in on the interior as my friend picked up the cupcakes. They're quite large in size which is a good thing because one cupcake will satisfy you unlike it other bakeries were sometimes the cupcakes can be on the smaller side. Amazing little hole in wall bakery my son and I found. Super fresh homemade bagels and breads that are very good. Lots of fresh pastry from cannolis to eclairs to Oreos dipped in chocolate filled with cannoli cream in middle. They also offer stuffed breads, variety of lovely cookies and a refrigerated section of cakes. For breads and bagels when they are gone they are gone. Ordered 3 dozen assorted pastries for a "drive by" shower! Initial person I spoke with kept putting me on hold and then hung up on me twice! I thought maybe breads wasn't their strength, so I'd give them another chance by trying their desserts. I bought large M&M cookies for my family. We all tried a bite and everyone (except for one of my kids) put them down unfinished. The cookies had no flavor or sweetness, and were so dry they were crumbling apart as we picked them up. It was the kind of recipe mistake I'd expect from a first time attempt in a high school baking class. I ate the apple danish before I took the picture but let me tell you, this place has excellent treats at an affordable price. $1.50 ea item is very good compared to Dunkin' Donuts which is way better and fresh. Mehh, my mom and I were driving back from Fairfield, we were stopped at a red light right in front of this bakery and it seemed busy, so we decided to make a pit-spot. We got a couple of each mini cream puff and hot cross buns and about a half pound of Italian cookies. While the buns and cream puffs were both very good..the cookies left A LOT to be desired!! I found it very strange that they had a paper written note on the pastry case that said all the cookies are made in a factory, hmm. Are all other bakeries Italian cookies made in factories as well?? We were very very disappointed when some of the cookies were very hard and stale! A couple of the cookies we had never had, so we weren't sure if they were supposed to be crunchy, but they were all hard and definitely not fresh. Some of the cookies had jelly filling and centers that had congealed to the consistency of a gummy bear, it was actually difficult to chew. Not sure if we'll be making another pit-stop here in the future. read more

One of my down falls is eating fresh bread. It was recommended from a friend to try this bakery. Being a bread lover, I have to say this place the best bread hands-down. From rolls to Italian bread, to French bread, everything here is fresh, crispy, and, just plain good. I use to get the small Italian round bread, I now get the large, oink, oink, it's that good. Many recommended this Bakery, so i ventured in this morning to get cupcakes for a birthday at work today. I was the only customer in the store and said good morning as I entered , but only to be felt like I was interrupting a conversation of the 2-young employees ( good help is hard to find these days!!). Unimaginable that someone actually did not like this bakery. I have been going here for years up until moving out of the area but still make it a point to put in an order when in town. We love, love, the Cannoli cookies. With the exception of a NY bakery which by the way no longer makes them, Royal Bakery is the only one I know of in CT that does. Their Linzer tarts are the best around. The Danish pastries also get high marks and are always included in my order. Nice variety too at reasonable prices. read more

We really like Royal Bakery! We had been going to another popular bakery and were consistently disappointed in the quality of the baked goods that we were purchasing. Usually we only get something from the bakery when we have company (or to bring with us if we are invited somewhere etc..) .... it was kind of embarrassing bringing stale cookies or pastries to a party. A good bakery in a convenient location! I always run in for a quick cookie or when I want to pick up a sweet treat for a friend. They have themed pastries whether it's for a holiday, a certain season or a nationwide event (like the super bowl). I also had their cannoli sandwiches which are to die for! Definitely check this place out. Their cakes are more flavorful than Stop and Shop, but still a little generic. Either way, they'll write anything on it and customize it as much a possible. The prices are cheap, but the quality is no lower in standard. Their staff is also friendly and will always give a good recommendation on what to get. read more

The chocolate chip cookies are my favorite. The apple strudels and the coffee cakes are SO good. I definitely can't forget about the rye bread w/ caraway seeds, which is a family favorite. The first time I went here, it was the first time in my life I ever left a bakery empty handed. There was little on display, and nothing special which is not good for a business that relies on visual-impulse purchases. The second time I tried it, we got cupcakes which were nothing special. The third time I was in here, they were unpacking cookies from a wholesale bakery right in front! That really undermines the idea that this is a bakery if the cookies are coming from a factory bakery! At least do it in the back room to keep it secret! I give up on this shop. read more

Horrible customer service:( I placed an order for quite a few stuffed breads, the pepperoni ones were so hard n stale compared with the others, it was like they were trying to just get rid of an older batch. I called in a week or so to speak to someone about the breads, the girl was very apologetic over the phone and assured me that it could be rectified, impressed; I placed an order and went to pickup a couple days later. I spoke with the owner and was shocked by her attitude, basically saying to me that I was lying about the condition of the two breads and said no one would say anything like that to me on the phone and she could not rectify the situation..so I bought my 70.00 worth of pre-ordered goods and will go elsewhere, so I don't have to gamble with a sometimes fresh and sometimes not so fresh product if I don't check each piece and a cantankerous, severely unprofessional and just rude 'management'..I guess she doesn't need the business .
