I drive in from Camas, WA, and my experiences have consistently reflected the level of service and care associated with the Nordstrom name. Unfortunately, today was very different. Every April, I treat myself to a birthday shopping trip and genuinely look forward to it. In the past, I've always been greeted promptly, assisted with sizes, and made to feel welcome. This time, no associate approached me--or any of the other middle‑aged women browsing nearby. Two employees stood at the register engaged in conversation, not helping anyone. I eventually interrupted to request a fitting room, but no one ever checked on me afterward. The lack of attention was surprising and disappointing, completely unlike any experience I've had there before. I left feeling invisible and disheartened, and I'm not sure I'll return. If this is the new norm, I'll need to find another way to celebrate my birthday going forward.

And in my head I was thinking that she was just grabbing random pants off the rack or they were other pants that customers were wearing so she put a clearance tag on it just to appease us. In my case I was facing the fat guys worst nightmare, being on television. Thankfully it is local cable access so hardly anyone will be watching but still, as a candidate for public office you have to look your best. They say television adds ten pounds but luckily for us fat guys what's another ten pounds, honestly. In we walked, the Wife and I, and we met Dawn, a fat guys best friend. Dawn is the single most knowledgeable person I have ever met about dressing the pear shaped. She was amazing and worked so hard to do the near impossible. Make me look mature and respectable. It took a while to nail down the outfit and we felt bad about taking up so much for her time but she kept telling us we didn't need to apologize and that she was enjoying doing her job. I want Dawn cloned and installed in every retail outlet in America. Casual Male isn't just all about service, they really do have wonderful clothes. Hip & cool stuff, athletic stuff, from dressy to, well, casual, as the name says. They even have Beatles shirts in my size! I thought for years that Paul and Ringo just didn't like big men, now I know it's just American retailers. Cologne? They have it. Watches? They have some nice ones of those too. Belts, shoes, socks, suspenders and swim wear too. Heaven. Morbidly obese heaven.

I don't know if this area is always here, or if it gets stocked when going from season to season, but it's worth checking out. Lots of pants, jeans, dresses, tops and skirts. But I was here for the denim dress! Found it and immediately went into the dressing room. Unfortunately it was too big, and the next available size was three sizes smaller, so I placed an online order for the next two smaller sizes to see which fit best. They processed the order there, making sure that I received the online discount plus free shipping to my house. Great service! The dresses arrived in a week, and one fit perfectly! A button up, shirt collar, midi dress in a fit and flare style, perfect with a pair of knee high boots. Love it! And true to Loft style, it's classic and timeless so I can wear for years to come. While there I checked out some corduroy pants in beautiful fall colors, tried on some jeans and sweaters, plus purchased a chocolate brown lace top to pair with a leather skirt I already own. I waited behind a single person getting checked out who was chatting with the cashier for 10 minutes about politics, life, sports, etc, after which they said "nice to meet you", (I thought they had been long time friends). The cashier finally got to me and I said I had an appt and he said oh then I'll take you to the other worker because I have to help these other people. The other worker said "what time is your appt" and I said 12:40. He said, with a brash tone, "well it's 12:25 so you can wait 15 minutes while I help this other guy". This other guy - who CAME IN AFTER ME AND DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. I was obviously like no, that's not how this works. I not only showed up before the other guy, I also had the foresight to make an actual appointment, and just because I'm 15 minutes early you're going to punish me, and be a complete jerk about it? The other guy behind me said it was fine, I should go first, so I did. The guy helping me then took my measurements and filled out a slip, gave it to me, and said to take it to the store in Chicago next weekend and they'll have my order ready for me. I literally said "are you sure this is all I have to do?", because it seemed too easy. And he literally said "yes." Next weekend I call the store in Chicago and they have NO ORDER IN MY NAME WHATSOEVER. The guy never put my order in. Fortunately the lady was very helpful and she got me fitted quickly and got a tux rental ready for me on the spot and it all worked out, but my entire trip to this store in clackamas was a complete waste of time, and I'm pretty sure that this vindictive guy intended on screwing me over. I suppose the moral is to show up for your appointment exactly at the appt time, even though that would mean you then would have to wait past your appt time because they'd be currently helping other people. I probably wore the pants 4 times and when I took them out of the wash, noticed the back seam was disintegrating and about to fall apart! I knew I'd had them awhile, (4 months) but decided to take them back to the store. Even if they wouldn't take them back, I wanted them to see the poor quality. They easily found my receipt with my phone number. The short story of it is that the manager took them back and gave me a store credit, which she said I HAD to use right then, today only. Ok. However, she seemed to find it necessary to admonish me and acted like I had done something wrong. Her words were "Technically, we should not be returning these" because it was past their 30-day return policy. She also decided to tell me she had the same pants and hers were in great shape atter 3 years. So- is she saying I damaged them or it's my fault? Is she saying I don't know how to properly launder my clothes? The tag said cold wash, tumble dry low, but I hung them to dry because I do that a lot anyway. I have many items from Athleta that are 5 or even 10 years old and still look great. I've spent money in this store for years and have rarely had to return anything. This manager was rude and should have said either that she couldn't honor the return, or be gracious about it. I don't need your lectures or you talking down to me.
