I have been shopping with them for nine years. Because I'm a snorkeler I don't bring in the mega bucks that Scuba equipment brings in, but I have been a faithful client. On several occasions items have been on backorder, not sent, etc. and I looked the other way. I recently had an issue with an order which was not handled properly, resulting in my dissatisfaction. However a manager reached out to me to make amends, which indicates that the company management does indeed care about repeat customers. This makes me happy, because it is still my intention to become Scuba certified, which means a lot of equipment to purchase. I've been an online customer for about 6 years. I try to support the local economy where I live, but sometimes it's hard to beat the selection and pricing from great online resources. Scuba.com beats their online competition in one key area - when you call them you get an actual human, in the U.S., who is also a substantially experienced diver, often an instructor. These folks see what works, day in and day out, they have the pulse of the market with a national footprint, and they are candid about the good, bad, pretty and ugly of what they stock. One other point, compared to their competition, they often have free standard shipping, so even if you are a price-only shopper, your total bill will often be lower than with other online suppliers. The only area of improvement I can recommend, is perhaps a website refresh- one product I am looking at was listed on the demo section at a great discount, but there was nothing on the main product listing to indicate that as an option. Having noted that, Darrick, the instructor I talked to directed me to the demo unit with the discount, so human service still trumps a slightly inefficient website. read more

They have a very interesting shop. All product is in the back warehouse and you select what you want them to bring up front via laptops that are logged onto their website. Kinda inconvenient if you don't know EXACTLY what you want but it allows for a huge selection. That being said, my item needed to be back ordered but it wasn't a big deal. Only true complaint is that I felt like an inconvenience since I kept having items brought to look at. Good selection though and helpful staff that brought up stuff that I may have liked since the one I wanted wasn't in stock. read more

I have been to Scuba.com multiple times since becoming certified in July with nothing but the best experience in customer service, knowledge and helpfulness. The store is not your average retail experience. Scuba diving is a sport that requires awareness of multiple details that are essential to having a safe and good experience. So with that in mind, all the guys (Aaron, Arthur, Bob, and everyone else I've met) have taken the time to educate me on many aspects of diving. You can either order online or go into the store, go to their computers and order whatever you want to check out and they are brought out to you from their vast warehouse. After checking out the equipment you can ask as many questions as you have from the instructor and with his guidance you can make your purchase and take your gear with you. My most recent experience was a week and a half before Christmas when I ordered a dive computer for a 12/26 trip to the Carribean. It wasn't in stock and was due to come in on 12/19. I called on 12/19 and was told the manufacturer had extended the delivery date until after Christmas, but to check back the next day. In the meantime, I received an email from Scuba.com advising that the manufacturer had now discontinued this item. Eeee gads! I called the shop and spoke to Bob. He said that the owners of the store were offering a different computer to those of us in my situation. This dive computer turned out to be the one I couldn't afford at $697 and my ordered computer was $299. Well, I told Bob I really couldn't make up the difference and he said that the $697 was being offered to me for $399! He said the owners said Merry Christmas! Did Scuba.com have to do this? Did they have control over the manufacturer? Obviously not. So, when I came to pick up my new computer, Aaron put my whole rig together, explained the computer, and said Merry Xmas. I had two serious problems with my recent order. First, one item was not in stock and after two days I was told it was no longer available. Two days after that I was told my order was delayed because another item in my order was back ordered. About the time it was supposed to ship it was delayed yet again. Second, I inquired about replacement straps for my fins. I asked: "will these (Tusa Fin Spring Straps) fit Deep See Aqua Glide fins?" The response I got: Arthur (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com): "Yes they will." Nope, they don't, not even close. I was hoping to find a reliable west coast supplier. Nice Well informed staff, with good attitudes. Much nicer than most of the other dive shops in the area. There are never rushed or stressed out. Rentals are only four people taking classes, but they have a very knowledgeable technical staff that I feel is probably the best in the area. And of course prices are great too. Kristina is super nice and an enthusiastic diver as well. She used to work at another dive shop where she was easily the nicest employee there. Other places have lost my gear for weeks for no reason and without apology . The same other dive shop double charged my GFs credit card after I had paid cash- they still have my $300. This place gets service done on time and right the first time. That might be the biggest draw into their warehouse - look at something cool while you wait. At great prices . I bought 7mm booties here and love them. Plus they have $9.95 scuba.com micro fleeces! A perfect xmas gift. Just started my certification and needed to buy some new gloves for my open water dives. My hands are really really small and i was not able to find small gloves anywhere. I went to Scuba.com's showroom in Irvine and they pulled out every small gloves they have so i can try them on! I recently purchased a used wetsuit from their online store and made arrangements to come down to their warehouse so I could inspect and try on. When I arrived, they said the suit was defective! I wasn't very pleased with this since I drove from LA to Irvine but in an effort to make things right, Tom arranged to sell me a brand new suit for the same price as the used one! I love the business model at Scuba.com. Since I live near scuba.com in Irvine I can go see, touch and get advice on equipment before buying it. Then, when I've made my choice I can buy with the confidence of an authorized dealer, at prices comparable to some of the gray market online stores. Most of the guys in the shop have been very easy going and have shared tips and technique which I appreciate as a new diver. The only down side for me has been that contrary to some of the previous reviews, they have NOT had the regulator I am interested in in stock any of the three times I've been there. I had to look at some "similar" models and then order the reg just to get it in, and will have to exchange for in store credit if II find it's not what I expected. This is annoying to me-- I suppose they are able to direct ship to their online customers to keep their inventory, and prices, low, but I'd like it if they had more of the bgger tiket items in stock. Anyway, I plan to continue to shop here-- great prices and friendly staff. Hopefully I've just had bad luck with the regs I've been looking for. read more

Decided to get SCUBA certified after putting it off for years. Signed up for scuba classes elsewhere (not scuba.com) and needed "basic" personal gear: gloves, boots, fins, snorkel and mask. A beginner on a budget. Shopped around and pricing varied on retails sports stores vs online stores vs eBay. Decided against the eBay route because 1) wanted to purchase locally just in case something was defective with the gear and 2) wanted to see and try/fit the gear before purchasing. 3) looking for a specialized scuba store. Stumbled across scuba.com and noticed that it was also a local shop. Dropped by on a Saturday and there were 3 customers ahead of me, so it was about a 20min wait time as people were trying on equipment. Did not know what type of equipment to look for, but the employees (forgot their names, apologies) did not pressure me into purchasing the most expensive items nor the most basic. They were very patient and offered tips on the equipment to get through the scuba certification course while not breaking the bank. The employees ensured that the equipment fit and fit snugly too. In addition, came out about $150 less than I had planned to spend which was a definite plus. I did have a defective mask that leaked, and it was replaced it with no hassle at all. Like a character from an Role Playing game, as I progress and advance in scuba skills, I will be looking to purchase "upgrades" on my equipment from scuba.com. read more

If you need any sort of diving/open water equipment this is the place to go. First, do NOT make the original assumption I did, that Scuba.com is only an online website. They in fact have an open facility where if you need your tanks refilled or wish to purchase equipment in person (as long as its available). I bought all the equipment I needed right away and the experience was incredible. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and honest about their personal views on different equipment. Unlike many scuba shops, they did not try to cram every single expensive item down your throat in hopes of a larger commission.
