Came here with my cousin looking to get a new rod and the Shimano Exscence reel since not too many places have it. Cousin also wanted to get a new setup. Walked in wasn't greeted nor acknowledged not too big of a deal, started to look around myself. Then I was looking around for someone to help and I guess the employees like to talk to each other and other customers but me. No worries, still kept patient and looked around. After about 30mins of waiting and trying to ask someone but was ignored we ran out of patience and decided to leave. I will never support this business. This company lacks communication and lack of services. Ordered a Rod/Reel For pick up that cost almost $2,000. they could not ship the 1 piece 9' rod. I drove 7 hours from SF to Anaheim because costumer service said they would wait til I got there even if I was a little late. Got to the store and were completely closed. Saw staff outside and were not able to give me the items that were already purchased.Talk to staff to leave a message for Andrew. He told me that he would relay the message that I was on the way.ahe could not get to the phone because he was getting a haircut.I never Recieved a call back? This store Sucks! And are very unhelpful. Waste a time if my money and time they had no empathy whatsoever ever! I would give them no starts but unfortunately I had to add 1. First off no one acknowledged me when I walked in. Secondly, I told them I went to Meltons in Newport yesterday and Devon said to bring in my reels to get them ready for the season. I live closer to Anaheim location so I went there today. The guy told me they don't work on reels, I tried to explain to him what Devon said and he rudely interrupted me. So I just walked away because I'm not going to argue with the guys. And while I'm walking out he yells I'm the owner so don't go to Newport either. What a joke. Awesome customer service. I was able to get ahold of an American that spoke perfect English to help me out with a shipping question. Getting ocean tackle in Colorado is next to impossible so I worked with Melton Tackle and had a great experience. My reels were sent out ahead of time and everything went very smooth. Not a fan of leaving bad reviews but ran into an issue with my order. Pick up order was not available on the website when I placed my order online on 5-27-24. Called customer service and asked to make the swap on 5-28-24, employee confirmed that when the item pick up would be ready the order would say Completed and "made the swap for me". Received an email saying order was completed on 5-29-24. 5-30-24 drove an hour to pick up my items, waited 15-20 mins to be told there was an "error" with my swap from delivery to pick up and was told my order was shipped out on 5-29-24. Confused on why the employees carried on with shipping it out instead of reaching out through email or phone to confirm if I still wanted to pick up my order. read more

I wish Yelp had more stars, I've read the reviews and honestly was a little hesitant to buy from here. I was in the market for a pro angler 14 and called ahead to see what was in stock. Not only did I talk to the owner but he was MORE than happy to help me, he never made me feel like I was a waste of time and to be honest he went above and beyond in explaining everything there was to know about the kayak I was interested in. And this was BEFORE the sale. It gets better, once I placed the order he called me personally to thank me for the order and requested I see him when I went to pick it up. That's customer service, he also showed me everything I needed to know loaded the kayak for me and really made me feel at home. They have made a customer for life, and I fish a ton. If your reading this because of other reviews on here, I urge you to give this place your business. It has everything and anything you want at a reasonable price. Some of these bad reviews are outright ridiculous. People get busy mistakes are made, we are human. I was treated more than fair, and I'm happy I gave Melton my business. read more

Lots of stuff for sale and browse though. Unfortunately their customer service is what this review is about. Came in to pick up an item I bought online. I stood at the front desk for 7 minutes waiting for the employee and some random guy to finish their chat about sea bass. Not a single acknowledgement that I was waiting or that I even existed while they went on and on about how many sea bass pictures they had on their phone storage. I finally walked away to another part of the store where a different customer was waiting for help. Again no one had any interest in helping a customer standing in their store in line. Wouldn't you know, the original worker finished up his conversation and starts helping a different customer that had just walked in. Legend has it, I am still waiting there to this day... All jokes aside, has I not already gave them my money in the online purchase, I would have left and bought my tackle elsewhere. Avoid this store unless you want to spend time being ignored while the staff hangs out. There are plenty of tackle stores out there that would be glad to have you in their store and will treat you as if they care about what you need. read more

INCREDIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, with a diverse range and selection of tackle. My wife ordered a specialty item for a Christmas gift for me, the Pakula Witch Doctor. Melton Tackle is the only US based store that carries the item, and magically they had it in stock. However, FedEx delivery was problematic with us being out of town. After calling Melton, one of their sales reps worked with FedEx to redirect the shipment for us. The Melton rep called us back three times with updates throughout the process, keeping us informed of exactly what was going on throughout the process. The rep was able to have the package rerouted to a FedEx location for us to pick up the item. Thank you Melton Tackle! read more

Terrible customer service. Slow to respond and will not take responsibility for discrepancies between pictures of product and product descriptions on the website. I ordered treble hooks that did not say "barbless" in the product description. I did not look at the pictures at the time of ordering because treble hooks are meant to increase hook ups and decrease lost fish...why would you look at the barbs in a picture of the detailed product description did not include it? The product title had "BL" which I was expecting to be the black finish. I explained this in person and asked for the barbed version but they were out of stock. I was told to leave the product and within a few days I would see a credit. Nobody said anything about not providing a credit in shipping. I received a credit minus shipping without an expiration. I asked via email and I was told that it was my fault for ordering the wrong product. They ignored the lack of "barbless" in the detailed product description and insisted the pictures were accurate. I asked for a call from the store manager to discuss and they never responded. Had the description included "barbless" in the description I would agree with their assessment. That was not the case. This is an inaccurate representation of product. The website still has not been updated to include "barbless" in the product description. I searched other websites and they state clearly "barbless" in the product description. Also had they had the right hooks in stock, I would have swapped them and been in my way. I don't deal with companies who do not stand behind their products, services, or fixes their mistakes. I will chose to spend my money at Charkbait, Fishwrman's Hardware and Amazon in the future. I ordered a powerpro splicing kit a few months ago. When the kit arrived it was missing the instructional DVD and the zap glue had been opened and was half empty. I attempted to contact melton tackle via email and their website five times with no response. I then placed a complaint with the better business bureau, however melton tackle refused to respond to the BBB or acknowledge the complaint. If you check the BBB website you'll see that melton tackle has a D- rating. Melton Tackle has a history of poor customer support and delivering incomplete or damaged items. I highly recommend you find a different place to purchase your fishing gear. read more

Went to Melton for the first time a few days ago as a novice saltwater fisherman. Such an amazing shop. Huge selection of gear, clothing, accessories. They are also a Hobie dealer. I think the gentleman who helped me was Kevin. He set me up with a left handed reel and strong pole in the price range I wanted. He tried hard to understand how I'd be fishing the combo and even corrected me from going for too big of a set-up. He really took the time to nail down a good fit for me. By far my go to place for my fishing gear, if they don't have what I need in stock they will get it for in a few days. If you need something rigged hands down the most knowledgeable staff to help, I usually don't bring my family to places like a "tackle store" but the nice service and a few free stickers for the kids keep them wanting to go back with me. I am an avid fisherman who used to work at a tackle store so I know what kind of service to expect. I always wanted to see this place but the reputation was that the service was bad. Sure enough, the service was bad, they really have no advice or tried to really help me with my questions. I was the only one in the store and the one gentleman who did speak to me made me feel like I was wasting his time since I was not there to spend a lot of money. In doing a bit more research on the rigging of butterfly jigs, I now know he offered bad advice and the gear he pointed out was not right. I regret going out there. I will not return since the return policy is only good for a short time and only good for store credit. read more

I just got back from a 10-day Melton Tackle fishing charter on the Independence out of San Diego, and the charter master was Danny Mun. From what I understand, he is the manager of Melton Tackle. Danny was the worst charter master I have ever experienced. He was was rude, unhelpful, and had an outright dislike and animosity for at least one of the anglers. At the beginning of the trip, he told me he is not happy at Melton Tackle and is looking for a job within government. Throughout the trip he did not communicate with anyone on the charter except a few people from his last trip, and had a bad attitude against everyone else on the charter. At one point I asked him for help adjusting my drag, and he just looked at the reel without touching it, and said it's fine. This was certainly unlike any charter master I've ever experienced. At one point he slammed the galley door in my face. As the trip went on, I overheard Danny telling other passengers to dislike a particular man and his wife, and was saying some very harsh words about them. Finally he came up to me saying he never wants that man and his wife on the charter again. He said this was his trip, and he wants to reserve it for "elite fisherman". If that is the case, perhaps you should reserve a private charter? I was never so happy for the trip to end. During this charter, the boat had some mechanical issues that made the charter lose 3 days of fishing. Once we got back to the dock, Danny was heard by another angler making private arrangements with the owner of the boat for his own personal refund / credit, and was told not to tell the other passengers. There was no help from the charter master to aid the remaining anglers regarding a refund or credit from the Independence Sportfishing staff for the lost fishing time. The jackpot was another bad experience. The man who won it is as nice as they come, but due to chronic back problems he was in too much pain to fight the fish he hooked. Ultimately, the boat crew fought and landed the largest fish on the boat, and still awarded him the jackpot winner. I would not have a problem with this, but the rules of the jackpot disqualifies the fish if someone other than the angler handles it. If this is the low quality type of person that Melton Tackle has representing their company on a charter, I will never be a customer again, and would advise others to stay clear of this place. He is a very bad refection of Melton Tackle. I will never spend a dime at Melton Tackle, nor will I ever sign up for another one of their charters. Dep.
