They explained to me everything and didn't try and sell me on anything, but rather let me come to my own decision on what I wanted. After living with the results of this surgery for the past year and a half, I feel it is important to share my experience so that others can make an informed decision. I underwent breast implant removal along with a small tummy tuck and limited liposuction with Jon Bradley Strawn, MD, MBA at Scultra Plastic Surgery. What followed was a long and difficult recovery that ultimately resulted in hospitalization, extensive wound care, permanent scarring, and a cosmetic outcome that has been emotionally devastating. Following surgery, I developed a significant wound across my chest. Over the next several weeks, I continued to receive treatment and follow-up care. On multiple occasions, Dr. Strawn came to my home to drain fluid when the office was closed. Despite ongoing problems with the wound, I was not referred to a wound specialist for approximately two months. When I was finally evaluated by the wound specialist, I was immediately directed to go to the emergency room. I was hospitalized for four days and then spent approximately two months with a wound VAC before the wound eventually healed. Today, I am left with extensive scarring across my chest. In addition, the cosmetic result was not what I expected. After implant removal, I was left completely flat-chested, which has significantly affected my confidence and self-image. I saw Dr. Strawn for a consultation for explant and left with more questions than answers. I wasn't going to write a review since I decided not to have surgery by him but since he charged me $100 for a consult, I felt compelled to do so and here's why my experience was negative: When I inquired about drains placed during surgery, he said he would leave it up to me to decide whether he would place them or not. After doing a bit of research, drains are always placed after explant surgery so the fact that he left it up to me was strange and did not sit well with me at all. He tried to talk me into getting fat transfer, I was adamant that I did not want it, however, he insisted that my breast would look "aesthetically unpleasing". I thought it was unethical to upsell me on more procedures. The only reason he was my top choice was because he did his surgeries at Hoag Hospital but that is no longer the case. He does them at a surgery center that looks like a medical spa. His office staff was trying to convince me that it is better than the hospital. I didn't agree. Finding Dr. Strawn was such a blessing! I met a girl named Ashlee through one of the Breast Implant Illness communities who had explanted with Dr. Strawn. I shared with her the horror story of my explant experience. The doctor I had explanted with was a great doctor for reconstructive work but I soon learned that he had little experience explanting. He left me with an open wound that leaked fluid for months and would not heal while he was off doing surgeries in another country. I thought I was going to be permanently disfigured and didn't even know if it was possible to find someone to fix the mess I was left with, let alone trust someone again to fix it. I had no idea what to do. Thank God for Ashlee & Dr. Strawn... I always tell people to be careful who you explant with. Not all explanters are created equal! It is a specialized skill. I had gone to some hot shot reconstructive surgeon with a fancy Beverly Hills 90210 office, paid lots of money, and I still got wrecked. Dr. Strawn saved me! Had I gone to Dr. Strawn in the first place, he could have prevented me from having to go through an extra surgery along with all the extra time, wasted money, and aggravation. Ashlee showed me photos and videos of her amazing results and I was floored. She looked so perfect. It was as if she had implants but she was all natural. I am now 7 months post explant and can tell you that 100% of my BII symptoms are gone! I feel like I have my life back and am pain free everyday. Life is good! My scarring is still very visible, reddish pink and does bother me. I hope it heals and fades more but I'm not too sure. I am having a hard time finding a bathing suit because the right scar seems a bit low and shows in some bathing suit tops. I had a capsulectomy, lipo and fat transfer august 2021. Honestly, I wish I wrote this after my surgery so other women wouldn't have to go through what I did. But I was truly in shock and I have PTSD from this experience. My whole entire experience with this office and doctor was an complete and total nightmare. I was told I would be a B cup after the transfer. I was left with no boobs and the most horrendous scars I have ever seen. Also, I don't believe he had the best lipo technique as I was bruised more than anyone else I've seen. Furthermore, he didn't even call to check up on me after the surgery. Surgery day- I was not marked up or told where my scars would be. I never spoke with the anesthesiologist the night before either like I had done with previous surgeries. I arrived at the center around 6:30-7:00 am and was discharged around 3:30-4:00 pm. I'm pretty sure I was in surgery for 6 hours. Are you kidding me? I came out of surgery in shock, bruised beyond measures like I got ran over by a bus, confused etc. they did not have me use the restroom and I was pretty much rushed out of there. I assure you I was not even ready to go home. I should have had overnight care. I had over an hour drive home. I get home and I've never been so thirst in my life. However, I couldn't eat, swallow or talk probably because I was intubated for so many hours. (Furthermore, I couldn't talk for weeks after) I also couldn't urinate or sleep. I couldn't relax and was delirious. I truly believe my body was keeping me awake for a reason. I was in shock. Come 1:00 am and I start hallucinating, I can't breath and my heart is racing. My husband rushes me to the emergency room. The staff there looked at me like what is gods name just happened to you. It was the worst experience of my life. They immediately hooked me up to an iv, started blood work, mri's. Then I start urinating for 3 hours straight. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me so i was rushed over by ambulance to Kaiser. Kaiser kept me over night and I required a blood transfusion. The anesthesiologist was negligent and well as dr strawn. I'm sure my blood pressure dropped in surgery and they falsely stabilized it. I know I had red flags and they discharged me anyways. I chose Dr. Strawn to do my explant and total capsulectomy. I had submuscular saline implants for 13 years, 2 months and 2 days. January 8, 2019 will forever be my 2nd birthday. I never heard about Breast Implant Illness until September 2018, but once I researched it, I KNEW I had to get mine removed as soon as possible. I set up consultations with 4 different surgeons. One was a referral in San Diego/Oceanside, one was the surgeon who I got my implants from, and another surgeon in Newport Beach and Dr. Strawn. The other surgeon in Newport Beach was booking surgeries over 8 months out...that's nowhere near "as soon as possible"! My consult with Dr. Strawn was December 10th and my surgery was January 8th. I just *knew* Dr. Strawn was the surgeon for my explant so I scheduled my surgery before I even met Dr. Strawn for my consultation. I have absolutely no regrets doing so. I wanted more control over my health and I knew my work schedule. I couldn't wait until July for my surgery. Dr. Strawn and Sheena, his admin, are amazing, kind and caring. Sheena takes time to answer whatever questions you may have, even if you're on the phone with her for an extended period of time. She gives you her complete attention. You are not just another patient or number to this office. Dr. Strawn is very caring and calming. The consult was done in a room with 4 comfortable arm chairs. He doesn't sit behind a desk exuding his ego over you. He knows that this is serious but also wants you to not be afraid. Every time I've had an appointment with him, he's always smiling and happy. His confidence is not arrogance. Dr. Strawn operates at Hoag Hospital, which is across the street from his office. The staff and nurses at Hoag were amazing!! Dr. Strawn is an amazing & exceptionally skilled surgeon. He does do *en bloc explants*. Of course he presents every available option to you, as any doctor should. (Don't let any group tell you that because he presents all the options available, it makes him unskilled or unqualified to do your surgery; because what qualifies those groups/people to do so?) I had an explant-only and total capsulectomy, and that's all I wanted. Dr. Strawn didn't try to push a lift or fat transfer procedure by using words like saggy or droopy. The other surgeons I consulted with used these words thinking that my vanity would get the best of me since it did before. I don't regret not getting a lift or fat transfer. I have amazing results. I had an explant and fat transfer with Dr. Strawn in 2021 and a trauma that ensued. In an effort to heal I wanted to keep it positive, hence why I'm not posting until now but I can't shake that it's my responsibility to disclose how negligent this surgeon is. Additionally, I've heard from others that they too have experienced negligence from this doctor and traumas that have ensued following their procedures. 24 hours after my surgery I could barely stand or form a sentence (I'd followed all post op instructions), was losing consciousness and was rushed to the ER where they performed a number of tests. They found that my sodium levels were critically low "hyponatremia" which can lead to permanent brain damage and death (I'd done pre-op labs a few days prior and all levels were in range). In fact many of my blood markers and levels were way off. Ultimately the doctors at Hoag concluded that I had lost a significant amount of blood too quickly and instead of being admitted after surgery I was sent home. During my 3 day hospital stay in a step down ICU unit Dr. Strawn didn't visit until the last day when I was discharged. My husband called him from the ER and he said he was out roller blading and that I must've drank too much water and flushed all of my electrolytes. I was drinking bone broth and liquid IV so this wasn't the case. Regardless, you clinically cannot drink yourself into this level of hyponatremia; I've confirmed that with clinicians. In my post-op appointments he stuck with his story of how I'd done this to myself. Dr. Strawn is very charming and aesthetically I love the results however this kind of near death trauma WILL happen over and over again if people don't start speaking up. I don't even know where to begin considering how off the charts AMAZING my experience has, and still is with the office of Dr. Jon B. Strawn. I fell extremely ill in September 2018. There were very few doctors available for the procedure I needed ( enbloc/capsulectomy ) and the doctors that were available had a very long waiting list including Dr. Strawn. What initially stood out to me about this particular doctors office was the receptionist Sheena. Immediately when you call his office you are welcomed by the most warm, empathetic, sincere person. Sheena isn't just a receptionist, she's literally superwoman! I called that office literally every week crying hysterically because I was so afraid that I was going to die. It didn't matter how crazy I sounded, how distraught, how slow, how off, Sheena ALWAYS took my calls, or immediately called me back, and always hung up the phone with me feeling somehow so much better and safe. Sheena is a god send, and patient beyond the ability of any human being I have ever met. I met with Dr. Strawn in December, but already had my surgery scheduled for January 23rd considering I was really sick. I had already met with two doctors prior to Dr. Strawn, and meeting Dr. Strawn was night and day between the other two. He made me smile, and as sick as I was smiling wasn't a part of my day sadly, but his bedside manner was just so comforting. It was like I was talking to a family member and not a doctor. I felt safe, comfortable, and I was open and honest, and I didn't feel like I was talking to a stranger. Sometimes doctors can give you a creepy feeling, or can make you feel like you're crazy, but this doctor believed in my illness, and he believed that I would feel so much better after the surgery. He was extremely familiar in my illness ( HE BELIEVES IN BII ) which is rare, and he was very familiar with what he needed to run for the pathology tests, which some doctors just don't have the experience in. I can't put into words how much better I feel, and I almost don't believe it. At the hands of this amazing angel of God, I am seven weeks post op, and I am thriving. All of my laboratory tests that were off-the-wall crazy have normalized, and only after 33 days. This doctor knows what he's doing, and he is extremely thorough, patient, educated, experienced, kind, empathetic, understanding, and willing to learn any and every idea that you may pass across his way. My scars are nearly invisible, and did I mention again that I am only seven weeks post op. The doctor saw me every week for the first month, and made it very clear that if I ever needed to reach him they were available 24 hours a day. I have a second procedure May 15th, and I am so happy to say that it is of course with Dr. Strawn. I can honestly say that I'm not sure I could, nor would I ever be able to trust a surgeon at this level now that I've had a surgical experience with Dr. Strawn. I went to Dr. Strawn to explant my breast implants. He is one of the few Dr.'s in OC that will remove them enbloc (implant inside the scar capsule). He spent a really long time going over everything with me and I never felt rushed. I can say his bedside manner is better than anyone else that I consulted with. He's a friendly, happy, and caring person. You will love him. He's responsive if you call in with questions, and he does believe that implants could potentially effect your health so he won't lecture you about your feelings on that topic. His technique for breast lifts is cutting edge and I ended up with very youthful looking round breasts that I am completely happy with. I was very afraid of having boxy looking boobs after the lift. I opted for fat grafting because I was also getting two lumps removed at the same time by another surgeon and was afraid of dents. The other doctor had to remove the blood supply from one nipple when removing the lump. Dr. Strawn rerouted the blood supply and now it is more functional than prior to explant. I have no dents or lumps or bumps from the lipo. I look like I lost 20 pounds but I only lost a few. Lipo was a surprising benefit. Tummy is much smaller! I was very sick and had gone to multiple consults and didn't feel comfortable until I met this man. I just went back 2 weeks ago and had fat grafting done. I'm almost finished with the reconstruction process and he has been caring, professional and available every step of the way. I feel as if they are friends, and that is how I felt , and feel every time I deal with either of them. This was my 7th breast revision, and I was scared to say the least. Dr. Strawn is a talented surgeon, and did an amazing job, and I would send anyone to him. He is not on an ego trip, and you can communicate with him, and he listens. I am writing this review BEFORE I even have my surgery with Dr Strawn because I believe it's important to let people know how strongly those of us women who are explanting feel about him. I was introduced to the idea that some symptoms I have been having over the course of a decade were possibly linked to my breast implants last summer by a friend of mine. Needless to say, I quickly looked into surgeons who could explant as soon as I delivered my second child (I was pregnant at the time of consulting). I had my consult with Dr Strawn while pregnant and knew I wanted to use him. I had planned on consulting with one other doctor but because I had such a good feeling about Dr Strawn and loved his bedside manner, I decided not to even look into other surgeons. I saw Dr. Strawn for unilateral breast reconstruction after having had cancer for a second time, with radiation treatment. Radiated-treated breasts make it much trickier to get a good result as they don't accommodate implants well and don't heal as well. However, that was not the case with Dr. Strawn. He successfully did implants larger than my original breast (the other surgeon said he couldn't do it), and made them quite symmetrical. They are beautiful. I cannot say enough good things about him, both as a skilled surgeon and a kind human being. He sent me a letter of support after my first visit. He spoke with Hoag on my behalf regarding specialized care (I have many allergies). And his surgical skill is superb: If you want a breast made totally out of your own tissue (fat), he can do that. Or if you want to go larger with implants AND look natural, he can do that too. (He gave me a new breast via an implant with some cosmetic fat grafting so there are no telltale implant lines. Turned out gorgeous and matches the other side. Both my general surgeon and my oncologist commented how natural it looks.) Sheena the office manager answers all my questions, and "held my hand" through the process. Cancer stinks, but Dr. Strawn and Sheena are always caring and never rush you. I recently had a surgery performed by Dr. Strawn and I feel compelled to share my story just as all these other ladies have. He's a one-of-a-kind surgeon who cares beyond measure. He's talented, compassionate, focused, extremely down to earth and approachable. He runs a "tight ship" so to speak, and the office is pristine and beautiful. His office manager Sheena made me feel extremely comfortable instantly. I really felt like family through my whole surgical process. I had a breast augmentation when I was very young, and over the years I began to dislike the way my breasts looked. I spent two years researching plastic surgeons, made many appointments, went to many consultations, but never felt comfortable with their skill level... until I found Dr. Strawn. Dr. Strawn spent well over an hour and a half with me at my initial consultation. He answered all of my questions thoroughly and with patience. He took the time to show me dozens of post op photos of other women who had similar breasts and bodies. I also love how honest Dr. Strawn is! He went over all of the pros and cons of having breast revision surgeries. He explained the possible complications that could arise during surgery and during recovery. There has never been a doctor that has taken so much time to educate me. After my consultation, I called the office a handful of times with various questions, and Sheena answered each and every question with ease and honesty. Dr. Strawn's office is not pushy, nor do they use sales techniques. I never felt like I was being upsold or talked into more procedures that were unnecessary as other surgeons have tried to do. I ended up have an allergic reaction to one of my medications, and when I called the office in the middle of the night Sheena answered! I was referred to Dr. Strawn after being seen by HOAG ER for a broken hand. Dr. Strawn has a great office going! Him and his staff take great care of their patients! He's not a stuffy "I speak, you listen" type of Doc, you can have a dialogue with him about your care. Visits to his office are like going to visit a good friend. His office waiting room has a great view of the ocean, but you don't really get to spend too much time enjoying it, because you don't wait around all day. He actually sees you on your appointment time! He repaired my fractured hand/thumb bone with pins, and also removed them. He's very professional, and his staff go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of. It was as enjoyable as something like that can go, for sure! I hope I never have to have him put me together again, but if I did I know he's the best guy in town for it. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing reconstructive surgery. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I love this team so much. I needed to have breast implants removed and I wanted it done properly with the entire capsule removed enbloc, along with reconstructive surgery (mastopexy/breast lift). I had spoken with two other Surgeons before calling Dr. Strawn's office, and I had done some research online. I found that Dr. Strawn uses a different yet effective strategy in his Mastopexy and I liked the fact that he has specialized in breast surgery throughout his career and has helped many breast cancer patients as well as women needing to have implants removed. I called and spoke to Sheena (Office Mgr. +++++) and after a very long conversation, and with every single one of my questions answered, I knew without a doubt that this was who I wanted to go with. I still had an in-person consultation to meet Dr. Strawn and Sheena, but my intuition was correct and I scheduled my surgery. My surgery was done at Hoag Hospital and went wonderfully. The staff at the hospital was amazing, and Dr. Strawn was great in preparing me and making me feel as comfortable as possible going in. He is truly an amazing soul and is so much more than a surgeon. He treats his patients more like friends than anything else, and Sheena is the same way. Their office is not like any other. It is not super busy and crowded, it is very clean and comfortable, you don't wait forever to be seen, they answer the phone when you call, and they are just so much more personable than any other Dr's office I have ever been to. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since my surgery date, so I have yet to see the final results as it will take time, but I am so happy with the way everything has gone up to now. The BEST choice for reconstructive breast surgery! Being diagnosed with breast cancer is devastating. Dr. Strawn was highly recommended by two excellent oncology surgeons. I was a bit reluctant to schedule an appointment because I thought it might be uncomfortable since he was a man. When I called his office, Sheena his assistant, was very compassionate and respectful. I needed a specific surgery date and their office was extremely flexible and accomodating. But, the best part was his surgical skills. I had gotten several opinions and Dr. Strawn was able to turn a very negative situation into a positive one. Had I gone to a different doctor, I would have ended up with permanent, unsightly scars. I had to get a great deal of tissue removed which would have been disfiguring but due to his skills and extensive knowledge, he was able to get a great outcome. In addition, Dr. Strawn provides outstanding followup. I had some problems related to my condition and he went out of his way to address them and have his office follow up to make sure I was doing ok.
