Cons: Initial contact (It took a week to get a my first call back when I first contacted the company). Overview: This company does top quality work, I am extremely impressed and very happy about my new backyard. I purchased a new construction home with a dirt back yard, I needed to get a slope pushed back, they added a retention wall, added electrical sleeving for electrical wires to be installed, added drip irrigation to my current drip irrigation setup, upgraded my water irrigation and drain system to handle the rain fall, and they added two paver patios and artificial grass to my back yard. In regards to their cons, they are a smaller time landscaping company, and as many of you know there are tons of new homes being built, so I am sure their owners are flooded with phone calls, so it is tough reach them initially, but trust me, keep calling because you wont regret it. Once you get in contact with them, they set you up on a chat program for cell phones (Basecamp) where you have direct contact with the owners, builders, project managers, where you can keep up to date and immediate feedback if you have any questions. Price: I had 7 companies give me quotes for my backyard, SCV Landscaping gave me the 3rd best quote, but I believed in their owner's Rob great first impression and their before and after photos to make me feel confident in their work quality, so happy I did. In regards to their artificial grass they charged me $2 less then Home Depot would for the same 80 ounce turf, great price and top quality turf I received. Work Quality: Let me start off with this, their big competitor for our community was "Green Pride Landscaping." I have seen two of their yards (one is posted on Yelp), and I am not impressed at all. Their yards were not flattened and raised to give an even flat yard, and it looks cheaply done. On the contrary, SCV Landscaping added a lot of base gravel to raise my yard to ensure the backyard was flat, so I had no uneven surfaces to walk on. In my opinion its night and day how much better quality SCV Landscaping was towards their competitor. Despite a blemish here and there, my yard look outstanding. Conclusion: I could not be happier for the great job SCV Landscaping did on my back yard, thanks again and I highly recommend their service over their competitors. My husband and I worked with SCV Landscaping to re-landscape our back yard into something more drought friendly and useful. We then had the typical large grass lawn with some plants along the borders; but due to the clay soil, in reality, we had dead grass with patches of swampy grass. We first met with Rob on August 26th, and he set us up to meet with their designer Kim. We then met with her a few times to talk about what we wanted. Brian, the project manager, also came and measured. Kim listened to our needs, took our ideas, and presented a design that exceeded my expectations. Her design incorporated our ideas but made them better--she applied her design expertise and landscape knowledge and gave us something that we wanted but unable to express. October 8th, we signed our contract. Rob was very professional and great to work with. He told us the expected time for the work we wanted done would be about four weeks. With the holidays coming up, and possible weather delays, he let us know that it would take longer than the four weeks. He also made sure that we didn't have an event coming up such as hosting the family holiday in the new back yard. It then took weeks to obtain the HOA approval, but finally things got moving. And we set a start date. November 8th, the work crew started the demolition. Brian even stopped by the day before, to mark the demo areas for his crew. The work crew came consistently and the work progressed. Eric seemed to be the direct supervisor for the crew and he was also easy to work with. The worksmanship and the high quality materials they use were impressive. The kids got to put their handprints in the concrete as well. We gave our final payment to SCV Landscaping on January 14th. Overall, we were highly satisfied with the work. All projects have bumps along the way and ours were minor. When a wall was taken down leaving the yard open, we asked when we would choose the gate and were referred to a great guy, Cesar, who came to measure and let us choose. The gate was custom made and installed on January 26th. The concrete has several marks--looks like leaves had fallen on the surface while drying--and Brian offered to patch them, but the patches would wear off over time so we decided against it. The whole project took longer than the initial estimate, but with the two holidays and a few days of rain, I felt it was reasonable. And at the end of it all, the backyard is so much more accessible and useful. The kids have planted bulbs, herbs and a couple blueberry bushes in the beautiful planters and enjoy watering and watching their plants. In hiring outside contractors one can often say his or her expectations were met... but in this case our expectations were exceeded. My wife & I are very pleased with the result and are now "fans" of SCV. Here are some the reasons for our high praise: * Initial meeting with Nick and Greg Us demonstrated a desire to work with us both from a financial perspective to meeting our taste in both hard scape and landscape selection and decisions. This never varied as we made adjustments during the project. * Initial design... Project began with Greg Us creating a rough design around our requests then working with us to dial it in. I did not expect and was impressed when Greg brought us computer generated design plans. The plans were in color with realistic views (2D) of how the property would look with both hardscape and landscape. This really helped us visualize where we were going and enhanced making better decisions regarding the final plan. Once the final plan was secured... everyone was singing off the same page. * Excellent communication during construction. SCV used a program called "Base Camp" which communicated via email all progress on the job. This venue informed me of who was going to what... and when. I also allowed me to make comments, suggestions, and ask questions. One advantage of the Base Camp app was that all communication and promises are in print. * Quality. No shortcuts in the quality of materials (pavers, plants) or processes (concrete foundation on paver edges, electrical changes, ground prep, soil amendments, etc.) * Great work crews... hard working, attention to detail. Pedro as the leader of the crew was outstanding... tremendous experience with a desire for excellence. Greg Morris was the overall foreman for our project and was frequently checking in and very supportive. We appreciated Greg's patience with us as we occasionally requested changes or tweaks to the plans. * Clean up the worksite every night. * Great attitudes all around. * Price. In taking in all the aspects mentioned above. I thought the cost was fair and reasonable. Nick and Greg came out and were awesome! They were friendly, proffesional and had great ideas. I had some unique ideas I wanted in the design and they figured out how to make it happen. For the rest of the design, I left in Greg's hands. When he sent me the 3d drawings, it was more than I hoped for. Before the project started , Brian, the project manager, came out and told me he was running the job. I liked how these guys communicate, that's very important for me. Brian knew his job well! SCV helped us completely transform our home with a front and back yard reno. Early 2017, SoCal got hit hard by rain and our entire back yard flooded. It was a mess. When we finally decided to re-model our backyard after 10 years of hating the space, we looked for a company that was willing to work with us on a creative, custom design and understood the nuances of working with a small space. Decided to have them do our maintenance after they did our landscaping. First of all, about half the plants they planted died within a couple months of being planted. (And yes, we did leave the sprinkler settings as they set them). I contacted them in early November about an issue that I had brought up weeks before but that hadn't been fixed yet. Nothing. I have yet to hear back from them. Besides monthly bills I have not received any response. Finally cancelled maintenance service in january. Guess what - they didn't even acknowledge. This update is in response to the reply from the business to our initial review (since it won't let us respond directly to your response). Our first review was several years after the project was done because we hesitated on leaving a negative review. We only decided to do a review years later when we asked for something that was never right from the start to be fixed and had another rough experience. We have only just now seen SCV's response, years later, since we do not get on Yelp much but feel it's necessary to respond. Yes, we were cost-conscious, and from day one, we expressed very clearly that we'd tell you all that was on our wish list, and then depending on your quote, we'd have to remove what we couldn't afford. We removed having you do the artificial turf, and the plants/planting. The fight later had to do with what was agreed upon with the number of electrical outlets in the retaining wall. We never asked you to remove any of the electrical outlets that were going to be built into our retaining wall, yet you fought us on it saying the one on the back wall was never part of the original agreement. We were very specific about the 3 places we wanted them during our walkthrough. It was so disorganized that things would be forgotten and then blamed on us that we were adding things. We'd have meetings with different people and some would agree on things and never inform others, thus it never got written down. Like we mentioned in the first review, once we said we were having a different company do the grass, we were treated very different, and that was pretty upsetting. Hopefully, as you said in your response, workflows were changed for the better as we hope others will have a better experience. read more

SCV Landscaping does a great job. Professional from design, where they give you computer visuals of your project and different looks you might want, through all construction. They add extras that you might not have thought of, like wiring for fans & electrical outlets on patio go inside the wood, completely hidden. Best part in our opinion was ABSOLUTELY NO WASTED DAYS - when they came to start, they had 8 or more guys working back there, and kept it up throughout. When the demolition was done, the pavers were delivered the day before and ready to go. While they're being put in, the landscaping, digging for gas and electric lines, etc. is going on. Day before that's done, the concrete tiles for patio roof are there. Day before that's done, the veneer for the bar/grill and fire pit is there. Everything coordinated, not one wasted day, several guys there every day. All inspected by the city & signed off. If you've ever had a home construction project, you know the biggest nightmare is they start, work on yours a day or two, go to somebody else's, show up next week for a day or two, etc., trying to keep several customers happy at once. I read all the reviews (both good and bad) about this company before I contacted them but decided to give them a try. First of all, it took me several attempts (of leaving messages) just to get someone to come and give me an estimate. Finally Nick came and we discussed ideas of both landscape and hardscape. It has been 5 weeks and I still have not received an estimate. I have contacted Nick several times and he continually stated that I will receive the estimate by the end of the week. I am shocked at the unprofessionalism of this company. When I talk to others about this company and my experience, they say this should be your first clue about this company. SCV Landscaping recently completed our front yard and backyard landscaping and hardscaping and we were beyond impressed. First, our backyard is literally a sanctuary. The design work makes a yard not only beautiful, but also extremely useful. The actual plants are beautiful and actually accent our house and make sense. We have a large oval trampoline that the guys had to accommodate whilst still giving us tons of useable space. BEWARE!! As difficult as this is for me to write, I believe people deserve to know up front that this company has taken on more than they can handle and/or are qualified to do. It's a long story to share but we put a lot of work in to our home and if I'm going to give a bad review, which I consider very carefully as these are people's lives, I want to share as thoroughly and accurately as possible! At first I thought, "they just aren't getting my calls or are super busy, be patient these are nice guys" but NOOOOOO...... I've heard nothing. I've made 3 phone calls to Nick without any response! I'm so disappointed in SCV Landscaping !!!! No return phone calls??? (after a year strong relationship?) Wow, unacceptable business practices, I can only thank God for the weather this last year as we would have lost everything, not just the plants we did!! First, after the project ended we employed them to maintain their handiwork. Subsequently we have had to replace their maintenance lawn service as all of our plants were failing (many died and were never replaced just thrown away, in our trash cans not even hidden, so much for their guarantee) and their maintenance guy we hired Juan, NEVER once mentioned that the system was broken (because he probably had no idea, he really didn't seem to care one bit about our yard) and was charging over $350 a month and showing up at dusk and working til after dark (seriously) on Friday or Saturday nights completely disregarding our days/time agreements and no phone calls to let us know the change, Juan would just pop in to mow when it was convenient for him to fit in his schedule because frankly he did NOTHING else for our yard but mow!! We had several conversations about our expectations and disappointments and to no avail the behavior continued and we had no choice but to let him go. We found a new company for a fraction of what Juan was charging and we are getting true lawn care now from these 3 great gentlemen!! Second, We called in 3 experts who are highly respected and recommended in this area. 1 of which we eventually hired to maintain our yard, the other is our organic plant, tree, soft-scaping source and the other was chosen at random. ALL 3 said the SAME THING.....our yard was improperly planted! They all 3 said our trees, plants & shrubs were planted waaaay to deep and suffocating ....... and the irrigation system was faulty and never hooked up on east side of yard.... the wires are there but that's where it stops!!! I just didn't want to believe how badly we have been ripped off by these people I thought were "friends" at best and nice guys at the least! Simply put, they do not employ proper landscaping techniques nor do they truly guarantee their work! Third, a slightly more positive note, Brian's workmanship on our pavilion and outdoor kitchen is beautiful ( although we had to call SCV to come repair the structure as all of the bolts were becoming dislodged and Brian no longer works for SCV (Greg handled this ALL and very professionally too) and the stamped cement that looks like wood is cracking more and more every day! ). I think Greg is probably the only one I trust who is still there ( he may have left too) I would call him directly but he's not an owner and it's not his issue). Allow me to add, I was even willing to pay for any repairs and their time, I understand systems fail and stuff happens as we are all human and since the year was almost up I just wanted to maintain consistency with the company who originally did the work......I said this in my voicemail, so it's not like we were looking for FREE work, we simply want the yard we put a great deal of time and money in "fixed" and WORKING FOR US! In conclusion, I had to pay to have my irrigation system that was never WIRED IN OR WORKING, repaired ....... I do not make this claim lightly, this is true, as 3 experts gave the same diagnoses and so I had to have it repaired and then on top of that, redesigned for the type of varied vegetation we have as well. The system SCV put in was not adequate or properly installed for our various plant choices! I guess it's to our advantage they "blew us off" as we also had to have all plants and trees "raised" or dug out so they are now buried at the appropriate levels as they were truly suffocating. A final note of interest, We spent over 170k on our yard renovations with SCV alone, so we are very serious about our properties!!! We do not do things cheaply and never haggled over THEIR pricing and trusted these people completely with our outdoor vision!! We received three bids in Feb 2016 and went with SCV who happened to be the highest but we truly liked them and so work began in March of 2016 and concluded June/July2016 Ignore my previous accolades as time and attention have proven me wrong!!!! read more

SCV Landscaping was a pleasure to deal with. I needed a complete redo of my front and back yards, which were in pretty bad shape. And I'm one of those people that know what I like but am not design minded to come up with the ideas. I had a few photos and some scrambled ideas about what I wanted. At the first meeting, Rob and Nick took my project as a challenge and I could see their enthusiasm for what they do. Nick hit it on the head when he said they wanted to create an "oasis" for me. The same night they responded with a detailed estimate. The work was started quickly and was completed in a very timely manner. I now have beautifully landscaped yards, which are pretty now, but I believe will be even more beautiful in the spring when everything is in bloom. They also installed a gas firepit, a fountain, completely re-did the sprinklers and lighting, and reconfigured the grass and planters. There was great attention to detail, and they put thought into the placement of every plant and tree. When small issues arose, as they do with any big project, Rob and Nick, were quick to respond, and issues were resolved quickly. They were very open to working within my budget, and some creative design ideas helped me to stay within budget without sacrificing the overall effect I was looking for. Rob and Nick always made themselves available, and one or both were at my house on most every morning and evening, to work with the crew, and check on progress and work with me on making decisions. Very happy with our results. We've received a LOT of offers to landscape our yard and we are happy we went with SCV Landscaping mainly due to their professionalism, knowledge, and customer service. They were very detailed about the process and I never felt rushed or as if any questions I had along the way were too dumb. I had a phone call with Nick from the beginning when inquiring about the company and he was very thorough in explaining everything to me. Then I met with Kim who is a wonderful landscape designer to discuss my vision for the project. As things got rolling Rob called to introduce himself and answer any questions I had and address any concerns that had arised. No detail felt too small. I also really appreciated their response to feedback - I let Kim know at one point that I felt I wasn't getting the communication I needed in order to know what was going on behind the scenes before the project started and from that point forward. communication was on point. My parents live with us and my mother even called Rob once about the guys leaving trash on the work site. He called her right back and spoke at length with her about her issue and made her feel at ease. We didn't have any more problems with trash after that. I value a company that is not afraid of feedback because that shows they really care about their customer service and they truly want to do a great job and improve their services whenever possible. Issues, concerns, or problems are going to come up. How a company handles those issues is what matters. The guys who worked were very hard working and professional, always dressed in the company logo; and Kim, Nick, and Rob were often on site overseeing things and very accessible. The overall process did not take long and we even had several rain days and holidays in the mix. They handled all the paperwork for the home owner's association as well making things a bit easier for us. When the project was completed, Rob did a final walk through with us to review everything which gave a good feeling of closure. No matter what amount of money you are spending on your project - it is a lot of money to the homeowner. Ours was a smaller project but a huge deal for our family and a long term investment in our home. It was nice to work with a company that seemed to value our job as much as the bigger more expensive jobs. This is why I like supporting locally owned family businesses - there is a warmth and sense of community that larger corporations can tend to lose at times. read more

Had a rather large project done. Patio, patio roof, BBQ island, fire pit with built in seating, lawn, dog run, trees, hedges, planter, etc. They were timely with the bid and took time to review and explain each part of the bid. When the project started, their workers showed up daily, 5 and sometimes 6 days a week. They did not vanish for days at a time like most contractors do. Due to the size of the project, I was stressed out daily and met with their workers every morning. I was always treated respectfully and any questions I had were answered. The project was completed quickly and the quality of the work was top notch. I plan on using them again for future projects and highly recommend them to friends and family. read more

SCV landscaping just finished our backyard. We have an older home and the backyard was mostly grass with a lattice shade bar. It was hard to imagine how it would turn out, we decided to redo everything and are extremely happy we did it all at once and with SCV. We did pavers, fire pit, built in BBQ, an A-frame gable patio cover with a shade bar coming off one side, grass, plants and trees. It is beautiful! Brian, the project manager, was here almost everyday and made himself available throughout the process. He was here so much we actually miss the guy! I knew when we walked through some of the projects they were working on, and some that were finished, that they did great work, (yes they actually took the time to show us there work) but I never imagined it coming out this good!! The whole team made themselves available from the beginning, and we're approachable starting with Nick and Rob, the owners, Kim the designer, to Brian. If I had to go through a large project like this I would use them every time. Also the quote they gave me was what I paid. My wife and I bought a new home in West Hills. Saw their signs in a number of locations. This was the first new house I bought so I didn't know my way around the landscaping process. SCV gave me a professional designer to work with who came up with ideas and layouts I couldn't have imagined. The project was over our budget so Rob and Nick agreed to finance part of the project. Their creativity and business approach gave my family more than we expected. Prices were fair and the financing was key to avoid having to cut things out. It was a very pleasant process to work with Rob, Nick, and especially our project manager Brain for our backyard landscaping project. Rob and Nick gave us a very reasonable quote, actually, I should say an underestimated quote- we only budgeted for a 2'X6' pond but when Brain examined the layout (we have designed a bridge over the pond leading to our deck area), he decided to build a much more generous pond, more like 4'X10' to make it look better and be able to accommodate my Koi fish, and the guys stick to their original quote. I think this reflects how SCV treats their customer and put quality of their product over profit margin. This is only one example, Brain actually spent a huge amount of time himself playing with rocks, the pump, and the access gates around my pond to make it better looking and more functional. The whole project turns out to be great and we really enjoyed sitting in our backyard listening to the waterfall sound and watch our koi fish swimming just besides our deck. I would highly recommend SCV landscaping to anyone who wants a quality job done together with a pleasant experience. read more
