This review is a long time coming! I first found SJR landscaping on yelp to design and landscape our entire yard in North Hollywood. Since then, I have worked with Hector and his team for years across multiple properties for many things. I have used them for: -tree trimming, tree cutting (large trees!), & stump removal -brush clearance -complete landscaping design (full grading, turf, watering systems, plants, planters, DE, etc) -hardscaping and concrete These guys really know what they are doing. They will really work with you to figure out exactly what you need. They are always thinking about how to deal with the details (drainage, plant locations, watering locations/logistics) And their quotes always come in lower than other places... Stay in touch with Hector during the process and you will be sure to get everything you need. Like I say, I've been working with them so long, they feel like family at this point! They really are a one-stop shop for everyting. That is another thing I love about them - they arent pushy. They will come out and discuss the project, give you an estimate, and won't try to strongarm you into hiring them. Its hard to find someone you can communicate with, work with, and not feel pressured. I remember the first time we hired them - all other places felt like they were pushing their ideas on us, but Hector always listened and strategized WITH us. 10/10 all around. We were required to landscape our side yard by our HOA. I researched many companies over many months, and this was the most affordable. I would highly recommend this company and especially Hector. They were very good with communication, quick, and the least expensive of what I found in the area for pavers. The work took about a week to do (be prepared for some very loud music and singing that week). Hector and his team did an excellent job creating our side yard. It's a small space, but we wanted to make sure we did as much as we could to make it feel like more. Hector's team prepped/excavated the space, removed the old concrete pads, added additional drainage, and then installed a complex paver system, drip irrigation, plants, and lighting in about 2 weeks time. Hector's bid was the highest of the four other bids we received, but I will say that the workmanship and organization was worth the additional money in my book. You get what you pay for. The team was very responsive and setup a group text with Hector and the team working on our yard so we could easily communicate with them whenever we had questions - this was a very nice touch and I wish other contractors did something like this. They arrived on time, cleaned up after themselves, and finished the job on time. The only issue we had was with the suggested architect who we felt was less than helpful/responsive after we paid him. After our HOA rejected his first draft and asked for a couple minor adjustments, it took him (the architect) 2 weeks and many-many follow-ups to get a revised plan. This set us back at least 2 weeks and I spent more time than I would have liked emailing/texting him to get the revisions. For the amount of money we paid him, and after talking to our neighbors about what their architects provided and charged, I would reccomend doing some additional research for someone else. Our driveway was in need of professional help. We needed to address adequate sprinkler coverage, replant two dead trees, remove weeds and replant. It was a huge undertaking as we live on a flag lot and have a 150' driveway with a sizeable planting area along side of it. Hector Sanchez Jr. reviewed our project with us. He showed up on time, and gave us a detailed description of the work necessary. Hector also checked in periodically to confirm our project was running smoothly. We hired the absolute best Family owned Landscaping Company in the world! They are knowledgeable, fair priced and reliable! Hector Sanchez knows his stuff. We met at both of my properties to redesign the traditional landscape to a more drought friendly landscape with dedicated drip system to each plant. They removed lawns and replaced backyard with DG (Decomposition Granite) using a reddish brown color that I picked out from a variety of natural colors. We designed our front yard with a River Rock Hardscape intermixed with beautiful drought tolerant plants and lush green ground cover with blooming seasonal flowers (all drought tolerant) . All the valves and dedicated lines and fittings are new. My other property has tenants and is a townhome with a nice backyard. Once again, Sanchez Landscaping came through with medium brown bark that looks fantastic and redesigned whereby adding a drought tolerant mix of plants, while simultaneously removing a hedge and 3 trees that had required excessive watering. Hector has a great crew of workers that are highly trained and focused on doing the job professionally along each step of the way from arriving on time, to obtaining materials, demo project of lawn removal, capping old sprinklers, preparing with weed barriers, root barriers when needed for the Pygmy Palm trees, compressing the DG to a solid even surface, and to perform daily clean up prior to leaving the premises. The final jobs look great and will conserve significant amounts of water that allow us to comply with the Emergency Drought restrictions mandating only 3 days per week of outside watering with specific time limits too. I had got in touch with this company via Yelp, and they were quick to respond and set up an appointment for the estimate. Hector was nice and communicative, at first. He visited on a Tuesday and I was told that I'd have a quote by the end of the following day. That didn't happen. I finally received the quote that following Monday. No big deal, I understand they have other clients. I had a question on the quote, looking to make a modification to one of the proposed options, so I sent an email back. I heard nothing for a week. I then called them, and was told that Hector was out doing estimates that day and that he would call me back by Thursday. No call. I sent another follow up email the following Tuesday, and since then it's been almost 2 weeks. No response. Not once through this interaction have I been demanding or unreasonable. I expect at least a common courtesy of returning calls or messages, but have gotten no such respect. I would not recommend this company. read more

The backyard of our dreams is finally here. A little backstory, our backyard and hillside were brunt by the 2019 Tick fire. Between waiting for insurance payout, the arrival of our second child and medical treatment we finally were ready to find a landscaper. We searched out 5 companies in total; 2 were not licensed, our lowest estimated we could not come to terms with an issue, and then our highest estimate wanted over $50,000 for 2,750 sq.ft. of sod, place groundcover on 1,500sq.ft. slope, and fill 2 side areas with gravel and stepping stones. Sanchez Landscaping estimate was in the middle and was reasonable priced for both parties. After the contract was signed things began to move fast. His guys were here daily working early in the heat of the summer to knock out all the steps for our new yard. The little thing that we appreciated. 1. They picked up after themselves at the end of each day. 2. They pick up and moved some heavy planter for me from the backyard to the front. 3. I could alway ask one of his guys simple questions; i.e- When do you think you will get all the lines in by? Please note: Hector was always available by phone/text or email for questions. 4. The very detailed estimate/contract. My father was very impressed with how well the estimate/contract was written detailing the exact steps with exact quantity of sod, gravel, pipe, nozzles, mesh, plants, that were to be used. 5. Time and efficiency from start to end date of project. There wasn't any waiting days for material. 6. The wifi timer. Don't know whats up with technology and men but my husband loved this. We went to Cancun for a week and he could water the grass via his phone from there. 7. He gives you a warranty. There is something about a warranty that just gives you piece of mind. Sanchez Landscaping stands by their material/labor, although warranty differ per part. Again everything was outlined in the estimate/contract. After a couple of days we noticed that water was bubbling out slowly from a pipe near our driveway. Within notifying one of his guys they informed Hector, and his guys were out fixing it days later. With that pipe being our only issue during this whole transformation, we couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience. But as always a picture speaks a thousand words. Starting with the quote meeting, Hector Sanchez did a great job listening to my plans / ideas and collaborating on the execution proposal. Hector and his crew did an excellent job with our backyard. Our home had a lot of stone and rock as the backyard - and we wanted a place with grass and greenery that we could enjoy. Hector and his crew demo'd what was there previously, built up a nice stucco planter/wall, two flowerbeds, and lawn in place of the previous stone ground. It looked great. This summer, much of the grass died out, and Hector sent his crew out twice to try reseeding. Neither of these took, so the crew recently resodded the entire backyard again. I appreciated that they did this - many companies wouldn't care to do that. At all points, it's been clear that the company cares about the quality of the work, and the craftsmanship that goes with it. If there's one drawback it's been that sometimes it's hard to get in touch with the company, but when they do, things have been great. The previous owners laid down plastic and put gravel on top covering the drains. For years the gravel pit has been driving us crazy but Hector and his team lead Efrain took care of this! After demo there were some supply issues with pavers but the team was so quick to inform us and we pivoted. Efrain was very meticulous of measuring and making everything level. I used their website to fill out an estimate request for work I need done in my rear and side yard. I received an immediate email response stating someone would get a hold of me as soon as possible. After 7 days with no response, I decided to give them a phone call. I spoke with a young lady who could find no record of my request. Rather than take all my information while we were talking on the phone, she instead instructed me to fill out the form again on the website and resubmit my request. Once it was received, she said she would try to get someone to contact me before the end of the day. I again submitted the request form and received the same immediate email response stating someone would contact me. No one contacted me by the end of the business day, and I've yet to hear from anyone 4 days later. And my search continues. read more

After moving into our new home, we had plans for gradual upgrades to really make it our own and a far cry from the townhouse we lived in prior. When the mega-rainy season turned our yards into the worst kind of rain forest, we decided to opt for an outdoor makeover. A good friend of ours is a retired corporate landscape designer, so she was happy to draw up plans for our space. Sanchez Landscape was one of very few companies to look at them and work with her vision of the yard, rather than trying to sell their own. Throughout the entire process, Hector, Carlos, Jennifer and all the other team members involved were in near-constant communication via group text messages, not to mention, happy to answer questions on-site whenever they could. They cleared, leveled and segregated the yards, added a gravel area for a fire pit, dug the hole for a pond liner, brought in and laid out mulch and planted new, drought tolerant myoporum plants. Even with just a few very minor hiccups, the work was completed in a timely, professional manner and we never felt we were being left in the dark on next steps. After initially turning down the option to add a drip irrigation system (due to budget), when we changed our minds a month or so later, the team was back to install the new sprinklers in record time. In addition, thanks to the crystal clear bookkeeping provided by the company, we were able to submit our paperwork to the city's water-wise program for drought-proofing our outdoor space, resulting in a substantial rebate. Hats off to Sanchez Landscape! My irrigation system was in shambles (old, worn, broken) and I didn't know how or what to fix, let alone where to start. I sought out multiple quotes and had a few promising conversations. I selected Hector and the Sanchez team for the first visit and estimate based on their Yelp reviews. After the initial walk through and the explanations and suggestions of how to approach a solution, I was sold. Hector brought in one of his irrigation guys, Luis, to offer a formal estimate. Luis was straight forward, respectful and never tried to upsell. He laid out options clearly and left it to me to establish the plan. In the end, I had front and back lawns done with upgraded sprayers and installed three drip systems. New valves, pressure regulators and new WiFi enabled control unit. As stated in a previous post, not the cheapest, and the most expensive. The value comes with the knowledge and workmanship provided, along with the courteous service that was consistent with every employee and with every interaction. We had reached out to Hector due to our sprinkler system leaking and causing a mini flood on the side of our house. We also knew it did not function properly, and we had more issues than just one. We JUST wanted the leak to be stopped. Once our technician, Luis, showed up, he let us know that he could do just that, fix our leak. However, once he got started, he reassured us that it would be easier to have a fully functioning system for a lot less than we had imagined. In the past, we had been quoted THOUSANDS of dollars. This was not the case. We are so grateful and thankful to have found Hector and his associates. It is fair to describe them as friendly, fast, honest and trustworthy.
