A few weeks back I visited this location and, being completely new to the store and sports cards in general, I found the person at the front, his name was Ryan and he was extremely helpful. He took the time to explain the differences between sports cards, helped me understand how card values work, and answered all my questions without making me feel like a beginner. I ended up getting much more interested in collecting because of the experience and the kind customer service I had in this interaction at this shop. As a rookie to the card collecting game, I was curious as to what shops are THE spots here in San Diego. Visited SD Sports Cards and was blown away by the organization, inventory, and welcoming staff. They're an authorized retailer of Topps (which is really what made me come by), and have everything in sports and TCG from baseball, football, basketball, wrestling, ufc, pokemon, etc. It's a small shop but they're set it up well to be able to find what you're looking for easily, whether it's supplies, autos, graded, or raw base cards. Staff also let me know of their Mira Mesa location which I still have yet to visit. Haven't bought anything yet, but did catch that some of the most coveted card boxes (i.e. boxes that only come with 1-3 rare cards) were cheaper than I've seen at other shops! Be very careful with SD Sports Cards' breaks. Their setup is intentionally unclear -- unless you read the fine print like a lawyer, you won't realize that even if you buy a team, you might not get the hits. I bought the Browns with the clear understanding that I'd be eligible for XRCs. During the break, an XRC hit that should've gone to the Browns didn't -- it went to "someone else" To add insult to injury, the breaker actually laughed about it live on stream, joking with his regulars about how the guy who bought the Browns wouldn't be getting the card. Real professional. This feels like a straight-up money grab. Why would anyone purchase a team and then have to pay extra just to get the hits from that same team? What a joke. Total bait-and-switch. This isn't just confusing, it feels rigged. Avoid unless you enjoy getting burned. read more

A fun modern card shop. They specialize in sportscards, amd TCG to a lesser degree as well. All employees at both locations are extremely friemdly and knowledgeable it is definitelyy a shop to hit up in my rotation. read more

I went here today for the first time and was not disappointed. The people who were working were super friendly and inviting. I have been to a few card shops where you almost feel like you are not welcome and this place is the opposite. I got a 2023 Topps Series 1 hobby box and a 2022 NFL Mosaic blaster. I am actually currently writing this review in the middle of ripping both of these boxes just because I am so stoked to have a legit card shop nearby. This is really great community card store that caters to all levels of the hobby. They have all different sports with everything from a good volume of dollar boxes, a broad range of singles on display, high end hobby boxes/cases, and retail boxes of the most recent releases. Their pricing on product is generally fair and in line with the market. They also do online breaks and have a strong IG presence, but that's not really my section of the hobby so I can't speak too much to it. I have been pleasantly surprised by this shop multiple times in the past few months. The first time was on the much hyped release of 2024 Bowman Baseball, a product that is often priced by shops well in excess of other markets (online distributors and retail pricing). I grabbed 2 blasters of Bowman, that were not marked up at all, they were priced the exact same as Target. While it seems like a small thing, to those who know the hobby, this isn't a given and is more of an exception to the rule. They also had a bounty of $15 (half the price of a blaster) for any autos hit out of a retail product that were ripped in store. Perfect, I'm a degenerate and would rather rip my box in the shop than like an idiot in the parking lot. One of the dudes who works there came over to chat with me during my rip which sounds awkward, but was relatively pleasant because they hire good people there who are in touch with the hobby and collectors. Lo and behold, I actually hit an auto, so I earned a $15 credit for my next purchase there. What a great way to build up goodwill with your community and also incentivize customers to keep coming back. When Topps Series 2 release, they also hooked me up with a well priced jumbo HTA case on release day. It really made me happy to see them treat me well when I was both a small fish buying individual retail boxes, and as a big fish buying a $1k+ case. I think a lot of this comes from the owner being a longtime collector who has younger kids who (I think) he probably wants to see involved in the same hobby as himself. I've never walked out of the shop being disappointed, which I can't say for other shops in San Diego. Keep up the great work, Alex and Team.
