I have used Michael's for a variety of reasons. My most recent stop was to purchase a frame for a Christmas gift. The gal at the frame area was super helpful after I found the frame I wanted and even assisted with inserting my picture on the frame. She helped explain how the frame worked (never had a floating frame before) etc. they had a great deal ok picture frames (but one get one) which was awesome! In the past I have also had a custom frame made here for an art piece I purchased. I had a great experience then as well. They do teacher discounts which I appreciate and they have a lot of fun items I can use for my classroom. Lines can sometimes. E long for the holidays, but overall I really love this place and what they offer. read more

While using the self checkout one of the items I had grabbed was not eligible for a buy 2 get one free deal. When I requested help getting a replacement item, the worker told me that I should have been more mindful of the long line of people waiting to use the self checkout and I needed to finish my transaction without getting a replacement item and get back in line. Horrible customer service, and the long line of people waiting to checkout should not be my issue. I completed my transaction and left as the worker had been so rude. read more

I've been coming to this location ever since I was a kid and I have always found whatever I've been looking for here, no matter what my hobby at that time would be. Michael's pretty much has anything that you need for whatever arts and crafts project you're working on. I've been here for school projects, art class supplies, and casual hobbies. I would recommend signing up for their rewards program/installing their app because then you get some pretty good coupons, and if you go there enough, then you can get vouchers for a certain amount off your next purchase. I must say though there's no music playing in the speakers at all so it gives off this quiet, eerie vibe to it since it's dead quiet. The only other thing is also that it's kind of hard to find someone working here to help you out if you're trying to look for something. It always seems like there's only 1 or 2 people working out on the floor (even pre-covid) so it's hard to track them down. As far as covid regulations they only really regulate it at the check out area where they put down 6' spacers on the floor and put up acrylic barriers at the counters. This location in Carmel Mountain is convenient. It's located close to the AT&T store. Plenty of parking in this plaza mid week afternoon. The store had a strange vibe to it. A lot of people at the check out line but the store itself seemed quiet and empty. Some shelves looked minimal without little stocked. Sis wanted to get a small treasure chest and a few other items. Somehow she found it here via their website so that was a plus. But the line to pay was tough. I'm not sure if there weren't enough cashiers. Our cashier was very friendly and knowledgeable. She let us use our coupon twice (I think we did two separate transactions). So overall the visit was a success and we were satisfied. read more

For my birthday, my friend signed us up for cake decorating class at Michael's. Something I would never even think about doing! When I think about craft class, I usually think about stay at home moms wanting to get out. I usually don't like decorating. It takes a lot of time and patience which I just don't have. Clearly I needed to be committed to the class. With being on a budget, I kept printing out their weekly coupons. You can either get it from their weekly ad online or cut it out of your Sunday paper. I purchased something from the store each week for the class. The different Wilton products that were used in class made decorating so much easier. The store was pretty much stocked up with everything that I needed. I learned the different techniques and methods used to decorating a cake. It did make me enjoy decorating and appreciate everything I made. How to hold the icing bag at the right angle really makes a huge difference with being comfortable decorating and the way everything turned out. Elisa the teacher was very nice and explained everything very well. She was a very good teacher and I hope to take another class with her. I usually just saw members of the staff checking people out. Nobody usually around in the aisles. It's always good to walk around and talk to customers. It is a nice store. I've been going here ever since I was a kid needing craft supplies. My goodness, the people here are rude! And I ain't talking about the workers, I'm talking about the customers! I had taken my mom here yesterday, seeing how she needed some beads for a few crafts she was working on. But, I don't know if the customers were so focused on what they were looking for, or if a number of them were really cranky, or if the allure of holiday crafting made them super focused (news flash: Christmas season starts next week - you all have time!), but the number of ladies that were just rude to my mom was astounding... can't you all be a bit nicer to a little old Filipina lady who doesn't go to Michael's on a regular basis? Sheesh - never get in the way of women and their crafting, I suppose! It's a shame, as this Michael's location is quite spacious with plenty of crafting materials (though they need more registers), and while I'm not exactly in their target market, there's some edible goodies that caught my attention. Amongst these was a 5-lb. gummy bear (64 servings!), but I couldn't find a price tag on it nor on the display shelf. Going to Michael's in Carmel valley really showed me what "Customer Experience" means. It wasn't necessarily the Michael's store, but Renee from Framing. Renee is an amazing human being, with great social skills and insanely knowledgeable about art products. It's apparent from the first few seconds that Renee has an intimidate understanding the tools of the trade. I randomly walked down an aisle and asked an employee about acrylics. WOW! I didn't realize I was going to this so many technical art questions. What a fantastic experience. To think, she's just a kid and already this knowledgeable about the store's products and and art techniques. When I asked, "is this your section?" She replied, "No. I work in framing" WTH! Imagine how much she knows about framing. I was going to just get a few cheap acrylics. I left with canvasses, sketch books, colored pencils, markers and brushes. I still have to get acrylics. This store is ginormous. We went here for some last minute wedding supplies.We ended up buying wooden fans which were really nice. Last box on the shelf and it was opened, I counted it and it only had 14\15 in the box. Also treat bags for the guests and filled it with chocolates. When we got to the register we showed the cashier the box and she gave us a discount. They also take competitor coupons..Sweet!! so I whipped that up on my phone to show her. My second visit was around Xmas time. It was packed a lot of people. I actually couldnt find my mom in the store. Hardly anyone around to ask for assistance. We could not find the GOUACHE in the paint aisle, and when attempting to use the website on my phone, the "buy in store" feature was not sticking and not allowing us to see the four products available at the Carmel Mountain Ranch store. (The checkmark would check the box, but would disappear after a half-second.) Brooke was able to radio request an associate to help us, and Amy came to our rescue. Turns out Gouache was several isles over on a promotional end cap. She also showed us an Acrylic Gouache paint that was above our skill level, and I appreciated that, so next time we are in, I know exactly where to find it. (I didn't even know Acrylic Gouache was even a thing). Amy also assisted us with paper selection as well. We made our way back to the cash wrap where Brooke was very sweet and gave excellent customer service, also. 5 stars for both ladies, and to the hiring manager who recognized service and skill, 3-4 stars for corporate for not having signage (watercolor, acrylic, oil) dedicated to a small gouache section, and a funky website glitch. I was rather annoyed that several $5 bead items were locked up, so I opted to get the $4 version right next to it. Does the $1 make a huge difference? Apparently it does. The checkout line was quick. The give a military discount also for anyone who doesn't know that. My visit was a quick in and out without a lot of issues, for which I was thankful! Not sure if this is corporate return policy or just this store, either way this policy is so outdated and should be revised. When returning items with the original receipt, the refund should go back to the original payment method automatically, without the need of the credit card used at the original purchase. Today, several items were retuned to this store with original receipt but the cashier said the credit card used at the original purchase will need to be physically present to get the refund back to the card. This is not making sense at all. What if the item was purchase online via PayPal or other payment method? Refund should be going back to PayPal, not to the source payment method. How do a customer show the PayPal account? At elsewhere, like target, old navy, or any other retail stores, or Amazon, if the original receipt is presented, the refund will automatically go back to the original payment method, no card or ID required. If this is the corporate policy, they need to update their policy to catch up with technology. If this is just the cashier lacked of training, need more experienced staff and better customer services. read more

Every year for Comic-Con, I cosplay as one of my favorite movie, cartoon or video game characters. This year, I'm going to be Chun-Li, from Streetfighter 2, the first lady of video game fighting and an all around bad ass bish. I have been obsessed with her character since my teens and decided to play her this year. But since I like to DIY most of my projects, I need a handy dandy arts and crafts supply store that can suit my needs. Enter Michaels. Good old Michaels! I refuse to grow up. Try and stop me and I will throw a KIKOKEN projectile in your face! But I digress. If you download their app, you can get a ton of coupons to save you some mucho dinero. I needed ribbon, fabric glue, spray paint, sewing supplies and other good stuff to add some oomph to my bare bones costume. It's definitely more organized and cleaner than some other locations I've frequented. Staff is generally happy to help you find what you need but for the most part, I find everything on my own just fine. Framing is also another specialty of theirs and coupons apply to this service as well. So either look for their circular or again, download their app for some great savings. It's fairly well stocked and easy to navigate. If you're crafty like me, you will love Michaels, particularly this one. They often have great items on clearance and for Halloween last year, I was able to get a ton of faux fabric flowers for my Dia De Los Muertos look. I believe they were only 75 cents each...SCORE! Terrible service! The associates are grumpy and seem to lack basic knowledge of their job responsibilities. Every time I go into this store I regret it. I placed an online order because the website raves about the convenience of curbside pickup but the reality is that its a huge hassle to pick up. After waiting 20 minutes to be help I finally left the store, called the store and was told if I waited out front an associate would bring me my order. When no one came I had to go back in the store and spoke with 3 different employees before I found someone willing to find my order. It's always a nightmare dealing with this place. read more

I went there with my girlfriend to pick up an online order before we realized they would send us an email letting us know when the order was ready for pickup. We stopped by this lady, Alexis?, in the store and explained the situation to see if there was something we could do to pick it up now, since we live far and didn't want to drive back and forth. She first said, the order wasn't ready yet, she was the one responsible to get online orders ready but she was doing other things as well, so she was overwhelmed and it should take about two hours for our order to be ready or so. There was some attitude in her tone but she seemed busy so that was understandable. No problem. We went to another stores close by to complete our Christmas shopping, had lunch, came back two hours later. That's when it all went downhill. We still hadn't got our email about the order but 2 hours had passed so it should be ready or close to ready right? So we went to the place where it said online pick up only. Nobody was there BUT Alexis was right by it dealing with the costumers who were getting frames. I tried to call her attention to ask a question about the order. (We knew where the product was so we wondered if someone could scan it or something and we could pick up and go our way.) She rudely said she would be with us in a second and proceeded to ignore us. Seemed like she had no intention to deal with us so my girlfriend went out to try to find another staff willing to help to no avail, the store is ridiculously understaffed. Finally a nice employee came by and we explained the situation. His name was Miles and he was very polite and helpful. We asked our question and he tried to look up our order to see if there was something he could do but unfortunately there was nothing that could be done at that point because our order wasn't even in the system yet. Had the first staff (Alexis) explained that in the first place instead of giving us faulty information and proceed to ignore us when we came back based on the info she gave us, we could have gone away and taken care of other stuff instead of hanging by around, planning our day around it. Came here to get some ribbons and one ribbon I was looking for was out of stock. I went up to the register and asked if they could call the Poway location to see if they had it in stock. The cashier told me to go to the register next to her where another employee was. Ok, no problem. She asked me what the SKU number was, which I didn't have. She proceeded that she couldn't do anything without the number. HOW ABOUT YOU DO YOUR JOB AND ASSIST ME WITH THAT. It isn't that hard to go to the aisle with me to look for an item. Then she had the audacity to tell me her register was closed so she couldn't check me out. I had to wait in line at the original register I was at earlier. Complete waste of my time. I give this place one star. Half a star for the actual service, and half a star for their music they had. That was the only thing I enjoyed. Go to Poway. They were extremely helpful. read more

It's a HUGE store with minimal staff. Unlike another location I visited this past week, this location lacked the assertiveness to assist customers find products as well as any urgency to whittle the line down at the check out line. Quite unbelievable since this is probably their busiest season. I still love Michaels nonetheless but will just go to another location where staffing becomes a priority. Michaels is the mecca of art & DIY supplies and their prices are quite PHENOMENAL and their inventory AMAZING. Again, it's just too bad there is less attention given to customer service. read more

If the Zombie Apocalypse hits tomorrow I'm going to Michaels. Why? Cuz you could build anything you want out all of the stuff they have here! I honestly believe you could build a kind of D.I.Y. arsenal (like in A-Team ya know?) with all the supplies here. Turn me loose. Iill build you a Rainbow Zombie Death Cannon by 7:30. The obvious drawback for such an event is the lack of healthy food. With the Undead approaching, you'd be surviving on a sugary ration of check-out-line candy bars, Ghiradelli chocolates, gummy worms and beef jerky. Given that beef jerky is the healthiest option, I would ration it out slowly, making sure to balance the protein vs sugar intake. You want to be able to focus when the undead invade. If you have any trouble finding items to assemble the Zombie cannon, the staff here has got your back. They are literally the 'A-Team'. And for pete's sake, USE those 50% off coupons they send you in the mail! Then find your most strategic location to attack. Good luck out there. read more

I've just recently discovered how awesome Michael's is and have been going several times a week, especially when they have a 50% off one regularly priced item. I bought a bunch of kids activity kits as Christmas presents as well as some jewelry items, art supplies, etc. I typically visit on weekday mornings, prior to noon and never have a long wait in line. The closer to noon you visit, especially now during the Christmas/gift giving season, the line can get really long but moves fairly quick as long as they're properly staffed at the registers. I went once when the line was really long and they were "line busting" people, basically scanning items the person was purchasing and putting it all onto a card which is presented to the cashier up front and simply bagged since it's all already been scanned. Pretty nifty if you only have a handful of items. This store is smaller than the Michael's I occasionally visited in the West SFV, and aisles are narrow. On busy days, it's hard to look at jewelry stand in the middle of the aisle without blocking a person/cart. Parking can be a scarce at times as the store is located in a strip mall. At times, in the mornings, usually, I've noticed that some of their POS systems "freeze" but I haven't found it a terrible nuisance, since they always have someone else open up another register. And the sales associates have always been friendly. Oh and FREE WIFI in store!!!! I think all stores need to jump on this. It's the 21st century marketing teams, how can you not have free wifi everywhere, really? I'll be back to pick up hobby stuff and gifts. read more

I just want to say that this was my best experience in a Michael's store to date. Due to low stock and inventory in every store for an item I needed, I had to visit four Michael's stores in one week (good new's you can earn a Geek Badge for such an effort)! This location was the largest in San Diego that I visited, it was also the the cleanest and it had the friendliest and most helpful staff. I didn't have to ask for help, I was asked if I needed help! A MIRACLE of sorts! All I can say is go to the guy in the photo I posted. This photo was taken at the moment he picked up the phone to assist me! Honestly, if i had a retail business, I would steal him from Michaels. And...maybe if someone at Michael's in management took the time to read this they would provide this young man a raise! He actually called a couple stores for me and had the final items I needed held for me versus handing me a slip of paper and expecting me to do the work!
