If I could I would rate this 6 out of 5 stars. At first I was dubious of Sea Daddy just based on the looks outside. Once we met the owner he was genuinely a nice guy. Unfortunately we did not know it was cash only but between the few of us scrounged up $40 and bought his battered fish on stick. My sister had first bite and said OMG this just melts in her mouth. At this point this point I was hangry and it was finally my turn and the moment I ate the fish, it just melted. WOW! Other worldly so delicious, the batter wasn't heavy and thick like most other batter fish, just light and airy, tasty, fresh and what ever else that would put his fish on a pedestal. Best fish I've ever had hands down. If you go (bring cash $20/stick). So not only did we regret not having cash on us but the owner was so kind he even let us try a stick of his fresh fried shrimp which was equally as delicious. If ever visiting Sitka whether on cruise (like us) or traveling there go to Sea Daddy, you won't regret it. Such a cool place! "I got fish, I got water!" And he's right! Fresh caught that morning so it changes everyday and throughout the day. "You pay me $20 (CASH) and then it starts!" And he's right! Comes in a brown bag you tear open to lay out like a place mat. You get one hefty skewer with your choice of the fish of the day. Comes with a ziplock snack bag of tartare sauce. It's thin. But the fish is SO good it doesn't really matter. He has hot sauces, salt and malt vinegar. You pick what you want. We tried it all. Great thin batter keeps the fish the main focus. We trekked from downtown to Seadaddy, and worth the walk. It is unassuming when you first walk up, but as you go around the corner to the entrance you are transported back into the past/history of Sitka. "Scotty" or Scott Saline is the owner, he is super kind and welcoming. He cooks to order, and the catch's are fresh!! He explains what he has to offer that day, and currently only CASH ONLY! Sea Daddy is a bit of an out of the way place when you get to Sitka. About a 10-15 min walk from the cruise ship bus terminal in the downtown area. We went at 11am for opening, however we did find out that Scotty the owner opens when he is ready. The sign on the door stated to come back around noonish. As an owner, Scotty is a colorful character with great stories. As a chef, he is an absolute master with fried fish. The yellow eye and halibut skewers were unbelievably crispy, tender and juicy. His homemade sauce was creamy, tart and paired perfectly with the fish. While some might say that the $20 per skewer is pricey, however in my opinion it was a small price to pay for amazing food and some interesting stories. Very eclectic artsy place where Alaskan up-cycle is in full effect. The proprietor was an interesting fellow knowledgable about historical & current affairs in Sitka. Scotty is also an elected official trying to do right by his constituents, something many folks are fighting in a losing battle in America today. Onto the cuisine: we ordered yellow-eye & cod which were freshly fried in a light batter and the tartar was freshly made with Hellmann's mayo. Japanese mayo is superior but for this application, this was fine. The fish was wonderful and fresh. it is not cheap and no chips with those fish but dang that fish is good. $20 for one skewer of perhaps the freshest tasting fried fish you may have ever had. A once in a lifetime experience. Not a five star restaurant at all but would most certainly go back again. The food alone makes it worthwhile. No menu, just whatever he caught that morning is what you get. We had yellow eye and halibut. And samples of cod. There are no sides, just fish on a kebab stick. No plates, no utensils. This is a hidden gem! We walked here and thought we were about to go to a big restaurant. We came upon what looked like a run down shack. Upon entering, you see a mish mash of decor ranging from articles to photos to maps. The owner is super friendly and helpful. He said they only have Yellow Eye and halibut. We decided to try the Yellow Eye. It was amazing! The owner prepared a skewer of about 5 small battered pieces of Yellow Eye on a skewer along with a handmade dip made of lemon, malt vinegar and onion: all in a cup. He then proceeded to give us a little history of the area. This was a great find in Sitka. There are only 5 seats so be prepared to take your fish skewer to go. This is by no means fancy. It is literally a hole in the wall, but the food is fresh and tastes great. Cash only. read more

The kind of place that brings the "soul" to your trip in Alaska. I found this place on TikTok and ran my mom to come try it before our cruise left. Fish was amazing, we had the lingcod. So fresh. We were talking to local lady next to us and she was just telling us about this place and Scotty. This place is a gem if you're looking for a local, authentic place. The owner is a treat and he'll offer you to take his canoe out while ya wait. The fish was the most tender I've ever had; incredible. Saw this place on Tik Tok and thought we'd give it a try. It's a bit off the beaten path but totally worth the walk! The establishment has a unique vibe. The owner was very friendly and cooked the fish fresh to order. He only serves fish on a stick but he's doing something right because it was amazing. My husband said it was the best fish he ever had. Skip the mass marketing of Lincoln Street and come get the best fish and chips in town, and he does even sell chips! This unique restaurant is one of a kind and is a must stop when visiting Sitka. The owner Scotty is a truly amazing human and has been perfecting his craft for decades. All the locals know about Sea Daddy and so should everyone else too! After reading reviews my wife & I made a point to visit Sea Daddy as our cruise ship arrived on 10/21/2024. Scotty greeted us with a shocked surprise and said, "I didn't know another 'Love Boat' was in town? We were on the last ship of the season. He told us he was not expecting customers, but was quick to shift gears and start cooking a variety of fresh seafood choices. I have fished, eaten and cooked seafood for over 30 years and Scotty is as authentic as they come. He served us King Salmon, Spot Prawns, Ling Cod and Rockfish. A light, flavorful batter surrounded the perfectly cooked seafood. "Fish on a Stick". Homemade tartar sauce and a slice of lemon completed the meal. If you are looking for the real deal, this is it.
