Lindsey and Nickels were a great team behind the bar, providing excellent service! I had a Bloody Mary and when I said I wish it was a little spicy, Nickels quickly produced a jalepeno. The wife had a Mimosa flight. She really enjoyed it, as it gave her a nice variety. I did the Shakshuka and it was a little unusual as it was served on grits. I really enjoyed it. Wife's omlette was good.

Our must-order starters are the fried Brussels sprouts and the pimento cheese and chip dip. Wish there was more consistency in the tortilla chips as the restaurant made ones with honey dusting are superior to their store bought version. For mains, the smothered chicken is the standout. We much prefer it over the bone-in fried chicken--the pieces are juicier and more flavorful compared to the fried large bone-in chicken breast, which can be a bit less exciting. Go for the hot honey bird if you want a kick. The biscuits are a bit dry and A-OK - the butter and jam makes it taste better. If you're in the mood for something sweet with cinnamon and fall/winter spices, then sweet potato pancakes is a good option. The best value is coming during happy hour, though the offerings change periodically, so it's worth checking what's available. The restaurant is located right in the heart of Market Common, with free street parking and nearby lots, making it an easy and enjoyable stop overall.

If you go in the front door there are a few steps to climb. If you need flat entrances they are around back. The host took us to our seats and explained the buffet to us. It is only a buffet place. But you can order a take out as well. There were two tables of food and a dessert table. The salad bar seemed to never end. Everything was cut fresh with no limp vegetables or lettuce. Marilyn brought me coffee and Bev Tea. It was plenty hot and fresh. I absolutely love their coffee. I had two cups before I even finished my plate of food. Marilyn was very attentive to each table and came to ours often. After I finished my salad. I saw Carie filling a plate for someone. When she was done I asked her if she could get me a chicken breast. My joint pain and back pain had been extreme this week. Using the walker was even painful. Carie said, "Absolutely !" She returned quickly and with a smile. The staff is so kind. The manager Tommy came by our table to see how we were enjoying our meal. I let him know the salad bar was perfect. The chicken I enjoyed was tender and juicy. I also noticed the teamwork between the staff was easy and natural like a choreographed dance. Bev and I plan to return for the Easter Sunday Meal. It consisted of 2 deep fried soft shell crabs, 3 deep fried jumbo (and yes, they were actually jumbo) shrimp on top of a bed of various deep fried vegetables. Although the entire dish was deep-fried, it didn't feel heavy or greasy. And the batter chef Bo made mad it all sooooo flavorful! I ordered the granddaddy's grilled cheese. It was a very different take on grilled cheese, but also absolutely delightful!! I believe you can't go wrong with bacon and fig jam on sourdough bread. And for my side, I wanted something a little different so I ordered the sweet potato grits. Do yourself a favor and try them! They are rich and creamy and sweet but not too sweet... Perfect! As delicious as all that was, the showstopper was dessert. We had the lemon blueberry cake. There are not enough words to say how delicious this was! Dense, sweet, but also tar from the fresh lemon with fresh blueberries baked in with a perfect layer of cream cheese icing. I wanted to order another one just to take home. And if the food wasn't enough to keep us coming back. Our service was absolutely amazing. Rachel was our server and she was a rockstar!!! She knew the menu very well! She made amazing recommendations and was attentive and friendly and all-around wonderful! As an added bonus, we were seated in the perfect corner booth for date night. And they had one of their regular live music performers there which added just the right touch. We can't wait to go back!

Jan. 2026 My wife…read moreand I hadn't been back to 44 & King in a few years. With so many good restaurants in the area, we usually try new places, but before heading home we decided it was time to stop in again for dinner. As usual, we try to go during happy hour when prices are a bit better, and we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly she greeted us right away, handed us menus, and took our drink order. The menu had changed a bit since our last visit. My wife ordered a Coke, and I had an Old Fashioned. For food, my wife chose the Fried Crab Claws with fries, and I ordered the French Onion Soup along with the Pork Nachos from the happy hour menu. While we were waiting, the bartender asked where we were from. We told her Southern Maryland, and when I said Huntingtown, she immediately said, "That's where I'm from." That alone surprised us not many people even know where Huntingtown is. When we mentioned the road we live on, she said, "That's the road I turn on to my parents' house." This was the first time we've ever met a bartender or server over 400 miles from home who lived that close to us. Small world. Our food came out and my wife really enjoyed her crab claws -- I tried one and they were very good. My French onion soup had a nice, deep beef flavor and was very tasty, but after a few bites there was a heavy pepper bite that came through. It was still good, but I had to switch over and eat some of my nachos, which were also good, though different from how I remembered them. I think the BBQ sauce changed the flavor, and the lettuce (which I usually prefer without) was something I should have asked to leave off. I asked my wife to try the soup and mentioned the pepper and that it might be a little spicy. She agreed it was good but said it would be better if it wasn't so peppery. A little later, the chef came out and introduced himself, Bo. He asked how everything was going. I told him everything was good overall but mentioned the heavy pepper bite in the onion soup and asked if that was normal. He said it shouldn't be that strong and that it needed to be toned back. Bo then asked if we had ever tried Mama's Soup, the tomato vegetable soup on the menu. We hadn't, and he asked if we'd like to try it. Not long after, he brought us another bowl and said, "This is Mama's soup give it a try." It was a vegetable soup with hamburger and a tomato base, and it was so good. When he came back, he explained it was his own version of his mother's soup. We told him it would go perfectly with a gooey grilled cheese, and he laughed and said they actually have one on the menu. It was really nice of Chef Bo to come out, check on us, listened and know something wasn't quite right, and it's being taken care of. That kind of interaction truly makes dining out a better experience. It makes the place feel welcoming, like they genuinely want you there. Yes, we will return -- and we were told that Mama's soup is always on the menu.

We were promptly seated and drink orders were taken. The waiter reappeared about 15 mins later with drinks and cheese rolls and took the table's order. We settled on the Aspen family meal which consisted of 2 meats and 4 sides. We chose smothered pork tenderloin and fried chicken along with mac 'n cheese, collard greens, fried okra and candied yams. Fried chicken was awesome, crispy, with an assortment of dark and white meat pieces. We were looking for a knife because of the pork tenderloin and realized you don't need it. It was that tender. You could cut it with a fork and it too was awesome. Everyone raved about all the side items except the mac & cheese it was a bit on the bland side so it was not our favorite. There was no need for a refill of any of the food. The first round was very ample sized and everyone left very satisfied. And if I have a bit of feedback, our waiter was not attentive unlike the waitress serving the tables in our same area. He was didn't bother to come back and see if we needed a refill on any of the drinks or the food. The only disappointing thing was they no longer offer you a small sample size dessert to finish up your meal. It's been a while since I've dined here so I'm not sure how long that change has been in place. However, we understand the food industry continues to be impacted by the current economy. Overall, the restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms. It's a nice place to feed a large family who hates buffets.

Will say the area, the location, the draw and the atmosphere is fantastic, but not the food. Our family left disappointed by the overall quality of the meal, particularly given the establishment's reputation and the high price point. The cost for 4 people exceeded our expectations an amount that felt disproportionate to the overall experience provided. The service was adequate. Our waitress was courteous, but could have kept up on our drink refills. The food fell significantly short of our heightened anticipation. Dishes arrived at the table within minutes of ordering, far quicker than would be consistent with individual dish preparations. This is served family style with options of your main courses and sides. The okra was good, but had some very hard pieces. I bit down on one that was so hard it could have broken a tooth. Green beans were decent, but extremely salty. The creamed potatoes were the best thing in my opinion and we were able to be served both the white & brown gravy's. The fried chicken was so dry and uneatable, with extremely minimal flavor and texture that did not meet standard expectations for Southern-style preparation. We realized after the fact: you can request the chicken parts. The macaroni & cheese tasted mushy offering little depth of homemade character. The biscuits were also very dry. They looked great, but tasted bland. The fried fish & tartar sauce was probably the most memorable dish. However, not everyone in our party had it because they do not like it. There's other options for "main" choices, but you'll have to compromise as a group. You'll have to do the same as far as the sides too! I would not recommend Paula Deen's Family Restaurant based on this visit and would advise potential patrons to consider other options for Southern comfort food while in Myrtle Beach. There are many more options within this great broad-walk complex. That said, I would suggest shopping in the gift store located in the downstairs of the building, as there are lots of merchandise that represents Paula Deen far better than her eatery. * If you happen to be a Food Network FAN (like I am). Flavor Town is coming to the other side of town. Location will be at the Myrtle Beach Mall & will open in June 2026*
