The word of the day, Communication. sadly Sea Marine hasn't gotten around on that one. The phrase of the day "Get it in writing" I will commend them for availability but outside that Not impressed. To start, my rudder had sheered from the post so got towed into point hudson, I had scheduled a haul out for that Monday so spent the weekend on it, Monday comes and Jeremy tells me "oh I thought we said Wednesday" shrugged then went back to the computer, Generally, a Confirmation email and /or phone call with the scheduled haul out would've been sent. Wednesday, June 10th comes, get the boat to the haul-out station and half way up both owners Jeremy and Chris tell me "oh yeah, we require a $6000 deposit in case you abandon the boat" Really got me by the short ones here; My boat/home is in the air needing repairs and you decide NOW to tell me $6000 is owed before it's even up? Not to mention scratching the HELL out of my hull paint. I ask for the 2 week bottom paint package......6DAYS LATER they got it sanded and painted. I opted to repair the rudder myself because I was quoted a minimum of $5,000 but luckily years of sailing and working on ships, yachts and sailboats; I know my capabilities. With rudder repaired and back on I knoticed some paint was flaking and they swore they did 2 coats but ODDLY out of the 3 gallons of bottom paint I gave them only 1 was used and it wasn't fully empty. Again, YEARS of doing this work I know a 40 foot sailboat needs 2 gallons of bottom paint so the mystery is either, Sea Marine is pulling the sails over my eyes, my years of doing this work and math are liars OR we discovered a Bottom paint equivalent of Hanukkah oil that only One gallon was able to do 480 square feet TWICE. I'm sadly going to choose option one because After showing both Owners the blister and chipped paint that wasn't sanded well or feathered I go inside to fix a few things and over hear Jeremy tell his painter "Just throw some paint on it, I'm tired of this". Are you? Because I'm pretty tired of Having No communication through this whole thing, the bullshit excuse "we tried calling but straight to voicemail", I can get signal 30 nautical miles off the coast, pretty sure you can reach me out on Marrowstone. Safe assumption, I won't return here for work to get done which sucks cause they were convenient and that's really about it save yourself the hassle, go to the main Marina/boat yard, they'll allow you to do your own bottom work cause apparently can't even trust contractors. So I will bite the almost $5000 tab for shoddy bottom work and Not contacting me until "Oh we're done" with the blister still open and not even sanded, but I'll make that back the first week of sailing so they can have that but my Review remains Permanently. read more

Very happy with a small fiberglass repair job on a damaged Boston Whaler hull. Chris stayed within my budget, the crew did a great job.

I think the job was okay, my biggest complaint is lack of communication, I had contacted them 5 times and only got a response when the boat was finally ready after 30 days. Weather was a factor, but I made my appointment in March for a May time slot, there were plenty of dry days to paint, but I kept getting pushed back. They might be taking on too much. read more

Recently took my Cutwater diesel powered boat in for annual maintenance, bottom washing and new zincs. Chris and Kaihla are very professional and good communicators. Everything was done on time as promised and the quality shows. We did have one hiccup when I went to retrieve the boat on Saturday. They had inadvertently left the battery on and the engine would not start. They are closed Saturdays but fortunately they have two very caring employees there that resolved the problem in less than 10 minutes. So 5 stars for doing a great job and bonus points for handling a potential problem very efficiently. read more

Had a repair done to a Sumbrella canvas cover. A 1" wide tie down trap had come off and needed to be sewn back on. Just a a couple inches of thread with a heavy duty sewing machine. 2 minuets tops. They performed the work satisfactory but I was charged $79 dollars for labor + $2.37 for the thread. Really. You charge me $79 labor for something that took a couple minuets and then for the thread also? When dropping off the tarp for repair Sea Marine never answered my questions about price other than to say they could do the work if I was willing to wait a few weeks and that it wouldn't cost much. I don't know about you but $79 is a fair chunk of change to me. They said their canvas repair guy needed to look at it and they would get back with me with a quote but that never happened. I guess I should have gotten a written quote in the beginning but you just don't think you need to for something so simple. That was my error. If you have work done here be sure to get an exact quote because you may be in for a costly surprise. read more

We had a new dodger installed by Sea Marine as well as a new main sail cover for our Saga 43 sailboat. The staff at Sea Marine were courteous and efficient and the final work was very professionally accomplished. They were able to fit us into a narrow time window and completed the work on schedule. last summer i had boat problems with my 17' 1995 Boston Whaler. bottom line -- a corroded fuel tank that needed to be replaced. this was in the height of the summer busy season for them, but they were so customer friendly it was unbelievable. they bent over backwards to find a way to solve my boat problems. and they did so in record time and with great quality. read more

Took my Boston Whaler in for a bottom paint job. I got a verbal estimate which seemed ok but I didn't get it in writing. Silly me for trusting them. The paint job was good but the price was almost double what I thought it was going to be. Make sure you get it in writing because if not they will totally rip you off! read more

I went up to SEA marine for some canvas work. And I will say their canvas people I dealt with, a married couple, did fine work in a timely manner. It all fell apart when I also asked Chris the manager if they could also replace both alternators on my main engines (44' Tolley) as well as the starter and solenoid on my 25 horse outboard on my skiff. Long story short it took many days and came in way over the verbally agreed estimate. Basically the way it was justified was by him telling me that they didn't know it would take so long and things were more complicated than they thought. I usually do all my own work but am trying to sell this boat and was operating under time constraints. My reply to him was that I was paying them for their expertise and efficiency, not to learn on the job. I could have paid myself a hundred bucks an hour to eventually figure it out. And the final straw is I just heard back from my broker who just had the boat out for a survey for a potential buyer. Apparently neither of the alternators is getting any juice to the batteries. I work offshore on boats and am currently not able to do anything about this so now I have a boat with a very basic problem which is quite possibly going to cost me potential buyers. So if either Chris or the owner of SEA marine is reading this I would like to know if you will step up and cover the cost for me to get this fixed? Dan read more

Took our wakeboard boat in to have it bottom painted and they did a excellent job. Told them we have been having engine trouble since we bought it brand new. They assured us they could fix anything. So we brought the boat back into Port Townsend an hour away from our home. One day later they called and said out boat was toast. We should call our insurance company and tell my it sank. After talking with them they explained the reason for these findings was due to the rust on the motor mounts. We live and ski on the Hood Canal. Any boat living in the salt water over time will rust. They never looked any further then opening the back end and charged us $100. On our way home we took the boat to AT Auto Repair in Port Hadlock. Aaron found the problem in an hour. A problem we have probably had since day one. Fix the boat and tune it up in a couple days. I think Sea Marine is a great place to get your boat bottom painted but leave the engine to a really mechanic. read more

This Month, I made my first boat purchase ever at Sea Marine in Port Townsend. Sandy was so very helpful and answered all of my questions no matter how insignificant they were to her. She was so kind and had suggestions to help make things easier all the way through to the end of the purchase. My boat is still stored there awaiting our maiden voyage on board her the first part of May to Alaska. The entire purchasing transaction went very smooth including the marine and mechanical surveys. Their surveyor, Bob, was extremely knowledgeable about boats and also very kind and helpful, answering all questions no matter how small. They make a great team, Sandy, the broker at Sea Marine and Bob, their surveyor. They help through the entire process of purchasing a boat. Sandy and Bob, both came in on their day off for our sea trial. We live about 10 hours away and could only make the trip on a weekend, which seemed to be just fine with them. Sandy was extremely fair and helpful. She made sure we knew about any problems with the boat in advance and helped with all of the paper work involved. After the sale, she referred me to people to help with the name change on the boat and carpet cleaning on the boat and both of those businesses were right in town. Even today, if I call, Sandy is always there to help, which she does not need to do since the sale is done. The entire buying process took only about three weeks and was a really great experience thanks to Sandy. I feel like we haven't just purchased a boat, we have also made a friend in Port Townsend. We plan to keep in touch with Sandy in the future. I highly recommend this place for the purchasing of boats. They have awesome boats for sale and excellent staff to help you out with any of your boating needs and they have Sandy and Bob, both great assets to any business. These guys know their stuff, they are true craftsman at their trade, and they keep their word. I searched months for a business to construct me a canvas cabin for my 20 foot Century motorboat. Before I stumbled upon the folks at Sea Marine, I spoke with other boat builders, canvas specialist and dealers, all of whom said the project was too complicated to effectively do. Not true. Thanks to the folks Sea Marine, specifically Jeff, Daniele and Liz in the Canvas Loft, I now have a fully sealed in, water tight, solid cabin to keep me warm on rainy, windy cold days. The cabin is strong, constructed so I can fish with it, sturdy at high speeds and easy to take off when I don't want to use it. I couldn't be happier with the quality, practicality and durability of the cabin. The creative process of these three is what makes this place so special, as they each bring a unique skill set, vision and trade to the table. What is more, they work with each other and me, so that their ideas fused with my needs and grew to create a truly unique boat that others said was impossible.
