We are so very happy with our home renovation! From start to finish, the Seapointe team did an excellent job making our vision a reality. Our renovation journey began about a year ago when we had another slab leak in our 43 year old home. This prompted us to get our whole house repiped. As you can imagine, there were holes all over the house, so there's no better time than now to get the renovation of our dreams started. We have had a wonderful experience with Sea Pointe Design and Remodel for the remodel of our primary bathroom. It started with us attending their seminar where you get a chance to hear about the company, see the projects that they have done, and meet the designers. There was absolutely no sales pressure. Due to a disability, had to have a new type door and window installed. Mike Hollander did the design, Chris Cerretani was the project manager and the two fantastic craftsmen were Danny and Lincoln. We are extremely pleased with the end results. The door and window look like they were originally with the house. Having never done something like this before we happily relied on Sea Pointe designer Melissa Zadoorian to help us make design and material decisions that matched our goals. We went to Sea Pointe for a home addition and remodel. They estimated $500k-$700k. We paid $4,100 for design and feasibility on 7/14/21. They then estimated $1.2 million and said without the addition, the project would go below the original estimate. So we removed it and paid $3,600 for design services on 8/20/21. They spent 6+ months struggling with a stairs remodel and offered options with estimates ranging from $300k-$750k, the high end required additions to the stairwell and garage. They said a stairwell couldn't fit to code. We got another opinion from a stairs specialist who told us it will fit as is. I researched the codes in Laguna Beach and showed Sea Pointe. They provided an option that required no additions. The estimate was $390k-$515k. They told us windows, floors, and paint (previously included) would be less expensive with folks who specialized in them. We followed their advice and removed them. On 3/10/22, we paid an engineering fee of $15,300. We also made a final payment of $5,500 for interior design, all told $28,500. On 9/21/22, Sea Pointe delivered a final agreement at over $1 million! We told them it was unacceptable. They said it went up for two reasons: inflation and because we're on a hill. Inflation may account for 10-20% (unlikely in 6 months), it doesn't account for more than doubling the high end of the estimate. Our home has always been on a hill, their whole team (who visited many times) knew this. On 10/17/22, we met with the VP of client relations. She was the first to acknowledge that the team messed up. So we ended the relationship. We reached out for a month requesting plans, engineering, and design which we paid $28,500 for. They said they only make plans for their construction. After several requests they insisted we sign a waiver to get the plans. The waiver told us we could not rely on any of their work, hold them responsible for it, and it couldn't be used for construction. We got a PDF but they stamped nothing, stood behind nothing, and marked "not for construction" on every page. We spoke to engineers and architects to draw up new plans. As we searched for an engineer, we learned Sea Pointe used a third-party engineer not an in-house one. We asked why they didn't tell us but they had no good answer and told the engineer he had to start from scratch. Sea Pointe said this is because there's a paragraph in their contract that says: "Per Contractor State License Board, all designs and plans are for the exclusive use of Sea Pointe Construction and are not intended for use by 3rd parties." This seemed irregular, so we reached out to the board and filed a complaint. The board found they had unlicensed folks signing contracts and this part of their contract was inappropriate and had to be changed. Buyer beware. Sea Pointe will give you low estimates to trick you into paying for engineering and design then more than double the price and say you don't get any of the things that you paid for. read more

I would like to first start by stating this just might have been my most pleasant experience working with contractors/skilled trades workers ever. From the exceptional communication to the way everything came together in the end, I am so thankful I found Sea Pointe for our bathroom remodel. We have a family, so our time is precious, and communication and expectation setting is crucial to help us manuever this precious time. Our project manager, Dane, was exceptional in this respect. We appreciated the weekly Friday emails detailing what work was done that week, and what work was on the slate for the following week, and any other pertinent ETAs. He would stop by routinely to check in on the work, and on us. Furthermore, he eagerly would see to it that any little detail that we cared about was executed to our liking. Similarly, our designer, James, was prepared each time with options curated from "inspiration" photos we sent. This made our design meetings feel much more pleasant and efficient. And as much as you can prepare a design, there will be hidden things about your house once you start opening up walls etc that will prevent certain design elements to be excecuted. James was always there, physically coming to the house, to lend his expertise as to how to tackle these unexpected quirks while maintaining the integrity of our planned design. Lastly, price. Sea Pointe easily was the highest cost bid we obtained, but you get what you pay for. The materials and finishes were top notch. The level of project coordination they provide (and de-burden you from) is top notch. These guys are a well-oiled machine! Something you do not often experience with home improvement contractors/trades people. I cannot say enough how pleased we were with this element. And time is money, so we absolutely will be using them again for future remodels. read more

Seapointe has a great social media presence but not one bit of it was true for our experience. First designer gave us an estimate within our budget and then left the company. Second designer showed up at our house for 15 minutes to introduce herself and then asked us to come to their office to sign a contract. She presented a budget over 50% higher and shrugged it off. We had liked the first designer and her design. We were told by the boss of the second designer to "trust the process" and that she was even more capable than the first designer. We believed him, and signed the contract. The designer never came to our home to layout the plan and never gave us a copy of the plan until 6 weeks after we signed the contract. At that point i finally began to realize all the mistakes, including an island overhang designed to impede in the adjoining walkway. Their answer was always "change order" meaning we should pay more for their mistakes. Things went from bad to worse, culminating in the discovery of egregious wiring mistakes that were concealed by the electricians and our project manager. Wolf appliances told us not to use the ovens until the wiring was corrected since it was very dangerous. The project manager claimed he had no idea what the electricians that THEY hired did and claimed the wiring had "passed inspection". It did not pass inspection and was against code. The project manager showed up once a week at most, always attempting to come in quietly and avoid speaking to us so he could quickly leave. Anytime we asked if (much less, when) any workers would be showing up, our project manager responded with irritation. His weekly reports were mostly fiction, causing my husband and i to wonder who he was trying to impress - it certainly wasn't us. The designer was no help either, never explaining nor checking on anything. We got a clear message that she was far more interested in her million dollar plus remodel in San Juan Capistrano. Our 8 to 10 week project took over 19 weeks and there are still mistakes that Seapointe refuses to correct, including a window seat at 20.25 inches high instead of standard chair height of 18 inches. Seapointe continues to blame us for "approving a plan" that was absurdly wrong. They offered a tiny amount of compensation and told us to fix things ourselves, noting there would be no warranty. What's the use of a warranty when something is not functional? I echo the sentiment of others expressed here. This company is extremely over priced and offers very poor service. Please save yourself and look for another company. read more

We were looking for a full-service design and construction team for a home improvement project. We feel extremely fortunate that we found exactly that in Sea Pointe! We worked with Sea Pointe on converting a bonus living room into a home office/study and updating doors and windows throughout our house. We are absolutely thrilled with how the project turned out! Working with Sea Pointe was night and day from our prior remodeling experiences with hands off contractors. Everyone we worked with from Sea Pointe was fantastic, from design, to project management, and construction. Natalie and Aaron on the design side were a pleasure to work with and helped us figure out how to bring our vision to life every step of the way. They were creative and patient with us as the scope of our project changed multiple times during the planning phases. Once the design was completed, they seamlessly handed the project off to our Project Manager, Dane Shimp. The construction work was well scheduled and planned in phases to contain the work and limit the disruption to our use of the remaining areas of the house. One thing that really struck was that they regularly demonstrated that they truly cared about the quality of their work and the finished product. Dane was in regular communication throughout the project on scheduling, status, and updates. The entire team was committed to all finishing work once the project was nearing completion and ensuring we were completely satisfied with the final product. Johnny is straightforward and honest and unlike our past experiences with other contractors, he will tell you the truth not what you want to hear. we are so thankful to Johnny who stayed focused on our project and planned resources in advance to get the project as complete as possible before our baby was born. You can tell Johnny loves his job and makes it seem like it's his own home he is working on. We've been lucky to work with other high quality SeaPointe staff - Roger, Dan, Jose, Dane, Brent and Antonio are always willing to lend a hand when we needed something. They say you get what you pay for, and so far, I'm very satisfied with the quality work and communication I have received from Sea Pointe! I am having a small guest bathroom completely remodeled and my fireplace is being redone, too. One thing I love is that Sea Pointe is a "one stop shop". They take care of it all...permits, HOA communication, design, electrical, plumbing, etc. ...which is what I really wanted. As a teacher, I have ZERO time during the day to coordinate any remodels, so this company has been the best choice for me. The staff has been a true pleasure to work with. James, Aaron, George, Randall, Adrian and Elias have shown the same respect for my home that they would have for their own home. I'm very pleased and excited to see the final products! read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! We selected Sea Pointe because they had a lot of 4 & 5 Star reviews of people saying they did great quality work. Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth!!! This was not our first home remodel. We used Airoom in Illinois, and they truly were a 5-Star company from communication to processes & procedures to luxury quality workmanship. As for Sea Pointe, communication started as a 4-star, however, once the contract was signed, communication dropped to a 2-star. We had to request meetings as we were not getting communications on our project. And even among their own team members, there was a huge gap in communication between designers and construction teams. We remodeled 80% of our home. We were told that it would be a 5-month process. Understanding that there were delays due to covid, we didn't expect the project to take 14 months. This is partly because we were given the C-team to start and 7 months into the remodel, we had a "come to Jesus" meeting with the Director of Production, who said she is assigning the A-team and would rework / repair a lot of the poor workmanship of our remodel. This so-called A-team wasn't much better than the initial team and took 7 months to get repairs made. They treated us like they were doing us a favor to make things right. In fact, the assigned project manager, Jim M, was on video telling the project engineer Melissa that we were being nit-picky on the repairs but not to worry because the job was "fatly padded". We sent the video to the director and owner and both said it was taken out of context, and that the job was not padded. We're pretty sure we heard it correctly as it is a 6-minute video. They even tried to tell us that they weren't making much profit on our project. Sea Pointe is HIGHLY over-priced for substandard work. We will give them credit for a few very good subcontractors, but Sea Pointe itself lacks process, procedures and coordination among their internal work groups. And they absolutely have a blatant disregard for their customers, but they'll spend hours pulling together CYA emails immediately calling for a void in warranty if something breaks or results in damage from their poor workmanship. It's been 5 months since the remodel was completed and we already have issues (electrical and water damage). Not once did they call to discuss the poor workmanship, which lead to water / mold damage. Instead, they communicated via email and responded to texts with emoji's. Completely unprofessional. read more
