Such and amazing experience! I've been fascinated by sailing for years but have never gotten to try it. I was VERY nervous to come on board and LEARN with a 3 hour private lesson with a few friends, considering we had ZERO experience between us. Our instructor, Amber, was so cool. She was as eager to get to know us as we were eager to get to know her, and while she let everyone get their hands on the boat's functions, she never pushed expectations or made us feel small for being novices. She would have stayed out with us longer if she could, and we would have too! Also important to note, the team was SO HELPFUL with rescheduling. When our sail date threatened heavy wind & rain all morning, they graciously changed our lesson date, giving us the best experience possible. My son Kullen who is 10 just finished up a week of sailing camp with Atlantic Yachting. This was his second summer in a row at his request. This was also the second year that we qualified for a full scholarship, which this camp would not be possible without it. This week we were greeted with the same smiling faces of the captains that we saw last year. These captains are professional, trustworthy, and responsible. My son has hearing loss, and anxiety, which makes it very challenging for him to be outside his comfort zone. Kullen would not return to camp if he did not have complete trust and confidence in the staff. I highly highly recommend Atlantic Yachting to anyone. I took ASA 101 with Atlantic Yachting and have done several practice sails with them afterward. I definitely recommend them whether you're interested in ASA courses or charters. They have small class sizes (there were 6 students in the course, with 3 on each boat), so we each got plenty of practice rigging and taking the helm on a J/24. The instructors were calm and kept everything under control as we navigated Hudson River traffic, made the common beginner mistakes, etc. They offer several practice sails throughout the week, with 2-4 people and an instructor on a J/24 or J/80, and I think these are a relaxing way to see the city and New York Harbor from the water and also brush up on sailing skills. This is a one of the best city summer camp experiences - period. My son has been attending for the last four summers and the kids get to experience their city in a completely new way while learning to be observant, intuitive and work in teams. Dave & Eric were not only super knowledgeable, but also hilarious in their teachings! Both days never felt long at all and I was surprised that they were able to cover so much in so little time. My 11 year old son just completed 2 weeks of Sailing camp and this was our second year. The crew at Atlantic yachting are fantastic with the kids; camp is laid back but well structured with the campers learning some sailing skills and having fun. I cannot recommend Atlantic Yachting enough. I entrusted them with the final stages of my engagement proposal and they delivered to the highest standard. Everyone from Henry and Caroline - who spoke to me on the phone and coordinated with the crew - to Dave the captain and Jamie the crew mate made it such a pleasurable and amazing experience. Jamie and other crew members helped carry 600 sunflowers down to the floating dock and arranged them on the boat in a beautiful arrangement. They even pulled the boat up early as possible to give us more time to get it prepared. They hid in the cabin while my then gf (now fiance) walked onboard and once she said 'yes' they came back to the deck and we set sail for the most amazing 2 hours sunset cruise. Their boat (The Vitamin Sea) was stunning and clean, they had glasses for champagne ready to go and also plated our picnic beautifully. The ride was smooth. Having taken group ASA 101, 103, and a practice sail with these guys I feel I must sing their praises. Eric & Sean (Shawn?) were our 101 instructors to start. Their affable & entertaining teaching styles helped make the concepts super easy to understand in the classroom portion. We split off and Eric was our boat portion instructor. He was patient with everyone, and had all the answers to our questions. Soon after that, we did a practice sail with Ace. The other two people didn't show so it felt like we had our own private boat. Ace was there to assist when we needed help but otherwise let us practice tacking and jibing on our own which was an invaluable experience for us. I then tackled ASA 103 and Jonathan was our instructor. There was a ton more to digest in this course vs. 101, but over the course of the weekend Jonathan covered just about everything we needed for the exam and then some. We even got to experience refueling the boat at a marina. Jonathan's instruction style, like Eric's, was personable and approachable & he's just an easygoing guy with great stories of his sailing experiences. I opted to go with Atlantic Yachting for my intro to the sport based on their reviews, and I 100% made the right choice. You can tell the entire staff loves what they do, and that makes for an amazing time on and off the water. I can't recommend them enough. Thanks so much! read more

He was in love with sailing and spent every possible moment on his boat, cruising Long Island Sound and up the coast to Maine. There is no better way to sail the Hudson River than with Atlantic Yachting. This was our 4th time out and it's always a blast. We thought there wouldn't be enough wind for a good evening sail, but the wind came up just as we boarded taking us down the Hudson at a good clip. We always do the "3 hour tour." It's the right amount of time to hoist the sails and then settle in for some great talk, drink and food with friends. Watching the city change from daylight to sundown to nightfall while the buildings light up is exquisite. It's always a delight to see the Empire State Building lit up for a special occasion; last night was Green, White and Red in honor of the Feast of San Gennaro. The crews are always great. Last night, Dave and Thomas were our Captain and First Mate, respectively, and they could not have been nicer or more helpful in keeping our party going. NYC is great, I've lived here for 25 years, and I'll be here until I die. There are so many great things to do in this city, but there are a few perfect experiences that are so unique and exciting- and this is one of those experiences. You have not seen New York until you've seen it from a sailboat, and if you do their ASA 101 training, you learn to sail in a weekend. It has opened up the rest of my life to sailing, and now any time I want to get out on the water I can. It's added a whole new dimension to my NYC life. Also the teachers are great. We booked a private 2-hour sailing trip and had an amazing time with Jonathan and Jamie as our crew. The views were incredible along the Hudson River with beautiful skyline views of Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. We were even able to bring our dogs. Our group brought meat, cheese, drinks, and even Smashburger on the boat to enjoy and I didn't expect the service that went along with our food & bev! Jamie uncorked our bottles, poured us drinks, and even prepared our food for us as we got to eat on the boat while watching a beautiful sunset. I took the AS101 course with Atlantic Yachting, choosing it based off of reviews and location. Unfortunately our experience was fine, but wasn't as stellar as most. The good: Booking the weekend class was easy and have comparative pricing compared to other sailing outfits, even in other states. The folks I worked with on the phone to book and ask a couple of questions were absolutely fantastic, as were the facilities and boats themselves. They take safety seriously and certainly know what they're doing. The bad: Our instructor did cram a lot of info in and tried to make it fun with corny jokes and tricks to remember things. However, he certainly didn't miss a chance to give himself credit for anything, share that he wrote the test, etc. and he was out right rude to one of the people in the class who wasn't picking things up quite as fast as the others. It wasn't bothersome, the person just didn't get the book in time so hadn't read it like the rest of us. Dave was SO SHORT with him. It got worse when we got on the boat- he was an absolute prick to everyone. Day 1, hour 5, there we are, never having sailed before and he belittled every single person while they sailed ( "I don't know why you keep fighting me on the tiller"- um cuz we didn't know you were using your leg to move the tiller, we thought we were holding it steady against the pressure of the water; "I guess you know more than I do" ) - so completely unsupportive and just arrogant. The icing on the cake: Got an email a few days after finishing the course soliciting a tip for our instructor. That's all that was in it. So I just paid $600 for 2 days of a class and now you want a tip?? This wasn't a tour, this was a class. I don't tip after going to a class I paid for- no one from Pelton asked me for a tip after my teacher training class. What the heck? And for you?? HARD PASS. I hope Atlantic Yachting gives some thought to this practice but more so reviews customer service and teaching support with their crew so others feel like this is a safe learning environment and can become sailors. read more

I did a group practice with 3 other students. The practice ran from 5:30 to 8pm and was for ASA 101 graduates. After boat preparation, we had about 1.5 hours on the water sailing. People are nice and the sailing was smooth. The trip is just too short and there are too many students on the same boat, which makes it impossible to actually practice any sailing skills. During my time at the tiller, I only sailed straight and did a tack. As a sailing tour, this was great. But it is not a sailing practice as I expected. read more
