I got my wedding hair and makeup done here at the Sea Spa Salon two weeks ago. First off, I will say that overall I was happy with both my hair and makeup. However, the experience was awful. It is a very small space and was a stressful, frantic, and cramped environment which is the last thing any bride wants on their wedding day. As I did not have a wedding party, my sister came along with me and also had her hair and makeup done. On arrival, a makeup artist began working with my sister. She was professional, sweet, and did a great job. About 30 minutes later my makeup artist arrived and the two literally got into a verbal argument in front of us when my makeup girl placed the stool I was to sit right where the other makeup artist was standing. It was awkward, unprofessional, and if it wasn't my wedding day I would have walked out. I then sat, frightened by my makeup artist, for 30 minutes. Also noteworthy: my sister's makeup artist later had to fix what mine had done to me. My sister then began getting her hair done. She asked for it to be down and curly. Her stylist decided it would be better in a side pony tail and then spent TWO HOURS trying to accomplish this, and failed. Another stylist finally had to come in and take over. She threw something together in 15 minutes because otherwise we would be late for my wedding. Overall, I would not recommend the Sea Spa Salon for wedding hair and makeup. read more

2013: In town on vacation, I thought it would be a good place to have my hair done, judging by the reviews I read... Hairdresser was nice and friendly. I came in with a picture of the hair coloring and styling I wanted to go for (nothing drastic, just a bang trim and some hair lightening for an ombre). The stylist seemed very excited and sounded very experienced... Even other stylists were saying how she is amazing and does fabulous coloring, so I was worked up to trust her. 1. After nearly 2 hours, she said (didn't ask) she was going to style my hair to see how the coloring came out. I was pleased with the coloring. She "styled" my hair straight, after talked 2 hours about how I have curly hair and would like to style it like the curly-haired model in the picture I brought... So her "styling" of my halr was not an accurate depiction of her work. 2. Before the appointment, I asked for an approximation of how much the services (trim & ombré) would cost me - they said between $80-$120. I confirmed this with my stylist when I got there, and explained to her I was on a budget so to stick with the trim and ombré only. Not only did I not get a full trim (she only trimmed the ends, she didnt trim my bangs OR my layers), but when checking out, I was told I owed $260...! I asked for what, shocked. She had charged me for full highlights ($120, ok), color gloss ($50, ok), FULL CUT (but I barely got the trim I asked for), hair drying (I was not asked, nor did she warn me it would cost extra), styling (I was not told it would cost extra, AND she didn't even style it how I wanted it). I felt scammed - not only did I pay double what was discussed, but she did not ASK if I wanted to have dry & style - I would have said no if I was told it would be an extra $40!!! And if she had told me I would be charged the full $60 for a cut, I would have MADE SURE I got my "complimentary" bang trim! 3. A couple weeks later, I am noticing many flyways and frizz. I should have asked to see the ingredients in the hair color before she used it, but based on how healthy all the stylists' hair looked, I figured they knew what products are good quality to use that won't damage. My mistake, because my hair feels more brittle and dry than ever before! Despite my horrible experience being scammed for a routine hair maintenance, I am giving 2 stars, because at least she didn't RUIN my hair... I suppose it could have been much worse - I could have been scammed AND receive a horrendous haircut... Instead, I just have a bland / outgrown layers / frizz haircut... P.s. I don't know if posting an update will delete the spa's response to my initial post, but if not, notice that the salon's professional response doesn't address charging a $60 cut for a partial trim and deflects full responsibility for the experience, referring to my review as a "complaint" and I should have called to talk about the service, but as I mentioned in my review, I did ask about the breakdown at the time of payment. ... I received a gift card to Sea Spa as an anniversary gift and decided to put it towards the Lemon Velveteen Whipped Mouse Massage. What an amazing experience from start to finish!! After booking my appointment online I had a few questions, so I emailed the spa. I received a prompt reply from Jasmine answering all of my questions and received two emails confirming my appointment. Great customer service! The salon was very open and welcoming, and the spa beautifully decorated and serene. My masseuse, Krystal, was incredibly sweet and made me feel comfortable from the second she walked in! The treatment was everything I had hoped for and then some. Overall, a wonderful experience! Thank you Sea Spa for making my first trip to Martha's Vineyard an unforgettable one! ok so i made an appointment online to have my hair cut... showed up an it wasn't in their system! I had a very special event the following day.....My sons high school graduation......The receptionist was very apologetic and scheduled me for 10 am the following day. worried about time i asked how long my haircut would take, "45 min an hour tops" ok that works...... Next day i showed up for my appointment with Temissha Lee, told her i had my sons graduation and she started at 10:03 i told her exactly how i wanted my hair and she acknowledged every request. i wanted 2-3 inches off, long layers, side part, angled into my face and a thin layer of long whispy bangs just in my eyes. i knew i was in trouble when she said ok there is your bangs, I cut them just above your eyebrows so they wont be in your eyes!!!! um even worse 2 inches above my eye brows! and my bangs went to the center of my head! not 1 layer in my hair,middle part, straight along my face not angled into my face,took at least 5 inches off and my hair is so thin i don't know how or what she did to it but completely ruined my nice thick natural blond hair! on top of it all there was no clock in sight so i finally get my phone out HOLY S#!T its 11:35!! so after an hour an a half, $80 , and the worst hair cut i have ever seen I wouldn't even stop at the store on the way home so no one would see me! read more

Showed up 15 minutes early, waited an additional 20 minutes, so waited a total of 35 minutes and was 20 min into my scheduled appointment time, only to be told they did not have time to accommodate me before I had to leave for my event at 1pm. The massage was ok. My cousin and I wanted a 1 hour hot stone massage. We were told to tell the therapists. We went in search of the other building where we were supposed to go. We weren't too good at finding our way but eventually did. Once we met the therapists, we shared we.wanted hot stone. Apparently it was too late for us to order what we wanted. They told us it would take 20 minutes to heat them up and we would not get it. They apologized. Forty minutes later our 60 minute massage was over. When we made our way to the front, unescorted again, we told the woman about our massage being cut 20 minutes short and that we could not get hot stones. She asked why, what happened. Once we told her she apologized for both and charged us the full price. They have the ability to be a great spa but it starts with great customer service and getting what you want and what you pay for. I hated not leaving a tip but I hate being ripped off and not receiving exceptional customer service more. I recommend Sea Spa, hands down, if you want professional treatment in a relaxed atmosphere. I put myself in their hands completely for a cut and a color, two techniques you should never skimp on, and I am so happy. With barely any guidance except to not go too blonde or too short, they gave me the perfect haircut and ombre hair (I have black hair, so got a glaze from root to bottom and the edges were about three amazing shades for light brown!) If you're looking for the best, Sea Spa Salon it is! Let yourself be pampered and visit them. After reading some of the posts on Yelp, I am surprised because I had the completely opposite experience at Sea Spa Salon for my wedding day. I am from Texas and booked Sea Spa Salon due to it's vicinity of the venue I was getting married at in Edgartown and because they were willing to travel to the location for a low cost. Salissa made it easy to book over the phone and go back and forth on the e-mail with the contract. She was even accommodating (by not charging us) when one of the bridal party had to back out of hair and make up at the last minute. My mother in law and I went in a few days before the wedding for a manicure and pedicure. We were both impressed by the friendliness of the 2 girls who performed the service. We were able to relax and our nails turned out great! On the day of the wedding, everything was above and beyond my expectations. Since I'm from out of town and had limited time, I didn't have the chance prior to the wedding to set up a trial for hair and make up - so I was already going to be taking a risk the day of the wedding. The make up artist and hair stylist showed up on time and set up with no issues. Stephanie (hair stylist) was amazing to work with!!! She seemed so comfortable and at ease with any hairstyle we showed her for myself and bridal party. She stopped every so often while working on each of us to show us the progress and find out if we were happy with what she was doing before she went too far. Everyone's hair looked awesome - which I think it rare to have 5 people get their hair done and all be impressed. Stephanie was calm, outgoing, and fun. We all enjoyed working with her and trusted her with our hair styles. Virginia (make up artist) was also amazing to work with. We showed her a picture of what we wanted done and she was able to deliver results that matched. She even offered suggestions when we were unsure on some make up choices. Both of the girls were aware of what time we wanted to be completely ready and they delivered. I've heard horror stories where some brides/bridal parties are late to their own wedding because they're still getting makeup or hair done --- totally not the case here. We had plenty of time after they were done. Overall, everyone looked amazing for my wedding and it could not have turned out any better. There is always a risk when booking a place that you aren't familiar with and you're from out of town, but my expectations were exceeded. Every year my girlfiends and I from college meet up in Marthas Vineyard and have a nice stay in Edgartown where my family has a home. I am writing a negative review of this salon so called spa because I was appauled by how me and my friends where treated. Let me start with my massage... The woman who did my massage was a downer, she wouldn't stop talking about her boyfriend issues and I asked her several times if I could just rest, she said oops sorry but as soon as I would open my mouth she assumed it was ok to start talking about her issues again to me. I first felt bad for this older woman with issues and kept trying to give her advise so I feel a little resposable for being personable myself. I think she crossed the line when she started talking about her sex life to me. Her name was Rebecca and she just moved to Marthas Vineyard she had told me and couldn't find a place to live. I had a manicure and pedicure by this other girl, who wouldnt stop talking about a wedding, I tried to put my head in my phone so I could enjoy the pedi but she went on and on. I am writing the review because my husband was mad I didn't get my money back but they did do the service which I would say was not that good, my polish peeled off my nails within a day and my pedi only lasted a week. It is not worth it, we left spending over $500 on services that seemed poor. My girlfriend said her experience was awful when she got her facial the woman was talking on her phone. At first she thought she was talking to her and she said "oh no, this is my bluetooth", she said the room was dirty and that the woman who had an accent was very rude and acted like she was doing her a favor, but she was paying for a service. I tried to talk to the owner before I left but receptionist looked confused and told me she was busy doing hair. I didn't want to waste the rest of my trip by trying to argue with the owner. I called the salon 2 times but they said she was too busy to speak to me. DO NOT! waste your money or time at the Sea Spa. read more

I had booked Sea Spa Salon for one stylist to come out to my wedding venue in Chilmark in October 2019. We had myself (bride) and four other people having their hair done. Each person asked for something different, and all five of us received the EXACT same style - there was literally no difference between any of the styles. I asked for a loose updo in a french twist style (appropriate for a more casual wedding on one of the Chilmark farms). What I got was a slicked back style from the front, pulled into a tight bun (not even a chignon - there was no styling at all) with a few curls - a style that looked more like I was being sent off to my middle school dance in the gym. I have refrained from reviewing up to now because I appreciate the impact that reviews have on small businesses on the island. Unfortunately, when I look back at photos, I look at myself and all I can see is the tight, formal, structured hairstyle that is glued to my head under a gallon of hairspray. Very disappointed, and could not recommend this service to anyone. Perhaps in the salon they have a better grasp on their stylists (and maybe they just sent someone without any experience at all). read more

I just visited the salon on Saturday, June 8th as my trip to MV was last minute and I didn't have time to see my manicurist prior to leaving for the Island. Everyone was very nice and they tried to engage with the customers however the manicure is probably one of the worst I've ever had. It's also way over priced; for $30 it needs to be a true spa experience which they don't offer at this salon In fact, the manicurist even forgot to do any cuticle grooming. Despite the staff being very pleasant, they spent the entire time having a discussion in front of customers about how over worked they are and needed time off. It just lacked class, experience and sophistication. If not completely necessary, for all visitors to the area, I'd hold off. It's not a treat, just a waste of time and money. read more

She and her team are amazing, and did an excellent job on everyone's hair and make-up. Sorry for the long review, but if you're looking for quick info, DON'T EVER GO HERE. Myself and 2 friends had appts at 1:15PM. After waiting for 15 minutes, one of my friends began her pedicure. After 45 minutes without me or my other friend being helped, a woman (we would later find out this woman was the owner, Selissa) finally came over to us and asked if we had gel nail polish on our fingers that needed to be removed. I did, so she quickly told THE RECEPTIONIST how to remove my gel nail polish and left the salon. The receptionist proceeded to tell me not to be "weirded out", but that she had never done this before. She didn't need to tell me that because it was very obvious. I became uncomfortable with the idea of going through with a full manicure and pedicure given the lack of professionalism and skill being displayed so I discreetly texted my two friends to tell them just that. I sat there for about 30 minutes with my nails wrapped in foil before asking where Selissa went and she told me she had gone next door to do a men's haircut. I found it extremely unprofessional that she would book an appointment for me and leave in the middle of it to service someone else, leaving a completely untrained receptionist to do my nails. At this point it was very clear that there were only 2 people working in the spa, so I don't understand why they would schedule 3 appointments simultaneously. Selissa finally came back and started removing the foil and scraping the gel polish off my hands. Her method was concerning and I actually said something to her during because she was filing my nails down too much and I was afraid she was going to hurt me. When she was "done", I noticed there was still gel on several of my fingernails, so I asked her to wrap them again. She did and then left me to go start on my other friend's pedicure. After another 30 minutes of not being tended to, I removed the foil and scraped the gel off of my own fingernails. Meanwhile, the 1st friend who started getting a pedicure was still being worked on after an hour and a half, and they hadn't started painting her nails. I was watching the woman do her toes the whole time and her lack of technique was disturbing. She honestly looked like she had never given a professional pedicure before. My other friend who was getting her toes done by Selissa seemed to enjoy the pedicure for the most part, until the end. While her legs were still sticky from the lotion that was used during the massage, Selissa "accidentally" took the towel from under her feet that was filled with dead foot skin shavings and dumped it all over her legs. In all my years, I have never seen anything like this happen at a nail salon. Even worse, she didn't even acknowledge that it happened, let alone apologize. By this point, we had been in the salon for close to 3 hours and had only gotten 2 pedicures and 1 manicure TOTAL. When we were finished, my friends paid an astronomical amount of money for a horrible experience, and I thought the spa should be aware of our dissatisfaction. After we left, I called and explained that I had just left the salon with 2 of my friends and that we were very unhappy with the experience we had. Before I could finish, she interrupted to say "I'm sorry you feel that way" with a negative attitude. I asked if she and the other woman were in fact certified nail technicians and she said yes, however I don't believe this is true. She repeated "I'm sorry you feel that way" a couple more times, and then accused me of "humiliating and degrading" her by texting my friends about her while we were all in the salon. Again, I was texting my friends for the opposite purpose: I was trying to avoid embarrassing anyone by discreetly telling them I would not be getting my nails done there. She was yelling at me that she couldn't believe anyone would ever treat her that way and that she and her staff were humiliated and before I could respond, she hung up on me. My friends and I went to dinner later that night and met an Esthetician that works at a different salon on Martha's Vineyard. We shared our experience with her, and she knew exactly what salon we were talking about. She said they have a reputation for hiring non-certified people to do nails and that she has heard numerous complaints about them. My friend that got a manicure ended up with a bleeding cuticle, and my other friend now has a rash between her toes that is incessantly itching. The most shocking part was how the owner handled the situation. When I called she had a chance to right the situation, but instead she chose to yell at me, accuse me of humiliating her, and hang up on me. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer in my life. My main concern here is that the spa will continue to allow non-certified people to do nails. This is dangerous, illegal and unethical. read more

Completely unprofessional for bridal/bridesmaid appointments. Owner showed up half hour late to bridal suite and was NOT friendly at all...not even to the bride! Was very worried to have an updo after seeing the "finished" product of the girls ahead of me...did not look finished at all. Icing on the cake, the salon tried to charge me $255 for no show appointments I originally made when I have in email from the bride that she rescheduled to have appointments at the hotel. I'm never one to leave reviews but feel like I have to. I went in to see Yvonne for a last minute gel manicure. There was no attention to detail and there is nail polish all over my cuticles. I've had many many gel manicures before and all of the nail technicians make sure the top edge of the nail polish is straight and even so it still looks good even when it starts to grow out. My nails look messy and will only look worse as the start to grow. I'm very bummed as Yvonne had gotten good reviews from others in Yelp, which is why I decided to go there. I have been in this salon several times and must say I wish I could give them a good review but I just can't. The girls at the front desk is sweet. I want in with a bunch of my friends for a Birthday and they stuck us in a conference room of the hotel, not in the nail section where they had the pedicure chairs. We sat in hard chairs and our feet where put in cold buckets of water. The guy looked nervous doing my feet and then just in the middle someone else came over and started doing my pedicure with no reason as to why. What is even more odd is the woman next to me told me and my friend she is a massage therapist and just stated doing nails and asked me if she was doing an ok job. I asked her why was she doing nails if she isn't trained she said to make the money with her thick accent. She seemed dirty to me but was happy and sweet, very friendly. One of our friends had a bikini wax and it was awful, she said it was very painful slow and she bruised. My friend Heather was very disappointed and felt ripped off when she got a bill for $600 and we asked can we get some sort of discount because we had no idea that your space couldn't accommodate all of us and we would have preferred the use of the nail room not hotel room. Owner was not nice to me at all and i still had to pay. I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone, they uncharge for services not rendered and are not qualified workers. read more

I decided to try Sea Spa Salon on the advice of my co-worker, and it was all I had hoped. My Stylist Marcella was AMAZING!!! She took her time to go through with me what would be best for my hair and color. (I have natural long (very long) dirty blonde straight hair). I was nervous and apprehensive, but her work and suggestions, were appreciated, and well, spot on. My hair looks better than it ever has at any appointment in my last 10 years, and I would Highly recommend her. I am hence forth a loyal customer of Sea Spa Salon. It was hard to find a highly rated pedicure on Martha's Vineyard on Yelp (or Google). I decided to try Sea Spa, and I am so happy that I did! Sarah gave me a mani/pedi, and she was great. My feet feel and look great (they have a foot file for callouses), and she was so meticulous with the polish. Its worth noting that their polish is vegan (something new for me) and works just as well as Essie and Opi. I will absolutely return to sea spa during my next island visit. read more

The manicurist did a lot of sighing and eye rolling. At one point, she told me it was very hard for her to paint my nails if I continued in the position I was holding my hands. It was hurting her back! Normally, a mani/pedi takes about an hour but I was at Sea Spa for almost 2. She was sawing at my nails. God knows what they will look when the shellac comes off. She also didn't seem that interested. I will have to have my shellac replaced by someone else SOMEWHERE else within a few days. My hair the day of the wedding was even better than I could have imagined. I got clip in extensions because my hairdo was so intricate that I needed a little extra. I got a lot of compliment's on my wedding day.....but my hair received the most. DO NOT GO HERE FOR HAIR COLOR! If I could give this no stars I would. I had never had my hair professionally colored so I was nervous about making the appointment esp bc the reviews are not that great. I asked for my natural hair color which is dark blond which is not hard to do. As the hairdresser was doing the coloring I noticed that it looked to blond. I questioned her but she assured me it would look good. However, when it dried I was platinum blond! SO NOT what I wanted or asked for. So then she decided to low light my hair to take away some of the blond but she basically used a black low light color???!! When all was done my hair was black/gray with a green tint and it looked terrible. I was so embarrassed and upset. And they still charged me! I left in salon in tears. I have now been back to a different hair dresser twice to fix the color and I still have one more appointment left that will hopefully be the last. I have now spent $600 in the last month and half on my hair and I still have another appointment to go. All because Sea Spa destroyed my hair color. When I called Sea Spa to get my money back for their botched job the owner told me no because they "bent over backwards" for me already????!!! What the heck! I would give this "spa salon" 0 stars if I could! You could hardly call this place a spa/salon. It was more like 2 closets down the hall from each other. The nail salon was in 1 room and the hair salon was in another room down the hall in a public building. We had 6 appointments for a bridal party the day before the wedding for mani/pedis. When we arrived, we were completely ignored for close to 1 hr. Then finally the bride was taken for her mani. While she was getting her mani, 1 of the other employees let go of a water facet and it sprayed everywhere, COMPLETELY SATURATING the bride, hair and clothes. Later when they were blow drying her hair, they jerked around her head so much she ended up with a sore neck. The bride was supposed to have a shampoo and blow out also but because they were running so behind, they only had time to do the blow out to dry her saturated hair that they caused. Only 3 of us total (including the bride) ended up getting our nails done because they were so late. When it was finally my turn, I told them to just paint my fingers and toes because I was already late for the rehearsal. It was the WORST mani/pedi of my life, time and quality wise. Salissa and company are great! I booked an appointment for my wife ,who is from France and very hard to match her sense of style, a month in advance for a trail run for hair and make up and also for hair and makeup on the day of our wedding. Salissa did her hair personally and my wife was very pleased that she could give her what she expressed she wanted through pictures and emails weeks in advance. They even offered us a room if my wife wanted to put her dress on there after her make up and hair was done. Jen who was at the front desk was awesome and saved the day by calling a wonderful florist Donaroma's on the island insuring me that they could make us a bouquet when the florist I hired months in advanced (Flowers by Val in Tyngsboro ma) stiffed me on my wedding day and left us without any flowers, a arbor, isle decorations and a bouquet for my wife, 2 hours before or wedding. They were able to give my wife what she wanted which was an amazing hair style and beautiful makeup and also helped us find reliable flower shop when flowers by val dropped the ball. Sea spa Yay! I am giving one star for the sweet up beat employees, but everything else was not good. I spent almost $100 for a mani pedi with the tip I gave, which I wouldn't have if I noticed the flaws before hand. My toe nails are not even painted all the way. Some are only painted half way, some are streaky, and there was hot pink polish on my skin. I paid $55 and didn't even get them painted properly. I could have done it better at home for free. As for my manicure, it's a beautiful color, but it is somewhat streaky in some spots. The salon should have more experienced employees who can do nails better. I recommend going some where else on the island or holding off until you get home. read more
