I stay here every year only because of the location. They are not service oriented at all. The rooms are decorated from the 80's and smell musty. They advertise "color tv" and recently added ROKU to the rooms but the internet is so bad that you're lucky to actually be able to watch tv. We tried to watch Netflix on our computer one night because we couldn't get service on the tv, but we couldn't even get that to work. I've never asked them for any reimbursement over the years I've stayed here because I recognize it's a basic motel. However, this year I asked for some form of reimbursement since I had no access to tv or movies and wanted to relax with my kids each night to watch a movie, but they didn't even have the courtesy to acknowledge me. I find it so rude that I decided to finally write a review. If you stay here, don't expect anything but the bare basics. And don't expect the front desk to go above and beyond. It's a place near the beach and that's its biggest allure. I really need to find a new place. read more

As I understood the cancellation policy,I was loading up my car for a weekend with my kids and had a tragic turn of events occur.I called down to cancel my reservation for the weekend,In tears..The front desk girl was lovely and directed me to email the owner Lyn. He emailed me back with zero compassion and wanted to know nothing.I also asked for even a partial refund of my 400.00 deposit and he ignored my request.Clearly a money hungry "business man".I am in the service industry and understand that sometimes life gets in the way and things happen beyond ur control and out of nowhere..I get there are rules.So clearly this greedy man was that hard up for my money.Sorry but I find it to be bad business... read more

I stayed here last week with two friends of mine. It was a perfectly average motel. The floors were covered in sand, but nothing crazy for the price. The next morning however, I woke up covered in bed bug bites. I have dealt with them before and am allergic, so I knew exactly what they were. I had rows of bites, typical of the bb pattern. You can see how badly they swelled in the photos below. When I told the man at the front desk, he was completely unsurprised, just told me he'd have his handyman check it out and added "sorry about that". Given that I'm allergic, I could not stay at the motel and risk bringing them home with me. The motel refused to refund me for the stay or offer any credit subsequently on the grounds that I agreed to their non-refundable terms and conditions. We had stayed here 3 nights. The only good thing I'd say of this motel was its accessibility to the beach. I wouldn't go back here. It was overpriced for sure. Left itchy, sketchy cleaning company and they "threw away" hundreds of dollars of my children's clothing Just returned from the Sea Spray after spending over $1100 to stay there and am extremely disappointed. Literally the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE. The manager Lynn is a joke. Within a few hours of leaving I realized I accidentally left my children's clothing in the dresser in the room and called the hotel to see if I could come back and pick it up only to be told THEY THREW THEM ALL AWAY? They threw away hundreds of dollars of my children's clothing without even giving me the opportunity to come and get them? Multiple sweatshirts, tank tops, bathing suits, pajamas, shorts and they took it upon themselves to throw them all in the garbage? Who does that to paying customers. THEY SAID COVID HOWEVER THEY DIDN'T EVEN CLEAN ANYTHING THERE, NO SANITIZER IN COMMON AREAS, GRILLS, POOLS, NOT ONE MASK AND THEIR ONE POLICY IS TO THROW AWAY PEOPLE'S PERSONAL PROPERTY? SUCH A CROCK. Also - my husband and I witnessed the cleaning supervisor call over another older, male employee to watch one of the other cleaning ladies in a room. Said " YOU HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON HER WHILE SHE IS IN THERE" and the MAN STOOD IN THE DOORWAY AND WATCHED THE GIRL CLEAN? Who the heck do they have going in the rooms? And my stuff was "thrown away" - yeah right. The cleaning staff was also smoking cigarettes right out side of the rooms. They also don't change your sheets unless you are there for longer then 7 days. I was SO INCREDIBLY ITCHY that it kept me up at night. They also just keep reusing the same garbage bags in the rooms as I saw them just dumping the cans out and putting them back into the rooms. What a waste. I booked the one handicapped room this motel had for my mom who is confined to a wheelchair. Upon arrival, I was shocked to find a non-compliant ADA shower. What I saw was a tub with bars. I immediately went to the office and spoke to the owner who basically said the shower was ADA compliant. As I've been to many handicapped facilities, this shower was not even close to being compliant. When I stated that my mom would not have a shower for 3 days, this owner had nothing to say or offer. I assure you this is not the end of a very disappointing stay at this motel. read more

We stayed for one night, we had such a wonderful time. The pool is very nice and spacious and clean, the beach is across the street, easy walk. There are 4 gas barbecues you could use to cook food and about 6 picnic tables. Very very nice. They are COVID conscious. Blankets and pillows in plastic bags and they wash after each guest, the cleaning staff is so good and so accommodating. Our room was very clean, they also provided beach badges which is a savings. I hate to write negative but the bed so uncomfortable, the air conditioner so loud and the TV is not a flat screen. We have stayed here many times for family vacations, years ago. I know it's costly to replace and upgrade, I'd like to come back to Sea Spray either before summer is over and hopefully next year. I'll just ask about the bed and air conditioner and for a different room. TV doesn't really matter to me, but did to my husband. read more

Myself, my husband and my toddler stayed here for what was supposed to be Thurs-Sun this past week. We ended up leaving Saturday morning in what must have been the worst stay I've had in a motel. Four college aged kids were above us who literally were ***bowling*** in their room, drinking heavily and being so insanely rude. We tried nicely to ask them to calm down which only made matters worse, they actually. Ceiling isn't exactly the strongest, so the sounds were made even worse, we literally did not shut our eyes until five am and with a toddler, were back up at 7am. At one point our neighbor found them **lurking** outside our door (which explains the noises we heard at our own door of what seemed to be something being thrown at it). My daughter (who's only 2) was terrified all night, waking up crying asking what the sounds were. If we didn't live so far away, we'd have checked out in the middle of the night. They did not offer another room as they were booked, which is understandable and I get that, we received no credit and that's no surprise, but also received no "sorry your stay was a nightmare" nothing. It was really a shame that two hardworking adults took their time off of their schedule (after a stressful COVID year no less, who wanted just wanted some peace and quiet) got ran out of their room. I also think we were close by a speaker, so music is playing pretty loud until after 9pm, so if you have kids or a baby, bring a noise machine. There was also no curtain in the small room, so if your kids are light sensitive at night then you'll want to bring something you can hang up yourself or probably just stay somewhere else. It's a shame because had we been in another room, we would've been fine with all this other stuff, albeit it was frustrating, they weren't dealbreakers until we were placed under the biggest little privelaged jerk college kids I've ever met. Efficiency included pots, pans and dinnerware which was nice. But I can't say I recommend this place if it's clientele is allowed to terrorize a family like this. My husband called to try and book a room for our family for a few days. It was fairly last-minute (about 3 weeks ahead of time) and in the summer, so our choices of motels were limited and our schedule wasn't flexible due to my husband's job. He called and very nicely said that he wanted to know if there was availability for a room from a Monday through a Thursday. The owner replied that he didn't have those exact dates but could give us a room for that weekend and two of our suggested days. My husband (again, very nicely) told him that we couldn't go on the weekend because of work. The owner replied, "that's not the weekend, Monday and Tuesday are not the weekend". My husband was perplexed and felt odd even having to explain that "can't on the weekend" means can't be there on the weekend at all, no matter what other days were included! My husband nicely said (again, I was listening!) that we couldn't go on the weekend days and then the owner unleashed a tirade on my husband, telling him that he needs to be flexible, that he is *lucky* to even get a chance at a room so late in the game, that he has 50 people calling him every hour and he should just take the room etc, etc, etc. It was truly odd and completely baffling. Sooo, customer service does not seem like a strong point here. Needless to say, we skipped his "deal" and got a room at another (wonderful, polite, clean, happy) motel and had a great Monday through Thursday! read more

Awful! As soon as we entered our room at the sea spray, the smell hit us. It smelled like something died in the room. I was staying here with my 2 toddlers, my husband and parents. I don't understand how anyone could have given this place a good review. The whole room smelled of mildew even after I tried to spray air-fresheners and perfume. Disgusting! The staff is not friendly, wifi doesn't work half the time even though I paid for it. And the icing on the cake, I was told when we got here that the "don't allow" air beds for kids. What? The owner is truly unprofessional and uncaring; no regard for returning guests whatsoever. The motel is situated in a nice area which is great, however due to the monopoly, they don't treat guests well. The cleaning service is lax so check you bed first-there is almost always sand in the bad because they don't change bedding between guests. We bring our own sheets and towels because of this. Be careful because the owner likes checks, not credit cards for deposits and make sure that you have a reservation, repeatedly, because they give rooms away--so you can plan, pack your family up and arriving knowing you paid months in advance and they won't have the reservation or will say it was cancelled because of this or that. It's terrible, but that is how the owner has trained the staff and they have done this to us as well as to many with whom we have spoken. There are much better places on the Island including the Spray Beach Motel, The Sea Shell and The Engleside Inn. It's terrible how the management runs this place; if someone else takes over it has potential because of location--the entire island is the perfect location but this place is the worst. After deciding to stay another night, we booked a last minute room here after spending two nights at another motel for the weekend. We stayed in a room with two queen beds and it was comfortable and updated. The staff were courteous, friendly, and accommodating to our needs. They even let us use the beach passes and pool after we checked out. The motel is about a half hour walk or 6 minute drive from Fantasy Island and it was nice to be out of the bustling town. There is plenty of parking and beautiful sunsets down the road on the bayside. We will definitely stay here again! read more

Went back for our 5th year, and it was great! We were lucky to have nice weather and the winds with us (i.e. no flies! If the wind is coming from the west.. watch out! You can't stand the beach due to the biting flies!). This hotel is near the southern tip of the island.. it's on the border of Holgate, and is in a very quiet area. We love it for that! The management was on top of things this year. They're replacing the beds and bringing in new mattresses. I complained to the manager that my bed was SO uncomfortable and he changed it out immediately to a new mattress which was great! I think by next year they'll all be replaced! (ask for a room with new beds!). It's a great spot for a family. Its kinda like a flashback to the 70s! Very simple, and dated, but clean. I bring a lot of things to help keep us comfortable and organized, like extra hangers, over the door hooks to dry towels, laundry soap and a laundry drying carousel to hang dry hand washed items. There's no laundry close by! I also pack extra pillows and a sheet to cover the upholstered chair in the room (I just don't like that 100s of people have sat on it in wet bathing suits). I also bring blankets to cover the beds cuz we end up sitting on the beds a lot of the time. There's only one upholstered chair and 3 dining chairs in our room. (no couch) It's It's right across from the beach. They have a big salt water heated pool, ping pong tables, foos ball table and basketball hoop. The kids have a ball! And nice new webber grills to cook on! The place is spotless. They have a great cleaning crew, too and it's nice to have your room swept and beds made. However you do have to request for them to change your sheets if you're there for a longer stay. You'll enjoy yourself here! No wi-fi! Except if you sit by the pool or in front of the office. Some of the rooms are damp and musty... I guess it's hard to avoid at the beach. We get a small suite with a kitchenette so we can make some of our meals there and there's an extra bedroom. (tiny.. literally a room for a bed!) but it provides a little privacy. We enjoy all that LBI has.. treasure island, renting bikes, a trip to Barnagat light house, sunset cruises (we did the Miss Barnagat lighthouse cruise this year. It was nice, no frills. You can either BYOB or they have a limited bar on the boat with some chips as snacks. It goes right by the lighthouse. Our trip was a little short due to rainy weather. Last year, we liked the one in Beach Haven better (Black Pearl?) . goes out on the Bay and you get a tour of southern LBI and there's music, bar and fun! It's the Pirate cruise by day and sunset cruise at night! ) Clams! Scallops! Ice Cream! Miniature Golf (the one at treasure island is the best with waterfalls and a cave! Lots of fun $12. each). Waking up for Sunset and walking out to the beach in our PJs to watch the sun come up! Watching the Sunset! Our favorite spot is in Beach Haven at Polly's Dock and Clam House (a hidden treasure!). you can BYOB, too! And gathering our friends who all meet up at the Sea Spray for a relaxed week at the beach. read more

I would not recommend this hotel unless you are certain you can stay. We were unable to make it to our reservation (I did not expect full refund), but asked kindly for a "credit" or if we can change the days. They were completely unhelpful and rude. Horrible business standpoint. I WOULD have went back again and again if they would have been flexible, but I will NEVER go back to that motel again. Great way to keep a happy customer. Look, you're not staying in a Marriot. Once you set your expectations properly, it's a great place. It has the best location. Super convenient beach access. Large warm pool that you can't get when you rent a house. Admittedly, it's not the friendliest place, but it's well maintained and meets all of your needs for an LBI vacation. read more

Great place. Hands down the cleanest motel i have ever seen. Don't know if the owner cracks the whip or whatever but, the staff is constantly cleaning- all day everyday. American owned and operated and they take great pride in their property. Beach is across the street and the pool is spotless. Games for the kids and bbq grills for the guests to use ( again, spotless) Rooms are in good shape. Very family friendly place. If you are looking for a place to get drunk, be loud all night= keep looking. Bring the wife and kids for a quiet vacation. Far enough off the beaten path but close enough to get to where the action is. As good as it gets - in Jersey at least! read more

The place we stayed in was nice. Most of the tenants where great with 2 huge exceptions. There was a crazy lady that lived in one of the units that over looked the pool. She found it appropriate to not only interrupt almost every interaction our family had by the pool to make us aware of pool policies but she also found it appropriate to correct our children for doing things such as play with a water gun inside of the pool. Swimming laps around the pool and laughing to loud. My 4 year old son fell and got brush burn (his first) and was screaming I ran over and picked him up, on my way back to the room while he was screaming historically she opens her r door and starts screaming at me to put the umbrella from the table I was sitting at down, that was the final straw I kinda lost it on her. The second issue was there was a not so inconspicuous drug dealer that lives in the Motel. His customers seemed to leave everyone alone but that left my family on edge. To be honest out of the 2 the reason I will not be returning is the crazy pool lady. read more

Recently the Sea Spray sent me a notice to re-rent for the upcoming year 2019. This was my letter to them: I'm not sure if you recall but we were in the room (301) last year that was robbed by your brand new cleaning company on their second room, on their first day of cleaning your hotel. Needless to say we were extremely upset by this. But probably more upsetting is the fact that no one from your hotel ever came to us during the next six days we were there. I expected an apology, or at the very least an explanation of the situation. I requested to speak with the owner at check out on Saturday, and was told he was not there. Not surprising. I realize that things change and you may have needed to hire a new cleaning company. The group you hired ( a landscape maintenance company from Maryland) was not qualified to do this job. Their manager told me it was their first hotel they were working in. Several members of our groups room's were never cleaned during their stay. We cleaned our own room from Monday on. My family's (5 families totaling over 40 people) have been vacationing at the Sea Spray since the 1980's and are all so disappointed in your approach, or lack of approach to this situation. We will never stay in this hotel again. Asked for a room on the first floor and ended up on the second. No help with luggage so my 70 year old husband and I had to carry everything upstairs. Advertisement stated there is wifi and of course there is not. You have to pay $17 a week for it. Rooms felt damp, vents very dirty, old fashioned air conditioners need new filters, small bathroom, old tube televisions, small refrigerators. Oh and the only ice machine on the property was broken. Office staff not helpful. My son in law swam in the pool and his eyes were burning so much after his swim that he couldn't see to drive. That tells me the ph or some chemical is off. Our 2 year old granddaughter could put her head through the slats of the railings on the upper level which is not only dangerous but can't be to code. Spend a few more dollars and stay in a nicer place. read more

If you can look past the awkward layout of the crammed rooms and the unfriendly staff members you will enjoy your stay. Directly across the street from the beach with a large private pool you can't beat it for the price. It is definitely a little removed from everything, being only a few short miles from the end of the island but it is quiet at night and no one bothers you. They give beach badges and welcome you to stay and swim and use the badges even after you check out at the end of your stay. Note: even though it is advertised on visitnj.com they do not do ANY discounts and are adamant about it. The wireless is okay, but now you need a coupon code to get on for free. Also, keep in mind they are still using an antiquated system of mailing a check prior to confirming your reservation OR charging you a $9 fee over the phone to process your credit card. They did this to me this week when I would say 1/4 of the rooms were full. Very silly practice, but again, worth it for the cleanliness of Jersey Shore hotel. read more

The motel was ok. The beds were terrible, their cleaning service is HORRIBLE. I loved that they are so close to the beach & they had picnic tables and bar-b-que's. We arrived later in the day & didn't make it to the beach the 1st night. When we all (myself, husband & 2 kids) climbed into bed (after the office had closed) we noticed sand in the sheets. Obviously they had not been changed from the previous people who used the room. In the am, I put a small mark on each sheet, so I could see if they actually changed them. I went to the office, explained the problem & asked that it be taken care of. I was told "I am texting the cleaning staff now." When we arrived back to the room that night, the sheets had not been changed. In the am, I noted what the bathroom looked like. My daughter & I have dark hair & tend to get hair around a bathroom when we are getting dressed. I also sprinkled a little powder in the sink & bathtub to have a marker. When we came back to the room the bathroom had a light wipe down but there was still hair & powder in places that should have been addressed (on toilet , behind seat), in tub etc. Sheets still had not been changed, though the towels were fresh). I went to the office & asked their cleaning policy & was told that they only change sheets between guests. I explained about the bathroom & woman who's in charge of the cleaning service (who walked into the office behind me) said "I'll have them back up". She came up with her entire staff looked at the bathroom and said "I don't know what you want me to to?" I said "clean the bathroom". She responded "I supervised the cleaning of this bathroom myself, I don't see the problem", I said "it's not clean". She responded with "it's fine". Since I was over discussing this, I said "that's fine, your going to be responsible for the review I leave for the hotel on YELP" as I shut the door. We could hear her say "that bathroom is fine, she's just a bitch" through the window. So if you stay here, bring your own sheets & pray they actually clean the room before you get here. I also want to note, I know they said they don't change the sheets every day, just between guests. Look at the cleaning cart, there are no sheets on the cart at all & I never noticed them taking sheets out of any room. ****I wanted to edit for accuracy. I truly enjoyed my stay at the Sea Spray Motel from July 31-August 2. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed to take a lot of pride in their work and the motel itself. The location was phenomenal - one minute to the beach, a cute beach rentals/ice cream shop, and close enough to the main commercial area to walk, but with enough distance to allow significant peace and quiet. The motel was exceptionally clean. Staff members were constantly maintaining the immaculate grounds and rooms. The room itself was very simple - luxury accommodations these are not - but it was amazingly clean and very functional. The motel atmosphere was family-friendly, but very serene at night. Families with small children will appreciate the pool, foozball table, and ping pong table. Four very clean grills were available for guests to use as well. If you're looking for an affordable, family-friendly, seconds-from-the-beach motel, the Sea Spray is a perfect choice. read more

I have been going to the Sea Spray Motel for years, due to the location and pool, but I must say, this was my last year due to the attitude of management. They require a 3 night stay costing $772 for two queen beds in a room. The room we had, 302, smelled of mold and must. We were told there were no other rooms except for efficiencies, a more expensive room that they would not move us to for the sake of our comfort. They sprayed with chemicals that hours later the room smelled of mold and chemicals. We slept with the front window and bathroom window open. The bathroom window was covered in rusty moldy shades, gross to touch. And while I'm on cleanliness, we had to wear shoes in the room as our feet turned black from the floor. We figured the mold must be coming from the ancient air conditioning unit and they cleaned it out the next day. The smell was a little better, but still moldy. We slept again with the windows open which helped. However, the room had become so damp that our clothes, papers, well, everything felt damp. It was so uncomfortable to stay in that room that we left at sunrise the final morning. When we checked out the owner said he hopes we come back. Really? He said we should try and get a room upstairs because they are not as damp. Well maybe we would have returned if we were provided with another room, our money back, or some incentive. But to have no guarantee of a better experience....well, no thanks. There are better places to stay for that amount of cash. read more

I have stayed at the Sea Spray every summer for the past 5 years. Once again I had an excellent experience staying there this summer. The facilities are lovely, the inside and outside are immaculate (and constantly being cleaned), and the help is excellent; they are very customer service oriented and flexible - in particular, Diane, who worked closely with me on some scheduling challenges I had this year. I highly recommend the Sea Spray as a great place to stay in LBI. read more

Stayed 1 night and found out immediately why there are NO refunds and availability in mid season. Staff was completely rude and indifferent to any of our complaints and needs- smell inside the room was awful and overwhelming- Wi-Fi was available but you need to fill out two hours of online paperwork to access the system- the pool area was over run with less than desirable guests who seemed to have the run of the hotel at the expense of the other guests( was told that the rules were strictly enforced only to find that the regulars had come out at 7 am and put towels down on all of the good tables and chairs at the pool area) - asked for a kitchenette and did not get one-- our other guests found hair all over their bed on top of the smell- the room was in NO WAY worth the $300 dollars a night so if you are thinking of staying here - look elsewhere you will thank me. read more

Not sure where the bad reviews came from and not even sure who the owner is as every person at this property that my family interacted with was pleasant and more than willing to be as helpful as possible during our 7 night stay. We stayed in an efficiency. I am confused by the comments on this property being dirty. I consider myself a pretty picky person having traveled all over the world and to the best resorts. The gentleman who seems to be their groundskeeper was out morning, noon and night, cleaning the grills early am, meticulously maintaining every inch of the property throughout the day. We were so impressed with how diligent he was, we tipped him at the end of our stay. Our room was spotless and we were even asked if they could take our shower curtain down to iron it (it wasn't even wrinkled). Okay, it is not in the middle of the action and there's not a Tiki Bar like at the Seashell, but for the price, it was perfect. The pool was clean, there is ample parking and you are literally across the street from the beach. If I had anything negative to say, I would say the internet connection is really slow. We had a fantastic experience at this property and I would stay there again in a minute. read more
