I just had a couple of nights to get away to the beach and I thought I'd bring my daughter since her birthday is next weekend but I'm working. As always it was a pleasant experience the staff was great and accommodating helping us with anything we needed .unfortunately we were just a few days shy of being able to get that free continental breakfast that's offered in season starting in May. There were lovely picnic tables outside and gas grills available to us ,but we didn't have a chance to use them this time . We were just steps away from the gorgeous Atlantic ocean and the wildlife preserve at the end of the island. There is wifi available and a sandbox for the little ones. There is a gazebo in the courtyard for dining al fresco or just to sit and enjoy tge salty air and sounds of the shore. read more

Nice sized room with a full sized refrigerator and a microwave. Definitely no frills but for the price it works! I definitely would recommend the owner take advantage of the white sales this winter and purchase some new towels, they were in pretty bad shape! Never again, awful experience. Before booking here.. read all of the reviews. Rooms were tiny, worn out, and uncomfortable. There were candy wrappers under the bed and what appeared to be mold on the grout in the shower. The large refrigerator sounds great to help offset going out for meals... however there are no plates, utensils, pots or pans to cook with. No table or chairs to eat your meal on... except for the outside tables where we were eaten by flies the moment we stepped out of our car. There is no way we could eat a meal there. We were so looking forward to this getaway, but literally left within an hour of checking in. Do yourself a favor, please read the reviews. Lorry's Island End Motel is a great getaway on the southern end of Long Beach Island near the wildlife preserve and within walking distance to both the ocean and the bay. The big plusnis that there are no amenity fees like most of the other motels on the island. They provide a free continental breakfast every day, have free wifi and free beach badges. Also available during your stay are the use of free local bicycles boogie boards. Every room has air conditioning, a full size refrigerator with top freezer, a microwave and a coffeemaker with free coffee provided. There is a courtyard with a barbecue area with 3 gas grills and grilling tools for your use. The owner Bill is very helpful in planning out your stay. Really love this place! read more

My family has been coming to LBI for over 15 years and we have ALWAYS had an amazing time. We have stayed everywhere on the island from the Sea Spray (south end of the island) to the North Shore Inn (north end of the island) and many places in between. We decided to take one last vacation before summers end right before Labor Day weekend. Upon calling around various motels everyone of them was booked with the exception of "Lorrys Island End Motel". The issue with this motel is not the location, the rooms are subpar, the showers are the size of a phone booth, and the flies are a bit of a problem but all these things can be overlooked by a reasonable tenant. The issue (as you will see if you look at other reviews) is the owner Bill. He is invasive, doesn't understand PERSONAL SPACE, and apparently has contractors come in at any time they want. I checked in with my family of 4 at around 3:30, after a long great day on the beach, we were relaxing before going to dinner. At around 4:30 we had a knock at our door. It was the owner Bill and a contractor. He told me he had to get into our room "to switch out the air vents". Once again being a reasonable person but also thinking it was a strange request I agreed to let him in to switch the vents. My family exited the room and I stayed to watch what they did. They did not switch out any vents, instead he called me back into the room and told me he superglued a piece of one of the vents and very rudely told me not to touch the vent. I could go on about the strange and invasive behavior but I am already long winded in this review. We were made to feel so uncomfortable that we decided to LEAVE our vacation that we PAID for without even staying one night. If you have a family and value privacy and personal space stay far away from this poorly ran motel. read more

As the 2023 season is upon us at the Jersey Shore here's my unbiased opinion one of a few places we've stayed. Prior to booing the room pictures looked decent the plus was courtyard and grills. We ended up renting 2 rooms both on 2nd floor. Things went down hill from there. Start with NO A/C there's vents but controlled by office room 13, it was august temps were in 90's. We had rooms 9 size of walk-in closet no ventilation at all. Room 11 2 beds. Each room the showers were size of phone booth. There's a curfew in court yard. 11:45 we were sitting making no noise having drinks. The owner Bill came over said someone complained. We had to go to our rooms with no AC. The towels were horrible being here for ling wknd we ended up going to kohls to get linens . While in courtyard sat the management team all sat by gazebo puffing away what a sight it was. The four of us wondered where the top 3 came from!!!! On vacation I'm not worried about religion or how many ppl are booking rooms that went elsewhere before. I'm not sure where those ppl came from. I called last week to get some rates on a room for one night. The owner Bill answered and immediately introduced himself. He was so kind I booked the room with him. He told me to call him the day of my trip to see about early check in. I called and he was able to have a room ready. Upon check in I was greeted by Ed and Dakota. Very nice kids. When I told them my name they said Bill told them to check me in early and even upgraded my room. The motel is located at the end of the island, one block from the beach. There's a deli on the corner that rents beach chairs. The motel itself is great. They have a courtyard with picnic tables, grills, a gazebo and a kids section as well. Last summer our family went to LBI NJ and we stayed at Lorry's :) What a wonderful place....the staff was awesome & the place was nice & clean! They had a nice bbq area outside which saved us lots of money! There was also a sandbox for the kids to play in & they loved it. Read their website carefully and know what you're getting and not getting. They're very honest about it. It's a funky little place that's close to the beach and in a quiet part of LBI. The rooms are old, but clean. Between full size refrigerator in each room and a very nice setup with new grills and picnic tables, you can save money on eating out. We were there for four nights and had just two meals out (note: Clam Bar!). While we brought our own breakfast food, they do put out fresh bagels, coffee and juice out each morning which our teenage boys enjoyed. It's a quiet, relaxing place. No view to speak of, but that didn't matter to us. We just wanted a relaxing vacation that was convenient to the beach. Enjoy! read more

I just called to book our vacation for the upcoming summer, and this will be our third time staying at Lorry's. The owner answered immediately and was so helpful and friendly. We are so excited to stay again! Lorry's is a very affordable motel - it is basic and clean and has everything you need. We are a family of 5, so we always book one of the suites - this works well for our needs. My favorite thing about Lorry's has always been the outdoor courtyard. It is immaculate - the pictures on the website don't even do it justice. There is a giant gazebo where we love to gather to eat lunch - a great spot because you can eat lunch outside but you're out of the sun. The plants and flowers are just beautiful, and it has a great play area for young kids. My kids were endlessly entertained playing in the sand and riding some of the little bikes and trikes around. This is the perfect place - for a particular type of customer. Let me explain....we will start with the positives. The proximity to the beach is great - a block or so away. The courtyard is even more pretty in person than it is in the pictures. The tables and chairs are in good condition, as are the grills and grill tools. The rooms are nice, the full fridges are a bonus. It's nice that they have bikes and boogie boards to borrow. The women who are in charge of checkin and maintenance are diligent, professional and kind. The place is very clean overall. So what's the rub? If you are a quiet person, going away as a couple, or just a family this is a good place. If you are going away with a group be warned it might not be a fit. Forewarned is forearmed, if you plan on cooking there are no pots to use on the grill and zero kitchenware in the suites. This means you need to bring everything besides grill tools (think serving bowls, cutting boards, knives etc) in additional to disposable plates, cutlery and paper goods. There are no sponges or dish soap in the rooms - an amenity found in other suites. We rented 6 out of the 12 rooms for an annual getaway with friends. We were candid with the owner that we are group of families who have been friends since our early 20s when booking. We were explicit in stating that we would definitely be using the courtyard, as we share meals, and we play music. We were assured - and we spoke several times with the owner starting in February for an August booking - that all of this was totally fine. But it wasn't fine. We were more or less babysat by the owner who started patrolling the property every time we were outside. He mentioned that there was a curfew - understandable in a small place - but what he didn't mention is that he will actually bang on your door after 11:30 and tell you to be quiet (for the record there was 3 of us in a room, and we were chatting, not laughing, no music, nothing unreasonable). We had a large pair of portable speakers during meals and meal prep but apparently that was even an issue after 9. In the owner's defense he did let us use the courtyard until 12 on Saturday (we also fed him so perhaps he gave us a pass). He also made a special short term accommodation for one of our guests which was the difference between them attending the weekend or not. As a small business owner I understand he has an obligation to meet the needs of all guests - a challenge - and noise is probably a huge complaint in any lodging facility. Overall we had a nice time, but it was an expensive venture when you add up the fees all 6 rooms paid. We would have opted for a house had we known that we would feel so unwelcome. read more

FYI - If you're reading reviews searching to suit the needs of a group (kids & adults or just adults), read on. If you're a single family, single person or a couple, this may not apply to you - there may be no need to read on.  We are a group of 20; 10 kids under 8yo and 10 adults mid 30's to early 40's. This year we chose LBI; booked in Jan/Feb and as usual looked forward to our annual bonding time....we arent headed out bar hopping...after the kids are all put to sleep, we enjoy chatting, joking, laughing together. We had 5 rooms, 1 being a 2 bedroom. Writing this review - we are a family of 3. The positives: #1 The Lorry's staff is just AMAZING - courteous, sweet, helpful!! Alyssa met the needs of every.single.guest...big or small. My daughter just loved Alyssa, and Alyssa was very kind - one afternoon she offered paints & paper so we can gather the kids to paint seashells. Just really awesome. #2 Lorry's is CLEAN, the staff busts their butts to keep it that way. The courtyard, gazebo, rooms, the entire property is clean.  #3 BBQ's & plenty of space to gather. #4 The location is great. It's a short walk to the beach, a deli and there is an island shuttle that can take you wherever you want to go for free (see negative below about shuttle) #5 The fly spray - @ the beach & sometimes around there - the flies BITE BAD, so bad. When you get to Lorrys ask to have the fly spray - $5 - apply it all day like you would sunblock. It works. The negatives: #1 The 'curfew' here is 1130PM, and it is enforced - no hanging in the courtyard (ok, fine) or outside your rooms, at all.  Just before 1130PM, Bill the owner comes through and will tell you its time to wrap up. 1st night it was very strict, a bit confrontational - 2nd night a little more understanding & he spoke with us about the curfew, informing he has the latest on the island (confirmed, Sea Spray Motel is 10pm) and we appreciated that...our final night he was nice, asked to wrap it up, we did linger and he continually returned to tell us to go to our rooms. When it was just 3 of us hanging out in front of a room speaking low he did leave us be finally. ** The fact that the courtyard is closed is acceptable but I cannot sit outside my room? Not acceptable, and this did not sit well at all with the majority of us, and other guests too (another 3 rooms, ranging in various ages, said same as us). Bill was unable to locate or show to us where on his site it "clearly says this" so I recommend the website be updated and the VERY FIRST thing that it should say is "1130PM curfew strictly enforced for the entire property". The noise ordinance for the area is 10PM fyi. *** Better off having kids in one room if youre able to, and adults hang in another, but if youre too loud Bill may stop you (per another review) so keep it down. #2 Basic items - toilet paper, towels, should be stocked in the room. Luckily our 1st morning I had a roll of toilet paper in my car, because I had less than half a roll to start with.  #3 Coffee maker - to me, its a necessity. There are none. Breakfast is at 9am, we are up at 630-7 with kids. I dont see why i have to go to the deli up the block or wait til 9am for my coffee - its kind of a hotel room staple. Lorry's should go to Target or Walmart and buy 12 inexpensive coffee pots for each room. When the websites being updated - add a sentence stating "BYOC" translated - bring your own coffee.  #4 Small bathrooms - very small. There is nothing that can be done about this, it is what it is.  #5 Not related to Lorrys - The shuttle - run more of them LBI!! Great feature but they are not reliable. Ended up walking 2.3 miles with 2 5year olds, 1 7year old and 4 adults ~ not one shuttle until we got closer to Lorry's!!! In summary, though I did enjoy my vacation, Lorrys or maybe this end of LBI, may not be for our group to return to. LBI was beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed activities across the island - the beach, Fantasy Island, Pirate Cruise, Barnegat Lighthouse + a few of the restaurants. read more

I called Lorry's at the last minute to reserve a room for my family of 5 for the 4 day July 4th holiday weekend. Bill answered the phone and told me that if my family was flexible, he'd see what he could do. He was able to accommodate my request as long as we didn't mind switching rooms during our stay. Beggars can't be choosers so we jumped at the opportunity. We didn't use the grills, the courtyard/picnic tables, the bicycles or the boogie boards during our stay however we did take advantage of the beach badges and the daily bagels/coffee. Those are a great benefit that saved my family over $100 during our vacation. Although Lorry's is not Beach front, it is a block from the beach which is easily walkable. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. I would highly recommend Lorry's for family's or adults looking to vacation on LBI. read more

Just spent five days and four nights at the Lorry. I was an awesome experience. The place gives you the ability to walk to the ocean or the bay. It is "as advertised" place. There are no frills when you stay there- you get your room, some beds, a T.V, microwave, and fridge. The place has some community BBQ's that work great!!!! The staff were very help full and what ever we needed they had, or found for us. If your lookin to save money and still have a great time.... come to "The Lorry"!!!!! We had a fantastic stay here last week. Awesome spot at end of the island, ocean beach access only a short block away. The property was so,so clean. This place is a true gem on LBI. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, made us feel right at home. Room was spotless, full size fridge in room was fairly new and spotless as well. The courtyard is adorable! Grills for guest use were also clean and everything very well maintained. Beach badges included with a cash deposit per room is a very appreciated value. Bill the owner is a great guy to talk to. But the most notable for our family was the sincere kindness of the owner Bill. On our last day we had car problems, the car would need to be towed and we would need a rental car. While I went to get the rental car Bill invited my family to hang out on the grounds (even after we had checked out) and at the end of a long day. (Wish I could link my negative review of Hertz in Toms River here) He even insisted on by us Dinner the the Deli in the corner (in fairness he said the Deli and he split the bill). Won't be coming back. Firstly, the pillows are extremely uncomfortable and I recommend bringing your own. I'd also bring sheets as well because we found a dried blood stain on one of the sheets and neither one of us has an open wound. The bath towels are mediocre (very small) and just need newer towels. The room was dirty and had straw wrappers under the bed. Which the beds were also extremely uncomfortable! I recommend looking elsewhere in LBI. read more

Stayed here with a group of friends a few weeks back. Thank god I didn't actually pay for this place, I got a free ride here. The room was rather small, and while I wouldn't say it wasn't clean... it did appear rather dingy. The employees, where a little strange. They didn't do anything in particular, just a little odd. There is a strict quiet hours policy at this place, so don't expect to have a good time too long after sundown. The neighbors are assholes, one guy tried to start something because we were parked in front of his house and he said he couldn't get his car out. A simple, please move would have been enough, but he had to be a dick instead. On top of all of that... the green head flies are crazy on this end of the island. We literally couldn't enjoy the beach. From what we heard while we were down there... this is common, and I don't know why anyone would stay at this end of the island. At the end of the day, I guess you get what you pay for, but I think I'd rather pay a little more and stay somewhere that didn't remind me of a room from a thriller movie where the main character wakes up in a bathtub full of ice missing both of their kidneys... but hey... you do you. read more

My birthday was coming up and my wife made plans for a special get away. We got our beach passes before our actual check in time to head out to one of the 3 beach sites on this "island end" location. This motel has a very unique location where bay side, south tip, and ocean front are steps away (literally). The breezes converge at this location in ways difficult to describe but it is awesome. The grounds and units are very clean and modest. The motel offers you free use of bicycles, and beach chairs and boogie boards and I recommend taking advantage. Oh yea on my birthday while we were out for dinner the kind folks (and Bill head manager and owner, builder, and everything guy) decorated our room with balloons and put a personalized sign on our door. This was not something my wife had concocted it was all done at their expense and time. There are lots of choices on where to stay on LBI but they will not make you feel as welcome as this fine motel does read more

There were 7 of us staying in one efficiency. Four of the seven were kids. The bathroom was extremely small. Only one person at a time could be in there which did not work well for 7 people. Additionally the only mirror was in the tiny bathroom, however, there were two oversized dressers that were of no use. While the beds were clean, the place overall was old and dingy. We had to go to the grocery store the first night and get EVERYTHING for the room. I mean EVERYTHING-silverware, plates, napkins, toilet paper, soap...NOTHING is included. They tell you how much money you will save because bagels and coffee are provided each morning but you end up spending a ton of money for everything the room lacks. The place has a very religious undertone yet all the employees except the manager are young women-which I find odd. Ultimately we ended up going somewhere else I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

I'm going to start off this review by talking about the positives of Lorry's. I'm not going to lie; there are some. If you come here, there are beds to sleep on, bathrooms to use, and a roof over your head. Thats about it. Lets get to the negatives of this place because I could type enough to crash the Yelp server and still barely scratch the surface. First, lets look to the rooms. The beds are uncomfortable, the rooms dirty, and the fans useless. Day or night, staying in the rooms felt horrible. The bathrooms were horrendous. In a room adjacent to mine, the toilet was basically up against the shower, leaving no room at all. The shower barely works, and even if you get the shower to start functioning, the floors of the showers are so dirty you end up leaving the bathroom feeling dirtier than when you entered it. The owners gave us no towels, no shampoo, and barely enough toilet paper. My friends and I tried to distract ourselves from the horrible conditions with the television, but predictably, the TV had about the same pixel quality as an unripened Idaho potato. Even the TV remote wouldn't work. However, all of this is bearable. I would deal with all of this if I still had the chance to have fun with the friends I came down here with. Yet, the owner of Lorry's made this entirely impossible. He constantly walked around us when we were hanging out in the courtyard, and when we walked at night, he would watch us from the second floor. The motel has a strict 11:30 curfew, so if you are out of your room past 11:30, he will yell at you. If you try to get some fresh air past 11:30, he will yell at you. If you try to walk 5 feet to talk to friends in the room next to you, he will yell at you. And this behavior extends to the rest of the day. The first thing that happened when we checked into the motel was that while my friends were standing around in the courtyard making essentially no noise the owner ran over to us insisting that we are not allowed to make noise outside because of some town ordinance. I understand the town might not want people to be noisy outside, but talking normally in the middle of a motel is nowhere near unreasonable. For the owner, if you are reading this, congratulations on running most likely the highest quality monastery on the island. And now for the last hour of our stay at Lorry's. I was halfway through a shower, trying to destress after some personal issues came up, and Bill, the owner, bangs on our door and forces us to leave immediately in the middle of my shower. We were on the way out, needing just a few minutes, but he would not let us stay a second longer. As he was kicking us out of the room before we even had the time to get all of our belongings, he dropped some condescending comment about how we probably should get home soon. Next time you kick guests out of your motel Bill, don't act like you're their father. I've never had a worse time at any motel or hotel before in my life. If you want to be bossed over by a creepy old dude enforcing ridiculous rules, this is the place for you. If you like staying in uncomfortable rooms with horrible beds and no room, this it he place for you. If you just want to hate every waking second of your vacation, this is the place for you. But if you want to have a good time, please, I beg you, stay away. read more

I can't understand for the life of me how anyone rated this glorified adult daycare any higher than two stars, let alone five. Let me start with the positives: And now the negatives (go brew a coffee and get comfortable--this might take a while). Basics first: the single-bed rooms are absolutely Tiny. There's barely enough space to walk around the bed and the archaic CRT television to the--you guessed it--equally tiny bathroom. The beds are about as comfortable as flat rock filled with smaller, less comfortable rocks. I would complain about the pillows, but the motel staff probably forgot to put anything in the pillowcase--at least it certainly felt that way. It's also probably worth mentioning that the rooms have no heating or air conditioning--just one fan above the bed, even in rooms with multiple sections and five or six beds. If for some God-forsaken reason you just absolutely Must stay at Lorry's--perhaps to see just how horrendous the stay is for yourself--do Not stay in room 12. Room 12 is located right next to the "office," and Bill (the owner) and company have no sense of privacy. Where other hotels make it a policy that their staff be as unseen and unnoticed as possible, Lorry's seems to strive for the exact opposite--to make their staff as intrusive and bothersome as possible. I called Lorry's a glorified adult daycare because Bill seems to believe this the case, pestering his guests incessantly about perfectly reasonable noise levels and time spent outside rooms past "curfew" (is this Kindergarten?) at 11:30. My friends and I spent most of our stay more fearful of the staff than happy to be down the shore. Unless your idea of the perfect weekend getaway is a strict-boarding-school-meets-adult-daycare nightmare where the owner is one step away from forcing you into diapers to keep his toilets clean, I would recommend you stay literally anywhere else--perhaps consider renting a beach umbrella and sleeping on the street outside? Oh! I forgot one positive: The bagels were actually not bad, all things considered. read more

Let me start off by saying that the staff at Lorry's is great. That is where the lure of Lorry's ends. They are stingy with simple supplies such as toilet paper and towels. The bathrooms are dated and extremely small. Worst of all they have a self imposed curfew that the owner Bill enforces with ridiculous vigor. We rented 5 of the 12 rooms. We had 10 kids under 8 years old so you know we did not want to make too much noise as to wake any of them. Also the other patrons wanted to be out side as well. Regardless Bill took it upon himself to yell, berate, and threaten to call the cops on his guest. He repeatedly said this was clear on his website but even having him show me he had difficulty finding the hyperlink. He could not even say that we were loud just that the courtyard is closed and you can't even sit outside your room. I would never stay there again even if it was free as this place takes your freedom from you!!! Unless you feel that you need to be babysat as an adult this place is not for you. Don't worry Bill was quick to note that he gets 100 calls a day to book here so he will not miss your business as I know he did not mind losing ours. read more

Not sure if because we aren't "a family", married or whatever, but the owner seemed to make a fuss about reminding us to be aware of the "adults" around us...we are 30 and just want to enjoy the beach. A great place to stay!!! The staff is always very friendly and Bill, the owner, is wonderful! The rooms are very clean. It's a nice gem at the south end of the island, away from a lot of the hustle and bustle, but close enough to drive a few miles to eat and shop! We spent one night at Lorry's and were extremely disappointed, as we spent $250. First I did not realize it was located in Holgate, which is known for the green head biting flies. We arrived at 10 am and were told by "Adam" there were no beach badges available (Free Badges) and if we bought them at the beach we would be reimbursed. Then once we checked in at 4 pm, bringing all our items upstairs was extremely treacherous due to the stairs tilting backwards and very unsteady. The day was extremely hot (105 degrees), the air conditioner is monitored from the office, so we had hardly any air in the room and we could not control it. The bed consisted of a fitted sheet, flat sheet and a dirty bedspread along with a pillow that was as flat as a pancake (ick). The bathroom was the size of a closet, if you sat on the toilet, your feet hit the vanity. The shower was so small you could not bend over to wash your feet, also there was a 2x4 going across the top of the shower-not sure why (to keep the walls from collapsing??). Trying to make the best of it, we went to dinner and when we returned it cooled down enough to go for a bike ride (Free Bikes), sadly, Bill told us the bikes were only available from 10-6??!!. The next morning, us early risers had to get our own coffee & breakfast (Free Breakfast) because at Lorry's, neither coffee or breakfast available until 9 am-(breakfast consisted of coffee and a bagel). We decided to leave asap. To add insult to injury-Bill told me he would not reimburse us for our beach badges.....also, the maid confided in us that he steals her tips!! Stayed in my share of Jersey shore motels and i don't expect much; this place sadly fell short anyways. The beach down the road gets crowded due to the parking lot at the end of the island and the bay had a ton of giant green head flies. Holgate in general leaves a lot to be desired when LBI has so many other nice places. Would recommend you see what else is available before you book. oh, it's also next to a trailer park, which they do mention on their website, but again a lot of other far nicer places to stay for your money read more

We took our two year old boy to the beach for the first time, and stayed at Lorry's. It was a very nice, clean, charming little place. The location is mint. I walked down to the beach several times during the night, and watched people kite surf all day. The nature preserve is literally half a block away. This is the type of place that people go when they want to feel as if they are part of the community for a few days. It's comfy, cozy, and old school cool. We will definitely make return trips.
