This place was great. We came on a Sunday night and it wasn't packed at all. I saw all of their posted awards and decided to get their two most awarded items: clam chowder and fish and chips. I'm so glad I did! The clam chowder was really great, although I think the best part was the bread they served with it. It was garlicky and cheesy and the perfect balance between crispy and soft. The clam chowder was great too- chock full of clams, potatoes, etc. For an entree, I recommend the fish and chips sampler. You get some of each type of fish, and although I liked the white fishes, I think the salmon was my favorite. The cod was really a classic for fish and chips, but the salmon was so different- I had never had fried salmon before. The fries were great- again, not too soggy, not too crispy. For sauces, definitely try the chili lime tartar sauce. The normal stuff was good, but the chili lime was great! It was a great dipping sauce for the fries too. Even if you don't like tartar sauce, try the chili lime one! It doesn't taste tartar-y, and I guarantee you'll like it! The price was relatively high but not unexpectedly so. For the fish and chips plus clam chowder, I spent just over $20- worth it, but not cheap at all. Great food, good service, not cheap though. I recommend it! read more

Stopped by during a day trip on Whidbey Island. I live fish n chips but this was the first time I've ever seen salmon fish n chips on a menu. I was skeptical but it had raving reviews on yelp so I decided to try it. Mistake. Big mistake. Huge mistake. It was so dry and disappointing. The salmon was over cooked and dry. I love seabolts and come here on a weekly basis. 5 stars for lunch and dinner... However, I finally got around to trying their weekend breakfast today. It was such a let down, I expected much better brunch based off their regular menu. There are positive points like their home cured Bacon and complimentary fruit salad which was made of all berries instead of boring melon... But the actual entree was so far below the bar Seabolts normally sets. I ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict which was literally some cold sauce on an English muffin topped with an egg on one side and crab cake on the other... Then garnished with cold over cooked asparagus. The crab cake was excellent but the rest was so bad it even made the crab cake less exciting. The Benedict needed some more color, maybe a little spinach and tomato or Basil? My whole plate looked yellowish... Potatoes, eggs, fried crab cake, bread, and over cooked asparagus... Not very appetizing. My husband ordered the smoked salmon omlete, again it was just not up to the standard normally set by Seabolts. The content of the omlette was literally just shredded cheese and few cubes of smoked salmon. Again- I have to think: "why no spinach or other veggies?" Especially since it would make the fish stand out instead of looking short ordered? I guess the moral of the story is, eat at seabolts... Just not for breakfast. read more

Don't come here when you are hungry! We arrived at 7:30pm, by the time we seated, ordered and food served, it was 8:50pm. I had a busy day so I skipped lunch and the only thing I had before this meal was a cup of coffee and a toast for breakfast. Maybe the food is great but I can't taste it. I was starving so I finished my seafood skew, Manila clams and grilled halibut within 15 mins. Too hungry I can't even appreciate the food, just ate before I died of hunger. I'm torn... Seabolt's is overpriced but the seafood is fresh and it's good! It's a bit hard to find though. The only real downside is that the service WE received was awful. I've only been once so it's not fair to write a place off by a single bad experience. But a young blond waitress that was burdened by our patronage should probably look for a job she can pretend to care about. The other servers in the restaurant looked pretty attentive yet our own misfortune left us unsatisfied and more then ready to leave as soon as our check arrived. I was a tad skeptical, but this place is very, very good and reasonably priced. I had theHalibut & Chips and my wife had a bowl of Clam Chowder & Halibut Fish Tacos. All of our food was great, with particular emphasis on the clam chowder. I don't think we could finish all the food; in other words, the portions were large. I'd go back to this place in a heartbeat. I got the halibut fish and chips. I felt like it was a bit overly cooked and the fish wasn't that tender inside. My husband got the steamed crab, which he thoroughly enjoyed. An absolutely amazing find. Molly was our super friendly server and she was quick setting us up. I've passed though the island a few times before finding this place, but this is the best. We ordered the Captain's Platter for two (but it's really for three) and everything was amazing. Really, just perfectly cooked, nothing was over or under done. Juicy, perfect filets of deep fried Salmon, cod, and halibut with calamari strips and fresh, tender fried oysters, clams, and pop corned shrimp. It was honestly too much for me to eat everything even with my husband. They had some other non fried options that my MIL chose so she couldn't help us. I'm an Oak Harbor native. When my family and I went to visit, we checked out this joint. I got a Dungeness crab cake, my sister got the halibut fish tacos, and my dad got the cod and chips. Food overall was good. I thought everything was a little overpriced for the amount of food we got. The crab cakes had a good texture to it. It remained flaky even though it was in it's cake form. I was able to taste it and say, "This is definitely Dungeness crab." I also got the clam chowder and there were some big chunks of clam in it, which I appreciate. But portion could've been a little bigger with the price. DO NOT get their salsa. It might've been a bad day for their salsa but it tasted like it was in the freezer for ten years. Not the worst, not the best (or even the middle). Fish and chips with halibut was a sad waste of a great fish - SO overcooked. Plus I think that cornmeal used as a breading, especially on halibut (or any other fish) is awful and ruins it, even if it's cooked well. The chips (fries) also weren't good. Friend had crab cakes and said they were good, however couldn't believe that they were around $23+ PER CRAB CAKE. I suppose that's the market price, but it seems crazy. Came as a group and our waitress was super pleasant. Got us all taken care of and had suggestions to try. One of the highlights was the kitchen had put in an extra cup of chowder in our order, but instead of throwing it out, she brought it to the table with 6 spoons so we could share! (Really fantastic chowder too - tastefully smoky. We suspect bacon). I had the seafood gumbo in a bread bowl - it was super filling with plenty of salmon - letting the seafood aspect overpower the typical gumbo flavors. Bizarrely-run place. If you don't have a reservation, prepare to wait a while standing in the corner with no seating area. Even if you've been waiting half an hour, groups that called ahead for a reservation 5 minutes ago will be seated ahead of you. There was even a group with a reservation that overheard how long we'd been waiting and asked if we could go ahead of them since they just arrived. Nope, they were shown right to a table.
