Me and my parents ate here last night before seeing Phil Collins at the Prudential Center. We had a wonderful meal in a nice open environment with friendly staff. It's a good thing we got here at 5:10 pm as the place was swarmed when we left 90 min. later. The food here is nothing short of amazement especially with its huge selection of seafood. Even though we didn't split any of the apps or entrees, some people might be better off doing so as the portions are huge. The seafood soup appetizer was filled with delicious shellfish and shrimp in a warm bisque. The flavors came nicely together and made for a great start to the meal. The highlight of the evening though was our satisfying and filling frutos do mar. The skillet was stuffed with shrimp, crab, scallops, mussels and a whole lobster in a warm tomato sauce. Not only was this some of the best lobster I've had in a long time, the combo of flavors and seafood was absolutely delicious. The broccoli rabe side was nice as well. This seafood paradise is a great way to spend an evening and leave you full and satisfying for the rest of the night. This restaurant is much better and more staff oriented than a place I went to last month - Adega Grill, which is around the corner from this place. read more

Worth traveling out of your way to Newark for large, affordable portions of fresh and delicious seafood accompanied with refreshing Sangria! I used to consistently dine here before sporting events at Prudential Center; however, with the pandemic my trips have become a bit more sporadic. Each time I come to Seabra's, I leave stuffed and satisfied. My go-to dishes include the octopus, one of the tomato-based seafood stew and seafood paella, but you can't go wrong with anything you order! Hi i been going to this Restaurant for many years now , mainly lunch i decided to invite a co- worker we were greeted and seated right away waiter came we ask for a big bottle of water then proceeded to order . House salad, Sapateira , grilled octopus , Grilled Prawns . 2 espressos . The salad and Sapateira came right away Delicious as usual , then we waited about 40 min for Octopus and grilled prawns . RIDICULOUS TIME .The kitchen or waiter decided to bring it all together in a silver platter which i didnt like at all . Octopus should it been separate on a dish ,by the way they only served us (2 tentacles) very disappointed. I got ripped off right there . They charged me $175. Plus they included a tip on their own $35. Total $210.I didn't complaint because we waited so long for the prawns and Octopus. I think they charge whatever they like if they see you are not Portuges they give you less food and charged you more . I will never go back again is getting ridiculous again no complaints about food quality.my complaint is about the 2 octopus tentacle they were served all together with prawns and the amount they charged me $$$ . read more

A long time ago, my Mom, wife and I visited this well known spot following a long morning shopping in Ironbound. We had a great meal. Octopus, cockles, white sangria. It was outstanding. Fifteen or so years later, my son and I returned. The old spot still delivers. The white sangria was delicious. I was filled with the warm glow of spanish brandy. We split some fried calamari to start. Some of the best we have had. Good crunchy breading, tender. For entrees, we both had the same thing. Beef cubes, shrimp, fried potatoes and onions. This is where you come when you want to experience fresh seafood and most importantly authentic Portuguese food. I always heard that Newark Ironbound has some serious Portuguese and Spanish restaurants but never been able to come around despite living and working relatively closer to Newark. Okay!!! I know someone might think...Newark? But yes, times are changed and so has Newark for better and with that these amazing places which been there for a long time and are being explored. I came here two weeks ago with my coworkers and I was left amazed. The place is self is what I expected to be, old school with no frills but shows it's authenticity by just being what it set out to be, a good place to enjoy family meal. The service is excellent which is representation of amount of care is given not only in food that is prepared here but also how they make you feel when you are there. Now comes the best part!!!! The prices are fair representation of great quality food being served here. The portions are large and quality is higher, as such it is meant for sharing family style. We had fried calamari and garlic shrimps for appetizer; and boy they were awesome. I have had paella in NYC at a fancy Portuguese restaurant and paid close to $100 but that did not even come close to what I had at this place. Today, I came here for lunch and we had Mariscada which is fresh lobster, crabs, shrimps, clams, mussels and scallops simmered in a tomato gravy. Absolutely Amazing!!!!!! As world's best foodie Antony Bourdain (RIP) said ones, "Best sea food restaurants are those who doesn't smell like seafood." And this is one of those place. Oh!!! A hidden Gem nestled away on side street in the Iron Bound section of Newark. Marisqueire has a staple of great food for years! The restaurant is full of ethnicity and everyone is kind. There is a free parking lot located across the street, just remember to get your ticket validated after paying the check! Have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions with small to large groups and they have always been consistent! The menu has a variety of options for every craving! You can choose from cheese/ meat platters to seafood, steak, or rices! The sangria is tasty and the can basically make any drink you want! The octopus appetizer is outstanding!! The place to go for seafood in Ironbound, period. It's cheap, it's fresh, it's plentiful. The waiters are charming, and the place is always busy with Portuguese speakers...good signs for a seafood restaurant. When you walk in you got a choice of hitting the bar seating in the front, or the formal-ish dining room out back. Bar seating gets you a view of the outside through the awning and excitement with the soccer games on TV. Note also the large platters of seafood ready to be dispensed, may it be the crab, the oysters on ice, the octopus salad and whatever you have in mind. It's right in front of you. Order a beer (Sagres is good, Heineken is okay), get some oysters and chat up the barkeep. You'll be surprised how much fun and how drunk you would soon be. Towards the back you have a clear view into the kitchen with all the wares on view. Watch the chef toss vats of fish soup up, and the steaks going on the grill. There are clear displays of the seafood and the large fish steaks ready to be dispatched. And in the back, rows upon rows of tables, with Portuguese porcelain tiles everywhere. Ask for some Vino Verde and treat yourself to some young green wine, or the old Sangria...which while not strictly Portuguese is still rather refreshing. Okay, onto the food - The Octopus salad (Salada de Polvo) is chunks of tender pulpo/polvo, a little onion, olive oil, good vinegar and parsley - really simple and better than any I have had on the other side of the Hudson. The Oyster platter (Ostras ao Natural) is good, the cold seafood tower (Frutos do Mar) is decent with large amounts of fatty shrimp and very fresh shellfish, served cold and refreshing. The warm Fruto Do Mar? Eh, often a little overdone on the kebab side, and I would not recommend it. The Fruto Do Mar del Cataplana is a tomato based seafood-on-the-shell stew served on a copper skillet meant for smaller appetites, and even then it's more than enough for 2 or 3. The Açorda de Marisco is a creamy, rather heavy seafood stew that is very good if you are a little lazy with opening up shellfish. The Carne de Porco à Alentejana (Clams and pork) works well with their local bread when combined with some of that parsley sauce. As for meats? Avoid the steak (Bife À Portuguesa)...kinda meh and usually overcooked. Go with the ribs (Costela de Vaca na Grelha ) as it is more tender and flavorful, and it'll come with rice, chips and vegetables...which is enough to feed at least 2 per portion. For a touch of traditional flavors, go with Bacalhau Cozido com Todos....which makes me wonder if it's a version of Bacalhau Gomes de Sa. Either ways, delicious. Overall, good value, and definitely an anchor of the Ironbound restaurant scene. I would not consider any visit to the area complete without at least one meal here. read more

My husband and I came here on a Saturday night after a recommendation from a close friend. First off, they are located on a busy street, but have their own valet parking IN ADDITION to their own self-park parking lot. This place is pretty fast paced, so don't be too put-off if things are a bit hectic, they are all just trying to keep things moving because it really gets busy. There is a huge bar area when you enter. The staff is friendly, and a bit curt but with a great sense of humor. My husband and I ordered the seabass and the grilled octopus. The Seabass is EXCELLENT! The seabass is probably one of the best I've ever had. It's baked, lightly buttered and flaky, with an amazing light lemon aftertaste. It's simply superb! My family dine here a lot as this is the only Portuguese restaurant they go to and they're very loyal. The food is okay, I ordered a veggie soup which was very delicious, not going to lie, I though it was good start but started to freak out when I saw the portions of the entrees. My aunt recommended codfish which I'm not a big fan but she assured me that their fish wasn't salty and it was worth the try. I went ahead and ordered it with vegetables and was feeling a little scared about the portions and was kind of feeling a lot of pressure about being able to finish it. When my fish was served, I started getting a bit of panic attacks lol. Not only the fish was HUGE but so were the sides AND to make matters worse, the cod fish was swimming in oil. For a person who uses very very VERY little oil when cooking, the amount of oil on this dish was basically about 2 weeks worth of oil for me lol. It didn't taste bad at all, it was just too much for me and sucks if the person doesn't take the rest to go, that is just so much waste of food, it's sad. Anyway, I had no space for dessert lol, I packed the food and gave it to my cousin since he loves that place. I will definitely try it again and get appetizers instead. read more

I'll jump up a star in my review from 6+ years ago. Their food is still as good as it ever was. If I am in the mood for seafood this is one of my top 3 go to's down neck (aka the ironbound.) I've been coming for about 7 or 8 years and I am always happy with the food. I would, however, have some of the original complaints staff wise. There is clearly certain customers that get preferential star treatment. And the guys serving aren't exactly always friendly. With that being said, it's the food that brings me back. If my original review was not enough to get you to stop by and try for yourself, maybe this 2018 version might sway you. Do yourself a favor if you're in the mood for some treasures from the ocean. Excellent seafood. Came on a Sunday afternoon and it was a packed house but we were seated after a twenty minute wait. Immediately complementary cod fritters were given for the table to share while we ordered. Nicely brown on the outside with a good crust and just the right amount of most salty bacalao and maybe some crab meat mixed in on the inside. Warm bread for the table as well. Order took about 20 minutes to arrive and for $100 we got the grilled octopus special which consisted of 4 huge tentacles dressed in garlic and oil with a side of broccoli rabe and potatoes, large plate of calamari, house salad, and a mixed seafood pot in the most Rich and delicious tomato broth with lobster, clams, mussels, tons of shrimp, and scallops with a side of rice. Portuguese food is synonymous with Newark now i think. Seabra is one of my new favorite Portuguese places. A fellow Newarker guided me to this joint and it did not disappoint. While this seafood restaurant is great for groups and large parties, it's also great to go and chow down on a date. You may want to make a reservation, this place is always packed. They also have a decent sized bar area packed with locals every night. The waiters are old school and maybe slow but really friendly. I think it's just hard for men to multitask so they always seem very focused at the task at hand and it's all male waiters over the age of 40 at this joint. The cooks in the kitchen are amazing. You can see them zip around in the grilling area behind a transparent plexiglass. They are so quick it's amazing. The food is phenomenal. They have a bountiful amount of seafood and the prices are very reasonable. Most items are around $20-25. Except the larger items. My favorite is the seabass grilled with their herbed butter. So delicious. The portions are giant too. You go hungry and leave stuffed always. The seafood paella is very tasty too. Pork and clams is also a very tasty dish. Their sangria is very good here as well. The only item that I wasn't too keen on were their soupy dishes. It's a bit salty. But if you go with their grilled dishes you can't go wrong. read more

The garlic shrimp appetizer was OK I've had better at other places in Ironbound section. I enjoy coming to this place but if you ask a Portuguese local they would tell you it's a bit pricey. I don't disagree but I truly enjoy their food. It's difficult sometimes to snag a table as they can be quite full. Put your name on the list, ensure your full party is there, and wait. My last visit there I spent five hours eating and drinking. Had pretty much everything on the menu but my favorite is the cockle's. Barbigão à Bolhão Pato (15.95) New Zealand cockles in tangy garlic sauce - I think I ordered about 3 bowls of those. Nice flavor, not overbearing, hint of garlic and quite tasty. Camarao a Guilho ($14.50) Shrimp sauteed with garlic - Solid dish, although the shrimp might be overcooked at times. Rabos de Lagosta Grelhada ($34.95) Twin grilled lobster tails served with a lemony butter sauce - C'mon now. I love lobster and always order these when I come here. To me it's on point. Gambas Grelhadas market price Prawns complete with head and shell in zesty hot sauce - I am not a fan of shrimp with the heads on but my father is so he ate all of these. I am guessing they were good as none were left. Tomahawk No Churrasco market price (Appx $60) Barbecued Tomahawk steak - A beast and cooked perfectly. You can easily share this dish with a couple of friends. See pci. Sangria is a bit on the light side. I usually order a glass of wine and just dump that in there to "spice" it up a notch. Parking is free across the street make sure you get your ticket validated. Overall, when I visit Jersey I make sure to stop by here for seafood goodness. Truly a gem in Newark's Ironbound District, opened in the 80s by the Seabra supermarket chain and now independently owned. In the dozens of times I've been here I've never had a bad experience, the combination of great food and a casual, low-key atmosphere makes this a great place to go for a Saturday night dinner. You get what you pay for here at Seabra's, it's just about impossible to leave on an empty stomach. The waiters and clientele are friendly and charming and get your food to you on time. In terms of Coronavirus, they've done a nice job setting up outside, providing the same experience you'd get inside. Went to Seabra's today for lunch with our daughter. As we got to a table the waiter said, our credit card machine isn't working, but we have an ATM machine. My wife and I remembered that the last time we were there we were told the same thing. We ordered and my daughter then told us that the same thing had occurred to her and a friend not too long ago. The only reason we stayed is that we had enough cash on hand. My wife and I had 2 fish dishes, both over cooked and dry. I just looked and not too many reviews down from this, a reviewer also had the same experience with the "out of order" credit card machine. I question how a credit card reader could be malfunctioning this often at a restaurant this popular that many times. I also got information that this "problem" has been going on for months. Called back the restaurant the very next day and the manager immediately agreed to reimbursed the two missing items. We sat at the bar for espresso, a whiskey and a mineral water. The typical after dinner treat when I am with my Portuguese friends in the Ironbound. The food I saw coming out looked good. There are many Portuguese restaurants in this area, one every block it seems. I would give this place a look for dinner at some point. My only negative was sitting at the bar, the bottom shelf bottles were completely filthy. It doesn't take much for a bartender to wipe down bottles once a week. read more
