The wood used on this project is getting worse! Obviously I know it's the product but when I paid 3k for supplies alone for a small trellis area that took 6 posts I expected quality supplies to be used. Seriously then why would the costs of supplies be 3k alone? Obviously contractor bought the cheapest product available to save money and how would I as the customer know the quality being used. This is why I hired a licensed contractor for peace of mind but I guess now days you have to check every single detail. Beware. I'm not taking this contractor up on his offer to repair as I don't trust the work or products they will be providing. And yes I did curse out another Contractor with the same name thinking he had taken my deposit and was telling me he didn't. The odds of two contractors calling you with the same name. I found out about Al/Long Beach Building Contractors through Yelp last year. We had just purchased an old house (1911), which was in need of some serious help. I wanted to redo the entire upstairs replacing the drywall and installing new laminate flooring. I first hired Al to do the drywall. He gave us a VERY reasonable quote for the job as many of the rooms had weird angles and lots of trim that required extra work. Other estimates were more than double so we chose to go with Al. The work went smoothly and Al was even able to help us by working on a weekend. His crew were friendly and respectful and even made sure our adventurous cats didn't sneak out while they had the doors and windows open. The cost of the work and quality were above our expectations. I did a lot of the prep work for the flooring myself and asked Al to give an estimate to install the laminate flooring upstairs and down the staircase in our house. Again, he gave us a very reasonable quote and we decided to use Al again due to our satisfaction with the drywall work. Al and crew were able to get the work done quickly with little inconvenience to us. We were very happy with our new flooring and receive many compliments both on the material and the quality of work. I recently contacted Al again to help me install a new vanity. I had removed the old pipe but wasn't sure how to proceed when I ran into a large old iron pipe that I couldn't remove. His crew came and finished the job quickly and the new vanity looks and works great! Our upstairs is barely recognizable from the way it looked when it was purchased in a good way! Thanks Al! We needed a complete kitchen renovation and didn't have a lot of time or money to do it. Because my fiance and I have been screwed over by other contractors in the past, we decided to do our due diligence and research one on yelp. I called three different Long Beach contractors and requested a bid from each. Contractor #1: High quote and needed a minimum two week schedule. Contractor #2: Promised me a quote first thing next morning. Weeks have gone by now and I've still never heard back from him even to this day. Contractor #3 (LBBC): E-mailed me a quote that evening, reasonably priced and needed a minimum one week schedule. It was a no brainer for me, I went with LBBC. But of course I was skeptical... I was skeptical during the whole renovation! For the price he was charging, I thought I was going to get some crappy ghetto-rigged craftsmanship. Here's how the renovation went: Porcelain Tile Flooring: This was the first item they completed. I examined their work like a hawk because another yelper said their craftsmanship was lacking. I couldn't find anything crooked or horrendous with the floors. I have a really good eye for catching crooked things (I'm OCD when it comes to straight lines). Cabinets & Crown Molding: We added 14 cabinets to our kitchen. Our walls and ceiling were not leveled but the workers took their time to install each piece so that it would come out straight. The crown molding is beautiful! They did such a great job!! Quartz Counter top & Sink: Counter top installation is a niche that cannot be done by just any laborer. It needs to be completed by someone who specializes in only doing counter tops. So on Saturday, the counter top guys came over to install. This ended up being such a hectic day! My fiance was out of town in Vegas for his bachelor party and I was in the ER because of a bleeding ulcer. So my sister had to watch the house for us because I wanted to move move forward with the renovation. Once they were finished installing the counter top, they had to drill a hole for the faucet and soap dispenser. I did NOT want a soap dispenser attached to my sink/counter top. Unfortunately for them, I was put under so I could not answer the phone. Instead of going forward and drilling the holes, Al had them wait until I responded to him. When I awoke from my procedure and became coherent, I called Al to tell him that I only wanted one hole for the faucet. The next day, Al sent the counter top guy all the way back to my house just to drill that one hole. I am so thankful that he did not assume anything and waited until he received confirmation from me to move forward with one hole. Back splash: This was the only part in the project that I noticed something was off. In two separate spots, when the worker aligned the tiles, he put them a little far from each other so the grout appears a little wider. My sister said it's only noticeable when I point it out. So, I'm just not going to point it out to anyone! Aside from that, our back splash is gorgeous! All of the cut tiles came out really straight. The great thing about hiring LBBC is that Al is up to date on technology. I was able to text him with my many many questions and he ALWAYS responded no matter how minor it was. Also, he liked to confirm everything through e-mail, so if we decided to change something, he would have us e-mail him so there would be a paper trail. I don't think anyone else does this!! This gave us a HUGE peace of mind. I seriously thought Al was going to charge us some crazy $$$$ fee in the end. But he never did. His quote never changed even though I added a bunch of extra items for his team to complete. I am totally recommending all of my friends to LBBC. Everyone's who's seen our kitchen agrees that it's beautiful and is amazed at the craftsmanship and attention to detail that was put into it. I AM SO GLAD I HIRED LBBC!!!! My first cancellation of the day by the contractor happened in the morning about one hour before my scheduled appointment. He rescheduled for later in the day, and then tried to tell me he'd be a couple of hours late because he was still having his taxes done. Why did he schedule both my estimate and his taxes on the same day. I notice lots of other complaints about cancellations by this fellow in the other reviews. Seems to be a real pattern. We continued to ask for add-on's and Al was great about telling us the cost of the add-ons so that we could decide to proceed or not. I hired them to demolish/replace the damaged bath tub, door, and plumbing fixtures caused by water leaks from the unit above my rental condo. When my tenant noted a problem in the bathtub that the assigned crew could not fix, Al Sanchez personally came over the following day and fixed it himself, plus he even cleaned the stain surrounding the vanity sink (with no extra charge). Since I could not be at my rental unit all the time, he sent me photos and kept me posted during the job construction. Al always returned my call/text/email every time I had a question or concern. Al has a gentle demeanor and gives good communication but you have to work hard with him to get good followthrough on many details. I think he had like three jobs going at the same time and ours was definitely the one that got the least TLC. I had to squeaky wheel it but we got through it. He was very quick to get us a contract and his contract was detailed, but once the work was being completed, some of the details were lacking or had to be corrected twice or sometimes even three times. We were lucky that he was able to start on our project right away. I think since the pandemic started, some contractors are inundated with work and some are not very busy. It seems like Al is in the busy category. I had to be a lot more hands-on to micromanage the project than I wanted to be, which I guess is how these things mostly work but I was hoping for more management from the contractor. I'm not some whiny entitled brat either but details do matter to me. Still, the work got done and a lot of the paint work came out nice. There was a color match even Al admitted was not matched in the final walkthrough and he wanted to charge me another grand to fix it. We're keeping it, oh well. The big stuff was done but some of the little details were overlooked. Prices were overall reasonable and better still, he broke the pricing down per job. He emails you contract updates if you add stuff. He was pretty good about getting back to you quickly but sometimes I wondered whether we were actually on the same page communicating. It helps if you have done your homework and are very specific about what you want. It also helps if you are on site or can visit every other day or so to check on progress. At least Al would usually call or text back though really the only thing that seemed to help was walking the project with him. Over and over again. Al also doesn't seem to mind doing maintenance-type jobs if that's the kind of job you have in mind. I think a lot of contractors are holding out for the $50k kitchen remodel and will otherwise take their sweet time bidding out a lesser job like ours that "only" came in at $23k. That's the problem with our job, it was a lot of little detailed things that eventually came out ok after a lot of communication and recommunication. read more

Our project involved a covered patio, adding approximately 40 square feet to our kitchen dining area and installing large bi-folding doors for an expansive indoor outdoor living space. James was very easy to work and knowledgeable. He connected us with an architect who was professional but took more time than anticipated to complete the plans. However, after the plans were completed and approved, James and his crew got to work and were very professional and efficient. There were a couple of additions and changes along the way in which they handled very well. Except for the extended time waiting for the architect to complete the plans, LBBC did a great job! I needed work on the exterior of my home. A termite infested fence with a water damaged arch that was falling apart. I called Al to get a quote and a ETA to get started. We just finished a remodel of a small house, with all new bathroom (completely gutted with one wall moved to increase the size), load bearing wall removal, closet expansion, and new french doors. They also did new kitchen flooring and backsplash, as well as crown moldings/baseboards and floor refinishing. Al was great to work with, he's a busy guy but worked us into the schedule and was flexible when we kept adding work. The quality has been good and the guys on site worked with the inspector to approve the rough inspection. We have yet to pass the final but the holdup has nothing to do with Al's work, his has been OK'd and our issues were pre-existing. As I said Al is busy, so you might have to do some babysitting of the job on your own (I did my own permit pulling and many times bought my own material for the guys to put in)...but his pricing is fair and he is easy to communicate with over text/calls. So I would not hesitate to call him again when I need anything else. We are working on our before/after photos which we can hopefully post soon. read more
