Short version- really terrific crew here that I would hire again in a heartbeat. I would *highly* recommend them. The longer version- I was concerned about not only getting a good price, but also quality work for a kitchen remodel. I'm used to and was assuming that I would have to piece my own crew together for this project, especially due to the tight budget I was on (eg. granite counters, appliance installs, cabinet painting, backsplash, etc.). So, I got bids from a number of vendors, but decided to also see what LBBC could offer to save me some headaches (along with one other GC company). I was not only very happy with their price, the responsiveness of Al won me over. He was understanding about the budget concerns I had, and worked with me on 'phase one' of the work. I was planning on doing the backsplash and painting of the cabinets myself, but I ended up using him for that as well because of how great everything else turned out. Pretty soon after we bought our first home, I set off to find a solid contractor who had great reviews and was relatively affordable. I probably looked at over 15 contractors on Yelp before finding Al! He stopped by our new place, gave us helpful insight while he looked around, and quickly emailed us a thorough quote with a breakdown of the cost for material and labor. He was the ONLY contractor we met with who bothered to explain all the costs with a detailed pdf (which were very reasonable). Al and his team got to work quickly, arrived on time every day they were scheduled to work, and cleaned up at the end of the day. They did a complete kitchen remodel, knocked down a wall to open up our living space, and installed gorgeous laminate floors that resembled exactly the kind of hardwood I would have wanted to have but at a more affordable price. Al's team also put down tile over our large patio in our backyard, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the results! Victor was our foreman and his team did an absolutely amazing job, the final result is beautiful! Not only was Victor and his entire team absolutely professional and produced stunning results, but they were able to complete the job quickly and adjust any issues that came up so we could get the exact vision we were hoping for! All in all, we couldn't be happier with Al, Victor, their team, or their work and we are so glad we decided to go with them! Al's team did a great job converting part of an extra side room into a bathroom. It was a tough job because all the plumbing and wiring had to tie into lines 2 floors down in the basement, passing through a bedroom in the middle floor. I read the good reviews about Al and gave him a call. I asked him if they could do a built in cabinet to match existing cabinets I already have and explained the whole thing. I sent pictures and drawings. Al said no problem and we arranged to have him come by for a final estimate. He cancelled on me several times and finally said that his cabinet guy wouldn't be able to do it. He apologized for wasting my time and said if I needed anything else to let him know and he would give me a good price. A few weeks after, I texted him to see if they could do some electrical work...move a switch and wire for a light. He said yes, and actually came out and gave a quote. When he came in for the quote, we scheduled to have it done last Friday at 8:30am. He texted a few days prior to confirm this appointment to which I said we were still on. When it was after 8:30 last Friday, I texted him to find out when they were coming. Al responded saying he was going to try to get someone out. That was the last I heard. No one ever came over and he never followed up. Totally unprofessional. He wasted so much time. I still can't believe it really. read more

I've never had the desire to write a public review until now. I am in disbelief from the lack of professionalism and poor craftmanship displayed by Al and his workers. Brief background: For over a year, I studied bathrooms and tile work everywhere. Watched countless DIY online videos and read how-to/basic construction books, all in preparation to remodel our own bathroom and to do it right. I also reached out to a few friends who work in construction for advice. In June I started renovating the only bathroom we have and was doing very well....until I developed Carpal Tunnel on my right arm. I couldn't continue the project or risk permanent nerve damage to my fingers. Up to this point, I had gutted all walls and floor, set and grouted new floor tiles, replaced the toilet, tub, a window, replaced 80% of the walls with backer board and set some subway tile. We needed the walls completed with subway tile, smooth coat, paint, install pedestal sink and several minor tasks. My wife and I have two small children with one bathroom so we needed the remodel completed ASAP. I met with several contractors and decided to hire LBBC. They had good reviews on Yelp and had the lowest bid. I told Al specifically that "I JUST WANT IT DONE RIGHT....NO CROOKED LINES, NOTHING HALF DONE" and he said he could provide that. It turned out that he could NOT provide just that in the first hour of the first day of work. There was one last 24" x 8" panel of backer board I asked the workers to install. I worked for weeks to make sure all studs were level and straight so that the new walls would be flat and level. I also instructed the workers to make sure to scrape off a small remaining patch of mold-stained cracked paint above the shower before moving forward. I returned an hour later to find the backer board panel set crooked and not level with the rest of the wall. It was off level about 3/8", very noticeable and the new door casing would rest on this wall. The moldy patch had been covered with quick set. I had them correct their mistakes but I was in disbelief of their lack of attention to details and simple instruction. After day 1, I considered firing LBBC but decided to keep them and found it necessary to carefully manage the rest of the project. I didn't ask for anything out of the ordinary. I just wanted it done right but for reasons beyond me, it just couldn't happen with this group at times. I couldn't fire them. The search for a contractor took several weeks and almost another 2 weeks for Al and I just to agree to terms. I couldn't risk another lengthy delay as every contractor I spoke to was heavily booked. As much as I wanted the project completed correctly, getting it done ASAP was the biggest priority so I had to stick with LBCC and hope for the best. To their credit the workers did some good things but there were good and bad days. I got up at 4 am to replace crooked tiles. One of Al's workers threatened to leave when I told him the grout looked sloppy and was applied inconsistently. Basic craftsmanship seemed to be a challenge for them at times. I grouted the floor tiles nicely before my injury so I couldn't understand why they couldn't do the same for my walls. When I saw the final grout job I told them they were done working for me. They either rushed the job or simply incapable of laying grout properly. I no longer trusted them to install the pedestal sink and a few other final tasks. With my arm rested and somewhat recovered, I managed to complete everything myself in the following weeks. I still can't understand why these "professionals" couldn't produce with decent quality and craftsmanship. I see straight tile with clean grout application at public restrooms, open houses, magazines, etc. Why couldn't this basic task be accomplished with my bathroom? I was relieved to finally have a completed new bathroom but not satisfied. I tried to remain optimistic and convinced myself that I could live with it but I'm reminded of 3rd rate quality everyday. I only decided to write this review after Al and his workers left reminders of their disappointing way of doing things. I found their trash everywhere. They left sticky spills from a 2 liter Coke bottle in my daughters bedroom. In my backyard they left a door used as a platform, several used water bottles, food wrappers, a half eaten Subway sandwich and discarded tools. They left their garbage but took one of my buckets. I found a groutless groove between tiles by the tub spout of all places. I also found patches of dried thinset where they emptied the buckets at the base of my pomelo tree. My fruit tree for crying out loud! My family eat the fruit from this tree! I could list more but I'll stop here. Al refused to accept responsibility after several messages to have his workers pick up the door and to return my bucket. Al was never on site nor did he ever visit to inspect work in-progress. We settled for an invoice discount but I deeply regret hiring LBBC. read more

Al did it again! This is the second time we're using Al and LBBC. We wanted to update our hall closets and kids rooms closets and drawers int a shaker style / modern look. We had planned to replace the panels and fronts of the drawers until Al came and saved us money by suggesting we use the existing doors and drawers and his team would just fabricate the front into a shaker style! It worked and Al was putting the customer first. He could have easily taken us for more money and more work. All of it was done in two days! We recommend Al and his company and will be using them again in the future. read more

I can't praise Al enough for the service he provided in the repair and remodel of a small shower stall. He responded right away when I inquired about an estimate, gave a very fair estimate and his crew showed up every day at 8 a.m. without fail. The crew and Al were so easy to work with. True professionals. All my questions were answered and I was shown the progress of the project each day. The shower is beautiful. I had almost given up before I found Al. I got a few estimates from others but when I called to schedule the work they never returned my calls. And then there were those who promised to come out for an estimate and never showed up. We use Al, and Long Beach Building Contractors for all of the properties we manage throughout southern California. We work with Al directly, almost daily, I email him over my work orders and within a day the work is completed. And completed well I might add. He is extremely flexible, and works personally with all of my tenants to accomodate their schedules, he and his team even work weekends when we are under a time crunch. They are there for us no matter the job, big or small, they treat each job with the same importance as any other, whether its a full apartment turn or a simple plumbing problem. There has yet to be a job that they could not handle for us. His prices are fair and competetive and often gives me choices when submitting estimates. It has been almost 2 years since we started using LBBC for our maintenance needs, and I will tell you, it has made my life so much easier, knowing the work will get done on time, knowing the quality of the work is at its highest, knowing that there arent any 'hidden charges' and ultimately knowing that my tenants are well taken care of. Super contractor with reasonable pricing, who aims to please. We were so impressed with the results of a large apartment renovation done by Al Sanchez, that we have since used him for two more apartment renovations. Al's crew is prompt, professional and quality-driven. We were especially pleased with the wood-simulated porcelain tile that he recommended for the flooring; the quality of painting throughout each unit; and the modern design elements used in the bathrooms (especially in the custom showers). Oh, and by the way, Al also does exterior painting for apartment buildings. He recently painted one of our buildings and afterward suggested replacing the old, stone facade in the front with modern stone work to make the building look more contemporary. We needed two bathrooms remodeled in our property in LB. I called two other contractors, but Al was the only person that returned my call. He showed up a few days later for an estimate. He took pictures and provided us detailed estimate for each item. We have never heard such a thing; each item was estimated, not like the typical estimate which is the cost for the entire job. We told him what we wanted replaced, relocate, etc, and he provided his feedback with cost which I think is reasonable. We went along with his input too. The following week, they started the demo that took just one day. Victor, his worker was always accommodating to my husband's last minute change and could not have asked for a hard working individual. Both bathrooms took almost three weeks and we are very satisfied with the result. If quality and affordability is what you're looking for, look no further. We will definitely call Al again! read more
