We took the Seafire to Molokini to snorkel s d it quickly became the highlight of our trip to Maui. Let me start by saying the only reason I gave them 5 stars is because it isn't possible to give them 6. Here is everything that is amazing about Seafire: Cost: one of the cheapest snorkel excursions to Molokini. We weren't looking for a lot of frills, and frankly, since they launch out of Kihei harbor there's no time for the frills. Time: since it's a mere 15 mins to get to Molokini, the majority of the time spent on the excursion is spent in the water... as it should be. Service: we were blessed to have Kelly and Melissa as deck hands and they were exceptional. Their knowledge, attentiveness, and overall positive attitudes enhances the experience. They were in the water with us pointing out the sights and guiding us all along the way. Uniqueness: one of the few tours that take you on the backside of Molokini. If you have never done this, you're in for a treat. Wow! They also have a secret place to take you to see turtles. While everyone else is over at Turtle Town, we had this to ourselves. We had a great day our snorkeling at Molokini Crater. The whole crew were relaxed and friendly, eager to share their knowledge of whales, reef creatures, and Hawaiian culture with the 21 snorkelers. The size of the boat was perfect and we were able to get from Kihei Boat Launch to Molokini faster and earlier than the larger charters. We snorkeled in the crater and also at the steep dropoff outside the crater on the S side. I highly recommend Seafire and I'd do it again. read more

Took the 3.5 hour snorkeling trip to Molokini. We had 19 people on the boat including us. Left the Kihei Boat Ramp promptly at 7:30. It was a 25-30 minute trip to the atoll. The boat is fairly small but fit everyone comfortably. Saw a couple of whales on the way there as well. The crew Don and Dana were very attentive and pleasant! There were three stops: Molokini front, back and reef edge. They also stopped near the shore to check out the turtles. Overall, attentive, professional, budget and fun trip. Thank you! P.S. Seafire just got the OK to start running tours again last week. They are doing private and semi-private charters with 2 crew and up to 8 passengers at the moment. Typically they have 22 passengers, so you do the math on if it is even worth the $$ for them to run trips... The captain told me that they are just running 'so their employees have a job'. These owners are a true inspiration in these challenging times. We did their Molokini snorkel on Saturday 6/13/20. WOW! We were one of two boats total at Molokini. It is a great time to go to Molokini. Inside the crater we saw a huge eel, all sorts of reef fish, and beautiful coral. Then came the back side of Molokini - yes they snorkel the back side! I was a bit intimidated, but it was amazing. The water is so clear and deep with schools of tropical reef fish. All of a sudden a huge ray swam under us. WOW! Our captain got word of a pod of dolphins, so he took us to check them out. We've never seen so many spinner dolphins before!!! Kelly made sure we were well taken care of on the boat and in the water. She told many stories of the fish and creatures she has seen. She clearly loves the ocean and the fish. It was great to have her in the water with us to point things out and tell us about them. I love that Seafire protects the reef by telling people not to wear sunscreen but to bring swim shirts, hats, etc instead. Many, many mahalos to Seafire and their crew. We decided late one night to see if we could get on a snorkeling tour. I called this company, hoping that I might be able to leave a message and get on a tour the next morning. When I called, they actually answered. They said they just had a cancellation and could get us on tomorrow morning for a snorkeling adventure at Molokini. The tour was great. We got to experience both sides of the island, including the area they call The Elevator. They were patient and understanding for some of the people in our group who got seasick as well. On the way back, we stopped at an area where sea turtles were known to hangout and got to snorkel with them. Overall, we had a great time. I would definitely use this company again! read more

I had a great experience with Capt Don and crew. I love the small group feeling. We were fed, hydrated and shown the beauty of Maui. From the minute we arrived at the Launch and met Vicky, who gave us a great talk about protecting the reef by using sun cover ups and reef safe sunscreen, Yes it is a thing. She got us all signed in and we were off to the boat. We were greeted by Wendee the Shark and Elyssa the Cat, it was Halloween, they put me in a Tutu. Got seated and these 2 got the lines and Capt. Don guided us out of the breakwater. Smooth sailing out to Molokini Crater. Wendy lead us to the best fish, she spotted a Tako (Octopus) and a spotted Moray Eel. We got out of the water and were served beverages and Pineapple slices. Then we moved to the backside of Molokini to the Wall. Elyssa guided us along the wall. There we saw more fish and Crown of Thorns and Cowries on the wall. We also road the Elevator. it was great fun. Back on the boat Wendee showed us photos of different fish and we looked at cards to identify what we had just seen. Next stop was the Turtle (Honu) cleaning station. This was amazing to see Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles but the best was the 7' White Tip Reef Shark. It was resting under a shelf but came out a few times to see what we were up to then went back to bed. The boat is great, very safe and large, and they provide water, sodas, chips and muffins for $35/head. We left at 11am for a two hour tour and saw whales breaching, dolphins playing next to us for 10 minutes, sea tortoises and little birds eating from our hands. Best snorkeling choice to go with... My boyfriend and I recently went with Seafire to snorkel the Molokini Crater and visit turtle island. We departed at about 7ish (early, but worth it) and headed straight to Molokini. We were provided some cinnamon rolls and juices before boarding and brief safety instructions. Immediately getting on the boat, your names are learned and given a background on what to expect. They also help those who get sea sick with special wrist wraps and oil to behind the ears to lessen/avoid sea sickness, even if it's a decent 20-25 min boat ride. There was only about 20 people in our boat -compared to other boats with over 50 people in them and you can tell it was more personable on our boat... like getting called upon by your first name and making sure you were okay through out the trip. We got to see the most colorful fish, an eel, and even a baby shark (don't worry they won't put you in harms way...these guys are pros!). Luckily we were also able to visit the back side of the crater where the waters were even bluer. The captain had been doing this for 20+ years everyday and knows when it's ok to swim the backside or not due to waves and choppiness. We were given fresh pineapple, chips, muffins, beverages to snack on and help get the salty taste off our lips. On the way back, dolphins swam so close to us, we even stopped a couple times to watch and it was so much seeing fun how interactive they were. We get to turtle island and see lots of turtles. We snorkeled above their cleaning station and it was a sight to see. I'm an experienced swimmer and snorkeler, but there's no way this boat should've gone out July 7 to Molokini (likely the aftermath of Hurricane Barbara). They did warn us 'if you're not an experienced swimmer, this is not for you'. That's an understatement. Waves were too high. This was my first time getting motion sickness in the water. As we were getting on the boat, got banged up again by waves pushing me against the ladder. Crew was nice but tried to downplay it. They went on the other side of the crater which was only slightly better. On the way back, one crew member, and half of snorkelers were seasick. Dropped off seasick snorkelers at the dock then took us back out to swim with turtles. Much better there as we were closer to shore. Also noticed there were no snorkeling boats at Molokini that morning. Lesson learned here. Next time, I will call around before I go out. read more

What a great Molokini snorkeling tour! It's hard to differentiate the various tour services, so I went with Seafire off of a friend's recommendation. Let's start with the service: Kelly and Melissa were the best! They seemed to know EVERYTHING about the marine life we were seeing and played a very active role in finding and identifying the coolest fish for our group. In a 3 hour span, we managed to see: all the incredible fish and coral around Molokini (15-150 ft depths with clear water), a huge moray eel, a grey reef shark, jelly fish, a puffer fish, a pod of 30+ spinner dolphins, tons of turtles, and an octopus. If you're looking for the chillest snorkeling trip while you're in Kihei, look no further. I just went on a snorkeling trip with Seafire Charters and had a GREAT TIME. Of all my snorkeling trips, this one was my favorite and I will definitely go with them again the next time I'm on Maui! The chartered boat is smaller and brings on board 20 guests. Kelly and Don are fantastic! I really enjoyed Kelly's warm and friendly energy. You can really tell that it's not just a job for her. She loves swimming in the waters of Hawaii and showing off the incredible sea creatures off Maui's coast. The trip started with whale watching on the way to Molokini. We hung out in the inside part of the island for about 45 minutes. We were then taken to the back side of Molokini with very deep water behind it. This was SOOOO rad. The dropoff on that side of the island goes down over 200 ft and you can't see the bottom. We heard so many whales singing and communicating with each other. And finally we went to Turtle Town after more whale watching on the way back to the dock. They served fresh pineapple and Costco muffins and bags of chips and Aloha drinks. Um, rad. Our group had a great time! Call ahead of time. The 7:30am departure trip was perfect. You get back right around lunch time - so follow up your underwater adventure with an amazing lunch nearby at Da Kitchen or 5 Palms. read more

Molokini Plus++ The best snorkel experience we've had in the Islands. Crew and captain polite, courteous, attentive and very helpful. The boat was comfortable and accommodated about 21 passengers. The Seafire is a awesome snorkel boat designed specifically for snorkeling. We were one of the first boats out to Molokini that morning leaving Kihei at 7:30. The crater was full of sea life and brilliant colors of coral. As the big boats began bringing in crowds we pulled anchor (after 50 minutes snorkeling) and did a drift snorkel on the backside of the crater. From Molokini we proceeded back to Kihei and snorkeled at the turtle cleaning station. We observed countless turtles and more sea life. All this was done in about 4 hours on the water. Nothing was rushed and we felt we had more than enough time in the water. Simple refreshments were passed around. Overall, an outstanding experience again. Stellar crew. Great memories made. If you want crowds, a long day on the water or tempted by a BBQ lunch, stick with the big boats. If you want to snorkel, snorkel and snorkel go with Seafire. I love the low key vibe of Vicki and Captain Don. The crew was incredible and very attentive (Kelly and Melissa ROCK!) Smaller number of snorkelers, and the Seafire even left later than other boats which I thought gave us time at Molokini when other boats were gone. Had plenty of time to swim in the crater and on the backside of the island. A great experience, and I will most definitely hit them up again when I come back to Maui. On Wednesday June 20 and Friday June 22 I had a truly outstanding time snorkeling with Seafire. On Wednesday we snorkeled on the back side of Molokini crater which not many companies do. On Friday we snorkeled out at a reef for some more spectacular underwater scenery and saw dolphins! Crew was amazing and very helpful every step of the way. A lot of the larger boats will have up to 100 persons in the water but with Seafire having about 20 made it a much more personalized trip, and the price was more reasonable than the bigger companies. Took the 3 hr. snorkel tour. The crew was friendly and helpful. It happened that there were some whale sightings in the bay (off season) and Cpt. Don took the boat for an impromptu whale watching tour. Service was great, crew was friendly, and they cost about half as much as the other groups. The trade off- less "perks"- no lunch, no towels. But, bring your own towels, and you get plenty of snacks (muffins, chips, fresh pineapple, and sodas). Definitely would recommend this one! read more

Took the morning snorkel trip on our latest trip to Maui. We have been on the bigger boats where the trip is 4-5 hours long and they serve a continental breakfast and BBQ lunch and decided that it wasn't our thing, so this time we decided it would be better to try a smaller boat. A bonus is that it departs from the Kehei landing which was a quick 5 minute drive from our place. We had four crew members on out trip and 15 passengers. After a quick safety talk we were off to Molikiki. Because the trip leaves about 30 minutes before the boats from further north and the trip is not as long, there was only three other small boats at Molikini when we arrived. Crew was very helpfull about making sure all equipment was clean and ready to go. Once there the crew helped you into the water and offered noodles to those who wanted them. After about 30-35 minutes of free snorkeling one of the crew member led the group to the outside edge of the crater to see the drastic drop off. Snorkeling was good with great visibility. After being near the edge for a fe minutes we noticed that the boat came over to pick us up. We loaded up and off we went. Crew offered soft drinks, water and muffins as a snack. On the way to one the "turtle towns", we spotted a pod of dolphins and the captain put us into position to watch the spinner dolphins do their thing. We pulled up to "turtle town", where we were the only boat. Once in the water we realized why it was called turtle town. Turtles laying on the reef, swimming at the top, cruising through the area and getting cleaned by the fish. We saw more than 20 turtles in a 50 by 50 foot area. Even though the trip is 2 hours shorter than some of the other bigger boats, because of the shorter distance to Molikini, faster boat and less people, the actual water time is the same. Crew was great! Really earned their tips today an d you could tell that even though they have been operating this tour day in and day out for several idea, they truly do enjoy it. I would definitely recommend this for people who: 1. Don't want to snorkel with a crowd of 100+ 2. Don't want to spend 10-15 minutes getting on and off the boat 3. Don't need breakfast and lunch service 4. Want to spend the same amount of water time in 2 hours less Not recommended for those who: 1. Cannot tolerate a rougher ride 2. If you are looking to go snorkeling and don't care that you get fed fillet mignon and champagne on the way with 100 other people, this is the boat! No frills, but you get serious snorkeling time, a personal touch and you do get pineapple, soft drinks and muffins. This boat holds 22 people max so you are never crowded in the water or on the boat. The boat doesn't go too fast but you do get to your destinations in enough time to enjoy them. This is what we did on our three hour tour: 1. Saw a whale 2. Went to Molokini and saw some amazing fish...other boats were there but they were in another spot and swimming on top of each other... we had a nice spot with lots of room 3. Saw two more whales and Captain Don stopped the boat so we could watch them more closely 4. Listened to whales singing because they put a hydrophone in the water....this was AMAZING! Whales singing and you get to hear the live concert! That was worth the trip alone (and I haven't gotten to the turtles) 5. Went to a ship wreck and saw a sea turtle surface 6. Went to "Turtle Town" (there is more than one Turtle Town)...this one is a cleaning station where you are the only boat unlike the other Turtle Towns...this should have been called "Turtle City" because we saw at least 12 turtles...sleeping on the bottom, being cleaned by fish, swimming, surfacing, playing with each other...it was amazing! There were some big a** turtles and they are absolutely beautiful, majestic creatures I've talked to others that went on the "fancy boats"...not only are they twice the price, but they never stopped to see the whales, swan on top of each other in Molokini and saw one turtle in their Turtle Town. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 (Day 4) Count me in with the rest of the reviewers! Capt. Don and his crew are fantastic and as nice as can be. This trip is no-frills and is a GREAT value! The breakfast was just enough: water, soda or juice; pineapple; muffins of a variety. Don and the crew: -- are educational; -- tried to make sure we saw a ton of stuff and avoided crowds; -- took the time to ensure we were properly fitted for gear; -- did little introductions (this was nice since the boat was so small); -- helped me when my mask kept filling up (turns out I can't smile or talk with it on because I break the seal with my cheeks). Our trip only had about 20 people - and that is about how many will fit on this boat. That means you don't have to waste precious snorkeling time waiting for 120 people to re-board like those large boats. The boat is an old coast guard boat so it does move faster than the other charters. We promptly left the dock for Molokini and were the second boat to arrive - we had plenty of time before all the large boats showed up. The fish are amazing - it's almost as though they don't care you're there and feel safe around people floating about. When other boats showed up, Capt and his crew noticed it was getting crowded, had us board, and took us a little ways off Molokini to the steep drop off for additional snorkeling. There wasn't much sea life out there but it was cool nonetheless. Next we went to the Turtle area (breakfast in between). We saw tons of turtles getting cleaned by fish, surfacing for air, and swimming up to the boat to check us out. This was the neatest experience. Something additional I noticed - while we were snorkeling, the crew would go around and lay out our towels to dry out in the sun...so nice to get out of the water to a warm towel! I am glad I picked sea fire for my trip to Molokini. They have very reasonable price- we paid $60 for each because we called them directly to book the trip. Many other top rated boats priced double of that. They have super high rating at Tripadvisor and was recommended in the book Revealing Maui. We had around 20 people that day. The crew are super friendly and very helpful. I am four months pregnant and I felt very safe to snorkel with them. They gave sea band to those ppl who may be sea sick before they headed to the bay. And we had some really good pineapple and refreshment during the trip so we can keep our energy. Kelly is great -she swim like a fish in the ocean and she helped rescue other people who may get into trouble in the water. She dived into the deep water to show us and teach us the name of fishes. I had the chance to take a molokini trip with this team and loved the experience. It's a small boat limited to 20 customers and that makes the whole experience much more personalized. If you are considering them here are some things to think about. * They depart and return from a boat ramp in Kihei- which means there is no place to shower until you get back to your accommodation or to a public shower in a beach. There isn't a restroom on the boat but there is one in the boat ramp. * smaller group means they will get to know everyone by name and ensure everyone is accounted and cared for. You won't be lost in a big boat. This could be crucial if you are a first timer or if you're not a good swimmer. Having someone with you when you swim in 250ft for the first time can make all the difference * They don't offer breakfast or lunch but they do offer snacks. They had mini cinnamon buns at check in and they also served pineapples, chips and muffins on the boat after snorkeling. I liked this option better because I was able to grab light breakfast before trip and had refreshments available after snorkeling. This also helped us to save money * Last but not the least, smaller team means quicker movement for checkin, boarding and snorkeling. Our guide did a mini educational spiel after snorkeling talking about the things we saw and I loved it too. I enjoyed the trip and I felt that this was a real value trip. I loved the whole experience and crew was just fantastic. They are cash only business and they are a family owned small business. Excellent trip to snorkel at the Molokini crater. I was a little hesitant as I'd seen reviews that didn't really mention seeing many fish. We saw lots! We were at the crater quite early so there were not many folks there. I know it can get crowded. Some boats arrive with more than 100 people. Seafire take small groups out so are well taken care of. The staff are knowledgeable and make sure everyone has snorkel equipment that fits properly. The snacks of muffins and pineapple were well received. We were able to snorkel both the inside ad the outer side of the crater and the moved on to "Turtle town" which was not so impressive. The water is not as clear as at the crater. Snorkeling with Seafire Charters was the highlight of my trip to Maui. The snorkeling excursion may not be as long as the other companies out there, but that's probably because they ship out much closer to Molokini (from Kihei instead of Lahaina) so they get there much faster. Plus, I think our snorkeling time was perfect. And they have a smaller boat, so the ship isn't super crowded so you have to wait forever to get in the water. The waters were awesomely clear that morning and the crew from Seafire are super friendly. We snorkeled on the front side of Molokini for about an hour, then the Capt. took us to the back side of the island. It was beautiful there, albeit a little cold (thankfully we didn't stay there too long). Afterwards we went to "turtle town" and saw a ton of turtles. SO AWESOME. Totally made my day :) read more

2nd DAY in MAUI - Saturday 9/13/08 We wanted to do a snorkeling trip and thought that a trip to molokini would be the best. This was also the cheapest by far of all the tours. Also, the boat is not that big (20 max) so you didn't feel like you were with a ton of people. The other tours are mainly catamaran's that include a BBQ, open bar and a huge boat. Who really wants to get drunk while snorkeling? PROS: * 3 stops: Molokini, Turtle Town (swimming with large honus), and a sunken ship. * There is also an area where a ton of birds come aboard and you can feed them from your hands. * We are the last boat to head over to molokini so the start time is the latest (7:30 AM meet time). * Small boat: less people on board. * Food and snacks: They provided muffins, freshly cut pineapple, and cup of water. * They provide snorkeling gear, flippers, and life jackets and noodles are optional. CONS: * Meet time was too early 7:30 AM. * Boyfriend got a little seasick. Might have been from the heavy drinking the night before. read more

Excited that we were able to go to Molokini snorkeling today when all other companies were booked. Seafire looked ok and we were cool when we first showed up this am. Vicky checked us in and boat looked ok.... until old salty captain Don announced we only had one engine. Said it would take twice as long to get to crater. In fact, it was 3-4 times as long to get there and back. We still left and returned at normal times. Great company and crew! I did the 7:30 snorkeling trip. I couldn't have asked for a better company and crew for my first trip. I told them I was a bit nervous and they totally listened to me and eased my fears. By our last stop I was the first off the boat. We had 4 stops and conditions were amazing for the turtles. I'm going back before I leave this week. The refreshments are homemade and they also feed a few cute sparrows. Thanks to this company I'm definitely a snorkeler now! read more

There are a lot of options in Maui and we thought Seafire Charter was a great choice! We stayed in several locations in Maui and decided to go snorkeling to Monokini while we were in Kihei. This is not a BBQ/open bar boat -- we wouldn't have eaten the BBQ or drank, so Seafire was perfect for us. Captain Dan and his crew were some of the kindest and hardest working people we have met in Maui. They took us to great spots (Molokini front and back), checked in to make sure everyone was okay, and served Costco muffins, fresh pineapple chunks, and juices. One of my favorite memories of Maui is swimming with the turtles and watching them cleaned by helper fishes. I saw 10+ turtles and a small shark. I saw 3 turtles frolicking and playing with each other. It was amazing! read more

These folks were great. We started off at 7:30 am to Molokini Crater.The boat was smallbut fast so there weren't too many people, but enough to make it fun. I forgot the names of the people who own this joint,but they are dedicated and knowledegable- we saw a shark, tons of fish, a few turtles, and felt like we were being looked out for. This is a great trip for people who don't want to go on a whole day or half-day trip, but want a little guidance to started snorkeling- or who just want to check out Molekini for the first time. read more

There are only about 3 or 4 Molikini Charter boats that take you to the front AND back of Molikini Crater and Seafire is one of them. They are absolutely awesome! The one on one interaction with the staff is amazing! They're super friendly! They know everyone by their first names and a addresses each persons concern without being condescending! They show the Aloha spirit on a whole new level. I've done the Molikini crater with Boss Frogs and although they were great, IMHO, I prefer Seafire. I would go with Seafire when I visit Maui again! read more

Giving swimming with the fishes a new meaning. The crew on Seafire is outstanding. Captain Don, Vicki, Melissa and Sarah are pleasant kind and all around great folks. The number of people on the boat is small, under 20 ppl, so there was personalized service. Pineapple, muffins, juice on board. They provide all the gear. We went to molokini, tried the backside but too rough, swing around to the outer rim (under water) across from the main site. Then off to turtle town. Highly recommend this crew!! read more

Seafire was outstanding! I've made a few trips out to Molokini on the bigger boats, and they're fine, but this was so much more enjoyable. Leaving from Kihei, you beat the crowds by 30 minutes. Then, when the big boats finally arrive, you swing around to the back side of Molokini, where the other boats won't even go. And the backside is like a totally different experience, with different critters in another environment. Like 2 trips in one! Bonus, they're cheaper than the other guys! Can't say enough about these guys. read more
