Super last minute morning of reservation. Reservation was as easy as you would want. The deck hand and captain were very professional and personable. Unfortunately we had rough waters and they tried to make it better by changing spots. Got to snorkel around Molokini saw some dolphins and did a little bit of snorkeling back at Maui. Absolutely gorgeous trip to Molokini! Angela and our captain were so much fun and they had all the gear ready for an amazing snorkel tour. I appreciated that this was also a tour with guides respectful of the environment and the wildlife. It was literally like swimming in an aquarium!!! We had the best time and learned a lot about Maui's history and why whales come to the sunken area between Maui Molokai and lanai. Definitely recommend! Also if you've ever done a catamaran and gotten sick, try the tube boats they have at blue water rafting instead. They are super smooth and were an incredibly enjoyable ride. These snorkel spots were amazing, so many beautiful snorkel spots with white tip reef sharks, starfish, sea urchin, and so many different fish! This was one of the best snorkeling tours I went on. Our guide was friendly and gave us insights into what we were seeing. We toured the lava caves on the southside. We were lucky to have a great weather day and few people. We snorkeled La Perouse. We got to snorkel some great parts of the inside of Molokini Crater, AND also the backside which was 60 ft deep near the crater! It was such a a unique experience. Then we saw a bunch of turtles and 'cleaning station' at Turtle Town. What a great day on/in the water. read more

We wanted to go whale watching while in Maui and decided to go with Blue Water Rafting because being in the inflatable boat made more sense to me and their reviews were very positive. Right off the bat, Captain Scott and Kanoe were very personable and knowledgeable, which added to the adventure. As we headed out to the deeper waters, they told us what to expect, what the different movements of the whales meant and entertained us with their banter. As luck would have it, we came across a pod of whales who were very active and willing to put on a show for us. At one point, they even swam under our boat, much to our amazement. All in all, it was a great excursion that was made even better by the crew, and the whales, of course! read more

I do not recommend this company. Our rafting tour out of Kihei was cancelled after we had only been on the water for an hour because one of the motors went out. While equipment issues happen, the way this situation was handled afterward was unacceptable. We were unable to rebook because we were leaving Hawaii the next day. The owner, Brooklyn, only refunded a very small portion of what we paid, despite the tour never being completed. To make matters worse, one person in our group became sick and was unable to attend. We were clearly told that they would receive a 100 percent refund if we provided documentation from a doctor. We submitted the required medical documentation as requested and never received a refund. Brooklyn also stopped responding to emails and follow ups altogether. Between the partial refund for a cancelled tour and the complete lack of follow through on a promised medical refund, this experience felt unprofessional and untrustworthy. Communication was poor and commitments were not honored. I would caution others before booking with this company. read more

Exceeded expectations! Captain Alex was knowledgeable about every aspect of the tour from boat safety, water conditions and weather to fun facts above and below the ocean surface. I enjoyed the laidback, flexible feel of the small boat outing. Alex took us to several different snorkeling sites which exposed us to the diversity of the underground world. Colorful fish, beautiful coral, algae-coated sea turtles and a bonus dolphin sighting were a delight to experience sans the aquarium glass. In addition to the snorkeling, I thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride as well. Alex clearly knew the waters, and I felt safe the entire trip...which made the big waves a grand adventure. If you have health concerns, you should heed the cautions in the waiver. If not, sign up and have a great time! We had to cancel a different excursion with BWR at the last minute because a member of our party was ill. The team at BWR was so easy and helpful in dealing with the issue. They tried to get us on the exact same excursion, couldn't but did get us on a similar trip later on in the week. I really felt the Front-Office did more than they needed to. First of all I want to recognize the great skipper and crew (Mikey & Angela), and how much they made this trip so much fun and worth every penny! Not only did we see all the lava flows on the very southern edge of Maui, we got to see the caves, arches and snorkel a great reef area before heading to Molokini. We were treated to mild waves and got to snorkel the back side! It's so deep and dark blue waters there with so many cool fish to be seen, plus we saw a small reef shark. the crater itself is full of beautiful sea life- we saw an eel and lots of puffer, rainbow, parrot, angel and various reef . The most amazing part of the trip was seeing 4 humpback whales that were surfacing, breaching and doing the beautiful tail flip! Just when we thought we had seen it all, a school of dolphins showed up and were with us for several minutes doing jumps and spinning moves and providing such a fun finish to the trip. Final snorkel spot had a couple turtles and eels again. A 5-Start trip + 2 stars for the whales and dolphins! We will be back. (Side note- we did this trip 15 years ago and it was amazing so we came back with our grown kids and it was even more amazing this time. read more

We booked last minute because I wasn't sure what the clarity would be after two back to back Kona storms but I saw a break in the wind so looked for the best Maui open water adventure possible and Blue Water Rafting offered an unbeatable itinerary. They are also a local business which is a must for me. The crew did not disappoint. In fact, this was one of the best, if not the best, family snorkel trips I've ever booked. Captain Brandon must be one of the most experienced captains around the island because he knew every inch of the water- he took us to ancient lava caves and let us snorkel under a lava arch. He taught us the geological names of the different types of lava formations. And he was really great with my 11 year old daughter who was too scared to snorkel. Because the winds were so calm, he took us to a reef in the area between the coast and Molokini - a spectacular shelf. Then Cap'n Brandon spotted some whales and maneuvered us right to them. It takes a skilled boater to get so close and still be safe. We were surrounded by melon-headed whales (dolphin family) for at least 30 min. Dakota, from the crew, captured an epic video of the pod eating fish. Aloha indeed. The whole crew, including Dakota and Gabriel, were fun, funny, knowledgeable, helpful and overall super chill. Blue Water Rafting is our go-to outfit for whale watching -- we're locals on Maui for 25 years, and everything about the tour is top shelf. Boats are in great condition, our Captain was a former Coast Guard guy, and they're tuned into the ocean and all the cool spots. The boat isn't your typical cattle-call vessel: limited number of passengers, very maneuverable, and the ride is actually fun. We saw lots of whales and had a great time.
