Stopped for lunch; the parking situation is not the best we parked at the lot next to it. Once you get in you must order before sitting down. Food was fresh and the mango drink was delicious. Would come back again and try something else.

I love whole fried catfish over fillets. So after researching, I ordered pick up from the seafood shack. I've seen this place dozen times, but never thought to get food from there. The place was very crowded, so it was a good thing that I ordered online ahead of time. I got the impression that a lot of regulars go there. The majority of the parking in front of the restaurant is for to-go and online orders, so maybe all of the patrons parked in the back somewhere? My food was still hot when I got home. The catfish was fried extra hard, just the way I like it. It came with fries. They were your typical frozen fries with seasoning sprinkled on them. I did not eat them. It also came with hush puppies and some hot sauce. The catfish was pretty good. And because I'm so greedy, I also got the shrimp boil. I was so full from the fish, I was only able to taste one of the shrimps just to get an idea, you know, while they were still hot. From what I could tell, the shrimp was pretty good. It came with corn and potatoes, as well. Oh and yes, they have a drive-thru.

Red snapper a la diabla. I ordered a small one.

Came here for the first time on a Sunday around one pm. The music was overwhelming and loud. I didn't like how crowded it was. The tables were too close together and tiny. Being a seafood restaurant there's large dishes and platters and it was not practical. We had to play Tetris with the drinks and sauce stand to make room for our plates. I really wanted to run out before ordering anything because it was just too much. But the drinks and food came out fairly quickly. The food was satisfying. The menu has so many dishes it was very tasking to choose. The drinks were refreshing, I ordered an agua de guayava. It was perfect no artificial sugar was a plus. One of my kids is a chicken nugget kid so he ordered cheese sticks as a meal. I was pleasantly surprised because they were tempura battered or beer battered. Looked good. Had a nice cheese pull. I hope they don't start cutting corners and change them for freezer cheese sticks because it's these details that set them apart. My other kid ordered crab legs with garlic sauce and a shrimp cocktail. The crab legs were flavorful and cracked fairly easily. They didn't offer bibs or hand wipes. Don't say I didn't warn you. Now time for the shrimp cocktail. A shrimp cocktail is a big tell on how the rest of the food will be. The sauce was perfectly balanced. It wasn't straight ketchup. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. All of them. Not one overcooked. And let's not forget the avocado. Already in the cocktail with a perfect shrimp to avocado ratio. Generous. Lovely. I love it when I don't have to dig to find avocado or shrimp. My dish was the red snapper a la diabla. Although it was full of flavor the reason I ordered is because I expected heat. They were definitely scared of making it the way it's supposed to be. Hot! No heat at all, my chicken nugget kid tried it and didn't even notice any heat. I wish they could customize the heat level. I make a la diabla sauce at home so I know what to expect. I want that sauce to be so hot I start to have flashbacks.

Shrimp Boil was amazing and the portions are amazing. The fried jumbo shrimp is huge. The calamari was freshly fried.

Seafood Shack has been in my bookmark for months so today I did a take out order for lunch. Typically when I drive-by, cars are in the parking lot so I figure the kitchen is kept busy. I ordered two piece catfish with four shrimp and an order of coleslaw. I was impressed with the size of the flattened shrimp. The catfish was too rubbery to me. I didn't enjoy it. I'm very glad that I got the coleslaw to make up for that. Will I go again? Yes. Will I have the catfish again? No.

$5 Shirmp or cheviche tostadas on Monday!! Honestly I order these every time I come but plus on Mondays! I see a ton of people ordering the seafood soup. Smells amazing with large pieces of seafood. We always sit at the bar to watch the food come out & get the best service. This location stands out above the rest with their service & food quality!

Met a friend here for dinner after work. It was so casual and no fuss and delicious! I had the shrimp enchiladas and my friend had the boiled shrimp and sausage. We each had a marg ($6 on Mondays!) and chilled and talked for 2+ hours. The restaurant inside is nicely laid out , not too loud, and everything just runs very smoothly. You order at the counter, they bring you your food. Simple as that.

Y'all.. the margarita (watermelon) was so bomb! This is a great Mexican seafood spot. True I was the only sister there but the vibe was cool. Good was good and drinks were strong. Can't wait to go back. 4 stars tho cause the lady taking my order didn't speak any English and some of the servers so it's hard to communicate and plus you have to go back up to the front to order everything. They don't just take your drink order while you sit down. I had two margs and some shrimp and octopus seafood dish with a spicy red sauce and veggies and rice! Yummy

    Mexican cocktail
    Renee' F.

Ordered 1lb shrimp, no head. Mexican cocktail and ceviche. The ceviche was bright and yummy. The boiled shrimp lacked flavor, were way over cooked, and since they weren't split down the back like some seafood boil places do, they had to be cleaned before eaten (you know what I'm talking about and No thanks). The Mexican cocktail was pretty standard, but since I had to clean my shrimp from the boiled option I paid attention to these and guess what, 25% + of them had to be cleaned before eaten as well. This is all well and good if you don't care about eating the shrimp poop (and I know people that do not care), but I do care. So I will try other menu options next time.

It gets very busy in the evenings, so plan accordingly. The menu has an extensive selection of Mexican classics including a large seafood section. We split the parrillada mixta (listed for one but easily feeds two), and it was excellent. The steak, chicken, shrimp, and sausage were all cooked well and flavorful. The rice and beans were solid sides. The salsa was great, and our server kindly brought out a spicier version for us, which was very tasty. Service overall was terrific! Only downside: the chips were a bit mediocre. We will certainly return!

The food on the menu looks really good, so I'll come back for that. One thing I found impressive was the salsa for the chips. It's more of a southeastern style that is pure red chili (Arul, I was told, very flavorful!!) without being loaded with tomatoes and chopped up cilantro and onions as so many TexMex places feature. I've been looking for a place that does "real" salsa without being pico de gallo (tomato, onion, cilantro, and water). The salsa here is all red chili sauce much like is used with Huevos Rancheros in New Mexico. The food on the menu looks more continental Mexican than TexMex, so if you like that (unusal for Dallas) then check this place out. Interior is upscale but still relatively casual with a large seating capacity so they should be able to handle a veritable stampede. Great date spot as the service is good and the food looks really good! I'm sorry to be meeting friends at a Chinese dive buffet tonight versus eating here, but I'm coming back soon to try their food. It is NOT TexMex. If that is what you're looking for there is an El Fenix within a mile of here that can accommodate you. I'll give an update in a few weeks on the entree options because I will get my diner group to come here soon.

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

As you walk up, you're greeted by great R&B music playing outside, and I assumed the volume inside would match. I was pleasantly surprised--it was perfect. To me, the ideal dining vibe is good music paired with the ability to hold a normal conversation, and they nailed it. The space includes an open seating area along with a roped‑off section for the in‑person kitchen experience. Service: From the moment I walked in, the host made me feel welcome. My server was fairly new, but she was excellent--helpful, attentive, and honest. If she didn't know an answer, she went to find out instead of guessing. She checked in often, made sure we had everything we needed, and genuinely cared about how our meal was going. Outstanding service all around. Food: The food was another highlight. The pork steak was seasoned beautifully--full of flavor and cooked just right. The meatballs, however, were just okay for me. The sauce was delicious, but the meatballs themselves could've used a bit more seasoning. I do wish they offered complimentary bread or included it with dishes. They do have a Rosemary & Garlic Confit Focaccia available for an additional charge, and it's very good, but it would be nice to have a starter option included. Overall: I absolutely recommend giving this place a try. Great food, great music, talented chefs, and genuinely wonderful service. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
