I went here on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. That coupled with the high rating had me excited to try this place. The service was just okay, but it is a hole in the wall, so I did not expect anything more. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari. The batter tasted like bland cornmeal and the calamari was overcooked. For an entrée, I ordered the fish tacos and they were not anything special. The tacos were not filled with much fish and they were quite messy to eat. The rice was basic and meh. My daughter ordered the enchiladas and she liked them. I just don't know how anyone could rate (any location) Seafood Shack less than five stars. In a seafood starved city like Dallas, this Gringo has found seafood nirvana! Their seafood is just, fabulous! Fresh and tasty whether fried or not. With fabulous service to match, my personal favorites are the shrimp tostados or the shrimp and octopus cocktail. The octopus melts in your mouth. I like to order either with extra avocado. I love sitting at the bar. the girls always take great care to make sure I'm happy. Went for the first time this evening for dinner. There was a line out of the front! Luckily we got a seat at the bar and got served almost immediately. We started with shrimp flautas, which were amazing. Then we went on to the caldo de pescado, which didn't disappoint either. Service was friendly & fast - especially for how busy they were. I was so excited to eat here because, well, seafood. From the moment we walked in I had second thoughts. It was the vibes in the place. Apparently people didn't think this white girl could speak Spanish. Wrong. We ordered at the counter and sat down. 10 minutes later we are brought guacamole and chips. I dug in. The chip was fresh and crispy and the guacamole quite tasty. And then it was yanked off the table and taken to the table next to us. Apparently my mom hadn't ordered guacamole. (My bad ) When they brought our chips and salsa 10 minutes later the chips were stale and nasty. We nibbles on those for the next 30 minutes. Our food forgotten. My mother finally received her shrimp tostada (which was warm shrimp salad with miracle whip) and after waiting 45 minutes and going up and asking where my food was, I received a flavorless fish taco and white rice. The one star is for so many reasons. We watched people walk in, order, sit down and be served. They FINISHED their meals and left before we even received our first dish. The chips were stale when they obviously had fresh ones available. The food was nasty. The conversation going on when they thought I wasn't fluent. Just so disappointed on so many levels. read more

Seafood Shack is a casual, family friendly seafood restaurant in west Dallas that specializes in shrimp cocktails, fried seafood, and ceviche. Its offerings are very similar to what you would get at Aw/Big Shucks. We ended up on here on a Friday during Lent looking for seafood, and we uncovered very tasty shack. My Overall Rating - 3 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - It's truly a shack....with a drive through! The restaurant is quite small, and there are covered parking spaces that lead right up to the building. Although you'd think they should convert this to outdoor seating to add space. There's a tight bar area and tables within. These are definitely meant to be communal tables. Things get busy during Lenten season too. 1/2 Star. Service - There are two registers: one for new orders and one for return orders. The new order line was consistently long, and I never saw anyone reorder. I wish they would just use both registers for orders to clear up the line. Like I said, it's small and things can get tight. The staff, however, do a great job clearing tables, so as soon as someone leaves a table is ready. During the time we were there, there was ALWAYS a line, but I didn't see anyone have to wait for a table. Then again, that may be why only one register is open - to allow tables to clear. Not sure how the drive in service works but I'm sure I'll check it one day. 1/2 Stars. Food - To my surprise, the seafood was very good. I'll start with the shrimp cocktail. First of all, a medium order is served in a HUGE glass goblet. The shrimp are big (for a cocktail) and there were generous portions of avocado. Hands down better than the Aw/Big Shuck versions. As a bonus, it's served with two tostadas that hold up better and taste better than crackers. Their fried catfish basket came with a regular tarter and another tartar sauce that was a little like the In-N-Out secret sauce. It was great, and so were the fries. The hush puppies were good, not great. I would have liked a crispier outside, but they're small cylinder shaped to make dipping easier. Finally, our steamed "Cajun" platter had tons of shrimp, crab, & corn. It was a beautiful plate. Again, the shrimp here is excellent, and I did like their sauce as well. They have tons more on the menu, but our dinner samplings were all great. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes! Seafood Shack is very close to me, so now I have a superb alternative to the 'Shucks restaurants. If it were a bit bigger/not as cramped with the line it would easily be 4 or 5 stars. However, Seafood Shack will no doubt get my repeat business. They excel with the "Seafood" but at the end of the day are still a "Shack". 1 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. Thursday dinners include musical accompaniment from a gee-tar player. This resulted in a fun and lively environment! He sang songs and one of the largest tables there knew the words, so they just sang right along. Nearly every table here had a drink or two and it was a fantastic mix of people. White, hispanic, black AND asian! (ok, so the asian was just me) We got some of the thursday special shrimp tostadas, stuffed jalapenos, and I got a fried combo seafood basket. (Don't judge, we all have our measuring sticks) While the stuffed peppers tasted fine, I do think they looked unappealing. The bacon was super dark, and the shrimp tails were left on, which after being cooked, made them sorta look like bug legs. Ceviche was good with some added lime juice. My basket consisted of a catfish fillet, 4 fried shrimp, and a side of fries. The fries had a slight dusting of cajun spices or the like on them. The basket also had a special tarter sauce that also had cajun type seasoning. Remoulade-esque? House cocktail sauce was good with a smokey tang. The fillet was thin but well fried, basic cornmeal batter going. A heavy dusting of that fry seasoning could have been appreciated on the fish. Oh well, hell-o tapatio! I enjoyed my dinner with such a lively environment, but my dining partner did not. He said it was too loud and he's had better ceviche. (He totally pulled the "my mom makes better..." card) I think he was probably just tired and cranky. SOMEONE needs a nap. read more

A few days ago my boyfriend's dad was eating take out food from here and I had a bite of his shrimp flauta. I immediately made plans to make it here. Then I read all the yelp reviews (yep, all of them) and started to panic a bit. But we came anyway because that one bite I had was that good. Unlike what everyone said, parking wasn't a challenge and we walked right up to the counter and ordered at 6:30 pm. I read all the reviews about your order being wrong since everyone behind the counter is Mexican and decided to put that to the test. My boyfriend is from Mexico and I had him go first and order his food. He ordered in Spanish, but he does that wherever we go if he sees a fellow Latino. Then I got up and ordered separately. The girl was just as kind and just as efficient, she was just speaking to me in my language instead of his. And wen our order came? Everything was correct. And it makes my heart ache that do many of the negative reviews on here are just racist comments about how Mexicans should learn English. I ordered the flautas and they were worth our crazy long drive. It freaked me out that the shrimp is cooked in the tortilla with the tail still on, but tails are edible technically so I just continued to eat. My boyfriend had the large shrimp cocktail and it was huge. It tasted good and had generous amounts of avocado. The only problem with it was that they only give you a few tortilla chips and once you're out there's still a ton of cocktail left to drink like a soup. We had the fried mushrooms. They were my least favorite part. They were obviously cooked to order since they were so hot, but one bite would take the entire mushroom out and then you're left with just a hunk of bread. I love bread but I wanted mushroom in every bite. We also had the shrimp and bacon jalapeños. I wanted the shrimp and crab ones, but for the same price you can get the bacon ones and get 3 more to an order than the crabs. They were good, but watch out for the little toothpicks left after the cooking! I really liked this place. Our service was fine. We waited a little for our food, but the average time I would wait at any restaurant. Our entrees were both delicious. I want to come back and try the crab boil on Wednesday nights. Had a great lunch at the Seafood Shack today. Not a lot of money has been spent on the interior of the Seafood Shack. It is not that kind of place. The dining room and decor is functional - not fashionable. But the food is good! And when you go for lunch- you are going to be surrounded by all sorts of people who know it. People in suits, people in work boots and jeans, people waiting to meet other people, older retired couples, business people, college people- you will see it all! I am a real estate investor and I'm flipping a home in the area. Everyone that comes to work on this home has been so excited to go there! This is an "order at the counter, take a number and find a seat" place. They have all kinds of seafood: Grilled, Fried, and some great lunch specials as well! I ordered the grilled Talapia because it was my first time and I didn't know there were lunch specials and when I ordered from off the main menu, no one offered to let me know that there were lunch specials....(Next time I will get a lunch special...) Anyhow- I ordered the grilled talapia with veggies. It came with white rice and a sriracha type hot sauce. I also ordered the fried mushrooms just for funzies. The fried mushrooms were just what they should be- mushrooms surrounded with a thick batter and deep fried. Probably not very healthy, but hey- I ordered the grilled Talapia, so I could splurge, right? The talapia was fresh, spiced very well and grilled to perfection. The veggies were very fresh and not overcooked, which is refreshing. I am so happy to find this place and will definately be back. Probably tomorrow :). read more

Some friends and I went to Seafood Shack on a rainy Wednesday night. I got to the place first and there was a steady stream of people. I noticed the majority of the customers were drinking margaritas and eating the boiling pot special of either 1lb shrimp, crab, or both. One of my friends got the crab cake entree. She said it was really good. I want to try it next time. My other friend and I both got the special of 1lb. steamed crab, potatoes, and corn on the cob. Then that pile of good is topped with cajun seasoning. After we were finished eating we had some beers then I saw the special with crab & shrimp being delivered to another table... Came here with a friend for lunch. The place was kinda full. We ordered the crab leg boil and the shrimp boil along with a mango margarita and some other drink. I got my meal within 15 minutes, the crab legs. After waiting about another 30 minutes, the shrimp boil never came out. My friend went back up to the register and asked about his food and the cashier said he forgot to add it to our order. So he placed his order again, paid, and waited another 15 minutes for it to come out. Total of 45 minutes for his meal...a lot of wasted time. The food was decent, nothing spectacular. Talk about a hole in the wall! We came here to eat dinner before a movie at the nearby cinemark. There was so many people at dinner time! Like at one point, there was a line to order. Apparently on mondays, they have fish or shrimp ceviche tostadas for $5 which you get 2! I got the fish and it was pretty good! My boyfriend got the 6 pc jumbo shrimp which came with lots of fries and 2 hushpuppies. It looked pretty good as well but I only tried the fries, oops. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail which is good but I didn't like the texture of the peeled shrimp. Other than that, it was pretty good. All the cold food made me cold so be prepared for that! Especially if you get cold easily. I think cocktail sauce, silverware, lemons, and the drink machine is all by the counter so don't forget to get your items! Ordered the oysters, shrimp and crab leg boil, and shrimp cocktail. The only negative is the shrimp cocktail was on the sweet side which I didn't care for (I love my spice). They are very busy on Friday evenings during Lent but food always comes out quickly and they do their best to move you into a table quickly (pre-covid) or get your food out to your car (now). Call ahead to pickup food rather than sitting in drive-thru. At the NW Hwy location, the jalapeno margarita is so tasty - just the right amount of heat to cut the tart. read more

This was our first time here and we were a little concerned with what the place looked like (old DQ) but, we went ahead and dined in. It was full with several cars in the drive-thru. You walk in and order at the counter, then they give you a table number and you sit and they bring it to you. Each table is sectioned off with partition plexiglass due to COVID which is awesome. We received our food within probably 10 mins or less. We ordered the shrimp poboy sandwich and the combination seafood platter. Both were very good and the portion size was great. What a surprise. This little shack that looks like it used to be a Dairy Queen is out of this world. I ordered the shrimp Flautas and they were perfection. The shrimp was perfectly cook and the Flautas were nice and crispy and not greasy at all. They are served with a very fresh and crunchy cold slaw. We also ordered the Fried Pulpo OMG!
