We had a great visit on a recent Saturday evening. The restaurant is large, open and bright with a big bar area and plenty of space--great for large parties. It gets very busy in the evenings, so plan accordingly. The menu has an extensive selection of Mexican classics including a large seafood section. We split the parrillada mixta (listed for one but easily feeds two), and it was excellent. The steak, chicken, shrimp, and sausage were all cooked well and flavorful. The rice and beans were solid sides. The salsa was great, and our server kindly brought out a spicier version for us, which was very tasty. Service overall was terrific! Only downside: the chips were a bit mediocre. We will certainly return! read more

Ambiance rising point there was dj and then some karaoke! Waitress and host both friendly and helped us picking out our drinks. Shared the molcajete and was very good. Only bad side to it is comes with 3 tortillas, so the rest you have to eat alone. Good portions on drinks and food! read more

Food was great, the service was quick and the location was very clean. It was my first time here and I had a great experience. The menu had a vast variety of items to choose from. The squash soup was amazing, the spaghetti habanero lived up to the hype and the churros were a perfect way to end the meal. Overall I would recommend this spot and come back again! read more

I really wanted to like this place because you can tell the owners put a lot into making it beautiful inside, but its almost like I wish they would have put that much effort and love into what they are serving. My husband and I stopped in for lunch during the week. The service was amazing, but the food was borderline mediocre. We ordered queso and it tasted like they had just poured it from a can, microwaved it, threw some green onions on top and brought it out. Nice place, huge inside and nowhere near being filled to capacity. Staff was nice, food came out fairly quickly. Unfortunately the flavors just weren't there. Stopped by for a Margarita before joining a group at a nearby Asian buffet since I had an hour to spare. Margaritas were good and offered as a happy hour special. The food on the menu looks really good, so I'll come back for that. One thing I found impressive was the salsa for the chips. It's more of a southeastern style that is pure red chili (Arul, I was told, very flavorful!!) without being loaded with tomatoes and chopped up cilantro and onions as so many TexMex places feature. I've been looking for a place that does "real" salsa without being pico de gallo (tomato, onion, cilantro, and water). The salsa here is all red chili sauce much like is used with Huevos Rancheros in New Mexico. The food on the menu looks more continental Mexican than TexMex, so if you like that (unusal for Dallas) then check this place out. Interior is upscale but still relatively casual with a large seating capacity so they should be able to handle a veritable stampede. Great date spot as the service is good and the food looks really good! I'm sorry to be meeting friends at a Chinese dive buffet tonight versus eating here, but I'm coming back soon to try their food. It is NOT TexMex. If that is what you're looking for there is an El Fenix within a mile of here that can accommodate you. I'll give an update in a few weeks on the entree options because I will get my diner group to come here soon. read more

We visited on Valentine's Day, everyone was so friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is so nice, great music. Food was amazing, fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the tres leches chocolate cake, so yum. Definitely worth the trip to Dallas. read more

I stopped by for a quick breakfast and was impressed with the great job done renovating this former Golden Coral. They created a cozy ambiance that will be good for family and friends gatherings. So we decided to check out this newly opened restaurant where the old Golden Corral used to be located. Upon enering facility, we were greeted by friendly hostesses and met our party at our designated table. We were acknowledged promptly by our server who took our drink order. There were bowls of chips and warm salsa. The restaurant was completely made over, which offered a cavernous dining room, and a huge bar as wel, with large screen TVs throughout the space. The chairs were pretty to look at, but uncomfortable to sit in. There was a live DJ playing loud thumping club music, which made it hard to have a conversation without having to yell. The food we ordered was brought out promptly, and it was disappointing to say the least. I ordered the Camarines Al Mojo de Ajo, and the shrimp were not the jumbo ones I was expecting for a $20.00 dish, and my partner's Chili Relleno had what it seemed like store bought grilled chicken cubes instead of authentic Mexican seasoned shredded chicken. The Diet Coke I ordered was flat, so I changed it to an iced tea. The server was polite and welcoming, but the loud music and average food won't make me want to visit again. read more

We were excited for a new restaurant in our 'hood, but the food here needs help. The salsa is good and spicy, but the queso tastes chalky and maybe from a can. We ordered skinny margs, which were sweet and potent; the Molcatete came blazingly hot, but the chicken, chorizo and chicken were all dry. The ambience is open and modern, but reminicent of the Golden Corral which previously occupied the space. We will try it for breakfast some time, but might just be a good spot for cocktails while watching sports at the bar. read more

We won't be coming back to it. It's very beautiful inside, but owners did not put the same effort into their food. It's overpriced imo, a plate of two tacos is $32 because it comes with beans and rice. Ridiculous in my opinion. We got a parrillada for two, asked for corn tortillas and a hibiscus water. The service was a mess, the serve gave me flour tortillas instead of corn, and he brought the wrong drink to the table. Never came back to check or asked if we needed refills. Couldn't bother to write down the entire tables orders, which is probably why he got almost everything wrong. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Food is not worth the price. read more

After multiple visits for HH, we were informed today that you have to REQUEST HH pricing even if you order drinks during HH (3-6p). Also got burned on "a la carte" orders - it's not enough to ask for just two enchiladas, no rice, no beans - you have to SAY "a la carte" and make sure they understand you otherwise, they'll charge you full price. Great Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. It opened this year and it's huge. Food and drinks are excellent. I normally have heartburn after eating at restaurants that use vegetable oils but we've been three times and no digestive issues whatsoever. Had mole, parrillada, huarache al pastor, jalapeños wrapped in bacon, nachos etc. The salsa is a little spicy - for me just right. Full huge bar and great margaritas. So we went to Mr. Habanero tonight to try a new Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood. It is a big restaurant maybe seats 75 to 100 people there were maybe 15 or 20 people dining tonight. We sat at the bar, and had great margaritas from the bartender. When we ordered dinner it took awhile to get our food, the restaurant was not busy. My Huarache came out first but it took 20 minutes for my husband to get his Guisado. Then my dinner was cold. So I asked for it to be heated. 15 minutes later after I ate some of his Guisado my meal came back out. I told them to box it up because we had been there for more than an hour without food. The food was pretty good but the service was terrible. They wanted to give us free margaritas to take home. I said why don't you just comp our margaritas instead which they didn't. The food was pretty good but the service was absolutely terrible I will never go back. This was not the bartender's fault at all but management. If you want to run a service oriented business you need good managers. I would not recommend this place as it was at 10% capacity and they still screwed up. read more

I'll start by saying that around this part of Dallas, we were excited to see a new restaurant going in where the old Golden Corral used to be. It took quite a while for it to open but when it did and we went in for the first time, it was very impressive. Modern, open, a stage area at one end for the weekend live music and a large bar area with multiple tv's at the other end. That being said, I have personally come here 3 times and my friend twice. I've come back to give this place an opportunity to get up and going which by now they have and yet still I leave the place thinking 1) it's overpriced and 2) the food is fine but nothing special that would keep me coming back. In the three visits I've made I've had the combination fajitas and the enchiladas. Of the two, at least the fajitas are plentiful and while the beef has twice been tough, the chicken is tender and a bit more flavorful. The rice is good and though the menu mentions refried beans, it is actually black beans. My friend has gotten the guisado puerco both times. It's a much smaller portion than most places give for this dish. The first time he got it which was the first day they opened, it was actually more plentiful and plenty of sauce. This past week, it was an obvious smaller portion and not much sauce and dry looking. The enchiladas are a nice size but the chili has an odd flavor. I can't figure it out but it tastes like a combination of maybe guajillo pureed peppers and a can chili. Service can be slow at times and they use a very small bowl of chips as well as for their salsa which is served warm. With a name like Mr. Habanero, you would expect the salsa and dishes to have a kick to them but everything is sort of ok, good but not memorable. I've tried multiple times to love this place but just am not that impressed. read more

Beautiful restaurant. Very upscale decor. Food was less than mediocre. We were served a very small portion of chips & a small dish of salsa. Salsa was more like Heinz ketchup. Not spicey at all. No other salsa was available. Service was also mediocre. Our waiter came back to our table 5 or 10 minutes after taking our order & asked to take our order again. We said he had already taken it (he hadn't turned it in). After food was brought out by another employee our waiter never came back again. We Ordered the Chilie Rellenos, which were as bland as the salsa. We only ate a small portion of the dish. Probably won't go back again. Sad. read more

I was so excited when I saw a new Mexican place was opening up close to our house! My husband and I got the chips and queso, salsa, cheese enchiladas, and caramones encremados. We placed a to go order and were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. When we went to pick it up, the inside of the restaurant looked super nice. I'd like to preface by saying we arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes after placing the order, and only live 3 minutes away. So when the food was ice cold, I was super disappointed. The chips were mediocre (I prefer a thinner chip), the salsa was fine, and the queso tasted exactly like the jarred Tostitos from the store. I consider myself a cheese enchilada connoisseur, and these were some of the worst I've had. $18 for three SMALL enchiladas barely filled with cheese and topped with chili that tastes like Texas bbq was such a disappointment. My husband did enjoy his caramones encremados thankfully. Overall, we will not be back and will stick to Holy Frioles in Richardson. read more
