The location is amazing. Right next to Miramar Inn restaurant one of our faves! The view was great. We found it by a last minute deal for half off. But so glad we didn't pay the full price for over 400.00 a night. It was a bit run down and needs a lot of work. Fireplace wasn't working and was rusty. Bathroom fan was loud and not working. Mold and rust as you will see in photos. Food in main lobby but just snack type which is fine. The person running it said there would be coffee in the morning but not the case. Check-in: was a post-it note with my name on it, banker clipped to room keys and a note with the room identification written on it. No people! No bell hop! In the room: The door to the room, on the inside, was missing paint in several spots creating an impression of little or no maintenance. The bathroom door would not close because of the broken tile floor, the tiles had sharp edges that were raised above the adjacent tiles creating a cutting edge. This condition continued into the room. The light above the sink (3 bulb fixture) but only 2 working bulbs. The jetted tub did not pump water. The shower has a rain head but so much pressure that the streams were painful to the skin and no grab bars in the shower stall ( only available in the Handicapped accessible unit). The interior door knob in the bathroom strikes the wall creating broken paint and wall board The exhaust fan was terribly loud. Common area of the room has several loose tiles. The gas fireplace decorative trim around the fire box opening was missing, but fireplace did work. The desk had two chairs that the seat and back surface of each was so deteriorated that it flaked off on to clothing. The doors to the closet would not close all the way. This is a corner ocean view room with a small balcony, I don't think the balcony chairs and table had by cleaned anytime recently. A pair of old worn out binoculars were furnished with the room. There was fresh breads, bagels, rolls, lunch meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs and coffee, teas plus other beverages for the free breakfast ( serve yourself) This is a $345 per night room. Bad reviews for this place are real. TL;DR -Dogs allowed, but not welcome -Super rude receptionist lady -Dusty knickknacks everywhere. Feels gross. I had a similar experience to "Rebecca D" below. Upon entering, I was confused by the messiness of the hotel. It was gross and I wasn't sure if I was in the right place. When I got to the second floor, I noticed a messy-beyond-belief receptionist area. The actual receptionist was not sitting there, but was chilling in the lobby. After some very uncomfortable detail clarification between her and I, I made the mistake of asking where I could buy sandals and she belittled me for it, "What are you going to do with sandals the way the tide is?" "You don't know the way the north coast tide works huh?" I replied "I guess not". I was very offended by her rudeness. She then looked down out the window and saw my husband walking our dog in and LITERALLY groaned. "Aw you have a dog..." I was shocked. Our reservation was made with our dog clearly mentioned. She then went in to brag about how this place is the only one that allows dogs in Half Moon Bay. (?????) Later during our stay, I had asked for a fan to use, and while she wiped the dust off of it in front of me (yuck), she explained to me that "sometimes it's better to travel without a dog, you know. The stress of it all-" I stopped listening. This hotel should not be allowing dogs if it's going to make ppl feel bad for bringing them. Lastly, our room smelled like gas the whole time. I was afraid of asking the horrible lady because I'd had enough rudeness. In addition, the metal furnishings were all rusted, even the locks on the balcony door and the window. The furniture on the balcony was horrendous. Just everything was bad except the view, but I'd trade that for a better (and cleaner) time. So disappointed. I never write reviews but I'm still bummed on this place. After I checked in I was told I was the only guest there! King ocean view first week in October. This after seeing it looked booked full (and awesome) online. The owner (not wearing a mask btw) happily took my $660 for two nights. I felt totally ripped off. I should have asked for an upgrade but figured the room would be amazing based on reviews/photos online. And then I was shown my crappy room, right off the junky lobby where later I would see plates of cheese sit out from 8:15am - 11:30am. The room was small, old, dirty, and painted bright ugly mint green. There were two random seashells glued to the wall, a blood or red dripping stain on the patio door from the inside. The fan in the bathroom was filthy. Rips in the sheets. Dead bugs on the floor. Paint chips on the walls. And then I could not find anyone to help me there three different times - nobody around for hours - I even left a voicemail and she did not call me back. Found her sitting in lobby and then she was rude. I was concerned the rooms are right off the lobby which is open to the street 24/7. I wondered if she locked the door to the lobby at night (especially if she was MIA.) She basically laughed in my face and kept being rude to me the rest of my stay! I get it - you are trying to stay open during these times so maybe you don't have as many resources to keep it up. But I work hard for my money too and had saved up for what I thought would be an amazing getaway. Plus don't be rude to the guests! I'll never go back there. Super romantic hotel literally across from the beach. Every room has an ocean view. Our hotel had a fireplace and cute balcony to "people watch" or enjoy the ocean breeze. Downstairs has complementary s-mores and a fireplace. I saw that you can check out bikes but we brought our own. The trail is outside the hotel and you are next door to restaurants and coffee. We had a similar experience to "Rebecca D" and "Debbie" below. We travel the coast and stay mostly at B&B's. This was our anniversary trip and we had stayed here when Mr. Landis was the owner. He lived in the upper 3rd floor and had an extensive wine collection. When we arrived I asked if the new owners lived on the 3rd floor. She replied "no one live here" The lobby looked like it was a garage sale with just crap and loads of snack items for sale that must have been out there for a year. Arriving at the door there was a sign posted with the numbers to enter into the locking door. That was strange! Yet when I pushed the door before entering any numbers it just opened. Not very secure!! We came back around 9:30 after dinner and found a gentleman wandering around in the lobby attempting to contact someone via his cell phone. I asked him if I could help him as he looked perplexed. He said " I have just arrived here from shooting a video production of indigenous people in Northern California and had stayed here before and I'm trying to reach the Inn management to see if I could stay here again." I told him that we had the same issue when trying to book or reach the proprietor running this establishment. All of a sudden she appears (she was sleeping in one of the rooms) The gentleman said he was looking for a place to stay and her reply was (It's not all about the money) what a weird response to a potential customer. This is a very charming, family owned hotel that feels like home! The owner/hostess is very nice and welcoming. If you're looking for spa treatments, roses and chocolates in bed, Michelin 4 star breakfasts, etc...forget it! Go to the local spa, the Ritz or a nearby resto. If you want a relaxing time in HMB enjoying the sounds of waves in a comfortable room that feels like home, the Oceanfront Hotel is the place for you! Here's my take on the amenities and facilities: Breakfast - Simple, no frills continental or European breakfast. Fresh bagels, fruits, coffee (good quality), teas, oatmeal, cereal, hard-boiled eggs and yogurt. Basically, as advertised when you book. The items served were fresh, nicely presented, and prepared early so ready when you wake up. Happy Hour - Various bottles of wine were open and glasses were available all day. So, it was Happy Hour all day! We brought our own bottles, but it's always nice to have options!! Location - Miramar Beach Restaurant is right next door and other are within walking distance from many great places to eat (Sam's, Barbara's Fish Trap, Half Moon Bay Brewery, etc.). The beach is literally right next to the rooms and you can sleep/wake-up to crashing waves. Ahhhhhhhh......... Bathroom - The bathrooms have great counter space to spread out your toiletries...kinda like home! The shower is roomie and there's a jacuzzi in the rooms if your legs need a massage after a day of walking/hiking. The tiled floors are heated and they provide all the essentials (blow dryer, hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner). Clean, fluffy towels are always a plus. Bed - King sized bed was medium to firm. I have a bad back and didn't feel any ill effects after 2 nights on the bed. So, it must've been comfortable! They also offer many pillows of varying sizes and fluffiness. Cleanliness - The rooms were super clean! Customer Service - The hostess/owner, Anh (sp?), was great! I talked to her briefly before checking out and, from what I gathered, she genuinely wants anyone to visit to have a comfortable and relaxing time at her place. There aren't too many places where I'm completely at peace. Having never been to Half Moon Bay or NorCal, I had no expectations whatsoever. I've always shy'd away from B&B's because we generally like to be left alone. The Oceanfront Hotel is a true gem on a quiet street on the beach overlooking Half Moon Bay. The view was amazing, the rooms were extremely comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Check in and out couldn't have been easier. I am giving a 1 star only because the view of the ocean and the sound of the ocean is amazing from this Hotel and the bed was very comfortable . I wrote a glowing recommendation 12 years ago when the property was Landis Shores and it was clean and kept up. This place I stayed in is nothing like Landis Shores. I decided to extend a 2 day stay I had at a different inn and they had no rooms so I checked on the previously Landis Shores now called the Oceanfront Hotel. I should have wondered why they had vacancies when no one else did but I had my dog and needed a place that accepted dogs. I left a message on a voicemail and instead of calling back I got a text saying there was a room available. She quoted me a price of $270 and a $30 dog fee-that was for a king bed, fireplace and ocean view. She just asked when I would be there And didn't ask for credit card info or anything. (Red flag?) When I arrived I came up the elevator(a nice feature for me with my bad knee) and was shown a room and told that if I liked it I could have it. Hard to describe the demeanor of the owner-- like when I said I was from Santa Cruz she said " what like there's no where to hang out in Santa Cruz?". It took me a minute to react. She also quoted me $270 for the room and $50 dog fee which I disputed and she looked up her own text which said $30 dog fee (another red flag). Anyway-- as soon as I got to the "lobby" I felt like I was in my house with all the clutter, little schotzkys. Every inch of horizontal space was covered with stuff that didn't look freshly dusted by any means. Then the food was all set out on tables -- no protection from Covid in terms of being packaged or Anything-- open Costco size cans of nuts just out to be taken from, dried fruit in the bags they were bought, open jars of Nutella and various jams for communal use-there were lots more examples equally concerning to me. It is nice to have food for guests but a little more thought could go into how it is presented. It was simply overwhelming how the "lobby" looked like a convenience store in some ways and like someone's home kitchen in others when it was not a home kitchen and pandemic precautions are REAL. I agreed to the room but never looked at it well until I was moved in. It was grossly uncared for . I will attach pictures of filthy upholstered chairs, broken down rusted chairs on the balcony, wood table peeling paint also on the balcony, filthy drapes, rusted curtain rods and table in the room, a desk that looked like it was seriously got at a garage sale with an actual file cabinet attached -- it was not an elegant well cared for room thst cost me more than $300 to occupy. There were full size hand wash and other toiletries--not little single use bottles or the dispenser kind there are in some hotels like in the shower. The towels were thin and not soft. The refrigerator in the bathroom had food left in it for I have no idea how long but it grossed me out because if the housekeeper missed that what else did they miss. There was one picture on the wall in the room and then two random shells pinned (yes I said pinned ) on the wall very high. It was just strange. The bed was very comfy and I slept great with the sound of the ocean all night. I don't like to post bad reviews but I was seriously disappointed and needed to share with other possible customers. Just look at the outside-- two boats that look like they are being stored not like they are decorative in nature. Old bikes that are rusted and OLD. Etc etc etc Landis Shores was everything I said it was in my 12 year old review that popped up first on Yelp when I did look up the hotel. The Oceanfront Hotel is not anything like that-it is dirty, messy, cluttered, funky(not in a fun classic way)and the owner is abrupt snd I heard her be just for right rude to another guest do I knew it wasn't just me. Think twice before booking a room here. So many nice places to stay in Princeton, Miramar snd Half Moon Bay-- choose one of them. read more

This hotel is definitely in the great location, that's the only thing good about this hotel, that is why I even give it 2 stars just for the view. If you are conferenced about the COVID impact, don't go to this hotel, the front desk lady doesn't wear mask, nor any social distancing and masks wearing enforced in the common area, such as the lobby area where guests come and go, some times in groups. When we were there over the weekend, there was a huge bday party with many screaming kids, so noisy at all times, especially after 10 pm. We were there for peace and quiet, and the manager lady did absolutely nothing about it either. The room and balcony are dirty as well. Don't touch the rail before you clean it yourself. You can see the dirt/dust on the bathroom vent, which is disgusting. There are a couple of other hotels right next to this one and have the similar ocean view rooms. I suggest you pick other hotels over this one, especially during this pandemic times. read more

Absolutely loved this place. I was looking for a pretty, quiet spot overlooking the ocean with a fireplace and the Oceanfront delivered all that and more. It was a very last minute trip between Christmas and New Years and living in San Jose, I wanted to go away for a couple days somewhere along the coast. The first night we were in a room with a view along the side of the property, not directly facing the ocean. It was still a pretty view, but not quite the same. Even so, the hotel was very unassuming and quiet. Exactly what I wanted! The second night, we noticed a few rooms had checked out so we asked Anne (who I will get back to later) if we could move to a room directly facing the water and she said it was no problem. We happily moved our things and relaxed on the patio watching the sunset, listening to music. It was just beautiful and so relaxing. After the sun went down, it was great to leave the window open and cozy up inside with the fireplace and the big bed. We loved the fact that they have DVDs to borrow and watch in the room. It's an old fashioned place in a lot of ways, but that's something I really loved about it. And I was enjoying it so much, that I ended up extending my stay one more night which was so easy with Anne. And Anne, the manager of the hotel, is lovely. She helped us check in and was incredibly friendly. The breakfast she served that was included with the room was great. Lovely pastries, juice, bagels, toast, coffee, tea. A very nice spread. I will definitely go back here again and again. It's a beautiful, peaceful little spot that is run extremely well and makes you feel even more welcome. read more

I absolutely loved this hotel. I came here on a "momcation" to spend a couple of days for myself. The location is amazing, literally right on the beach. I was in awe when I walked in my room and felt the ocean breeze, seeing nothing but sand and water as I looked out the window and stood on the balcony. I stayed in an Ocean view King Room. The room was really nice and included a deep soaking jacuzzi tub a stand alone shower. I loved that I could see the sand and water so clearly even while lounging in bed. Waking up to a view like this and listening to the waves everyday is something I can get used to. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. They offer complimentary wine, coffee, tea, soda, water, and snacks available 24/7. Right next door is the Miramar Beach Restaurant which has really good food and outdoor seating. I really enjoyed my stay and I will definitely be back to to stay at this hotel. I was skeptical about booking because I had saw some negative reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the room looked exactly like the pictures online. Specifically the Pebble Beach suite was absolutely gorgeous! The views from my room were breathtaking and it was so nice to sleep and wake up to them and the sound of the waves crashing. As soon as I entered the room the first thing that caught my eyes were the views to the ocean and in that moment a sense of tranquility washed over me. The room offered every amenity necessary to create a well balanced atmosphere. The room came equipped with a nice size bed, patio with a table and chairs overlooking the ocean, large windows, a fireplace, television, writing desk, mini fridge, jet jacuzzi tub, separate shower and a well lit vanity. To top all of that off you are literally walking distance to the beach! If you wanted to you could literally eat at the Miramar Beach Restaurant next door and not have to drive your car at all while staying here. The hotel itself is also a short driving distance to many other great restaurants and locations. My stay was relatively quiet and peaceful. Ann was a great host and kept the outside area stocked with tea's, coffee, wine and and assortment of treats. She was also very nice and inviting offering small conversation. Check in time is officially 2p, we arrived at 1p, were able to check in quickly. We had an incredible ocean view from our clean spacious room; not just from the private balcony with a bench seat, but from the bed itself! Nothing like a king size firm mattress, listening to the sounds of the ocean before you go to sleep, and when you wake. Large bathroom with separate jacuzzi tub and large stand alone shower. Complementary wine, coffee, tea, soda, water, and snacks available 24/7. Elevator is available if you don't want to take the stairs. Plenty of private parking for hotel guests. Beautiful wide sandy beach right across the street from the hotel. Dog friendly restaurant next-door with outside seating, excellent service, outstanding menu with plenty of fresh seafood offerings. A year ago, my husband and I came to Half Moon Bay from Idaho after attending a remembrance ceremony of a recently deceased friend near San Francisco. Annie is the newest owner, thus we don't recognize any of the negative comments posted and credit them to the past owner. When we called at about 9pm, Annie answered. We got there at about midnight, though. Annie runs the hotel mostly by herself and had thus gone to bed. She told us a secured spot to find the hidden key and how to easily find the room. No problem for us. We appreciated her not making us wait, as we were exhausted. The room was lovely and the bed comfortable. No amenities were missing. There was a big jetted tub, beautiful working fireplace and a balcony overlooking the ocean. In the morning we were greeted with fresh coffee in the lobby, muffins, fresh fruit, cheezes, tea, hot chocolate, wine and more. Annie is a national treasure, with a fascinating past we were fortunate enough to be privy to. We have the Oceanfront Hotel on our list of places to go back to. If you are not a stickler for corporate hotels focused on bu$iness only, and impersonal experiences, then Oceanfront Hotel is the place to go. read more

This is the perfect place if your looking for a relaxing place to stay. This place has a warm cozy feeling. The rooms balcony opens up to a beautiful ocean view. You fall asleep to the sound of the Ocean Waves. The floors in the rooms are heated, the room has a fireplace, DVD player and refrigerator. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub which is very relaxing and romantic. The room is stocked with full size toiletries and the fridge is restocked daily with water bottles. The Inn provides a continental breakfast in the morning and wine and cheese in the evening. The Inn has board games available and DVD's as well. This place is well worth the money. My husband booked this hotel literally the night before at 10pm on a last min spontaneous birthday overnight stay for the next day. During Covid times my bday plans were derailed and with not being able to travel this was what we did instead. We got an ocean view room and oh man was it one heck of a view! I read the other reviews about the hotel being dated but given its not a chain I'm not surprised. The location is right across the street from the beach which is so convenient for us and our dog. The lobby area has a variety of snacks and ice cream on a trust system where you pay for it in a jar on the counter or if you don't have cash then you can tell the lady (who may be the owner) and she can add it to your invoice. Continental breakfast was toast, boiled eggs, dried meats, cheeses, fruit, and variety of spreads. I'm not super comfortable eating at a buffet during Covid especially since I've seen numerous guests in the public area sans masks. read more

We just returned home from our stay, and we loved the experience! The trip was a surprise, as I had just been proposed to by my boyfriend and he had this weekend escape planned to celebrate. We stayed in the Champagne room, the only room that allows dogs. When we arrived, we received a lovely tour by the innkeeper, and went in to our room. The first thing that we saw were the beautiful roses, the champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries. What a treat! There was also a nice basket with treats and such for my dog. That always makes me happy. The room was very comfortable. I agree with some reviews that the decor could use updating, but that is minor. The breakfast each morning was yummy, and the wine hour was very fun. The staff was exceptionally friendly, they do a wonderful job of making you feel at home. All-in-all, this was such a wonderful place to relax and celebrate. We will be back! read more

We wanted to get away from the city and see, heart and smell (in a good way) the ocean. We found this place and love it. So much that we actually extended our stay. Luckily it is off season so they had a vacancy. The place is right on the sandy beach, you can get bikes from the hotel and ride either the coastal trail or the beach. Being the Pacific you get gorgeous sunsets over the ocean. This is more like a b&b, so you get personal attention, a huge, fresh breakfast, coffee and tea all day and possibly fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. The Oceanfront Hotel - Wine at sunset! - Hotels Near Me - Half Moon Bay, California

We were looking for a local "destination" wedding and decided on Half Moon Bay. We had the ceremony at the Hastings House garden (also reviewed), and the reception at the Oceanfront Hotel (a block down the beach). We booked most of the rooms for our guests, a modest group of 16, and had the reception in the penthouse. The hotel is literally 50 feet from the beach. The rooms were quite nice, with beautiful water views. The penthouse was spectacular, with a large, professional grade kitchen off to the side, and a deck overlooking the waves on the beach. The proprietor, Anne, was incredibly helpful through the whole process, even loaning us bikes to ride around the area during the day. We brought in Chef Olintho (also reviewed) to cater the event. Awesome ! I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Oceanfront Hotel for a short getaway or an event for up to 20 people in the penthouse. I've uploaded a few pictures of our event. read more

The lady at this place was so accommodating! I didn't have reservations so I called and they had one room available! I found it pretty easily and was nicely surprised to find it was oceanfront! It had a huge bathroom, heated floors and a fireplace! Also the bed had a memory foam mattress and was sooooo comfortable! There were all kinds of fruit and other items to eat in the lobby area. There was a freezer with ice cream treats you could by which was a nice treat later! read more

Location location location - right on ocean. Waves crashing all night long That is the good part. It is run down reminds me of a place in Singapore. Filled with plants and random furniture - our room had a king bed and an odd assortment of 4 tables, three chairs a desk all jumbled together nothing matching -- like a flea market find pile. A plastic chair on the patio was so uncomfortable. The lounge/ kitchen area is a mishmash of uncomfortable couches and chairs. It's a shrine to poor taste and randomness. It could be so nice if cleaned properly and junk taken out. The spa tubs don't work, chips on paint. Very down at the heels. It is sliding down and few will pay the prices for such a dump even on the ocean. Rent a cottage instead read more

What an awesome weekend getaway! This place is right on the beach. You hear waves crashing all night long, which makes me sleep like a baby. The restaurant next door was really good! Great place to take walks and just rest your body. Friendly staff...rooms were nice and quiet. Fireplace was a nice touch. 3 days there felt like a week....I am glad I came. read more

This charming little hotel is a hidden treasure! We took an overnight trip during the pandemic because we had to get out of the house and away from the heat, the Oceanfront was just the answer! First off, location, location, location! Right on the beach, every room has private balcony, fire place and jetted tub! The rooms are impeccably clean, I mean spotless, and the lobby is charming, welcoming and unassuming! Staff was very hospitable, we will be returning, soon! read more

Worst Hotel experience. Broken widow that wouldn't shut. Dirty sheets and old food left on the stove in the Master suite. It was very negligent for covid times. Terrible customer service by the owner Ann when i asked for clean sheet she responded aggressively told me they didn't have anymore . when I ask for the Wi-Fi password she rudely answered . She also invaded our space by barging into our hotel room to finally give us two blankets that were dirty! she made us feel very uncomfortable,an due to her unprofessionalism and bad hospitality we left the hotel that day!. Very poor management, unhygienic. Hotel prices for motel amenities! the only thing that save this place is the view! Doesn't even deserve one star! read more
