We had another repairman out in the past that stated he didn't know what the problem was and thus couldn't bill us. We then called Affordable Appliance Repair in Terre Haute. Before the serviceman even came out, my husband asked over the phone if he was qualified to work on GE refrigerators and he said yes. This serviceman was at our home for 2 hours stating he wasn't certain what was wrong but he "thinks it's the control board". He had no diagnostic tools and in particular, nothing to test the board, thus this was his assumption. He suggested we replace the board as he "thinks this is the problem" in which we replied that we are not going to pay to replace something under an assumption. He finally packs up and proceeds to write us a bill for $85 for not fixing a thing. I stated I would be agreeable to paying his gas to show up but he hasn't properly diagnosed or fixed anything. He the states - "well, I want to replace your board but you weren't agreeable so it's not my problem you don't want the item fixed". I pointed out that I could have assumed it was the computer board without calling him and ordered/installed it myself, but I thought I was calling somebody who said he was qualified to diagnose the issue to avoid spending money on unnecessary parts. His answer- well if I replaced the board and that's not the issue, I won't charge you a service call to try another option". To which I said- so you're not going to charge me another service call, but I will continue to pay your for parts until you find the right one ? He just shrugged at this point and continued to write his handwritten receipt charging us $85 for wasting our time and money and fixing nothing. Oh, and his moto on his fb and site is : If I can't repair it, you don't pay! Please go elsewhere for your repairs.

Had no insight on how to fix the…read moreissue and left within 25min with no resolution. 24hrs after no word 48hrs after no word 52hrs after I called and no answer 66hrs they called back with no resolution I've been without a washer for 3 extra days because they couldn't diagnose the issue. If you want to fix something, in a timely manner, don't expect it. At this hour they still have no resolution. Don't worry they will send an email to the manufacturer of the machine and not keep you updated. Maybe should have sent over a fax, used USPS, or a crow. Trash service.

The technician…read more(who I think is probably the owner) talked with me for a good 20 minutes, asking questions, suggesting I look at this or that, and generally getting a sense--and giving me a sense--of what the issue might be. He was clearly focused on fixing the problem. He gave me a worst case scenario and how much he thought it would cost to fix it (in which case, he said, he didn't think it would be worth fixing), but he also gave me several other possibilities, some of which I could do myself. This was all the more helpful since they're pretty busy at the moment and wouldn't be able to come to the house until next week (unless it was an emergency). Really impressive service. We may still need to replace the appliance, in which case, I'll ask these folks to do the work.

When the parts finally came, the technician was having problems with the installation. Finally he told me that even with the new parts, the washing machine and dryer probably wouldn't work. He went by and gave me a quote of 695 dollars to fix it. Said I had to pay in advance because he had to buy parts and there is no refund. So I paid him and when we initially talked he said about 2 weeks parts will be in and we'd be in touch. 2 weeks I reach out he said he hadn't heard anything yet. Month goes by I again reach out again says only half the parts have came in but he will check. 6 weeks goes by I reach out, just waiting on 1 valve he says. Then he ghosts me for months at a time says "I'm on vacation I'll check when I get back" 78 days after I paid him he says "Yes, I will be refunding your money back. Because I checked with the warehouse and they ordered the wrong parts. I apologize for all the delay in hassle you had to go through." I have requested through Venmo from him multiple times with no response. That was 14 days ago and he hasn't responded to any of my text. I have been very respectful and just want my money back for services not rendered.

So, I tried replacing both the upper and lower door seals. After a few days, the error came back. We contacted Corey's and were pleased with his quick reply and scheduling. Corey showed up on-time and even sent a text when he was on his way. The final repair took a few trips because of failed parts that needed to be orders. But, now we have a working dishwasher again! Corey's pricing was fair. And he was able to get the parts that we would have not been able to find in stock. We will definitely call on Corey's for future appliance repairs.

The technician, Dustin, thoughtfully called to let us know he was running a few minutes late, and he arrived exactly when predicted. He did a thorough inspection and magically got the oven working as it should again, without having to replace any parts. If he had been a less scrupulous and responsible professional, he could have charged us to replace a part unnecessarily. Instead, he left his contact info so we could let him know if the problem returned, with the plan to order the part then, and only then. Even though it was the end of the business day, he stayed longer to be sure the oven maintained its temperature correctly. Throughout, he was friendly and professional, a pleasure to work with. Although the business is located in Bloomington, they do calls in the Champaign-Urbana area for no extra charge. I'm putting BK Appliance Repair into my contacts now in case any other appliance issues come up.
