Sea Side Galley was recommended to me from the Cape Lookout staff for the best hush puppies. They were really good. I ordered the shrimp basket which was locally caught shrimp that was fried and came with the fries and hush puppies. You seat yourself at the restaurant if you are dining in or order at the counter for to go orders. There is a beautiful mural on the wall of Cape Lookout. My waitress was hustling as it was busy but very attentive too and made sure I had everything I needed and kept my iced tea filled. What more could I ask, good food and good service. Harkers Island doesn't have many dining options but this is a good choice if looking for somewhere to eat. They do offer more than seafood. read more

Sea Side is an all in one stop...get gas, shop in the nice store, get a snack or eat in the restaurant. There are booths and some tables that can seat larger parties. The menu is varied, but I came to the coast for seafood and one of the specials was oysters. It came with fries, but they let me sub coleslaw for it. The a good sized plate of oysters were very nicely done, not over cooked and nice flavor breading. The coleslaw is very thick and very good, a nice sized portion. It came with several hush puppies as well. Sweet tea was very good here and was offered both a refill and some to go. They have lots of desserts, but I did not try any. The service was good, friendly and helpful. The food came out fast and hot. Not a fancy place, but good food and nice servers. I liked Sea Side better than the other place to eat on the Island. The waitress mentioned the seafood buffet and I looked over and said to myself what the heck - looks good - ill try it. There were a few items that I wasn't sure what they were but they were so good! This was the unexpected highlight of a last minute trip to Harker's Island to purchase a collection of antique vacuum cleaners. If I return, it will be to eat here again. All of it was fantastic; not too greasy. My fish was seasoned properly and their house sauces complimented everything very well. The service was nice, also. Our server had a "aunty" feel to her, and she had no issue juggling tables, take out orders, and new customers. After my dinner, I wanted to try something sweet, so I opted for the lemon pie, which, by the way, was completely scratch and light and fluffy. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but it doesn't have to. The food speaks for itself. I will be coming back! read more

I have to express how terribly disappointed I am with the service at this place. Over the years I've regularly ordered weekly from here due to the fact we only have a handful of restaurants downeast. My orders are correct less than half of the time but I keep trying. A week ago, they failed to put in my phone order so after sitting in the drive thru, was told it would be another 30 mins but was offered a free dessert. Fifty mins later. The girl comes out with my food. 5 mins later at the house, I see no dessert and, yep... Another incorrect order. A call back and they halfway apologize. They did offer to put a credit in for me. Today, I call and attempt to use the credit. Guess what... They screwed that up too. I'm done with this place. The food is decent to good, but don't expect to get what you ordered. read more

Seafood combo 4 was the best ever with shrimp, oysters, scallops and flounder fresh and perfectly fried with homemade tarter sauce and tea that is always sweet! The homemade clam chowder is a must! We choose okra and yams for sides and we're not disappointed! The only thing better than the food is the laid back atmosphere and Susan our waitress and local lore expert. Will be back again and will also get more lemon milk pie which I almost did not want to mention for fear it may be all gone the next time we come back which will hopefully not be too long! This is one of the best hidden secrets in the Crystal Coast. It's a good 40 minute drive from Morehead City, but there are lots of pretty sites to see along the way. I love the drive to Harker's Island because you can see water on both sides of the road. If you drive to Seaside for dinner, you may be able to catch a gorgeous sunset on the way there. Seaside definitely delivers fresh Crystal Coast seafood. If I were to choose any Carteret County restaurant for the best shrimp burger, Seaside would be it. Their homemade tartar sauce is well made and tangy, much like at the Sanitary. Seaside is connected to a gas station, and normally food and fuel don't mix. I get a little sketched out when I see gas station eateries. It certainly doesn't evoke feelings of good sanitation and good food, but Seaside is an exception to that rule. You barely even notice the gas station once you're inside. While you order and pay at the counter, they do have a full waitstaff. The sides are good too. I recommend the hush puppies. read more

We love, love, love Sea Side. We visit HI at least once a year and I have every year since I was born. There are few options on the island so we have eaten at all of them and always wonder why we didn't just get food from Sea Side. The local shrimp with okra and hush puppies for $11.99 is awesome but so is the pizza...yep pizza. When you have been in the water all day a good slice is where it is at! The ranch dressing is also amazing! They have really good dessert and you can call in and drive thru if you don't want to get out of the car! It is our go to for at least one if not two meals a week when I don't want to cook nor do I want to drive. read more

Not very good. We decided to take a little drive over to Harkers island from Atlantic Beach one morning for breakfast. Based on Yelp reviews we stopped here. The waitress was nice, the place was clean, the food could have been served in a school cafeteria. It was one of those meals that leaves you wishing you could go somewhere else and try again, but you can't because you've already ingested the calories. Had visitors from Dallas and took a ride Down East to Harkers Island. We had seen the ads in the News-Times so we decided to try it out and it was quite a nice surprise. Best place for seafood in the area! Can't beat the fresh local seafood. I had the fresh bluefish and it was amazing. So hot, crispy and delicious. HIGHLY recommend! After eating at every restaurant on the island this is by far the best. It's the only place who has local seafood caught right in the waters of the bridge you cross to get to the restaurant. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. My server was named Abigail and she went out of her way to make sure I was taken care of. When my meal was over I feasted on some homemade pie which was also the best I've ever had. When I visit the island again I'm not eating at any other place.
