    First floor, line for buffet

We had wonderful weather and the Hudson corridor is gorgeous this time of year. Didn't realize our outing was truly on a ferry. About 200 people were on the boat. Had to line up for the buffet (in between rows of other passengers) which was served by a very hard working man and woman. Drinks including coffee, tea, and water were at the bar which was inconvenient. The bartenders did not want to be there. Non-alcohol drinks should be at a separate area, maybe closer to the buffet. The narration was super informative, even for a native NYer. The rest of the boat staff were helpful and nice. My friends and I boarded at Pier 11/Wall Street and all of the banquettes were already occupied (the ferry originates in NJ). It seems pricey for what it was, but there was a substantial staff and you can't put a price on spending quality time with friends.

My husband and I went on the fall foliage brunch cruise up the Hudson River. The weather was perfect for a beautiful fall day. Our bubbly effervescent tour guide was Heidi. Heidi said she was a maritime captain and informed us of maritime points of interest including the little red lighthouse and fire boat used for the evacuation during 9/11. She took photos of the guests and even organized a birthday line dance! Heidi also spoke about the Hudson River and how important it was to the growth of New York as a maritime center. Heidi was funny and informative! Heidi pointed out the best spots to take photos. I have a photo beneath the span of the Mario Cuomo Bridge (see photos below) that looks like it belongs in a magazine! Being on a cruise with Heidi is a joy!

The ferry is just next to the beach. Good service. Get Manhattan in 40 mins. One way ticket is $28. Yea it's expensive

My husband and I took the Sea Streak today for the fall foliage 6 hour tour. Purchased tix online in advance. Boarded fast and left on time. Best part is the fall foliage. You also go under a few bridges, pass the always impressive statue of liberty and the nyc skyline. Great pictures to take and just relaxing. There is a tour guide speaking but he was hard to hear on top deck. We stayed on the top deck most of the time and it was definitely the loudest area as there was a big birthday party group too. It can be windy and cold so dress warm! The indoor lower floors are quieter and clean and if you want to hear the guide..stay on the lower floor.. Bathrooms were clean but two were out of paper towels. We had hot choco and tea from bar. Nothing special. No other food or snacks at bar except hot dogs so little disappointing but you can bring your own which I did but would have liked some options. Overall they did explain mask rules. Wear it indoors and ok to remove when eating or drinking. People don't always like to follow rules but hey that is not sea streaks fault. their staff was fine. Mostly polite. There was a small fire on a piling at the dock in Atlantic highlands when we returned but it did not hold us up from docking too long. The crew handled it seriously. Overall great views and experience. Just go prepared.

This picture sums up perfectly the general asshattery that rides the ferry daily.

We arrived before boarding and immediately realized the boat was extremely hot during an active heat wave. As hundreds of passengers boarded, there were no announcements explaining what was going on. Passengers kept asking crew members, but the only response we heard was, "They're working on it." At 5:53 p.m., while we were still docked, my husband emailed Seastreak to report the conditions. At 5:58 p.m., I called customer service hoping to find out what our options were. I was simply told it "might be cooler once the boat started moving." That was the only assistance offered. The most frustrating part wasn't the heat--it was the complete lack of communication. No one explained the situation, no updates were provided, no complimentary bottled water was offered despite the extreme temperatures, and there was no apology or acknowledgment onboard. After the cruise, I contacted Seastreak requesting a refund. Their response stated that only the second deck's air conditioning was affected and that the first deck's system was working. If that's true, why weren't passengers told? Why weren't announcements made? Why wasn't customer service able to tell me that when I called before departure? I replied with those questions, but my follow-up email was never answered. The fireworks themselves were beautiful, and later in the evening it was more comfortable outside once the sun went down. However, for a premium-priced holiday cruise, I expected far better communication and customer service. Mechanical issues can happen. Ignoring your customers and failing to communicate shouldn't.

When passengers arrived at the scheduled time not one employee informed passengers that one of the ferry's air conditioning was broken. So the entire inside closed cabin was a hotbox, so I'm told. I arrived, got my ticket scanned and then learned about the situation. The air conditioned ferry was fully loaded with people who escaped the broken a c ferry, and the staff was herding newcomers onto the broken a c ferry screaming hurry up we have to take off. I turned around and drove home. I'm now in the process of trying to get my money back for I trip I didn't take but my ticket was scanned, so they are giving me grief. Apparently the ferry air conditioning had been broken for days, yet SEASTREAK chose to herd unsuspecting passengers onto a potentially hazardous situation. Shameful, bad business

She greeted and was very friendly. As it turns out, we were the only people on this particular tour, as it was a Saturday and most of these tours occur on Sunday. She keeps you involved as she is always showing you something interesting and explaining facts about it. She is definitely engaged with the people in her tour. We did a good amount of walking and saw many things. She also explained how people lived during those times. One interesting fact was that apartments on the higher floors were less expensive than those on the lower floors, which is completely opposite today, where apartments on the higher floors are much more expensive. When explained that there was no running water and baths required that water be brought up to the apartment, which was a chore. Also, everyone generally shared the same water because they didn't want to schlep the water multiple times. We went into the Tenement Museum, which was interesting. We went into several restaurants and shops My favorite was Yonah Schimmels Knishs, where we bought about 10 of them. In retrospect this was a mistake because they weighed about 12 pounds and we had to carry them. The tour was about 2 hours or so. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Leslie was very engaging and made the tour move quickly. She is very knowledgeable and I would highly recommend any tours that she gives. We plan on going back to take another in the near future

I have to say that I'm pretty critical of boat brokers, I've been boating my whole life, have a good handle on what I'm looking at, what my needs are and all of that. With that said, I have little patience with brokers that do not know what they are talking about; many don't of course. However, meeting Mike I have to say that he was great to deal with. Mike was fair, honest, motivated and responsive. If I reached out he was quick to respond. Mike was a straight shooter and didn't BS me. I'm old and have been around for a long time and can typically pick up on the BS fairly quick. Mike was easy to deal with and his office staff (Nicolette) was just as great to deal with as well. I have no complaints with these guys, they were a big help and I appreciate it. Here is one example of Mike's dedication, on a Sunday, not too long ago, Mike flew in from vacation, got in his car and drove straight from the airport to meet up with me so that I could see the boat for the first time that I eventually bought. That told me right there that he was dedicated to his work. Nice to see that still exists. Thanks again Mike and Nicolette! Kerry H

One of these opportunities includes The New York Adventure Club, a tour company that in typical times hosts in-person "adventures" around New York. I love the idea of a group of citizen experts showing off all the awesome things in their city. In normal times, it looks like they tour museums, historical sites and lots of hidden "secrets" around the city. I've always been interested in the arts and history of New York and have really enjoyed hoping on these virtual experiences. So far, I've attended two virtual events, "The Secrets of TriBeCa: Lofts, Artists, & Alleyways" led by Gardiner and "The Famous Gilded Age Balls that Forever Changed NYC" led by Kristen. I would easily attend more. I was really impressed with the breadth of knowledge of these guides, and how much time, energy and thought was put into the research and assembly of these webinars. In particular, Gardiner grew up in TriBeCa and had such a personal spin to his entire virtual event, which was super cool. For a $10 ticket to these online events, you're getting so much more in value. I'm so pleasantly thrilled with the type of content they offer and will definitely be attending more of these in the future. If you live outside of NYC, definitely consider hopping on one of these fantastic events and learning something new! Love this cool business.

I attended a Brunch Classics cooking class at Essex Market on Saturday, August 13, 2022 organized…read moreby New York Adventure Club and was stunned that even though this was an indoor event with approximately 12 people sitting ultra-closely side by side around a prep island, that the class leader, Chef Jon Lovitch was permitted to actively discourage mask wearing among the participants during his opening remarks. His reasoning was that in eating some of the dishes he would be preparing, we would get "cinnamon and sugar all over our mouths," and therefore he emphasized we should NOT wear a mask throughout the class since the CDC had recently relaxed those guidelines, and "we should all be getting back to normal." It was obvious that I was the only mask wearer and that I would continue to wear my mask in response, so he turned to me in front of everyone and asked if I was OK with everyone else not wearing a mask, essentially trying to pressure me into removing mine. I resisted the combination of both public peer pressure and mask-shaming and did not remove it except to eat and then I kept those moments ultra-brief. I'm a breast cancer survivor and have to be extra careful at indoor events where people are seated in close proximity to one another and are not wearing masks. In other instances of ultra-poor planning by the New York Adventure Club, It should be noted that no napkins were provided together with the food-sampling plates and forks, which was curious as either purposeful or an oversight given the heavy-duty negative pressure not to wear masks from the class leader; that the elevator to the floor with the demo kitchen where the class was being held was turned off to that floor so that someone in a wheelchair could not even reach the class at all; that only two of the four recipes were printed out and those were only distributed at the end of the class, preventing someone from taking notes on the recipes in real time as with most well-run cooking classes; and that when I tried to speak to the group's owner, Corey William Schneider, who was in attendance at the class at all times, he brushed me off completely and told me to only give him feedback at the end of the class (he was busy taking photos throughout but otherwise remained completely silent). In short, I can't recommend any of this group's in-person events, because there is not a sufficient emphasis on protecting the health and well-being of participants, and if you read their other Yelp reviews, you'll see that many of their events actually end up getting cancelled. I also believe they may be violating the Americans With Disabilities Act with some of their lack of organization and socially irresponsible messaging. So if you have any kind of health condition or are disabled, please be very careful about attending any of this group's in-person events. And if you attend any of their cooking classes with Chef Jon Lovitch, you should be prepared to resist concerted pressure to remove your mask if you are someone who typically wears one at indoor events where you're sitting side by side with a lot of other people who aren't mask wearers. Each person has to decide about mask wearing for themselves now, but I don't think the New York Adventure Club should be actively supporting not wearing masks in close quarters, or they risk litigation should someone becomes ill as a result.
