As this was our first experience in the raising of chickens from chicks, we trusted the experienced staff to pick six females from the Plymouth chicken stock they had on hand. In Seattle, it is illegal to have a rooster, much less two of them, and understandably why, as their crowing at 3 am, 6am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and sometimes, 9pm, both of them at the same time if not one right after the other. It has become intolerable. I paid for six hens and I would like to trade anybody who wants a rooster(s) for a hen, our roosters are well fed and well developed, and horny. But more importantly, I would like this business to make right their mistake. I have called and left my number

I've purchased odds and ends here for my horse for a couple years and was looking forward to switching my annual hay delivery to them (4 tons). I used the "request a quote" on their web page. No response. After waiting a few days I called for price and was told they have 2022 timothy for $29/bale. When I showed up I was informed it was 2 string not 3 string, but don't worry because the bales are 90 lbs and I would get 20 in a ton. (20 x 90 = 1800, not 2000, but I digress). I bought four bales to see if my mare likes it. Success! But immediately upon unloading them I knew they weren't 90 lbs. I normally buy 3 tie so I know exactly what that weight feels like. These I could pick up with very little effort. I cracked out my scale and weighed all four bales. Spot-on 75lbs every single one of them which is pretty standard for a 2 string bale. Hmm...75lbs x 20 bales = 1500 lbs. That's 3/4 ton for $580. For a full ton I'd need 26 bales which = $750. I sent a nicey-nice email via their web submit form thinking that there was some kind of miscommunication or honest mistake - also that it would be easier for someone to respond in their own time than be bothered with the phone. No response. In the meantime, my mare has eaten an entire bale in 3.5 days. 90 pounds...are you kidding me? The horse doesn't lie and neither does the scale. Two days later I called to have a nicey-nice chat to clarify the numbers before I ordered four ton (assuming there was some kind of misunderstanding). Dan got REALLY defensive REALLY fast. He said the 20 bales x 90lbs = 1800 lbs pounds which is basically the same thing as a ton. He said it's 1800 lbs because I get a $1/bale discount for the ton price. Gosh, that's a great discount if I get 10% off for getting 10% less. WTF? When I brought up the 75lb weight of the 90lb bales they sold me, Dan's response was that they sell hay by the bale, not by weight, because they don't have a scale. Kind of weird of them not to verify the weight of the product they are buying wholesale for retail, yes? Dan...you LITERALLY sell hay by the weight. You point-blank tell people the price is $28 for a 90 pound bale. But you're not selling 90 pounds. You're selling 75 lbs. And when it's brought to your attention your excuse is that you "don't have a scale". I know this place is friendly and has lots of stuff for pet owners/weekenders. But for a major purchase of $2.5k hay, Iron Horse is not happening for me. They would have shorted me $600 worth (one ton) of hay. Super, super sketchy.

They know native plants vs. non-natives, what weeds are most important to tackle, etc. * If you don't have a perfect idea of what you're looking to do with your garden, they will take the time to talk with you and walk you through that process. If it's been a while since you last asked them to come by but you don't know what to ask that they do, you can just say "Help!" and they'll do a great job. * They are very respectful when it comes to working with a specific budget and never try to upsell services. * Stefany and the crew are respectful, considerate, and just plain good people. I get a ton of compliments on my garden. I was out getting my mail the other day and two people were walking down the sidewalk and I saw one of them point to my yard and say to their friend "I wish I had a garden like that!" Have to say, it's mostly due to Stefany and the crew's work over the last five years or so!

Throughout our brief relationship, I tried to give these guys the benefit of the doubt, but simple questions were met with the aggressive attitude you see below. Mine is not the only review to indicate this level of unprofessional behavior following service that was incomplete. I definitely do not make a habit of negative reviews (this would be my first and only to date), but I did want to do my best to provide what I feel to be a fair recap of my experience with Essential Gardeners in case any others find it of use. I certainly wish I had paid more attention to the review that was so similar to my experience. I stand by my one star review. I acknowledge that some work was done and therefor did not go down a path of "if I could give no stars..." However there is no part of me that could recommend this company to another.

I walked in here with no planned intention but ended up buying an entire DOOA glass and light setup. it's definitely not cheap (~$300 for the set I bought. just glass, metal arm, light, 2 rocks) but what made it worth it is the fact that Adam from this shop was SO kind and beyond helpful. he gave suggestions and advice on what I would need to get my setup working properly, down to the type of substrate for certain plants. when I was picking out a few rocks for my glass, Adam had such an aesthetic eye for which one would look nice in the environment. I'm typically so picky about achieving a certain look for tank builds, but the two rocks Adam pointed out I immediately loved and got (they even have a sand dojo area for you to play around with layout). He sees the vision and helps you execute. This type of expertise and willingness to help is absolutely what lead me to buy an entire setup on a whim! But truly, cares for your build like he would his own and he doesn't try to *sell* you anything, rather he wants the plant to thrive in the environment created, and he's happy to give advice and his time to bring you to success. I went to Keppler looking for pine pellets to use as kitty litter. At first I didn't know where to…read morepark so I just backed my vehicle up to the pellets and went into the office. I bought 8 bags and it came out to about $75. This is a REALLY GOOD price. Chewy charges almost $22 for one bag the same size. The customer service was top notch. I just told the employee what I wanted, she rung me up and came out to help me load my car. I really appreciated the help because those 40lb bags can get so heavy. Overall it was a great experience and I'll be back when I need more pellets.
