This place sucks. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so. Customer service, don't expect it there. They will gruff at you and try to make you feel stupid for having a computer problem in the first place. The guys who work there all look pretty creepy on top of that. Long story short, had a laptop that needed to get fixed, THEY broke it, told me that the laptop was broken and tried to give me a in store credit of $50 and a gift certificate for $200. Granted my laptop wasn't worth a whole lot, but this is after they somehow justified charging me $300 to "fix" it. THIS PLACE STINKS. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LAPTOP HERE IF YOU WISH TO GET IT FIXED IN A TIMELY AND ORDERLY AND FRIENDLY FASHION. If you like getting screwed for your money, take your laptop here, they do that well. read more

I had a terrible experience with Seattle Laptop 2 years ago. My laptop screen died and some of the keys started to come loose. They told me it would take 2 weeks and about $200 to fix the screen, and they would fix the keyboard free of charge. Sounded reasonable enough. 15 days later, I hadn't heard a word from them. I called them and asked what was up and they said it still wasn't ready. Another week went by and they finally called me and told me it was ready. Imagine my surprise when my bill came to $350...and my keyboard wasn't fixed. For my next laptop, I'm buying a warranty. read more

I generally don't write reviews but you need to know about this place. At least my experience. I have a relatively new Dell Inspiron. I accidentally dropped it and it landed on the power cord where it goes into the jack. Following that my battery wouldn't charge. Stuck at 7%. I should also mention that it had a broken USB port (my fault). So I took it to Seattle Laptop. Following examination by a tech, I was told that the power jack and the USB port were on one card which was not the main board. They said replacing the card should fix both problems. When I came in to pick it up, I was billed immediately and THEN given an opportunity to examine my machine. To my surprise it still had the same message "plugged in, Battery not charging (7%)". Nothing had been done. The attendant told me to leave it with them and they would fix it. Wasn't that what they were supposed to have done? So I decided that I was done with them and walked. When I got home I noticed that the USB port was also still in the same condition. They billed me $130 and didn't do anything. Integrity? Nope. Bad review? Yup. I spent five hundred dollars for a refurbished computer and within one week the battery died and then a week after that I started getting a blue screen when I turned the computer on and then the computer was unresponsive until I repeatedly closed and opened the laptop. I had a disastrous accident and thought I needed my whole Macbook keyboard replaced. I called Seattle Laptop and they were so helpful from the very start! They ended up finding that there was no internal harm done and they were able to only replace the keys that were damaged, which ended up costing about half what the full keyboard replacement would have been. I blame myself partly for the problem, in that I did not have them sign for the accessories I left with the laptop. I left the entire case, including an extra battery, and auxilliary diskette reader, and the power cord. They gave me back only the laptop. They insisted that I did not leave anything else, not even the power cord. Finally, after a week of bugging them and insisting, they gave me a power cord. These cords are unique to each computer - why would they think they would even accept a laptop without its power cord? Of course, I never did get my diskette reader back. I went in because this was an old laptop that needed a new CMOS battery. They gave me an estimate of $40. The first time I went back, a few days later, they didn't have it done. I went back a week later, and it cost over $100. I was told they would call me if the charge was much more than about $40. They had a lot of used laptops for sale, but I thought they were all pretty pricey for being used. read more

I had brought my laptop by because it was having a rather major issue with the battery not working. Could have mailed it into the company and waited, but one never knows how those will turn out. They often ship it back with a quickfix or no fix... and you pay for shipping. So anyway, my laptop only needed the screws to be tightened (and a replacement screw) and these guys did that for free and my computer and its issue are fixed. I called Seattle Laptop just for a quote. My DC port on my laptop is broken. This has happened to 3 laptops before(I am a little hard oon my laptops), one 2 times when the toshiba people repaired it free underwarenty. I am familliar with the problem. I know 2 places in town that do this repair for under $100 but one is slow and couldnt remember the others name. So I thought Seattle laptop is near by I'll call for a quote. 1st they insist on all my info before talking to me, full name, phone number etc. 2nd I tell them the problem. The dc port is loose/broken. They want me to tell them the symptoms. Ummm... the computer wont charge and the port inside wiggles? They guy keeps asking questions like he's not even listening, I tell them I know the problem, is the port, I just want to know the cost for the repair. He said its usualy about $190 dollars and will take a few days maybe a week plus.... Wow my slow guy that I didnt call takes 2-3 days and its only $60 dollars.... Can you say rip off? I hve called around and found 4 other places that will cost less than $90 All only a few days. I would avoid this place. read more

Never. NEVER again!!! One star is too high of rating! I should have read all of the reviews, including the unauthorized ones hidden at the bottom. My local computer guy recommended that I take my wife's HP laptop to Seattle Laptop and have them replace the Bios Battery (about $3 to $5 part on ebay-look it up). He highly recommended Seattle Laptop. As I'd taken work laptops to them for years, I thought they'd do a good job. I knew it would be a long lead time, unless you want to pay the "jump the que" charge (pay more if you want them to provide priority service over other customers). Well, after weeks, Dan called to tell me that they'd installed the battery, but Windows 7 would no longer open! So, no operating system! No access to files. no Office, no nada !!! He told me that if I had the CD they would install it for a fee. But, they recommended that I do it myself. I told him that I didn't have the CD, so "now what? " He said that he would call me on Monday after testing it some more. On Tuesday, after receiving no call, I went in to pick up the laptop. No progress; I was told that the reason that Windows was gone was that "something must have happened".....no Shxt, Sherlock ! Then, I had to ask them to return the power cord as it was not in box. They scrounged around and found an HP power cord (When I got home, my wife said that this was not the power cord that we took to them!). To add insult to injury, they asked for the cardboard box back!!! Can't make that up!! It was like here's your computer we broke, don't bang your butt with the doorknob and, oh, we need the box back. No offer to make it right or even acknowledge their part, even after they broke my laptop!!!!! The only thing wrong with this laptop when I took it in, was that the date kept changing back to the default setting. Software- Windows 7, Office, EVERYTHING worked. Now, I can't even get Windows to Load. It says that the "drivers are disconnected" ???Good thing I backed up my files, huh? As this HP laptop sells for $150 on ebay, I decided to give up and not put any more money into it. The $80 +tax (minimum) I spent at Seattle Laptop to break my laptop was a TKO. I look upon this as tuition in the School of Crappy Customer Service! I went home. and ordered a newer, refurbished HP laptop from an authorized Microsoft Reseller on Ebay. They are nice enough people but that is the only good thing I can say. They take your information to update you on your computer but don't get to even looking at it for over a week and tell you its all good and fixed without any update in between. They take your computer and write down a bunch of notes when you check it in but don't actually work with it enough in store before they tell you its all working correctly. I ended up paying for someone to put Windows 10 on my laptop and was told it was fine. It still works terribly and paying $60 for someone to push download is a waste of money. read more

I went to Seattle Laptop in order to save some data from my computer. I agreed to pay the extra charge for a three day turn around. Five days later I received a phone call that my computer was ready. When I went in to pick it up I learned that they had not even attempted to recover my data and had simply reinstalled Windows, permanently erasing everything! After several mediocre purchasing experiences with Seattle Laptop, my most recent visit was the worst consumer experience I have EVER had at any business. In short -- The owner of this business clearly has no concept of customer service. A couple of months back I took the specs of a laptop that needed a battery to the shop and the employee sold me a battery that he insisted would work with it. I said several times that I didn't think it was the right one - showing him that it was labeled for a different model of laptop, that I was taking it overseas for work (where the laptop was) and wouldn't be able to replace it right away if it didn't fit. But he insisted - even going through the paces of appearing to look it up to verify that it would work. And of course... when I got overseas, it didn't fit the laptop. Two months later, returned to Seattle with said battery - unused, with receipt, and politely explained what happened. At first they said no, then offered 50% store credit (on a $110 brand new battery), at which point I politely asked to speak to the owner since they kept saying I should talk directly with him about it. This is where it got good... the owner came out and rolled his eyes at me, blew off my request, told me that his team would NEVER make the mistake to sell me the wrong battery so I must be lying, went on to tell me how as a consumer I couldn't possibly understand the technical side of this so it must have been my fault (I've been a computer programmer and technical consultant for 15 years, so I think I understand how a battery fits into a laptop), then proceeded to tell me that whatever I was doing for work in Africa must be exploiting people anyway and so I'm basically not a good person (I work in health informatics to improve patient care with HIV clinics)... all the while I stood there with my jaw dropped. He did eventually give me a full refund, but only after I told him I thought this was terrible customer service and made a point of telling him how frustrating my experience with his store was becoming. Then he had the gall to try and tell me about his NGO in microfinance and how he was so great. Give me a break. What a moron. Anyhow - ironic that he not only had to give me the money back, but in the end he also lost a customer and any business from the department at the institution that I work for. Could've had the same monetary loss and kept the customer if he had just been a decent businessman. read more

I have used Seattle Laptop for more than 10 years and have had a great customer service experience. While I wish that they were not so busy - sometimes I just don't want to spend a week without something that I use constantly - Seattle Laptop has always performed appropriate high-quality work for me. With computer consulting as a hobby I have helped more than 15 clients purchase re-furbished Thinkpad laptops from Seattle Computer. The prices for their "pre-owned" Thinkpads are most affordable and the staff's technical knowledge is excellent. One specific experience involved 3 different clients with HP Pavilion laptops who encountered motherboard failure problems. HP's solution for this global problem (after lots of arguing about missing the free repair deadline) was to swap the defective motherboard with a replacement unit that had yet to fail. Alternatively, Seattle Laptop looked at the root cause of the failure and acquired the tooling to perform the necessary repairs at half the cost from HP (properly re-soldiering the video controller chip to the motherboard was the permanent fix). Simply put - these guys are great!! read more

I bought a computer for university from Seattle Laptop in 2005 which worked well for 4 years. I went back this past summer (June 2009) to get a new one, as the old one was getting quite knackered and slow. I have had nothing but trouble with it since then. First, the wireless started cutting out. My brother-in-law, who works with computers, looked up the problem and saw the HP computers had an issue where bits of the motherboard were coming loose. I took it back into Seattle Laptop (quite a trek for me, as we were living a ways away). First they tried to convince me that it worked, because it worked when they plugged it in, but I showed them the error message my brother had saved and they explained it would likely need re-soldering and would be quite a big job. I left it with them under their speedy service (1-3 days). After a week, I hadn't heard anything from them, so I called up to check. They said they were currently working on it, and that it should be done that afternoon, and that it was a really big job they were doing so it was taking longer. I thought, okay, fair enough, they are resoldering the whole motherboard, that is a pretty big job. They phoned 4 days later and told me it was all finished (not exactly done the afternoon I'd called, really...). My mother went to pick the computer up for me, and when she asked for a run down of what they'd done, they said that they had just reinstalled a program and that the wireless was fine. My mom was confused and asked why they hadn't resoldered the computer as they said they would, and why it had then taken two weeks as opposed to three if they were only reinstalling a program. They said if there was a problem I could just bring it back, which I couldn't as I was leaving the country in a week's time. A month later, now in Europe, my computer's wireless goes completely dead. After a good deal of money trying to fix it, I had to get a wireless USB stick instead, which was a pain, but at least it worked. TODAY, however, my motherboard has just died completely. Less than a year after I bought the computer which was supposed to have been completely redone and fixed up, the whole thing dies. I am a student, very low on money, and cannot afford a new computer. I have already spent far too much time and money on this damn computer already that was supposed to be new and to work like a computer should. It should not have needed to be taken in for repairs over THREE times in 6 months. I will be contacting Seattle Laptop for a refund, and I would advise people to avoid this place in the future. read more

These guys are great. On a Sunday, I was trying to replace the battery in my laptop and it was one where you have to remove a bunch of screws to get to it. My puny fingers were not strong enough to remove all the screws and a couple of them got stripped in the process. I was panicking a little, because I had work to finish that afternoon on the laptop, so I couldn't wait till Monday. I called several companies I found on Yelp that were open on Sunday and one guy wanted to charge me $60 just to look at it! I took it to Seattle Laptop and they unscrewed the remaining screws, gave me a couple of new screws and helped me switch out the battery all at no charge. It barely took them any time at all, but I still really appreciated that they had compassion and helped me out of my predicament and didn't ask me to pay an outrageous price for such a quick fix, like the other company tried to. read more

My laptop touch pad 'mouse' control/left button could not be resurrected so I called Square Trade about my warranty and they approved the repairs by a local provider. Its not that easy to find laptop specialists when there are so many other more popular devices. I was pretty stressed - so I started out at "Richman Poorman Computers" on Everett Mall Way in Everett, Wa - The guy there was honest saying they just don't have the parts for laptops and don't guarantee any 'fix' since they would be used parts. I asked him if they had anybody they could recommend to me - and he enthusiastically referred me to Seattle Laptop near Greenlake on Aurora Ave (SR Hwy 99). The parking wasn't great which I wasn't prepared for but parked one block away so that worked out. (and I was able to park right next to the shop when I came to pick it up) The man greeted me very cordially and I quickly explained the problem and mentioned I'd watched several YouTube videos on how to go about fixing it but was too scared to take so much apart. I asked him if there was any way they could work on it today (still hoping it might be a simple fix). Their turn around time is 1-3 weeks but for an 'express' job (1-3 days) and $40 he could put it on the fast track. As others have mentioned these people are very unpretentious - the opposite of so many 'techies' out there - lovely energy there. I drove back towards Everett taking my time and browsing a bookstore when I got a call on my cell - my laptop had two problems, both fixed and ready to go!! The bill was very reasonable and my laptop is working perfectly now. They also did a light cleaning for no extra charge. I highly recommend this business and their excellent skills and laptop parts inventory. I will definitely return in the future even though it takes me almost an hour to get there. They have laptops for sale also for very reasonable prices. These guys are GREAT and I highly recommend them! read more

Yesterday, my 17" hp laptop died when the power connector shorted out and smoke and brief sparks flew! Since my entire business is conducted on this machine, I was desperate to get it repaired and back in operation as soon as possible, so I took it to Seattle Laptop this morning. While their usual repair turnaround is 7-10 days, they understood my situation, agreed to get it back in 1-3 days, or sooner. Even though I brought it in on a Saturday (when most businesses aren't even open) they got it repaired and ready for me the same day! What more could one ask for? In addition to repairing the power jack, they replaced a cracked screen frame, and improved the touch-pad responsiveness. I also appreciated the pleasant communications from their service rep, Don. These guys are busy! But good. Although it took 3-1/2 weeks instead of 2 to replace the hard drive on my laptop they made up for it with their excellent customer service. They were able to recover all of the information from my failed hard drive and I am happy to have my laptop back.
