This is Dan Wagoner. I am the owner of Seattle Laptop. I would like to address the issues on this page. In 11+ years of doing business we have serviced over 30,000 laptops. That is approximately 3000 repairs a year. Considering our volume, we have very few troubles. We only have 1 BBB complaint in the last 3 years. And if there is a problem, please don't hesitate to contact us, even if you are out of warranty. We will always give our previous customers a break on a repeat repair our of warranty. I understand people are upset with delays. We sometimes have trouble locating a part, or we may take in a large amount of repairs at once. We are currently looking for another service tech to help keep our repair turnaround down. Sometimes a customer has an issue that is very difficult to repair, such as the RAM socket problem on the Sony laptops. I remember the laptop that Dwight F had. We always test it verify the problem. In his case, the laptop did not exhibit the ram socket problem while initially testing, just the bad hard drive. RAM socket issues are VERY tough to repair (imagine soldering 400 pins that are a fraction of a millmeter apart). This is the only type of repair we have the customer authorize for labor attempting repair even if we are unable to fix it. We spent 3 hours on his machine trying to repair the ram sockets. In the end his sockets were damaged beyond repair. The pads that the sockets connect to were lifted off. We only charged him 2 hours labor in the end. Regarding Tim H: I reviewed our repair records and spoke with him today. We were unable to find a NEW part at a reasonable price (yes there were several companies selling used fans, but we were hoping to get a fan with a longer life span. Our supplier did not ship the fan in a timely manner (it took 2 weeks to show up). We replaced his fan with exactly the same part number that was on his original fan and it did work fine for several months. When he took his laptop apart later, and researched his model, he found there was a different one recommended for his CPU. His machine may have had the wrong fan to start with. We apologize for the delay initially diagnosing his system. Note that we only charged $49 for the part, and 1.5 hours labor total labor (including disassembly, reassembly and testing the system to be sure the cooling system worked). Even through he was out of warranty, we are sending him a check to cover his costs replacing the fan again. As far as the girl looking for laptops goes, we are sorry she did not receive the attention she should have that day. The person working the retail should have spent more time listening to her needs. We try not to speak in technical terms - she probably talked to one of the technicians, and they tend to assume people will get all they need to know by the numbers. We have been in business long enough that if we weren't taking care of our customers, we would not still be here. I've always been lazy when it comes to writing up a review for a great product or service, but I just can't be this time, because these guys really came thru for me. As a freelance software developer/consultant, My Laptop Is My Lifeblood, and when the CPU fan starting making noises, I feared the worst - right in the middle of a hectic schedule during which I just couldn't be without it for more than a few days - great. I called them and spoke to Gary, who's very knowledgeable and professional. He said it's probably not a big deal, they have a large stock of replacement parts (mine was a ThinkPad T60p) - it just depends on the type of fan mine has and do they have it in house or not. He said they had a 7-10 day queue, but offered express service for an additional $40. No doubt I was going that route! I brought it in first thing on a Sat morning (get there early!), and Gary was there, recognized my problem from the phone call, and offered to swap customers with another rep so he could work with me directly. Nice! Within minutes, the paperwork was done, told him I wanted express service, and he said they'd call me with an update. The night before, I copied all my work files to an external drive, so I could continue to work on an old Craptop while my ThinkPad was in for repair, for what would surely be at least 2-3 days. 3 HOURS LATER, Matthew, "The IBM Guy," called me to say that it was done, and that they cleaned the interior while they were in there, and that it looked and ran good as new! WHOA! And now that I have it back, it indeed runs just like before, super-quiet and super-fast. I have nothing but good things to say about these guys. And now you know. P.S. I also scored a battery off them for a great price, since mine was shot. read more

Unprofessional. Rip off. I knew exactly what the problem was with my computer. I did not need diagnostics, just a fix. They tell you that the job will cost a certain amount and then when your computer is taken apart and they have you over a barrel, they raise the price on you. If they would have told me that price at the beginning I would have never given them my computer. Let me explain how they work. This is what they did to me. I was on the fence to fix my computer or not. They quoted me a price that seemed reasonable but at the upper end of my budget. Once they got the computer, they called me and raised the price to a level that was out of my budget. And had I known that it would cost 250 at the beginning, i would have never left my computer there. So they misquoted me a price, and then when I found that unacceptable and told them not to fix it, they still wanted 45 dollars for a minimum service fee. Whereas if they would have been honest at the beginning and quoted me 250 dollars, I would not have had them fix my computer and not been out their "service fee." Basically, you can't trust their quoted price. Be careful with this place. They are sneaky and not up front to their customers. There are better places to go. Avoid going here. read more

On Thursday at 11 pm, I arrived at SeaTac with a shorted-out keyboard from spilling a drink on my T510 Thinkpad during the flight from Chicago. On the hard drive, I had just completed a Powerpoint presentation of 60 slides, which hadn't been backed up, which I was scheduled to make to a group of 50 in the Wells Fargo Building from 12 noon to 1 pm on Friday. I knew of Seattle Laptops, having gotten a good price on a computer from them several years ago, so I called when they opened at 10 am on Friday, to see if they could fix it, or put the hard drive in another computer, which I was willing to buy, in the next hour. They said they could. At 10:35 am, my cab arrived at 76th and Aurora. They replaced my keyboard with a keyboard from a T510 they had in stock, and, while my computer was open, recommended and installed an upgrade to fill an empty slot in my RAM with a $29 two-gig RAM card. It was $99 for the new keyboard plus a $40 charge for express service. Total express time was 30 minutes, and at 11:08 am I was riding back downtown in the cab, at 11:30, I was in the conference room in time to set up, half an hour before the presentation. I searched for over a month to replace my outdated motherboard. All I could find was overpriced bare-bones used units from china, priced over 300$. Yeah. Then, I found it with these guys, for half the price, WITH the processor, AND 6gb of ram with it! Arrived in a week, and is running cool and smooth. They even called me personally to let me know they recycled the heatsink/fan because they didn't trust it. I told them it didn't matter, and it didn't. From this transaction and communication alone, I will check them first from now on. I love you guys, you saved my rig, and made it better. I was up and gaming again today, and can't be any happier unless I was on drugs. Spoiler: I'm not. Even though I had to go to fry's and buy a new cooler, I'm glad they didn't send me the one that was sketchy, and personally called me (from Seattle, and I'm in Houston) the day I bought it to let me know, and the extra 6gb ram and spare processor is going to keep me gaming for longer than I hoped. You don't get that kind of personal service from the chain stores, and you aren't going to get that from China, either. They aren't just laptops, but I'd trust them enough to buy one from them. read more

I've purchased used computers and monitors from Seattle Laptop a number of times--it is hard to beat the low prices of used computers, and even if you need gaming-type performance, you're bound to find what you need given their large inventory and great help. I also recently dropped off a relatively new Dell Precision M4800 which has had freezing problems ever since I got it new. It is a known issue with this laptop, and Dell has not been much help. Dell claimed my warranty was void because I added another SSD. I had tried another laptop repair shop nearby, and after spending over $1000, the laptop was still useless due to frequent freezing. I'm an engineer with reasonable computer troubleshooting skills, but this issue really stumped me. Seattle Laptop (technician was Ryan) diligently worked the problem, keeping me informed all the way via texts and e-mail updates. Finally, after a year of issues, the laptop is now working normally. Was upgrading my mid-2010 MacBook Pro the other day, you know changed out the hard drive for an SSD and did the same with the superdrive. Saved what I thought was the easiest part of the job last - the RAM...and bam! I made a cardinal rookie mistake and didn't get the angle correct. So BAM that RAM is stuck! Maybe I could have gotten it loose, I don't know because at this point my lovely wife sees this look on my face. The look that says I done *&#$ed something up! So right then I made the decision to take it to these guys. I had seen the shop several times as my wife and I run to PCC or Green Lake so I looked you up on YELP and scanned the reviews. Anyways, as soon as we walked in we were welcomed, asked the problem, I gave pretty much the above answer and John, their "Mac Guy" comes out and within maybe two-seconds has my "problem" fixed free of charge. I brought my laptop today (8/10/16) because the "p" key was stuck, and my efforts to fix it had failed. I had already looked into fixing it myself, and the youtube videos demonstrated I'd have to completely strip everything, and get to the keyboard after gutting the machine, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to put it back together. The folks at Seattle Laptop looked at it, and immediately and accurately told me how difficult it would be to replace the keyboard, but then they spent several minutes working on the "p" key with a dental tool and got the keyboard working. They charged me nothing for their efforts, and got my laptop working. They are skilled, fair, and kind, and I will always bring any computer repair issues to them. read more

These guys saved me me today. I had removed a key on the keyboard to extract a seed (no more toast and email) and could not figure out how to get it working again. I contacted my IT department in San Francisco who said it was a very delicate operation with a 50/50 chance of requiring an all-new keyboard! Of course Lynnwood has no computer repair shops so I drove to Seattle to have them snap a key back onto the keyboard. These guys had it fixed in 10 minutes. And they didn't even charge me. My laptop died right before I was going on vacation. Two of my friends told me to take it to seattle laptop because they fix mother boards on laptops. I didn't think it was worth it but I tried them anyway. I wanted their faster service because I needed to know if they could fix it or if I had to get a new laptop. They called me back right before they closed the same day and said a part on the mother board burned up but they fixed it. It worked when I picked it up and it has been doing ok so far. I give them 5 stars because they got it done even faster than they said they would. I just hope it lasts for a while longer. read more

I was having dreadful monsterous slow old old dial up speeds with my VILE QWEST DSL ISP ! The SUMA CUM LAUDE chaps at SEATTLE LAPTOP got me up and running with CLEAR WIRE. It was slightly tricky but they walked me through the set up process. CLEAR WIRE is blazingly fast works with my VONAGE Voice over internet service and is a far better value than awful QWEST a true impossible QWES, SEATTLE LAP TOP also sold me a liller HP lap top and even burned me a copy of FIREFOX I can not express strongly enough their patience good nature and PROFESSIONALISM sincerely Diedrick von C read more

This is THE PLACE to get the help you need! This is the second time I have gone to these folks for help. This time my laptop was all but dead. I had no backup and thought that all my files were gone forever. The folks there agreed - no chance to get my data. THEN THE CALL came - "we tried again, located your files, and have been able to put your data onto the external hard drive" - when I went in to get the hard drive, there was no charge - just a jubilant smile on the technician's face. Went to add a second hard drive to my laptop. Was missing the 4 screws to secure HD to the bracket with no idea of the proper size, making it difficult to procure on-line. Could not find a local source. Called Seattle Laptop and he invited me to search through his bin of miscellaneous computer screws and keep the four I needed - no charge. I was also given an ESD bag to place the old mechanical HD. These may seem small gratuities but in my book these guys rock in their expression of customer support! read more

Seattle Laptop has consistently provided me with great service and I highly recommend them! My Laptop literally took a "CRASH" at the airport, falling and hitting the floor. Seattle Laptop took it in in the morning, they diagnosed the problem; called me promptly; I agreed with their recommendation and they fixed it within 5 hours. We have taken our laptop here a couple times. I've never felt taken advantage of and the communication has always been spot on. Just took the laptop in yesterday and the gentleman immediately took it and started trying to fix what was a minor issue. He gave it back at no charge. I tried to pay but he wouldn't accept anything. I have been buying Macs since 1984 and I've been to Seattle Laptop a few times over the last 20 years in a state of anxiety due to laptop snags that were coinciding with urgent deadlines. I've always been met, usually by Dan, with cool, calm competence, the solution to everything, and quite reasonable fees.
