The bins is an experience! Bring friends, gloves, hand sanitizer, and sense of humor. You can find amazing treasure provided you are attracted to the thrill of the hunt and will glow with pride over the insane bargain. I got some awesome shirts for less than 40 cents each and I wear them all the time! If you like upscale shopping, can't deal with dust or unpleasant smells, and don't enjoy hunting for random stuff (or don't enjoy the hilarity in all the crap you won't take home but will totally have a good laugh over), then avoid this place. There are always a ton of people in here no matter the time of day and it can be a little insane trying to find parking. Just be patient and avoid getting into a row with anyone who looks too crazy in there. Furniture can be an awesome deal there if you are into re-doing and repainting old stuff. read more

I LOVE This place! Like others have said, its not for everyone. If you hate sorting through racks of clothes at ross, you will definately Hate this place! I am a fan of treasure hunts and finding great trinkets to make new crafts out of! Everything is pay buy the pound so you can walk out with some sweet finds for only a couple bucks! I would recomend gloves and hand sanitizer because there is bits of glass and things at the bottom of these bins because basically everything gets thrown into a bin. I dont think they even sort, that is your job to find what you want, which is why it is so cheap! I have heard that everything that wasnt sold at the goodwill stores come here for a "second chance"! :) If you get a chance, at least check it out for the experience! read more

Creepy but great! When I was here I saw two people almost get into fisticuffs for jumping into a new bin early, and that was only some of the drama. I think people must come here to make a living by reselling the good stuff to other, more upscale thrift shops. (Think Buffalo, Red Light.) Anyway, two of my favorite shirts and dresses came from here! It's super cheap so even if you don't like what you end up with, there's not much shopper's remorse. read more

I usually have to wear a dust mask (reason why I can't give this five stars) since all the unsorted donations are in a similar condition to when they were given by donors,so this means looooots of DUST. This goodwill will be a mix of all kinds of smells - some cloth items might be musty or worse, others might have the scent of perfume of the original donor. Okay, I'll start off by saying that this place is both fun and scary! The Outlet is not like your typical Goodwill store with racks and shelves full of retail items. This is a place where all the items that did not sell in those stores come to meet their last chance at life. From there, everything in the bins, clothing for example, is squashed up into gigantic 100 lbs. cubes, shipped off to some unknown 3rd-world country and distributed to the impovershed masses. Electronics are sent to recycling, and the rest of the misc. items....no clue? Having said all that, the outlet is a bit fun if you're searching for super bargains on bulk clothing and such. I'm really not into all that used clothing items as many of the bins are just plain smelly and nasty. Honestly, who wants to buy a used t-shirt complete with sweat stains and holes?? If you are willing to dig through the mountains and mountains of unorganized clothing, you may just come across the proverbial "needle in the haystack" gem of a find (and yes, you seriously do need to be careful when digging through these bins as there are often needles, broken glass shards, etc...wear gloves!). You can get lucky sometimes and find that special something you never thought you would expect to find at an outlet location... which certainly makes it fun! I visited this outlet location for the first time with a friend, mostly out of sheer curiousity. We arrived a little later in the day, around noon-ish on a Saturday. There are various bins brought out each hour or so containing either clothing, electronics, toys, shoes, accessories, etc. If you look on the wall just below their upstairs office, you'll notice a board listing the times and types of bins they will be bringing out to the floor. The earlier you arrive the better, as it seems that towards later in the afternoon they only bring out bins full of linen items (bedsheets, blankets, curtains, bath towels, etc.) And for the scary part... as expected with a store selling extremely low-cost items, it will most-certainly attract its fair share of low-life people...homeless, crackheads, to name a few. Nothing against these folks, of course...but you do need to be a little mindful of the people around you as many of them appear downright shady! There are, however, a fair share of really great people there as well! A lot of shoppers are basically excited treasure hunters...digging to find something that tickles their fancy, while others seems to be eBay resellers looking to make an easy profit on bargain dssigner clothing finds. The funniest people of all are the crazy Shoe / Luggage folks made up mostly of Nigerian and Caribbean individuals who literally attack fresh bins of shoes or luggage...SERIOUSLY!! It's like absolute mayhem and chaos...almost apocolyptical proportions of shopping madness!! Apparently, from what an Outlet employee told me, these people buy the shoes for cheap, stuff them full into the luggages they find, then ship them off to their counterparts back home to sell. I guess shoes are a big thing in those parts?? Overall, a very quirky, eye-opening experience for a first-timer like me. I left with a few small trinkets to decorate both my shelves at home and desk at work. Was it worth it?...yes, the prices are fantastic! Would I do it again?...absolutely yes, but probably not often. This might as well be the eden for bargain-hunters. Bins of clothing and shoes and books and whatever are replenished hourly with potential treasures and amazing finds. And the best part of all is that everything is pay-per-pound--so you can walk out with bags full of items for under twenty bucks! I've found things like pairs of lucky-brand jeans and a tailored cheongsam that fit me perfectly! I love The Bins! Others have said, and I'll repeat, digging in the bins isn't for everyone, especially if you're whiny about dirt and grime. It makes regular Goodwill look like Nordstrom, but if you love a good deal or are trying to cloth two young kids, it's a little slice of thrifting heaven. We regularly score kids clothes in excellent condition, some adult clothes, toys, and more. My favorite bag came from The Bins. I walked in the other day and scored two pairs of Kamik rain boots for the kids in a matter of seconds and probably paid a couple bucks for them both. Yes, the people can be rude. Yes, you might want to wear gloves. Yes, you might find something damp on occasion. But you will find the deal of a lifetime if you can get over your big bad self and start digging, like my friend who picked up a learning tower for a few bucks. I've found the mornings have more immigrants and shoes - the shoes are crazy. Mornings at The Bins are serious business. Afternoons and evenings are more the hipster crowd who are way too cool for school. Now I want to go do some digging. The Outlet has plenty! Plenty of green giant barrels of clothing, nick nats and left over items that did not sell at the local Goodwill. Gotta admit, there are some bargains but you have to be really, really, interested in going through the bins! I agree with what a lot of people have said...having read numerous reviews on here. Like the fact that you need gloves and the fact that it is gross to some degree. I went today (end of February) b/c I was feeling sorry for myself with only 10.00 to my name. I am always hunting for hiking clothes for my husband and since we are perpetually poor right now, I go in with no expectations and see what might happen. Today, I found the most random things, and I laughed at it. I now regret not spending the extra 29 cents on that Dr. Phil book though! Reminder for those who seem to be expecting ambience in a bin/outlet store: Most thrift shops are gross to some degree anyway: You are buying other people's stuff, and it is not always cleaned or dusted off. But when people act shocked in the outlet store, without knowing anything about the "bins" (which I can understand if you have never been there)...and people expect the outlet store to function or be like a regular Goodwill: Erase all that out of your mind. Also, when people act like they do not have to work for the stuff...I mean, seriously? Why do you think it is so cheap? Some of these people seem very sheltered to me. I am 41 and I have been thrift shopping since I was about 15, and I started thrifting in DC, which is like undercover (Washington DC where I grew up) and it is seen as a shameful thing that nobody talks about, unlike the thrift shop "GW Boutique" Macklemore proud Seattle culture. AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT IT HERE...I will say...I saw some young women, about 20. She pulled out a boot and said, "OMG, it is a boot! But there is only one. Oh well!" But wait!!! I wanted to tell her...I had just looked at that boot myself...and I would have snagged it if they were a size 9. The other one was right under the stained comforter!! She did not even try to look. So, I cleared my throat and nicely said, "The other one is right here." I learned from this experience that some people are not willing to get their hands or fingernails dirty for a good deal. And that I do not understand. That is part of thrifting, part of the gutsy, down and dirty experience of saving money. It is America and we live in a corporate, capitalism dominated society, so it would make sense that we have to make some kind of sacrifice if we want a deal, right? AARGHH. So...back to the Dr. Phil book...yeah...I agree with what another reviewer on here said: They need more book bins. As a writer myself, and for a literary city like Seattle, they need MORE BOOKS! That being said, perhaps one day I should venture on up to Everett to see what those outlet bins are like up there, as I heard they had more books. So...I wanted to find some cheap hiking boots. But I ended up getting this beautiful wooden box that was only 90 cents and I knew it was Italian or European made. I also got a collectible Teddy bear worth at least 30.00 (Boyd's Bear kitchen bear collectible) and another Easter bunny collectible stuffed animal with precious outfit). I also found some OP swimsuit trunks for hubby and some nice hiking shorts. I found a BRAND NEW Lane Bryant blazer jacket for me and a workout hoodie for me. (Plus sized: Harder to find, but it can be done). And a bohemian purse and scarf. That is when I knew I needed to stop. I went around 4:15 p.m. And was there until 5. Not bad. I think if I go in the morning like many smart people here have suggested, and go for the shoes, with more money, I will be in heaven. I am going to try this next week. I had a great Dr. Phil book but left it behind and now realize I should have gotten it. Oh well, hopefully he will come back into my life soon. I was assisted by a nice guy named Dan who seemed to sense my inexperience as I vacillated on what I wanted. (I had to give up a "Guess" bag for 1.50, darn it!, but I could not justify it since I had a max of 12.00 I could spend.) I was gonna get a nice heavy jacket for my hubby but it pushed me over budget, so once I took it off, the cost went down again. Therefore: When picking up clothes, I want to note that these seem to be more expensive than anything else, and one needs to take into account the heaviness of the item or the texture and materials and how much it will weigh. Also, have them double check the weight to make sure it is correct. Some things have "stories" to them. I picked up Bible that I was going to buy, but it had carefully inscribed thoughts from the woman, Bonnie, who owned it. And then I thought: What happened to Bonnie? And that is what would be foremost in my mind if I bought it, so I put it back. Overall: I think this is an experience one needs to do about twice a month at different times to compare their items and experiences. And be open minded and flexible when you go. You want to be relaxed when you go. And prepare yourself for elevator music to songs like "Rocky" or "Eye of the Tiger". It is enough to make you smile, and/or cry. LIVE ON OUTLET read more

This is the walmart of goodwill. It has to be the widest selection that I have experienced thus far. The only thing I'd say is that there is some pricey stuff in there. You get used to Goodwill being the cheapest place so you buy something blindly and then find the same thing at Fred Meyer for $10 more. Be decerning but enjoy! I've scored some great stuff here, and paid basically nothing for it! How can you say no to clothing for $1.39 per pound? I know I can't. It's a great place, but don't make going here a regular habit, for your own sake. There are some guidelines you should consider prior to a trip to "the bins." Here they are: -do not go the bins while you are sick, you do not want to breath the filthy air in here while your immune system is compromised. also, if you have asthma, bring your inhaler! -Wash your hands before you leave the bins. -Don't just buy something unless you are sure it's actually something you plan to wear. You can quickly build up a closet full of clothes you never wear if you aren't careful. -Do not fall in love with a shoe at the bins until you find it's match. The odds are against you on this one, unfortunately. -Nothing is separated in the bins, except for the shoes. So all men's and women's clothing is thrown together with children's stuff, soiled bed linens, underpants, used halloween costumes, old bathmats... you get the idea, be prepared to dig! -Sooner or later, you will grab hold of something wet while digging through the bins. Just go wash your hands (see above) and try not to think about the myriad of liquids that it very well could have been. -Most shoppers at the bins are poor and need these cheap clothes more you do, and they are more then willing to fight you for something. You own a computer, presumably if you are using this website, and probably do not NEED to be shopping at the bins. Bear this in mind when that single mother strikes you because you stole her jeans. -If you see anything designer that looks real, just buy it, don't hesitate, then go sell it on the ave or Broadway. -Do not wear anything you buy here until it has been washed. read more

I am pretty much a Goodwill Outlet connoisseur at this point. The Seattle store is unique for utilizing donated bath mats and stuffed animals in the bathroom. Seriously, what the hell. I have found a lot of good stuff here, including a vintage red leather Anne Klein purse, $14 in the pocket of a sweater, and some sweet jewelry. The clientèle is more down and out than I've seen at other stores, and there are some professional purse/pocket checkers who hang out here all day. I sort of fell in love with SODO for a while until Andy's Diner closed shop, so this location is generally a pain in the ass. read more

I love Goodwill. This outlet is BIG. Every time I go I do get a stuffy noise and running. It is so dirty in there and people shove you for items and there are a couple scary people as well. On a good note I did get a lot of cool items for cheap. The weigh by the pound. You get a big bin and just throw your stuff in it. They bring out large long bins and you have to dig. I say bring gloves and a mask keep a thing of cash in your pocket and go through all your stuff after your done. Make sure to look for holes and stains. I truly do love this place. read more

This is exactly what people say it is thrift store shopping to the extreme. There's bins and bins of stuff - clothes, shoes, toys, bags and miscellaneous home crap for one to sift through. Be wary there's some gross things in those bins -- stained and soiled underwear and clothes but there's also random crap like boarding passes and people's seminar notes. We even saw someone's priority package with a tv antenna inside. That being said you really need to look and dig through these bins for anything good. There's good things to be had (nice jeans, sweaters, accessories and shoes with brand names). I found a Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet, a Givenchy wallet and a nice BCBG sweater. Again you have to dig and wear gloves. Some people say to wear a mask but I was fine without one. They change out the bins every hour or so but be careful of people who will push you out of the way to get the best stuff. They'll grab a bunch and sort later. Everything is by the pound. I'd return but don't expect much except using up a lot of time and watching out for others who will pounce on the good stuff before you. read more

I spent $98 here on almost 100 lbs of "stuff" to cut up and make new clothes out of. I found so much that i was able to fill my entire trunk. A t-shirt costs less than $.50 here-- shockingly, they can cost up to $5 at the Value Village! I can see how a person who is looking for a certain thing could spend hours in here, searching, hoping and probably not finding... but for a person like me just looking for fabric that will work for my projects, and not interested in the style of the garments, it was a perfect fit. We were unable to get a shopping cart, it seems that people spend HOURS there and there aren't enough shopping carts, but I did roll an office chair around, piled high with my stuff. I avoided the crowds when new bins were brought out-- but if I were searching for clothing I would wear as-is, I'd suggest joining the crowd. Some of my best finds, fabric-wise came from those bins after the crowd dissipated. Best find of the afternoon was a pair of North Face boots-- in my size, almost brand new. I found the same style selling for $160 elsewhere. As my purchases were by the pound, I'm guessing I paid under $2 for the boots at the Goodwill Outlet. read more

This is like the store equivalent of REAL TALK. I remember when I was in high school and the Bins were located in a cool old brick building next to the Goodwill on Dearborn. I took my mom there when she was basically a thrift store virgin and the experience was super intense! I loved buying like six hundred things and paying by the pound, spending almost nothing for a bunch of stuff, but it was a little less cool then because thrift stores were still really cheap in the 90s. Now, the prices at Value Village and Goodwill are going through the roof, making the Bins even more attractive. This is basically a huge room full of rolling tubs that are replenished at different intervals throughout the day. There are serious pickers - people wearing gloves, face masks, and other protective gear who submerge almost half of their bodies into the bins, looking for anything and everything, throwing it all in a huge cart and going to a private corner near a bunch of broken lamps to sort the good stuff from the bad. There are the super annoying vintage store employees who come in packs, fan out, and have no problem elbowing you in the face or snatching stuff right out of your hands. There are the weirdos, like the lady with the tiny dog that snarls at everyone and the guy who talks to the sweatshirts. Then there's me; I either go with a mission in mind (like yesterday, when I had to get a bunch of t-shirts for a cowl making workshop) or just to see what weird stuff I can find. I've gotten everything from glittery vests and old lady cat sweatshirts to name brand stuff in my size in good shape that I actually wear. There are definitely a lot of duds in the mix - clothes people started altering but quickly abandoned, t-shirts full of holes, and jeans that are mysteriously... damp. If you have an open mind, though, this can be an endless treasure hunt. The parking's tough here more often than not, and it can be overwhelming if you're not ready for it, but if you have $5 and an hour to kill, you can't find a better place to spend either one than the Bins. read more

This place is revolutionary. Yes, it can be moldy, rank, and full of very odd and sometimes aggressive people, but this place humbles me. There are just massive amounts of stuff, sometimes beautiful (and valuable) stuff in the world, and somehow, tons of it ends up here. And after all is said and done, I'm leaving the place spending less than ten dollars. For me, it's definitely a form of consumerist entertainment and therapy all it once - and lovely because it costs less than almost anything else. read more

It's perfect for when you want to kill time. As for the low reviews well this place ain't for the sheltered and faint hearted. You get what you pay for!!! Duh. The only thing I hate is when you have to deal with eBay shoppers who practically live there and don't want have real jobs.. They're ruthless but don't let them ruin your fun. I've happily found that repurposing fabric from used clothes is a great way to practice without breaking the bank. basically I've spent $20 and gotten dozens of kenneth cole dress shirts, several japanese silky prints, various brand names, some with tags still attached... for DIRT CHEAP. so yes, you gotta deal with the dirt to enjoy the cheap. read more
