I've been to several shelters in the past year to adopt and it's been up and down. I went here on a Saturday after work and brought home my fur ever baby girl. I'm a proud happy fur mom . This is the happiest day of my life . I cried so many tears of joy when I was able to adopt my new female dog. I named her Sasha. Previously known as Oldsmobile. Sasha is the absolute sweetest girl ever. Sasha is what my heart needed. As a puppy she is very smart. Introducing to crate has been fairly well. Eating wow this girl can eat, run, do sprints around the house, yard and is super excited. I am too lol. Potty training is going very well in the morning she wakes me up with kisses to say she has to go and stands by door we go out. We have a routine. Totally recommend Homeward Per adoption to everyone. You will never be disappointed. The accept donations from you if your pet has passed away, been surrendered or you just want to donate, food, toys, supplies for dogs and cats. Well, I could continue to give praises all day. Gotta go mommy duty is calling.

I was in a pretty helpless position as I was not due to be home for several days. My son came up with a great idea and checked online to see if our dog had been found and turned in to the RASKC. Sure enough, she was there. My wife went down the next morning, paid the fee and picked her up. She had been well treated, and we are very thankful that they found her and gave her a good safe place until we could come get her. My son said that she was so excited to see him. She cried and whined, and fell asleep in his arms in the car. Thank you very much

I waited through a list of 8 people and when I got to the top i was randomly dropped to number 5 again. I waited again. the third time i was at the top, I went to the adoption center they said my name was nowhere on the list at all. it went on and on! I was there for 2 hours of this. I know that you are underfunded but really--why is this so bizarrely inept and broken? Just make a PAPER LIST and call us, like a restaurant hostess would do. We didn't adopt, but we will from a good organization. And the place we adopt from will also receive our donation money.

They are given water and food on regular schedules. We have adopted from Seattle Humane two times now. I would've given them 5 stars except for this policy of letting potential adopters take their time keeping a dog on hold while others wait. Here was our recent experience: We found, met, played with a dog that we instantly loved and would've adopted immediately. But we were told that these three sisters (or maybe they were friends) had put their name in ahead of us to visit with this same dog. However, this group of 3 girls also had put in their name to see two other dogs. So Seattle Humane told us we had to wait until these girls visited with all three dogs and then we had to wait until they made up their minds! There was NO TIME LIMIT for them to decide. We are experienced dog owners and have been for 50 years. We knew we wanted this particular dog. She was gentle, got along with kids and other dogs, etc etc. TWO HOURS LATER ( no exaggeration), those three girls decided they wanted the dog that we wanted. We were happy for them, but why did Seattle Humane waste our time? Why didn't they have time limits? These girls wanted to look at all three dogs. What if they wanted to look at 10? I asked if Seattle Humane could call us if the dog was available and we could go home and wait. They said no they don't do things like that. I'll always donate to them because of the animals. Not because of this idiotic policy of letting potential owners take their time. And btw, they don't vet potential owners like other rescues do. I wish they would for the sake of the animal.

The building looks nice and they…read morework to be organized by letting you register first come, first serve to see a specific pet, or go walk and look then come ask to meet an animal if you like. Some people manage to get pre-approved for pets but there is no way to do that on the website, which is confusing. The bad: Seattle Humane listed a dog as no special needs. We took time off work, prepared to visit and apply, we were ready. First in line, the volunteer told me before we met the dog she's undergone 3 operations - 2 for cancer- since arriving. Also she had a major bladder operation and requires special food and no treats, recurrence is likely. None of these are deal breakers for potential adopters w a big budget for operations, but why wasn't this in the description. We met the dog and she was cute, but we didn't get a room- we got to go in her little kennel and squat down (avoiding the urine) and try to get to know this dog who is still wearing a big plastic e-collar. Poor pup! Also meeting her first me, then my husband (as volunteers handed out peanut butter on bags as enrichment which she wanted badly) was chaos. I know these places are busy, and smaller animals are in demand, but for the sake of the dog's success in a new home please be more up front about medical problems AND reward our time outside in the cold lined up for opening by giving us a place to visit where we could both meet the dog without her bumping her plastic head protector on us. Last spring my husband was first in line seeing a dog- they sat him in the kennel w a dog who never came out from the divider in back. They interrupted his visit to say "sorry someone was ahead of you, you need to leave". This was another odd case of a successful dog family being treated like we're really not welcome nor do they care if we adopt. Our last dog lived to be almost 18, our last two cats were 18 and 19 when they passed. Our dog and one cat we're both special. Medical needs. I've trained and shown dogs and I volunteered with animal rescues for over 20 years. I've been on multiple boards of directors for shelters. Adopters are potential donors and supporters and I wish Seattle humane took that more seriously. We were very sad that the dog we had hoped to adopt and arrived. Prepared to apply turned out to have medical needs that were never disclosed. That little dog could've been taken home by the wrong family who really doesn't understand the scope of her medical needs because they didn't find out until they got to the counter and already had their heart set on her. That is the wrong journey for the dog and the humans.

She was overlooked at the animal shelter because she was cowering in the back of her cage, was droopy from having nursed puppies and she is a black dog. Her mid-section firmed up and she gained confidence and really blossomed with the security of her foster home. She is an incredible dog, cute, smart, and is very expressive. Many people and organizations we encountered treat animals, especially dogs, as a transactional commodity they are entitled to buy and "own" at their discretion. Not True North. Their approach includes temperament testing the dogs, assessing what type of family may be the best fit for their needs, a thorough and highly detailed interview and application process for all prospective adopters, multiple meet and greets to ensure ideal placement, and extensive follow up after the dog has been homed. This process ensures that what's good for the family, but ultimately what's best for the dog, is the final outcome. While it is time consuming, and not all families are open to being held to this type of standard, personally we couldn't be happier with the outcome. The end result is a happy, well adjusted dog, expertly incorporated into a family who will work to give them the best life they deserve. Post placement we continue to be impressed with the practically 24 hour on call support and encouragement their officers provide and have on multiple occasions turned to them for guidance on how to ensure a happy and healthy home for our whole pack. The officers and board who run the organization are tireless in their efforts, spending nights and weekends dedicated to the rescue and the dogs they serve. Each team member we met was compassionate, professional, and dedicated advocate for GSDs and their welfare. Anyone considering adopting a GSD or looking for a worthwhile cause to support financially (they survive off donations as a non-profit!) I highly recommend True North!

I could tell they were super committed to finding the right fit for the dog but also to supporting me. What stood out most was how thoughtful and thorough they are. They do not just let any dog go to anyone. They truly want every dog to find a forever home. I originally came in to meet a specific dog, but Sarah and Eliz helped me think through whether that dog was really the best fit for me, my family, and the dog. Their honesty and care meant so much. Sarah, one of the volunteers, spent over three hours helping people, answering questions, supporting the animals, and making thoughtful matches. She helped match me with the perfect dog for my family, and I am so thankful for her time and patience. Eliz, who runs the rescue, clearly pours her heart into these animals and advocates hard for every one of them. After visiting in person, I have an even deeper respect for rescue work. The volunteers give their weekends, time, and energy to help animals who need someone to fight for them. When I walked in, it smelled clean and the meet and greet rooms were really clean as well! All of the kitties were just chillin in the rooms. Process: I found PAWS Cat City on Google maps when I searched cat adoption near me. I went to their website and kept checking for new kitties. When I saw a few that I wanted to meet, I just showed up the next day at opening (on a Thursday), let the adoption specialists know which kitties I was interested in meeting, filled out a form, and went straight into the meet and greet rooms. I spent about 20-30mins in the room observing and petting the kitties. While I was in the room, the adoption specialists came to check in every 10 mins and I was able to ask lots of questions. After I decided to take Tako home, I sat down with one of the adoption specialists and went through their packet. Someone also helped put Tako in the soft carrier that I brought. I ordered mine on Amazon, and since it's a soft one, it arrived folded up and didn't take up much space. I think they also have one-time use carrier or used hard carriers for purchase. I'd highly recommend PAWS Cat City for cat adoptions! I've seen some mixed reviews on how busy it gets on weekends, so I'd recommend stopping by during a weekday.
