Our family adopted a dog from one of NDLB's Chinese Sanctuaries in East Asia 7 months ago. I have…read morenothing but praise for all of the staff encountered throughout our adoption process, (which from start to finish took a little more than three months). NDLB is an incredible 501(c) (3) non-profit and their global mission of rescuing dogs and cats from immense suffering and complete abandonment, along with their exceptional care and concern for each survivor (no matter the gravity of each animal's injuries), is nothing short of outstanding. The dog we happened to adopt is a Japanese Akita Inu and happens to go by the name Romeo because he happened to be saved from slaughter on Valentine's Day (on February 14, 2020). The founder of NDLB , Jeff Beri, and his crew actually risked their lives twice to save our dog. Once (due to the strict Covid-19 Restrictions in China at that time and a second time to challenge the people who were about to slaughter him). I personally found all of the NDLB staff I interfaced with during the adoption process very personable and easy to connect with. More importantly, I found the staff demonstrated great care and concern for their animals throughout the adoption process. While waiting for Romeo's freedom flight to New York, we received multiple videos and photo's along with ongoing communication from the NDLB Chinese staff who were with him daily. The New York staff made sure I (along with my husband), understood all the possible challenges that came with adopting a dog from overseas and wanted to make sure we were up for this type of challenge. All I can say is Romeo has completely changed our family's life. Our family over the years has had three dogs. Romeo was our first overseas adoption, by far, he is the most considerate dog we have ever had the pleasure of owning, and is always looking out for our well-being. One last positive has been, over the past months, being able to maintain on going contact with Romeo's team in China, and being able to send photos and videos of him here having all sorts of fun in the USA. Couldn't be more proud of this pup. 6 weeks ago she was everything to me but was also very tough to manage. She was the sweetest dog 1 on 1 but had her special way of going complete berserko any time someone else entered the room. A few weeks ago a photo like this wasn't even worth trying for. She always moved out of frame and could never stay still for more than a few seconds. Marlon of @k9u_ny trained her to become not just more obedient, but a focused presence that is always looking for ways to ensure I'm loved. I feel as though I have a dog that's constantly on the look out for me. It's hard to put into words how comforting that is. It's the whole reason why I got her and after two tough years of losing hope that she'd always be a handful, here she is posing with easy for me to snap a portrait... without even the need for treats. Their service top to bottom is extraordinary. Marlon was always quickly reachable, he provided constant updates, his team was always on point and on their A game. My husband and I started using their services a few months ago for private lessons for our new…read morerescue dog, August. We wanted to teach our dog basic obedience and work on making sure he didn't bolt right out the door whenever he saw the door open. Our dog made a tremendous amount of progress in just six weeks working with *Uncle Marlon*. At this time, we also sprinkled in a bit of day care facility to get August used to socializing properly with other dogs and learning to seperate himself from us On Saturday, for our wedding day, Marlon picked up August at 10:30 from our house and took him to daycare at his facility. He brought him to meet us at our venue at 4 and the took him back to be boarded that evening. We were so excited to have pictures with our baby on our wedding attire and can't wait to see pictures! We picked August up that Sunday ... and boy did he have a great time! 10000/10 for the greeting we got when we picked him up!! The staff is so sweet and makes the dogs feel so at home while they're away from home. We usually send August with his food, treats and a few things from home (toy, bed, blanket). Alyssa sends us pictures and videos of him playing and making new friends. It's the cutest thing ever.

The application is pretty standard for pet adoptions, in my opinion. Personal references, Vet references (if you've owned previous animals), do you work or perhaps are retired? These along with other basic questions so the Adoption department can try and match you with an animal whose temperament fits your lifestyle. Of course they cannot guarantee certain things but, I feel their efforts are done in good faith. After speaking with a very personable Adoption specialist named David S, we set up a meet and greet. The team thought Sparky may be a good fit for our family. We hit the jackpot and Sparky thought we were perfect for him as well!! He was given up to date shots and given a clean bill of health. We signed the required documents, paid a reasonable fee (s) and took him to his new forever home! We were treated kindly by each employee/volunteer we interacted with. We thank them for the important work they do. Please consider adoption when looking for a fur baby. Please consider TOH. I'm sure your experience will be as wonderful as ours was.
