Before contacting Second City, I admittedly reached out to a few other repair companies. I believe the number was around 10. I'd explain my washer's problem. I'd be asked to be contacted back and hopefully, within the next day or two, someone would give me a call with an estimate. Four places came back with an estimate of around $400. It was either that the board needed to be replaced, or the motor. When I was actually going to pay someone, they couldn't be at my house after 6pm, even when their YELP hours were listed until 9pm. Then there was Bobby from Second City Appliance Repair. This man was too good to be true. He was prompt with his responses. He gave me an honest estimate, which was about half of the others. And he actually was able to come to my home after 6pm. We set an appointment and he was at my door the next day-- with the part! When he arrived, I told him about the other estimates and asked how he can come in so low. His answer is what I was looking for. Bobby's been in the business for around 18 years and with that expertise, he knew exactly what it was. He's worked with Bosch washers before and knew that the motor didn't need to be replaced. All the motor needed were some replacement parts. So, 30minutes later, he walked out of the laundry room and explained exactly what the issue was, how he fixed it, showed me what the old part looked like, and thanked me for my business. I really think he'd be in and out in 30 minutes if it wasn't for me asking so many questions. I am super impressed with the service, his commitment to his business, and the knowledge that he has. My LG front-loading washing machine drum has been replaced twice under warranty. Both times the factory sent out a technician to replace the drum at what would have been a shocking price if it wasn't covered under warranty. When it started failing again I almost didn't bother to call a repair man. A neighbor recommended Second City Appliance Repair so I called them for an appointment. The service technician was on-time, neatly dressed and clearly knowledgable about my washing machine. He was able to diagose the problem as a broken stabilizing strut (or something like that. It sounded better when he explained it.) Rather than replace the whole drum he was able to get just the one broken part and replaced it for way less than I expected. I've had lots of mediocre service before from service technicians. These guys made it painless, efficient and way less expensive than I thought it would be. Second City Appliance is the absolute best. Bobby Diakakas the owner was thoroughly professional. He was on time quickly diagnosed the problem with our Wolf Built In Oven and when the parts came in he installed them within a short period of time. Service call and labor to install parts was very reasonable. We had a previous technician come out and he indicated we needed a new Control Panel at a cost of $1200 installed which was completely wrong. Bobby correctly diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning Relay Board. I referred Bobby to a neighbor who had a previous estimate of $2,500 for repair of his Wolf Built In Oven and Bobby diagnosed the problem as a bad Heating Element which cost around $200. He is punctual, courteous, neat and reasonable cost. He also shared some good cooking tips with my wife on using the various features of our oven. I don't often write reviews but this experience definitely deserves one. My 25 year-old Subzero refrigerator wasn't cooling and I called around trying to get someone out ASAP. It was early morning and I left a message at Second City. Bobby called me back immediately and when I described the situation he said he was pretty sure I would need a new evaporator coil (which I expected too). Rather than come to the house to check, then order parts, then return to make the repair, he said he would order the part from Subzero immediately and have them rush it to him and if that turned out not to be the problem he could return it. He then called me back in a few minutes to confirm the part was on the way and he would be out as soon as it arrived. As promised, showed up (on time), confirmed the problem and installed the new part. He even fixed the light switch that hadn't worked in years. I knew this was an expensive repair but I expected it to be even more, so I was pleasantly surprised. No question this is who I will call for all my appliance issues in the future. read more
