DO NOT GET SCAMMED LIKE I DID! I've been bringing multiple cars to this shop since 2022. That ends now. Less than 2,000 miles ago, during an oil change, I specifically asked them to check my brakes and was told they "looked good." After recently hearing metal-on-metal, I brought the car back and was told I needed new brakes and rotors. Only then was I informed the brakes had not actually been inspected because the tires couldn't be removed--something that was never communicated at the time. For context, this same shop replaced my brake pads and rotors less than 20,000 miles ago, which makes this situation even more concerning. I was quoted $900 for the repair. I got a second opinion and found a more reasonably priced and transparent shop. This raised serious concerns about whether I was being properly advised in the first place. When I declined the repair, I was told the vehicle could not be taken unless it was towed, requiring me to arrange and pay for a tow just to retrieve my own car. Given that this involves a critical safety system that I specifically asked to be checked, the lack of communication is unacceptable. After years of trusting this shop with my vehicles, this experience showed a clear lack of transparency and accountability. Lesson learned. I will be reporting this. Do not go here. read more

Great Experience Overall I'm a few months late posting, but I can safely say at this point that the repairs were well done. We had a catastrophic fuel injection system issue. Jeff was honest from the get-go, said it's clearly something fuel related and they'd have to hunt for the problem. We had done research online, and everything Jeff recommended was inline with the issues. Unfortunately for us, the problem was something rare and could only really be found by ruling out other things. The good news is- it's not Jeff's fault that we had this bad situation, however, when you are in a bad spot you want someone like Jeff to break things down in an understandable way, emphasize when a bump in the road comes up, and be very clear about timelines and costs. So, I recommend Jeff and RB Automotive. Costly experience for us, but would 100% use Jeff in the future. read more

I would like to start off by saying I'm not very trusting when I take my car to places and I normally have my dad or a family member work on my car. BUT, I found this place and they are amazing I will not take my car anywhere else. I took my car in because my break was making a grinding noise even thought I just had them replaced a few months ago. They were very detail oriented and took my breaks off and found that the quality of break I used was low and the material in the low quality of break was making the noise. They called me and were very informative and even messaged me after a few day to make sure everything was working okay. Also they took my car on a test run on the freeway to made sure the breaks were sounding good! I really appreciate all of their help. I had been communicating with Jeff for my car but I know the whole team is great!! read more

We were stranded with a sudden breakdown transporting my son's car back to the Bay Area. We called Jeff at 8 AM in the morning. We met with him 15 minutes later, and we were on the road by 1:30 pm. His team accurately diagnosed the bad alternator, checked for other faults, gave us a fair quote and got us motoring in no time! Just over 1 year ago, I moved to California from Kansas and needed smog certification on my two cars. I checked Yelp, and this was one of the closest places to where I lived with good reviews, and here I went. My 2019 Mazda passed the smog test with flying colours. It only had 13K miles on it so I wouldn't expect anything less. Car was in and out in a flash. My 2018 Audi - this car was shipped from Kansas to California. Only had maybe 15K miles on it, yet it failed the smog test. One of the measures came back "NA." The mechanic took the initiative to look online to try to diagnose, and as we discussed the issue, he realized the battery had been disconnected from shipping (standard practise). Forums suggested driving the car for a few hundred miles then retesting. Go back to RB Automotive a few weeks after driving another 500 miles. They took me in without even having to line-up. To everyone's surprise, it was still testing negative! By this time, I had to take it to the DMV (aka hell on earth) for a permit extension since I wasn't able to register the car within 30 days of arrival. Drove it for a few more hundred miles, and took it back to the RB guys for testing (again without line up). Still an "NA" result on the test, and everyone was thinking the stronger version of WTH. They suggested I take it to an Audi dealership to get to the bottom of it, and if there were any issues, I would be fully covered by warranty. So Audi dealer I went, asking them to do whatever is needed to get me a smog certificate, including doing the smog testing that costed significantly more through the dealership. Well, the dealer fixed the issue, simply by forcing some sensor back on. But they neglected to do the smog test despite clear instructions to do so. I "formula oned" (is there such a verb?) from Escondido Audi to RB Auto, arriving about 20 minutes before their closing. They rushed me in to do the test, and finally, after much blood, sweat, tears and going through the emotional rollercoaster of having to revisit the DMV yet again, my car passed the test. So, thank you RB Auto. Love you guys but hope to see you as little as possible. read more

Came into RB automotive on an emergency visit and was extremely pleased with the service that was provided. Exceptional knowledge coupled with genuine concern for the overall health of my car had me completely sold on this shop. I needed a quick turnaround on my vehicle since I had to head to work and RB automotive rose to the occasion and had me back on the road the same day. They even gave me some value engineering options just in case I wanted to do a little DIY but I felt like I was in good enough hands to have my car completely handled by them. I requested a 75K mile oil change, lube and radiator flush for my 2016 CRV. Jeff told me I needed additives for for my engine. I accepted his recommendations. Then he said my tires need to be rotated. I do not know why because I get tire service at Costco and had done so before coming to RB. but Jeff said he needed to remove the tires to check the brakes. So I agreed. (I am an old lady and trusted him.) Then when I got onto highway 15 the tire pressure light came on. I asked if they had calibrated the tire system as the Honda book says to do. Jeff argued that he was not a tire service shop and could not do so. My questions is:IF his shop cannot do the correct job, why did he start? Jeff was argumentative and I will not return. So now I have to return to Costco to correct RB's mistake. read more

The Shop is close to home. I looked at yelp reviews and believed this would be a good place to use for my auto repairs. I couldn't be more wrong. When I inquired about a continuing issue after forking over more than $1200.00. Their reply was: "I guess it's a mystery." If your ability to diagnose what a mechanical issue is doesn't stop you from guessing and charging over $1200.00 and the issue isn't fixed. You shouldn't be in automotive repair. I will not be taking any vehicles back to them. Don't give them your money. read more

My husband had his car serviced here a few months back (they actually loaned him one of their OWN personal cars while his car was left there for several days) and was SO pleased with them, that when my car wouldn't start he convinced me to take it here. Yes, we drove down from San Marcos to RB for a mechanic. My car needed a new battery- easy fix for that. The guys are really nice there. It took them about a day. It was right after Christmas and they were very busy. It's a family owned business (which we love supporting). Hopefully, we're done with major car repairs for a while but we'll be back when the time comes! read more

Had a check engine light come on. Jeff explained there is a set rate to read codes and perform a diagnostic. Fortunately the issue and repairs were minor. Jeff and his team replaced the clutch on our Toyota Matrix. First, they did a great job and it drives better than it has in YEARS! They also took the time to make sure the part was working correctly. Not impressed at all. Reviews are great, however my experience was anything but. We went there three times giving them the benefit of the doubt. We will not be back here. If you need anything more complex than an air filter, do your car a favor and go elsewhere. The issues we had: 1. New suspension is worse than the original 15 year old one. 2. New brake issues. Went back and they still didn't diagnose and fix. 3. Coolant leak due to carelessness. We spent over $3 thousand at this place and the car was worse off. Had to take it elsewhere to address the brakes since it was a serious safety concern. read more

Over priced, I recommend quoting other places before going with this shop. I got charged $563 for rear break rotor and pads, $427 for rear shocks and $238 for spark plugs. All of this in a Honda Civic. I declined the $80 cabin air filer I got quoted for; I did this myself in 5 minutes for like $15. After some research I realized these guys where charging like double for parts compared to Autozone prices. I understand they have to make money on parts and charge for a couple hours of labor for what they did. But it is still overpriced to me. Note also they have hired technicians that do their work. read more

They are so awesome, they don't up-sell you on things you don't need and they value you the car as their own and give you advice on what to do to maintain your car healthy. Jeff and his team are awesome. If you want a no BS estimate and inspection this is the place to go. I drive from Encinitas just to see them. I brought an old truck of mine in for an oil change and what I call a "road worthy" inspection. The truck itself had a lot of issues and instead of convincing me to pay them lots of money to fix it they gave me other great suggestions. After 20 some years with another shop in RB and my ex-Nissan, I switched over to RB Automotive today. I am starting fresh with my old Toyota that I inherited. I had them check it over and do a synthetic oil change. I also asked them to replace the windshield wipers and was told that I could get them cheaper myself, which I knew, but appreciated the honestly! They thought my 2003 Avalon was in good shape. They seem honest and were pleasant. It is really hard to change/find a new mechanic, especially one that you can trust. I would recommend them. read more

After being long time clients, my husband and I told RB Auto that they lost our business today. They treated me unprofessionally and disrespectfully. I had an appointment for an oil change at 1030. I specifically told them I was on a time crunch and THAT was the time THEY recommended. I told them I would be back in an hour and to please call me with updates. I came back at 1145. They hadn't even started or called me. They said 'the guy pulled the car in and went to lunch.' I asked why they didn't call. They said they were on the phone. They were non-chalant and unapologetic.
