I would have liked for them to leave the TVs out, but I understand that, for hotels, they are basically as necessary as having a bed. I also waited to write this review until we'd stayed at another historical hotel down the road, for an apples to apples comparison. Staff were friendly and excited to share. We were shown to our room & given a small tour of the property, including the gorgeous ballroom, which was being set up for a private even. They've undergone restoration, not renovation. They've stayed period-correct & everything from the style to the furnishings reflect this. Rooms were quiet & clean. Our room was a shower only room. As I'm half mermaid, I like having a tub option but not a deal breaker. There was a tea cart out, which we found to be a nice touch without adding a lot of cost for them. We appreciated the addition of hallway seating nooks & spent time there daily. My favorite was the exit lighting (see pic), absolutely charming! What they did right comparatively: decor & hospitality throughout the stay. Staff were friendly & daily housekeeping was offered. On check-in we were asked where we came in from, what we were here for, with genuine interest and eye contact. The thought put into each furnishing was evident. So quiet, never a slamming door or loud guest. No odd odors! This is HUGE in a property of this age, when the surfaces have soaked up a hundred years of cigarettes & other stenches! Parking lot is attached with guest spots reserved- no 2 block hike to the car lot for any item you've forgotten. What needed improvement comparatively: communication. The pre-arrival info only made sense after checking in. Arrival was a bit odd, nothing to indicate we were in the right place. We roamed the casino a bit, then approached the bar for assistance. The barkeep was also the innkeeper & only one working. My husband drove around d/t no parking signage. At check-in, the cone stystem was explained & it's actually a really good system! I would definitely stay here again.

The room had a surprise - no shower - just a tub - but it was a pleasant surprise. (When you make a reservation, double-check to ensure you have a shower if you need one. There are a few rooms that have tub only - which was fine for our stay.) The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We were in Room 3 - King Size Bed, small corner sink, and relaxing old-time-tub! The staff was amazing - always very friendly - from the front desk to the casino attendants to the wait staff. Melanie (our host) exceeded our expectations with her kindness, professionalism, smile, and hospitality. We will definitely stay here again - the perfect location for staying in Deadwood!

This is a great spot for a family vacation…read more We stayed in the Pioneer cabin, which was comfortable for our family of four. Some of the cabins are new and some are modernized older buildings. We loved the rustic interior of our cabin and, being used to camping, appreciated the basic kitchen and bathroom with shower. Wickiup Village is a short distance from a lot of great South Dakota attractions: Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse memorial, the Needles Highway, and the towns of Deadwood and Lead. You can even get to Wall Drug and Badlands National Park within two hours. There is a store and restaurant within easy walking distance, which came in handy. The staff was great and went out of their way to make sure everything was going well. This might not be the place for you if you're used to five-star hotels, but if you want to stay in a place with charm and unique character, don't pass up Wickiup Village.

The bed was saggy and should be replaced. I loved the vintage, light blue 1970s bathroom porcelain and the super long counter. The water was hot and strong, and the tub drained well. The toilet ran, though; the front desk was notified. It was an okay property for a single night, but since it was at the end of Main, we'd probably not stay here again. Since the property is at the (end) of Main Street with 35 MPH speed limit it does get some truck noise. No fridge or microwave, just coffee. Grade B.

We headed for the underground parking but then was lucky because there was one spot left for diamond members. There was only one person at the check in desk and we had to wait. I feel that they should have had another person for the Hilton honors desk as in other hotels. The other thing is they charge for parking even for diamond members and justify this by 'giving' you $15 in casino credits. For those who don't gamble - like us - it's not a perk. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom preferred as it's a shower style. The view was nice as we could see trees, the mountain and the sky. The downside for me was the 'spotlight' above the shower. Due to an accident I still am unable to stand bright lights and I feel this light didn't have to be right on top of the person in the shower. A little bit to the middle of the shower would work just as well. The breakfast provided was either a continental style or a discount off a menu item or the breakfast buffet. There is a shuttle that comes close to the hotel you can take to Main Street Deadwood. Not sure I would stay here again but it's an average hotel.

"Gold Dust Suites" is part of the Gold Dust hotels and is located directly across the street, in Deadwood SD. Before you check into the "Gold Dust Suites" you must know. They have no handicap access to room, ie. elevators etc, no handicap parking ( and having my achilles taken off the bone and repaired) and having a torn rotator cup. that was a big deal to me. Even bigger deal was parking two or three blocks away from room. Why isn't this on your website? We explained to the bearded desk clerk, our situation with my achilles and rotator. We kindly ask to move from the suites into the main hotel whick was closer and we could have taken our bags at the door. We were informed unless we wanted to pay extra for a new room, they could not accommodate a room change. Are you kidding me? The town was dead and i mean empty. Plus it was 7°. Then to top it off after hiking from parking lot in 7° weather, we had no service or internet on our tv. Did i mention that the parking lot is 2-3 blocks away and if that wasn't bad enough it had a sign "PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK" Sweet Jesus, you kidding me. We have over $5000.00 or more in ski equipment stored in our truck, now parked 3 blocks away in a park at your own risk lot in Deadwood SD. Oh Baby, thats a great feeling. Back to the TV. We called front desk and a sweet young lady "Emily" came over and went to work trying to fit wifi. She finally got TV to work and she was delightful. She was full of determination whan it came to that TV boy, she was on it. I can only muster 2 star. Easily fixable things that caused me to give two star: *Non caring desk clerk who was about to get off work and didn't want to take the extra time to change our rooms. * literally blocks away from the room * Park at your own risk parking lot. * no elevator for handicap individuals *no HC parking *TV had no internet *no heat in bathroom *Flies all over window sils and floor * indifferent desk clerk Just put the truth on your website site would be a great start. If not for Emily, I'd given one star. Probably should anyway, but rooms were OK less no heat and flies. This was my second time staying with Gold Dust. I'll probably not return next year. They'll probably be glad I won't be back. Sorry for rambling just a long day. . I have stayed at the The Hotel by Gold Dust before. It was great and I enjoyed it.

If you've never stayed at a B&B, you should. They're very comfortable, private and welcoming. Chester & Evelyn, and Wanda were fantastic hosts. We arrived fairly late in the evening after a long day of driving. The rooms in the Bunkhouse were decorated in an eclectic Western Ranch decor. Super clean and very private. The beds are older but slept well. Breakfast was ready for us at 8 am, served by our hosts, consisted of a delicious egg bake, fruit, coffee, toast, pastry, and cereal and milk for the kids. Conversation with our hosts was easy and friendly. I definitely felt welcome. We entered as guests and left as friends. We will stay here again! The price point was very reasonable for family of five.
