My husband and I spent a 10 night trip in Mexico for our Honeymoon. We decided to stay at 3 different places. The 1st 2 were fantastic (Villa del Palmar and Paradisus La Perla) and our 3rd stop was Secret Silversands which was our most expensive, save the best for last kind of thing. We booked the Overwater honeymoon cabana, which I had spent hours reading about and looking at pictures before booking. There are 3 of them, we got the first one.
The 2nd and 3rd cabana are over the pool as described, the 1st one isn't at all. There is a building underneath, not sure if it's a maintenance shed or what exactly, but structure and porch are over it, not over the pool like the others. And you can hear people under it in the middle of the night...
The description says ocean view or partial ocean view. From laying in bed looking out the sliding glass doors you are looking directly at the hotel room building. If you are out on the porch laying on the loungers, looking at another hotel room building... not the view I had paid for.
The description online read there was a plunge pool on the porch. Was super excited about that. I'm not even 5 feet tall and the water didn't even reach my knees...
Also, the pictures show a spiral staircase down into the pool below. That is the case for the 2nd and 3rd, but if you end up with the 1st one, it's a ladder that even a physically fit person would have trouble getting up and down, if you are trying to get back up the 1st step was chest high on me from the pool below.
The other pools on the property seemed fairly cleaned and maintained. However, it looks like the pool cleaners don't bother to come over to this one to clean, lots of debris in the pool. Also the pool needs to be redone, looks terrible, peeling and worn out. They also have a small section of beach for preferred guests. Nice thought, however it doesn't look like they take the time to maintain it like the other part of the beach. Even though preferred guests pay extra for these perks... not worth it.
Our 1st night housekeeping stopped by for turn down service around 6, but we hadn't left for dinner. Asked them to come back in an hour or so, they said ok. So we get ready, go out for the evening and we come back at about 10... Nope, they didn't come back. Normally I wouldn't be to upset but we are paying $750+/night, for all these services, so I kinda feel like we should be getting them.
So dinner, we go to the Asian restaurant which my husband is super excited about. We get our dishes and his is not made with the proper noodles. They take it back make a new one. Still isn't right but whatever, how many times are you gonna send something back? He also orders a caterpillar sushi roll, he ends up with a shrimp and carrot roll. Neither of these items are even in the caterpillar roll. The sushi chef comes by and apologizes, supposedly they have someone new. That's fine, but why is no one over seeing him? Clearly he's not ready to be working on his own yet... the manager was also made aware of the situation but all and all pretty terrible dinner. Even the food made 'properly' was mediocre at best.
My husband was crying he was so sick before going to bed, I woke up sick in the middle of the night. To make matters worse the toilet broke in the middle of the night. Maintenance did arrive and promptly to fix it, however it wasn't a permanent fix. It kept running multiple times and would not shut off.
We booked through Costco Travel, so we called them and they advised us to let the resort know and go ahead and keep track and take pictures of any issues. We read some reviews online and when the resort responded to comments essentially, it was saying to let them know while you are here so they can try and make it better.
So we decided the next morning to let the concierge, Jerica, aware of of all the concerns we had, which she proceeded to make excuses for. We don't need excuses, fix the issues... since there are only 3 cabanas and that is the nicest you can get they couldn't move us, but they said they would move us to the ocean one the next morning when the other guests left and provide a complimentary dinner with the extra items and wine. Makes it a little better, but still feel like $750/night was still wasted the 1st 2 nights. It's already about 1pm, she says she will send housekeeping and maintenance over immediately to clean and fix the jets that weren't working on the 'plunge pool.' Great we head out for lunch and whatnot. Come back 2 and a half hours later. And you guessed it, Housekeeping and maintenance haven't made it. My husband goes back to the concierge to see what's up. While he's there several families were leaving the resort and going to a different one because the food and housekeeping are terrible here. Also, come to find out the concierge, Jerica, was now in a meeting regarding complaints about maitenance, food, housekeeping, etc. mind you with our current state from the food we are completely out o read more
