The first time I was here I'd come against my will. I'd just met my now-husband and he was insisting that I get malaria medication for my spur-of-the-moment trip to El Salvador the next day; I insisted it wasn't required and thus...I didn't want to pay for it. The doctor also "highly recommended" I get the meds; I said if I got malaria I'd just "shake it off." He was baffled. I was defiant. Now-husband just bought me the meds. I lost my passport anyway. Luckily, I've come a long way in embracing medical care! After self-medicating a sore throat for a week with chicken noodle soup and beer, I developed a hacking cough, then a few days later my voice transitioned first to Ella Fitzgerald and then Louis Armstrong. My husband (actually, now) insisted I go in when my cough started keeping him up at night and my parents didn't believe it was me on the phone. My pcp's phone and Internet was out (Verizon, figures), so I ended up back at good ol' reliable Secure Medical Care. It's nothing fancy, folks, but it IS easy, clean, amazingly fast, and next door to a Rite-Aid pharmacy. The doctor I spoke to was friendly, relaxed, and took his time (such an unfamiliar experience!), and the whole process took under a half hour even though I had no appointment. Awesome. FYI: If your insurance card does not specify a copay for urgent care, then they will charge the fee for a specialist. This place accepts Carefirst BCBS PPO, which is why I went there. This place is a good choice if you have a problem and would like to see a doctor quickly. There were multiple M.Ds when I went there, so there is a high probably that you will get to talk to a real doctor. Also they can provide a number of medication on-site so there is no need to go to a pharmacy, im not sure if they take insurance for the prescriptions but in the case of the item that I needed the cash price of $10 was the same as what I would pay at a pharmacy when using my insurance. I did however, see other cash prices which were higher $20-$40 range, which is higher than I have every paid for any generic medication while using prescription insurance. Apart from that there is nothing notable about this place. The doctor was nice but there was nothing remarkable about her bedside manner. Since they take my insurance I may very well go here again and will update my review if there is any more information to add. I'm not a huge fan of Medical Doctors, but when I have needed one on a semi-emergency basis and I did not feel like going to the ER, taking off work to see my primary MD, I have gone here after work or on the weekend. I have never waited very long in the waiting area, they have been courteous, friendly and thorough. I don't recall the names of the doctors that I saw here, but I have always had my questions answered and I never felt rushed. It is a bonus that they are in network with my BCBS insurance as well. read more

Bottom line: I was in and out in less then 30 minutes. A nice walk in clinic. Everything looked clean and new, and gave the feeling of a high quality establishment. They even ran a quick test on in house equipment that was done in about 5 minutes. I got follow up calls from doctors to see how I was doing. So due to a severe sore throat I was needing some urgent care services. This office came up on my search at the insurance companies website. It is pretty well located for those of us in the NE suburbs of DC in Maryland (College Park, Beltsville, Greenbelt, Hyattsville). It is right next to a Rite Aid (handy that!). Plenty of parking - easy to find. I was a walk in on a dreary Monday. I had just one sheet of paperwork to fill out and then my insurance info was taken and my copay was charged. I waited about 6-8 minutes and got called back. The staff were all very nice - courteous, knowledgeable, quick. The nurse (or assistant..I'm never sure which) who checked me in was good as well. She did not take my temperature which I thought odd - since I was coming in for a sore throat...but whatever. The doctor came in within a minute. I seriously had just dragged out my cell to text some friends about my woes and he was already in there...I almost told him "Dude this room is taken!" but he then said I'm Dr. X (don't remember his name). Very quickly got down to the business of finding out what ailed me - I explained, he looked at my throat, said my initial diagnosis (thank you to my year of oriental medical school!) looked right. Explained to me what my options were and gave me a couple rx's. I was very impressed. VERY. All told less than 1/2 hour and I was on my way. It took me longer to get my prescription filled at Rite Aid than at the Dr's! Well done. We chose to visit Secure Medical Care because of its location, it accepts my insurance, it has good reviews on Yelp, and I do not have a primary care physician in the area. Dr. Rios is excellent. He spent time talking to me about my symptoms and talking out loud with me about the different possible diagnoses and treatments. He was also upfront how my condition may be bigger than what urgent care can take care of, but he still sent me off with a probable diagnosis and treatment. I will update in 1-2 weeks about my condition. The staff at the front desk are courteous. The waiting room--in the middle of the afternoon--was packed and didn't have enough seating. Many people were standing. At the same time, it seems like the waiting room was packed because so many children were waiting for their adults. I understand this given the cost of child care. There was a TV with CNN and lots of magazines. Overall, I would return, and I second the Yelper who wished s/he could have Dr. Rios as a primary care physician. read more

I went to visit Secure Medical Care over the weekend and Dr. Rios was awesome. He was very friendly, funny and has a great bedside manner. His personality reminded me a little of Patch Adams and the comic relief was welcome considering I was so under the weather. I would have given it five stars if it weren't for the long wait. I only waited thirty minutes to be taken back to the the examining room but once my vitals and cultures were taken I did wait an hour for the Doctor to talk to me about the results when I was told the results only took 20 minutes. But I was so sick I just laid down and took a nap. If only that table was a little more comfortable. The front desk staff was a little rude. Not to me but to the folks ahead of me but they were a little stupid so I do understand her frustration but it still doesn't justify it. Another reason for one less star. Overall for it to be an urgent care center where you can walk-in with no appointment, an hour and a half visit is not bad at all. I'd recommend it. read more

Since that occasion, I've visited Secure Medical Care twice, and would go back again, without question. The facility is clean, the process is straight forward and the staff and Dr. Moody are always personable, communicative and efficient. I actually think this is an excellent and efficient place to get care. My gripe is not with the staff of the doctors. They charged me the normal urgent co-pay of $35 and billed my insurance. All fine I assumed. I received a bill in the mail stating that my insurance did not cover the white elastic ankle wrap. OK, they paid the doctor, paid for x-rays etc. They billed me $35 dollars for a item you can buy anywhere for $8-$10 dollars!!! What a rip off!! No wonder people can't afford health care! read more

I went here on Saturday after a bungee cord slipped and the metal end smacked me in the eye. After waiting an hour, I realized that people who had come in after me were being called, so I asked how much longer it would be. The receptionist explained that there were several "travel patients" still in front of me and she couldn't tell me how much longer it would be. "Travel patients," as you can see from the other reviews, are people coming to get shots before traveling abroad. Apparently, Secure Medical Care considers their immunizations more urgent (or more lucrative?) than my damaged eyeball. I left and drove much farther to get help from a hospital, where they consider eyesight valuable. I gave them a 2 instead of a 1 because (1) the receptionist was friendly and (2) she gave me ice for my eye, but I'll drive farther for real medical care next time. read more

I came here on a Saturday morning with a bad sore throat and laryngitis. Well let me tell u after 2 hours waiting I got Tylenol.

I had a very negative experience with Secure Medical Care. Long story short, they never relayed test results to me, and it turns out they were positive for a bacterial infection. This delayed my getting treatment and possibly put my family at risk. I have been to SMC before for stitches and had no complaints. But this October I went there due to a bout of acute GI distress. They took some samples and sent them to the lab for testing. I was told it would take 3-4 days. My visit was otherwise uneventful. When I called back after four days to get my results, I was told it usually takes a 4-5 days. When I called back after five days, I was told it usually take a week. The next time I called, I was told, "if you haven't received a call, that means they results were negative." I asked the receptionist to request that someone should give me a call about the results one way or another. She said that was fine. No one ever called. Three weeks after my visit, I get a letter from some the county health office asking me to call them about my communicable disease. What?! I immediately called Secure Medical Care. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes, the PA told me that I had a bacterial infection and I should start antibiotics immediately because I might be contagious and the bacteria might be latent. What?! When I expressed that I was upset that no one had bothered to give me a call, she blamed the lab - but the fact is that the county had the same results (not sure how that works) and had found a way to contact me. Completely unacceptable that they had information that i had tested positive and needed immediate medical treatment, but they never bothered to let me know, despite my repeat efforts to get the results. I started of 2015 horribly. I swear, well SWORE my Mommy (yep, I STILL and will ALWAYS say Mommy) made me sick. Well I know I make her sick, but I am talking ill. One day my throat was hurting, I even did a Facebook call to order for ALL recommendations from ALL nationalities on how to rid myself of the sore throat - yep, I did try a few. After I couldn't kick the throat issue , I had OTHER complications (I could NOT keep a thing down) and I didn't go to work (NOW this is the serious thing b/c I NEVER miss work - work ethic from my parents). So I looked on yelp for a urgent care spot with decent reviews. I called them to confirm they took my insurance - I mean I KNOW they had good reviews, but el Frugalista is NOT paying more than my co-payment. I get there, sign in and get the forms to fill out. I fill them out quickly because folks were rolling in. I was called back within 10 minutes. I first saw a student from the U of MD - he was super sweet. He took my vitals and then did both a strep and flu test. I waited about 10 minutes and then walks in Dr. Rios. He was a riot, very nice, informative, personable and very funny (yeah I said it twice, but two different ways). He informed me that I tested positive for the flu and went over my options for medication. He talked very slow and explained everything to me in detail. I would NOT hestitate to go there again. It's right next to the Rite Aid, so it's easy to get a prescription filled. Additionally, Dr. Rios walked over to the pharmacy to ensure that they had the meds that I needed. He's a GEM read more

Thanks to Secure, I discovered I have strep throat on a Saturday. I have been to urgent care centers and this one is by far one the best, clean, and efficient urgent care centers. I was in and out in less than an hour. Dr. Moody has a wonderful bedside manner. If it was closer to my house, I would use Secure Medical Care as my primary care physician. read more

I've been to this place a few times in the past few years and every single time that I have been there the service was excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. The doctors are very informative. And I've never really had to wait very long to be looked at. I decided to write a review for this place due to a last minute cancellation doctor's appointment. And thankfully I remember Secure Medical exists! I sincerely wished the doctors there were my regular doctors. Oh! And they do some testing on site, which is nice to get results almost instantly. I visited another urgent care before coming here and boy do I wish I came here 1st. I was sick (head, body aches, stuffy nose, sore throat, the works) and came down with pink eye on a Saturday. I immediately hopped in the car and came here. The wait time was a not that bad but I was irritated about all of the paperwork I had to fill out. I was seen by the doctor, my e-scripts were sent to a 24hr pharmacy, and I was feeling a little better as the days went by. I do wish a print out could be given in regards to the prescriptions and what they're for since everything was emailed to the pharmacy (the pharmacy had me running around Prince George's County for 1 medication) but I now know to jot things down the next time I go to the doctor and receive multiple prescriptions. read more

Top quality medical care at all times. I visited today (without an appointment) expecting to see a lobby full of sick patients. Much to my pleasant surprise my wait was only 5 minutes. The doctor was kind, patient and informative. I've been going here for 5 years. I drive 30 minutes out of my way passing urgent care centers by Concentra and Patient First because I always receive optimal service. My prescription was ready when I walked into the Rite Aid next door. I will continue to support this clinic because of the wonderful staff and quality care. I have never been to an urgent care facility and was not sure what to expect. Had a minor eye issue and could not get a short term appointment at my doctor or any other doctor I tried. One of the offices suggested trying Secure Medical Care. I arrive and had perhaps a 15-20 min wait. Had to interact with both receptionists, a medical assistant and the doctor. Very friendly and personable people. The doctor could not have been any nicer or more thorough. He answered my questions with patience and humor (Dr. Warren) and I had a lot of questions.. My family and I have used Secure Medical Care for quite some time now and I just love the convenience, hassle free service, and professional staff. I don't expect to go to a drop in clinic and be served quickly but that has been my experience on most occasions. There have been a few times that the waiting room was full and I've had to wait but this has not been the norm. This is what they do not tell you when you arrive for an initial visit: if you have insurance your bill for just walking in is $220.00. It is only low cost under certain circumstances and you better ask them FIRST what the cost will be before you receive a bill you did not expect for a minor emergency. I have been to Secure Medical Care multiple times for myself and my children. My son got his eye stitched up tonight by Hope Pennestri, a nurse practitioner. In and out in an hour with excellent care. Have also had quick x-rays to confirm broken bones and treatment for asthma and sinus infections where you get diagnosis and prescription in one trip for the same cost as a trip to the doctor and pharmacy. I pass several other urgent care facilities to come to Secure Medical Care because I know my family will get excellent care in a timely manner. read more

I went there recently for an injury that I had. When the PA and MA left the room I could hear them very loudly discussing my condition out in the hallway near the waiting and within earshot of other patients. It was very embarrassing and upsetting that my personal medical condition was being discussed indiscreetly for everyone to hear. Other than that, the care was good. read more
