We drove up to the Sedona airport to take a scenic tour with Tanner at Bluebird Air Tours. Parking was easy once we arrived and the woman at the check-in counter was friendly. She advised us to take a seat in their lobby and that he would be in to get us as soon as he returned from one of his tours. It was surprisingly fairly quiet even watching the planes takeoff and land. The restrooms in the airport are clean. Lobby was nice vending machines etc. if you were looking for a snack or a drink, the airport is very small but nice. I'd recommend a tour here anytime. read more

Let me just start by saying the view facing northwest is great from this elevation. This is especially true during a summer sunset when the sun sets more in the northwest. However, basically there is only worth a few minutes viewing and photographs from the lookout next to the parking area. The better spot to go see the views is near the small parking area along the road to the airport. With a short, easy hike from that small parking area you can go see incredible views facing to the East of the plateau at the Google map labeled Sedona Trail View point. Then, I would recommend taking the sightly more challenging, but relatively short hike on Summit Trail to the Google map area labeled Airport Mesa Vortex. That's where you will get the spectacular 360° view of the colorful rock formations. Apparently, you can take the Sedona View trail from the upper airport $3 parking area, but Google estimates a 15 minute hike each way to get to the Airport Mesa Vortex. Since there is no specific Yelp listing for the Airport Service Lookout or Airport Mesa Vortex, I have found all the reviews on the airport to include mostly tourist reviews of the famous viewpoints near the actual airport. Just for clarity, the views from this area are 5 stars, I give it only 3 stars because the parking fee AKA tourist tax. read more

This is rated as one of the best spots in Sedona to watch the sun set. Meh. First off, don't drive up the road close to sunset. There are very few trees to block the sun and the glare will blind you from oncoming traffic coming down the slope. Second, you pay $3 per car to park. Kind of a dick move, considering everyone is there for the few minutes that the sun actually takes to set, and then they leave. There is a smaller (like 6 spaces) lot further down the hill, and I bet the views would have been just as good, but you would have to get there MUCH earlier in the day and hike or just sit there to pass the time. Third, if you continue up the road a bit, there are two more parking lots; one for a restaurant, and one for helicopter tours. You're not supposed to park there to watch the sun set, but I guarantee, the entitled do. I'm glad I did it, but I don't need to do it again. Airport road is THE place to see the gorgeous Sedona sunset. Also great views of the town below and the red rock mountains around. Not to be missed. $3 fee for parking and a crowd of folks to maneuver through, but still worth it. The "Vortex" rock is also on this road. Very crowded. People look like a bunch of ants climbing on it. TIP: if it's a cooler evening, determine what time the sunset is & stay in your car until 10 Minutes before. No sense being cold for longer than needed. read more

Great staff all around. Love this little airport. The car guy is super easy to deal with. The gal there is a hoot and a howler. The young kid who is like 20 years old is darling. It's a great approach and also love the wind statues there too. read more

The parking lot charges $3 to park and then you would cross the road to get to the overlook. The parking lot is pretty big and we didn't have any issues finding parking around 4:45pm. One thing to keep in mind is if you come here a little after 5pm, you won't have to pay to park as the parking attendant usually leaves around that time, After about 5 minutes sitting in our car to wait for the sunset, I saw a bunch of cars just drive in without having to pay. Anyways, this is a great place to watch a sunset and to get a great view of the valley and the red rocks. If you have a tripod and a camera, I would suggest you stay after the sun has set to take a cityscape picture. The lights from below with light up the mountain side that you can only see on the camera. read more

Had an unfortunate experience at the overlook parking lot this afternoon. As a shuttle driver, I was dropping people off and the attendant demanded three dollars for the privilege. It's a drop off and a pickup. I handed him five because he pissed me off enough that he earned his two dollar tip. Sedona and noe apparently the airport is all about nickel and diming the operators and tourists. Shame on you Mr Rose.. shame on you. This was a point to point run. I earn $8 for the run. Now minus the five, I made three dollars. And how much do you make a year? Good for you. read more

Is it worth the $3 parking? Yes, it's such an easy must do when you go to Sedona., it give you the opposite view of the mountains behind the town which you probably won't see since most people stay in town. And the views from here are just as breathtaking as in town. Probably even more so done you're so high up. We got this place an hour or so before sunset and it was packed.. you might fight a bit to get a picture spot but everyone was friendly and happy to move out of the way when taking your shot. The smart move is heading down way to the right past all the tourist near the guardrail where the photographers are set up with their tripods. Much narrower and less trafficked. read more

Just quintessential Sedona... red and brown striated mountains jutting skyward in dramatic show. It's everything that you'd imagine when you imagine Sedona. There's a few different trails around and cross-crossing the area. Our group chose a 1.5 hour hike around a certain rim. Very beautiful, the terrain dotted with cacti and bushes, the views spectacular. The energy from the vortex is at times palatable, one friend in the group felt very "off" the whole time we were in Sedona. She especially felt it in this area. Definitely wear your hat and being a water bottle, even the gorgeous weather of 82 degrees cooperating with our hike, it's warm. I'm sure warmer days might feel a little uncomfortable with the little shade. A must see when visiting Sedona! read more

I spent a lot of time here, and unfortunately I felt not even a iota of the famed vortex. However, this airport is absolutely the most scenic one that I have ever been to, set in a dramatic environment that simply has to be seen and felt to be believed. OK, the riff-raffs and ding-dongs that swarm to the parking lot above Sedona around dusk leave a lot to be desired ( with their gongs, incense, and Tibetan-like music blaring from a few ghetto blasters ), but they are part of the "color" here. read more

A short drive to Sedona Airport Overlook for sunset, a bit too crowded (makes it harder to get great pictures) and it costs $3 to park your car. A free limited parking spaces (about 14 spaces) was available at airport loop trailhead before you reach the Airport Overlook where you can also hike to the top and see amazing view of Sedona, the sunset and find one of the vortexes in Sedona. Will definitely try the trailhead next time, it is free and it offers an unobstructed view of Sedona and the sunset. read more

Not the best to photograph planes from unless you can get it inside but they have a wonderful resturant there Mesa Grill and there is a outlook spot there the gets REALLY CROWDED for sunset. Its a must to see when your in Sedona. read more

After visiting the nearby vortex, we drove here to enjoy a wonderful meal. We sat on the enclosed patio and watched the helicopters fly in. I am gf and they had a gf crab cake!! Almost unheard of! It was delicious! Service was excellent! Fun meal with friends! read more

We drove around a loop and hoped our "Spirit Guides" were with us because there was absolutely no place to park. Then all of the sudden...a car puts on it's backup lights and we had a spot! We got out and did a little uphill climbing...we are in our middle fifties (one of us has a bad knee) and it was a fairly easy climb. Our kids took lots of pictures. The views were spectacular. We saw a vortex, maybe even two! I bet if we didn't go here over Memorial Day weekend, the crowds would have been much thinner...but still...a great stop! read more
