This is a tough review to write. I love See's candies, but this event really made me sour to this specific location. I've debated whether or not to leave a review, but I think about it often. I went in to buy my husband and I a treat for Valentine's Day and at the time I was 40 weeks pregnant and just wanted to do something to make me feel good (my pregnant gals know this can be really hard to do). So I walk in and am looking around and I hear this employee say to me while my back was turned "I'm sure this is the last day you'll fit into those overalls". I stopped and was pretty appalled that someone, especially an employee, would make such a comment. I kept my back turned to her and pretended not hear her. Then, she grabbed my arm and turned me around to repeat her horrendous statement to my face. I was so shocked. I just put down what I had in my hand and walked out. I think there's an opportunity to remind staff at this location that commenting on people's bodies is NEVER ok. On top of that, employees should never feel comfortable to touch patrons. I found the whole experience extremely uncomfortable and offensive and I will probably never go back to this specific location. read more

I mean who doesn't love See's Candies!? I always enjoy coming here and seeing what they have specific and special for the holidays. I mean I also enjoy getting a free chocolate too! At times it can get busy but there is still plenty of space inside! I recently found out that they make and sell Strawberry Medallions, and they are absolutely delicious!! They are so tasty and so flavorful that you can't stop eating them. My mouth is just watering just thinking about those sweet treats!! The employees there are always so nice and helpful. My Mother used to buy me candies from See's, so I have a special place in my heart for this business. I particularly like the shiney white wall panels, inside and out. It all feels very cool and serene, if a bit clinical. - Sometimes it can get crowded, and the wait can extend, as the person in front of you buys fifty different candies, one at a time. The staff are generally efficient, but sometimes I detect a bit of testiness in their manner. As to the candies, for me it is always the dark chocolate creams. And the dark fudge [be sure to ask them to cut it into sections]. And the "birthday cake" candies covered in multicolor sprinkles. The customer service at this location horrible. This specific shop is located in Grossmont center by Panera bread. Directly across from Macy's. Regrettably I frequent sees quite of often.... I love their chocolate. But this location is terrible. There's always a loooong line and 1 person working. And I get that the 1 person is overwhelmed but dang... sooo rude. This is an awesome See's Candy. Not only did they have everything I wanted in store, they had a bunch of new items as well! I have been going to See's for years and love to bring back a few boxes for family when I come back to Florida. This time, we got 5 1/2 pound boxes and a few other things. The lady helping us was so nice and patient and let my nephew have whatever free piece of chocolate he wanted. She was very patient as my sister and I planned out all of the boxes for people who live different kinds of candy. The store was clean as pretty much any See's I have been to is. It feels a bit more modern inside though and it felt bright. We did not feel rushed at all and were able to get everything we wanted. I will likely return to this location. Let me start off by stating that I don't really like chocolate, but my better half does. We go this See's location every once in a while when she feels like getting chocolate. The selection is really good, and according to her the quality is too! During one of our visits I tried a sample Toffee-ette. I do like nuts, especially almonds, and this is how See's describes the Toffee-ette: "Little nuggets of rich Danish butter toffee and roasted almonds smothered in See's creamy milk chocolate...topped off with even more crunchy almonds." The combination of flavors is fantastic and I really like the crunch of these little candies. As I don't really care for the other chocolates I learned that you can buy Toffee-ette in a resealable one pound can for $21.00. As I only eat one or two at a time at most, a couple of times a week, a tin lasts me for well over a month. These Tofee-ettes should probably not be eaten more at a time because the sugar content is high and the fat content even higher. Still one of the candies in the morning with a hot cup of black coffee made with freshly ground beans is a real treat! As for the store, I like the retro look and uniforms the employees wear. The store is always clean, selection is always available (as far as I can tell) and the service is always friendly. So, if you don't really like chocolate, but like nuts, try these little nuggets! read more

See's. Oh yah, for decades this has been a dependable great place for yummy boxed chocolates. Great quality ingredients. ...omgosh, as I write this, I just remembered I used to buy handfuls of Sees suckers and sell them back in junior & high school! (Many, many, many moons ago...) Oh yah. Probably for 15¢ each back then!!! Now they're almost a dollar each. But I think the best chocolates here are the California Brittle. That's it right there. SO good! The chocolate covering on the outside is layered just right. Then when you bite it, the brittle inside doesn't break your teeth. It chunks nicely and it's buttery and caramel-toffee with pieces of toasted almonds that are easy to crunch on. But you don't want to chew it all too much. You gotta let it melt in your mouth, all those flavors and textures of sweet n salty together. Then finish crunching it all down. Haha So yummy!! Well every Christmas, I have to get a boxful of the California Brittle for one of our daughters-in-law. She loves them. But, I get plenty so she can share it with us! And then I also can't forget an assortment of the suckers for stockings. My favorite is the caramel. Then the chocolate. So I would give See's (5) stars if it wasn't for the prices. They're kinda steep. Yah, if I could get out the door under $50 for the candies I noted above, I'd do well. And yet, I come back! This is a nice See's Candies. I came in to pick up a few items for some friend's stocking stuffers. I was greeted when I walked in, and I think the little old lady was startled when I answered her question on how I had been. She did ask, so I went over and explained how my day went. I started by picking up a few Mint Cream Lollypops for .80 a piece. I do with they had a deal where perhaps you buy six and you get one free or something. Also, I picked up a couple of bags of the Dark Chocolate Foil Balls. They are a little pricey at $6.40, but they are very good. For me, I just had to buy a bag of their famous seasonal cashew brittle smothered in a buttery white chocolate. This stuff is winner! At the register, the little old lady did not ask me anymore questions, but rung me up with a big smile on her face, so I winked and said thank you my dear and walked out. What's not to love?! See's is the best chocolates ever. Grossmont Center is now the closest since they closed Mission Valley. Everyone is nice and pleasant. Of course you always get a free sample to taste. They often have specials and they give you a $5 coupon for the next time you shop and spend more than $30. Easy to do if you do hand selection. I remember shopping See's for $7.50 a pound. It's now $23 a pound. Still the best. This store is near the Target in the mall. read more

Walked by and decided to come in and check out the chocolates. The lady behind the counter greeted us Hi! She was friendly! It was cool to see so many chocolates! The lady offered us a sample of the chocolate peanut bar. The truffles behind the glass looked delicious! So many flavors from chocolate to white chocolate truffles. Truffles are my favorites. I don't care for the other stuff. They also sell lollipops and smaller packs for a little cheaper than getting a massive box. We just ended up browsing. I really wanted some milk chocolate truffles. Maybe next time. At least I got to sample a piece of chocolate with peanuts on top. Place was clean and organized. Place is located inside the Grossmont Center mall. Lured in by coupon I received in the mail, I came in to do some Easter shopping. Yeah, I know I could go to the one on Rosecrans and get the discount, but this one is so much closer to my house, and I'm lazy. I just love coming in here and smelling the chocolate. Ah, the free samples and the ladies are always so happy to see you. And bonus, at Easter time they have those adorable little hollow eggs that are filled with white chocolate chicks. Plus the marshmallow eggs, yum. I mean, uh, yeah I was shopping for my kid. This is probably a smaller location, but they always seem to have everything in stock. I absolutely love See's Candies. I have been a fan as long as I can remember. They offer a wide variety of different chocolates so there is something to suit everyone. They even offer pre-packaged sugar free if you need it. My all time favorite are the scotchmallow and the almond square however this one is now only a limited candy and only available at select times of the year. Also, who doesn't love the lollipops. This store in particular is a very nice store. It's always clean and the workers are very friendly. I've always been offered a sample as soon as it's my turn in line and when I or my son haven't liked the sample they always offer another. On our last visit we bought about 6 boxes of chocolates and the lady helping us was wonderful. My son even saw a chocolate he wanted and she stopped for a minute to give him a chocolate he wanted. I tried to pay at the register like the white blonde in front of me, but when she was done with her purchase I was told to get in line behind all the customers that wanted to build custom boxes. I had to leave to bring my son to work, so I didn't have the choice to wait. I said I had to leave and the balding guy with glasses behind the counter said, "that's fine." and turned around. There was another salesperson already helping people choose, so he could have rung me up. Outside I even asked the blonde lady if she was told to wait and she said that she didn't and was surprised to hear the cashier say that to me. I feel so humiliated. read more

Great little shop. Very clean. Well merchandised. We were the only two customers at See's on a Friday afternoon and there were two older ladies working the store. Then it suddenly filled up with people. A customer who approached the counter just before us ordered 2 pounds of custom selected candy and other items and needed to have them gift wrapped. We had a pretty long wait in line because there was just one employee to take care of the one customer in front of us and the 8 after us. We had time to spare but a lady behind us was annoyed and left in a huff. I'm not sure what happened to the second employee, but if would have been more efficient if she'd been at the counter to help the crunch of customers. read more

On this lovely Sunday afternoon 7-22-18 I had this sudden urge to get some delicious chocolate. I decided to go to See's candies to get a pound of chocolate. You can always count on the quality of the chocolate at See's but you can't say the same for customer service. This is not the first time I have received bad customer service here. I came in again to give them another chance because I don't want to have to drive all the way to Parkway Plaza to get See's Candies. I have NEVER in my LIFE felt more DISCRIMINATED than I did today. I knew what I wanted so I pick up a pound of nuts and chew chocolate box. I waited in line patiently, then I see a customer go to the cash register to pay so I go too because I was not going to buy any separate chocolate. There was only one person helping people out, I understand she was busy. She rang up the lady in front of me, once she was done with her she took one look at me and said "who is next." I said I only need to pay for this. But she didn't even make eye contact with me. She proceeded to help the white lady that was next to me. By the way there were only 3 customers including myself each with their partner. So she wasn't overwhelmed with 5 or more customers. She rang me up after she was done helping the lady which took her about 10 mins just to decided what chocolates she wanted. Oh and she ever so kindly offered me the sample chocolate the lady touched but didn't want! WTF!! I felt completely humiliated and belittled. I stayed when in reality I should have left and not spent any money at this establishment. I left disappointed and disgusted at the world we live in. Needles to say I lost my craving for See's chocolate. She could of simply rang me up and I could of been on my way. Oh and please don't try and tell me this is not how it works. I have gone to different See's Candies and if you only have the box of chocolates and are not buying any separately then you can pay and not have to wait in line. Yes this was with one worker in the store too. Well that's that and I will just get my chocolate fix at Chuao Chocolatier even if I have to go all the way to Carlsbad!! It's pretty hard to walk past the See's candy store without stopping in for a free sample. The problem is I feel guilty eating the free samples if I don't buy something, so I usually end up spending around eight or ten dollars on a few goodies. My oldest daughter who lives in Texas enjoys coming in here to pick up a few of the caramel type lollipops, a childhood favorite. I grew up with Fanny Farmer candy back in Michigan and learned pretty quickly that See's was the Fannie Farmer counterpart on the west coast. Because I try not to eat too much chocolate and decadent candy I try to resist coming in, but I sure enjoy the heck out of it when I do. Stopped by to pick up some chocolate for Mother's Day and I got to the door at 6 when John, an employee was locking the door. It was me and another lady and her daughter waiting as well. I had told the lady that I am there to pick up some stuff for Mother's Day. John approached the door and as he unlocked the door to tell us that he's closed, the lady that was waiting before me said "please let him in and don't worry about me and my daughter, we can go else where, we feel bad that he made the trip to get something for his mom". John ended up letting the three of us in and helped us all. I asked him if he can mix and match for two pounds of chocolate and he was fast at it. Thank you John for accommodating!
