With everything going on today, what with stuff like INFLATION, cost of living, gas prices going up and up and up some more, a nice yummy meal at such a low price that it almost feels wrong (these days at least) is extremely hard to come by. NOT AT THE GROCERY OUTLET THOUGH!!!! They currently have 10 oz. New York strip steaks on sale for 5.99 each. And let me tell you, they sure are tasty! Some of the best I've had lately tbh! Anyways, my point is, I bought two steaks, sides, salads, and beverages for my hunny and I for less than 20 dollars! That's a fraction of what we would have spent had we gone out to eat, and it takes not even a half hour to prepare it. Thank you Santee Grocery Outlet!!!! I've been shopping at this Grocery Outlet for somewhere around ten years. I usually come here once, often twice a month. My complaint isn't with the offerings and I'm pretty tolerant of the shabby customer service from the increasingly surly young women working there as cashiers. But tonight's experience was so obnoxious, I wanted to warn other customers and encourage them to shop at one of the many other Grocery Outlets in the area. I went up to the counter and greeted the young lady. (Silence) I had half a dozen items in my cart and a six-gallon pack of water. I asked her if she needed one of the bottles to scan. She looked the other direction and waved her hand at me like I was a fly buzzing around her head. She totaled everything up and I paid. As I started to walk away, she said "Wait! I didn't ring up the water. My bad." Okay, fine, you're treating me like crap, you've made an entirely avoidable mistake after I offered to help you, but hey, no problem. So she rings up the water and tells me the total - it was over $30!!! I said, "No, I don't think that's right." She pointed to the screen like I was an idiot. I said, "Wait, you're charging me $1.49 CRV per bottle?!? That should be something like ten cents per bottle, shouldn't it? Did the state recently raise the CRV? And Crystal Geyser is only $1.39 per bottle. How could six bottles of water cost thirty bucks?" She told me with absolute certainty (and more than a little impatience) that was the correct total adding "It costs that much everywhere!" So I said, "Okay, well, I'll just put it back because I can't afford five dollars a bottle for water." So I put it on another case of water where the display read, "Crystal Geyser, $1.39/gallon." I wished her a good night and she just scowled at me as she rang for a manager. I got as far as the shopping carts outside when I saw the manager approach. So I went back in and asked, in all sincerity, "Did the CRV really go up to $1.49 per plastic bottle? That's more than the water itself." At first the manager took the young lady's side and I said, "Okay, this is news to me" before she corrected herself to say the young woman rang me up for an entirely different case of 24 bottles and the CRV for THAT was $1.49 for the case. She then told me the Crystal Geyser was $1.39 before adding "Plus ten cents per bottle, so that's $1.49 out the door!" I replied, "Yeah, I know. You two have a nice evening!" No apology, no sign of regret for treating me - inexplicably - like I'm a moron and not an ounce of humility for such a glaringly stupid mistake! At what point did people give up all semblence of critical thinking skills that they would be supremely confident a bottle of water costs as much as a gallon of gas?!? At no point did this young lady even consider that a mistake had been made. She just glared at me like I was the problem. My hand to Christ, I don't want to complain! I don't! And as someone who has worked as a public servant for 40+ years, I'm very tolerant of service workers who are a little unfriendly because, hey, we all have bad days, right? But f*** me! You want to first treat me with indifference, then with annoyed arrogance and then you have the audacity to try to convince me water costs five bucks? I blame this sort of intellectual bankruptcy on Trump. We're becoming a nation where not only do the simplest of facts not matter, but critical thinking skills have been replaced with smug, fact free narratives where something is true as long as someone wants it to be true. read more

Grocery Outlet is definitely not the store to do the majority of your household shopping. They carry some basics that are always on the shelves, like their own brands of cheese and some paper products. The rest of the stock rotates frequently with items that were ordered too much of or items about to expire. This is fine by me as I know this walking into the store and I am careful with what I purchase. If you look around you will find good prices on refrigerated items like coffee creamer or coffeemate cold foam, sometimes for as low as $0.99, frozen wontons that would be $8.99 at another store and $4.99 at Grocery Outlet, Jams for under $4. There are always deals to be found, you just have to spend the time looking around. I have always found this location to be neatly organized an the employees are friendly. There is ample parking. This is one of my favorite Grocery Outlet locations. read more

Went to Grocery Outlet Bargain Market (can you say it without singing the jingle?) in Santee to replenish my supply of almonds and assorted nuts and beef sticks. Sadly, on this trip that aisle didn't have its usual plentiful stock. Not much choose from. Moved on to the dairy case where we did find a TON of great cheeses. Out of all the grocery outlets, this one is definitely one of my favorites. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted with such a positive attitude--especially from Cassandra C. She is always very polite, welcoming, and kind. She greets me when I arrive and always lets me know she'll see me next time when I leave. I love this location! It's a huge store, with a whole side of an aisle dedicated to healthy eating. And, when the half-gallon of well-made ice cream with quality ingredients is priced at $2.99, you can do both! The water bottle pictured was priced at $7.99 - well worth the money. And there were square and clear storage containers, which I'm sure were knock-offs of Oxo, for $2.99 each. The quality is excellent, and a ton of moola saved! There's disabled and family parking directly in front of the store. Plus, it's in a strip mall with the 99 cents only and BevMo stores. So, you can get a lot accomplished within a few steps. Ring the bell! One of the nice things about this Santee location is that they ring a bell and shout out how much money you saved if it's over a 100 dollars. As with all Grocery Outlets the inventory is basically the same at all locations with some unique items found at certain stores. Each store also stocks a few locally made product. Here are a few I found at this location. - Oasis Bread (made in San Marcos) - BoochCraft (made in Chula Vista) If you've never been to a Grocery Outlet before you should.. You'll be surprised what you can find here. Tip - A good life lesson for you kids would be to visit .99 city next door and then Grocery Outlet. The people that were shopping (stealing??) at .99 city were shady to say the least. Grocery Outlet was an Oasis with smart shoppers willing to pay a little more for quality products at great prices. *cringe* I purposely come to the Santee Grocery Outlet even though there is one closer to me in my neighborhood. Why? Because the customer service was better here. Keyword: WAS. And I spend over $140 here every time. Well my last two visits have proven me wrong. There are new cashiers(checkout clerks?) there that don't care about customer service or even answering a question when a customer asks. This cashier (I can look on the receipt and tell you the name of you're really interested) seemed dodge-y when I just asked why he had charged me twice for some "PCR" item?! After a bit of his mumbling he said he charged me for produce bags used to bag meat. My man and I bagged some chicken we bought (who wants to risk salmonella on our other groceries???) as it had some condensation from being refrigerated. Also the bags were IN the meat section with no signs that they were to charge us if we used it for meat. We used produce bags to bag our produce and were not charged for that. I understand we gotta save the world and use less plastic and drive electric cars and yada yada, but when did common courtesy go out the window? Tell us ahead of time. Put some signage up. Maybe don't put a roll of bags IN the meat section? Maybe employ people that have good communication skills and can kindly communicate to a customer that this is a new policy... especially if the customer asks or has a question? Just a few ideas... I mean give the customer a chance. I definitely was NOT trying to pull a "fast one" on the grocery owners by stealing a produce bag to use it for meat. So why not answer a question when a customer asks? Instead the cashier seemed to sneak that charge in, seemed surprised when I asked, and then mumbled to himself before finally answering with an attitude to boot! Then he messed with the register typing more things into the keyboard but it didn't seems to add any charges or take any away. Confusing? Yes! What was going on????Didn't ask because we obviously wouldn't get a straightforward answer. At this point, just wanted to pay for our groceries and leave. It's just principle of being treated nicely especially in this polarizing pandemic world. We didn't feel this way the last hundreds of times we shopped here. We pay at least $100-$170 each time we shop here; you're telling me they needed to SNEAK in 30 more cents?! This was a petty hill for the Santee Grocery Outlet to die on and now this grocery outlet goes on my list of places I will boycott and tell my friends about. Who wants to give their money to a place that has SHADY business practices??? I wonder what other costs they try to sneak in or how they try to get away with stuff on their business tax forms. Hmmm It was already bad that the homeless frequent the store in the winter when it's cold and populate the parking lot during warm, summer nights. This review is to give a compliment to an awesome cashier ( Michael) employed at the Santee Grocery Outlet. Today I witnessed the kindest behavior from Michael toward a young boy that was there shopping with his mom. While continuing to do his job as a cashier, Michael took the time to engage in a thoughtful conversation with the little boy, the look on the boys face would have literally melted your heart. Michael's compassion was so beautiful to witness. I commented to him about the conversation and told him that he most certainly made the little boys day. I typically love going to Grocery Outlet because you can find some really legit items here that would typically cost 2 or 3 times the price it's priced at. I'm new to the Santee area so I wanted to check my new local Grocery Outlet (I went to the one in Mira Mesa previously). So I was quite disappointed. Although the space is larger than the Mira Mesa location - I felt it wasn't well stocked. Perhaps it's because it's just larger?? Anywho.. I don't come here to buy produce because it is typically a 50/50 hit or miss. But this location was definitely a miss. There were bags of carrots that were already molded and still on the shelves.. total bummer. Also.. it's a bit "dirtier" than the one I'm used to in Mira Mesa. I can't rate this location too hard because it still has cool novelty items that I would just have to check in on occasion.. but it is what it is. read more

Prepare to be profiled by employees whenever they feel like it. I went by work to purchase some ciders and waited in line and witnessed 4 customers ahead of me in two lanes, none of the 4 were asked for ID. I stepped forward and was asked for ID because i had just shaved and was wearing a Deadpool jacket. I did not have ID because I had a delivery the previous night that required it and forgot on my table at home. It's helpful to know that I had been in previously approximately 7 times and purchased alcohol with ID in pocket and was never asked for it ( I hadn't shaved), im to tired to ride back with ID as i just worked 9 hours. This location definitely has that wherehouse feel. I came in to pick up some advertised organic eggs but of course they out and did not expect anymore. Story of my life. Anyways, I settled for a lesser brand for a similar price. I did check out a number of items but so many of their items were set to expire so it was not worth purchasing given I would end up throwing them out by the end of the week if I did not use them. So, I pass on items such as sliced cheese, sliced ham, and even some almond milk and others. The eggs still had a good ten days which I would use those up in a few days, so that was all good. I do recommend that you check for expiration dates on the items that are on sale here. Be a smart shopper. Honestly idk why we never went here. We found very good, quality items here and it felt cheaper than even Walmart. Sure there are a couple things they could have more variety of, but we can get 90% of our weekly shopping done here and we saved a chunk of money. I have been to a couple other Grocery outlets but this is the best. The people working here are awesome, always accommodating and very friendly. The setup makes sense and I always know where things are because they don't change things around. It's also very clean and tidy. They sell a lot of vegan products and sometimes have stuff I can't find at any of my other local grocery stores like ripple yogurt. Tanya who works in the deli/ dairy section is really sweet and told me if I ever have any requests to let her know so she can order it the next time she sees it. The store is well stocked but not overstocked. Everything is priced well and there's a great variety, especially vegetarian foods. It's clean and it smells clean, too. The cashiers and managers are always present and respectful. I always enjoy shopping here. From time to time, they will put things on a discount cart and the items are still very fresh. You can tell the managers and staff take great pride in serving us and it seems to be busier now that we are all watching what we spend. read more

I don't recommend coming to this place. I shopped here a few times because it is cheap and you can find Decent cheap groceries. But unfortunately this mom and pop store need to get it together. They sale expired products for a penny almost just so they can make a sell, never have the correct pricing (could be a price but different product). And only have 1 cashier in the morning seems like she works everyday by herself. A very nice girl though and always gives great customer service. I seen staff attack a man because they thought he was stealing because he looked homeless in front of customers literally. They should also learn the law about putting their hands on customers. This store opened last summer and it was kind of strange that the first time I came here a few months ago there was no Yelp listing, I had to add it myself. It's a decent size and they are located right next to a BevMo. There is plenty of parking here as it's in a shopping center with other stores. They do have a larger frozen section than other Grocery Outlet stores. Other than that it looks pretty much the same. Obviously you'd need to check the dates on anything you purchase. I do this everywhere I shop. I mostly just buy products for my sons school lunch. They don't have a lot of anything else that interests me. The produce selection is so small that I don't really see the point, I prefer Sprouts anyway. The one thing I will say about this store in comparison to others that I've been to is the customer service. It's not as good here. Every time I've been here it's just been lackluster. I've never been greeted, I've never been thanked, no one has ever smiled, they just seem like it's the last place they want to be. It's a sharp contrast to the store in Casa de Oro, where the service is always consistently great. read more

Every GO Bargain Market is independently owned and operated, so selections are typically not the same as another location. Stock is usually fairly low as well, not sure if it's due to pricing or just irregular/low ordering quantities, since they purchase overstock. Plastic bags are $0.15 vs the more regular $0.10. I went shopping at grocery outlet as I was checking out, I asked the cashier about what my neighbor told me about spending $30 and getting a punch on a punch card. She look at me with confusion as I kept asking her about this program. After she was finished with my groceries, she told me about the program. My bill came to $29.96, 4 cents shy of the $30. It was my first time at this grocery outlet location today and I was quite impressed with how much bigger this location was compared to the El Cajon one. The items are similar, but this location might have had just a little more. I was shocked to see my favorite ice cream here and the price shocked me! Halo top is my favorite guilt free treat and they had a box of 4 of them for $6 here! The cashier I had was very friendly and helpful in showing me where some things I forgot were. Bought rotten seafood (bags of frozen shrimp). (Peeled and deveined). Got home and took them out to defrost and was so rancid fishy and had poop veins still in them. False advertising as this was a special on their weekly add. Took the frozen bags back to the store the next day explaining the rancid fish and feces, "sorry covid, cant help you, can'take them back, store policy we don'ttake food back". The Manager should not be a manager. I spent hard earned money. The one time the owner wasn't present, of course. By the way the cashier was so pleasant and tried to help out and apologized. Made a pit stop on my way home for a few things and decided to try Grocery Outlet for the first time. When I pulled up I noticed a Veteran Parking stall in the lot right in front of the store. As an honorably discharged combat vet with a disability rating (but no handicap plate) I was incredibly moved by this. Aside from that; the store is clean, well organized, and has great deals. I have been meaning to write a review about how great the shopping experience is here. Last night I came in, and as always, was beyond impressed with the customer service I received. Josh was the checkout clerk helping me, and I really appreciated how friendly and personable he was, and the fact that he kindly requested that other shoppers pull their masks back up over their noses. I have seen him do this in the past with less than reasonable reactions from the customers, and he maintained his level of professionalism and assertiveness.
