Simply amazing and exceptional customer service. I was pleasantly greeted as I walked in and helped right away. The staff members that helped me was Gigi, Jose and Dana. These folks truly like their job as they kindly gave samples to both kids and adults while working. I was able to catch their names as it was displayed on a pin on their shirt. An oldie but goodie chocolate store! Been around for years but is still competing with other chocolatiers that maybe more hip and exquisite to the foodie chocolate lover pallet. This chocolate is great for the price point and of course they have their well know lollipops and other staples that others aren't as know for. I went to See's to purchase some candy for my friend in Finland. I was served by Lauren K. Lauren was so sweet and thoughtful. I told her I was taking the candy to Finland and she asked if I wanted her to put a California's best sticker and also a little gold wrap around bow on the boxes. Came in for a few things for Father's Day and it honestly was a terrible experience. The man with glasses working the gift wrap section was rude and made me feel so unwelcomed and uncomfortable being there. I ended up having to rewrap everything I purchased given the wrapping was done with no care in the world. I get working the day before Father's Day is hectic and overwhelming, but you should never treat customers as poorly as he did. I'm truly disappointed. read more

See's candies is the best when it comes to chocolate making. My mom would probably disagree with me, she like Godiva, but I think it's bland. See's is a local to the Bay Area, they produce their chocolates in South San Francisco along El Camino. There is a candy shop, sadly you can't tour the factory, just buy from the source. The Hillsdale location is a good place to buy because I've never had a bad experience here. It can get busy around the holidays, I try to go in the off season. I really enjoy See's. Since moving here from England a year ago I have really been missing GOOD Chocolate and See's is the only chocolatier I have found so far that even comes close to satisfying my chocolate cravings. Tucked away behind the Disney store in Hillsdale shopping centre it's fairly small but they do all the usual stuff you can find on the website and of course the counter where you can pick from dozens of tasty creations to make up your own box. Yay! No more being left with half a box of chocolates you don't like, only dusting off the box and eating some questionably old chocolates when you get really desperate! Seeing reviews for this and other store's I see a lot of 'It's expensive's'. Serious?? You can pick up a one pound of box (in my experience 22-25 chocolates depending on what you get) for just $16:50. That's around 70c a piece and a damn cheap if you ask me. Compared to other places (take the local Sharona's for example) where smaller chocolates can be individually priced at anywhere are up to $3:50 each and nowhere near as good. Or go to Costco and pick up a gift card - 2 x one pound boxes for $25.99, Bargain. Plus - FREE Samples! This store looses 1 star as it isn't quite as good or well staffed as the SSF location. One sales staff all on his own on a Saturday afternoon. Poor guy. read more

This is a great See's candies. Not too busy and there always seems to be such friendly workers when I come! I came here with my mom today, September 29, around 5:30pm. We were so impressed with the gentleman who helped us. His name was Daniel M. and he was awesome! He not only asked us if we wanted samples, but also gave us suggestions based on the chocolates we ordered. I ordered 2 cups of the peanut butter patties and Daniel asked me if I was a peanut butter fan, then suggested the peanut butter crunch and offered me a sample. (The peanut butter crunch was delicious BTW! A must try!) He gave us soooo many samples and we loved his suggestions! It was great trying new things and not ordering the same chocolate all the time. I wanted to take a moment to compliment an employee of the Hillsdale Mall Sees Candy, Daniel. We entered the store to purchase a hand selected box of candy. When Daniel asked "What free sample would you like?" I was a bit shocked. Normally the clerks offer what they have on hand. When I told him that I like caramels he went into the back of the store to retrieve some that had just been delivered. This gave me a glimpse of his level of service. As he carefully arranged my two pound box, he continued with pleasant and genuine conversation. I have enjoyed Sees my entire life, but in this day and age, encountering Daniel's level of 'old world service' is a breath of fresh air. 4 stars for this particular See's. Mom, sis, cousin & I came in here. I ate so many chocolates while I was in the store. The lady gave each of us a sample. I ate 2, one of my mom's & my own. They were both gross, one was a cordial cherry & another of some weird coconut, I don't know. Then...while we were choosing our box of chocolates, 3 out of 4 of us chose another chocolate to sample to see if we wanted to add it in our box. I wanted to try more because I really didn't know what I wanted, but didn't want to appear greedy or a free loader. During the process of choosing various chocolates to add to the box, the line started to form, a long line I might add. At least 6 people were in line with only one worker. When we paid, another worker came out to help the other lady. Okay, 5 stars now for the patience & many free samples of chocolate. read more

For those of you who have never experienced See's Candies, let me speak broadly of any store you might walk into: It is a return to the womb. It's a happy place, a nurturing place, a place with a portrait hanging on the wall of a kindly woman who built an empire out of chocolate and put a little white picket fence around it and hung a birdfeeder from the apple tree. But let's say you don't like the mall. In fact, you don't like stores. No problem. Order online, or by mail through their catalog. Send it to yourself or send it to someone you really like a lot. But if you are in Hillsdale Shopping Center, you'll notice that Godiva is right out there while See's is tucked around the corner here. All the better for you. Imagine this: women in white aprons smiling and giving out samples. Not the samples where the thing is cut in quarters, drying out on the platter, and you have to use a toothpick to protect yourself from all the people who've breathed on it during the past hour. No, at See's you get a whole piece of candy, pristine, pure - and you can choose it. There is more than chocolate here, if you prefer candies such as the apricot or coconut or lemon pink and yellow non-chocolate candies. There's peanut brittle, suckers of various flavors and hues, and other...erm...non-chocolate things. I don't know a lot about them, but I've seen them, and I'm glad they're there for the people who like them. But one great thing about See's is that many if not most of their chocolates come in a milk chocolate and a dark chocolate version. The store itself is always clean, orderly, and filled with delicious chocolates and candies. Get those pink and yellow and green smooshy ones at Easter with the gel-like filling that's rolled in those tiny hard candy balls. Pass out See's suckers as party favors. Celebrate births and birthdays. Buy a pound and do what my daughter did - have it gift wrapped, just so you can open it up and eat it yourself. Bring a gift to dinner. Help keep that long-distance relationship going with a gift certificate tucked into a romantic card. In conclusion, I would like to thank you for reading this far. Clearly I have a lot of pent-up feelings about chocolate that needed to be released. Anyway - while it's not Willy Wonka's Factory, See's has a wonderful selection of candies and chocolates, and you don't have to contend with the squirrels and geese and passive-aggressive staff that are tone-deaf but sing incessantly anyway. read more

Oooooh, See's! Whenever I see a little See's shop or a cart in a shopping center or the airport, I can't help but be reminded of home! Growing up, this See's Candies location is one place that my parents + I frequently stopped at when we went to the mall. They always had some new seasonal yummyness to drool over + the nice old ladies were often giving out free samples to passersby! The store is always run by such kind women who remind me of a grandmother with their kind voices + slow, careful motions in packing your perfect box of chocolatey goodness. You can customize your own box of specialty chocolates by the pound or buy a pre-packed box, + they will even gift wrap it nicely for you in their traditional white signature wrap or in one of their seasonal options as well. The candy isn't fancy or European or particularly expensive like Godiva, but at the same time it isn't your everyday common Hershey's chocolate that you can find anywhere. They only sell at their own locations, which are primarily located on the West Coast. Besides their individual specialty chocolate, chocolate bars + seasonal novelty items, they sell a pretty wide variety of other sweets like lollipops, jelly beans, candy canes, nuts + peanut brittle as well. The prices are reasonable for whatever quantity you're getting + they have something to suit everyone's taste. Some of my favorites are the Marshmallow-filled chocolate Hearts / Eggs / Christmas Trees + the hollow chocolate Easter Eggs that come with a little white-chocolate chickie inside! My Dad is also a big See's fan because they can custom-make extra large holiday baskets of holiday products that he can give to his colleagues + See's gives him a good discount for them. I've spotted the Grinch who stole Christmas. He's the crabby old man who works at this See's in Hillsdale Mall. Looked like he hated his job and gave us such attitude when we asked him to wrap up a box of chocolates for us. We've only had wonderful friendly experiences at See's at all locations previous so this shocked us and left a strong negative taste.
