Most of my experience was good. One of the techs was totally condescending when I told her I was going to run out of the drops over the weekend (absolutely essential following surgery) and told me she was sure I wasn't and I had to get very firm to get the drops I needed. I would have liked to have a team I knew and they rotate people depending on the day of your service but I felt I got good care from most of them. I liked optometrist, Dr. Coombs, very much but he went on vacation and the 2 follow-up optometrists could not or did not answer why I had a smudge in my left eye's vision which my personal optometrist answered immediately. The improved vision in my eye is phenomenol and I felt well-treated by the 2 surgeons which of course is the most important thing. I am now getting flooded with requests for feedback. I started to answer the emailed one but they started by asking for personal infx and I know, as I am a psychologist, that this is not a good way to get the best and most honest information. Since then, I have been getting calls from Nexus Health. They don't leave a message and when I called no one answered the phone. I had no idea who they were. Today I was by the phone and answered and it was Nexus Health for Pacific Cataract etc. who wanted to ask me 8 minutes of questions and of course it wasn't anonymous. She interrupted me repeatedly while I explained I had found the calls from Nexus Health disturbing since I had no way of knowing Nexus Health was associated with Pacific Laser and I thought it might be some lab test or something and I had no way to get infx from them. Ironically, my good feelings about Pacific Cataract and Laser are being diminished by their heavy-handed attempts to get "feedback" while violating my privacy.

Following my surgery - AFTER - I was asked to sign a form saying that I understood what the costs "would" be! Screwy. No one apologized for their mistake. Supppose I couldn't cover the increase? Could easily happen to another senior - wait months for an appointment, only to have to cancel. And you're not allowed to drive yourself there, so you'd also have to call your friend or family member to bring you back home, all for nothing.

Updating my review in honor of Women's history month. Let me start by saying this- this review will…read moreprobably sound like I am personally friends with the business owner- I am not but wish I was. I met McKenzie by running into her shop ten minutes before closing time, racing over after work to get my broken glasses repaired. i was fully prepared to pay the repair fee posted on the website- she insisted it wasn't that big of a fix and wanted to do it for free. When I insisted on paying, she charged me $3. I have gone back several times for glasses fittings and repairs and she never charges. Most recently I came in with a bunch of glasses to see how different they were from the new script I received from the eye doctor . She so kindly tested every single one. I was prepared to finally pay her for her kindness by buying a pair of sunglasses or at least sunglass lenses, and she acted with the most integrity I have seen from a business owner in ages. She said that despite none of the prescriptions being the exact same there was one pair of sunglasses that were close enough that for sunglasses which are more forgiving I wouldn't notice a difference and that if she were me she wouldn't bother buying new ones. She absolutely could have sold me a pair of sunglasses- it was again right at closing time and instead she helped me out and did not charge a penny. I don't know how she stays in business but I am so glad she is. I think its worth the cost to go somewhere that is doing it right. The prices are high because her costs are high- she has what is likely a razor thin margin. Unfortunately because she does not have an optometrist or ophthalmologist on staff she can't bill insurance, but for those without vision insurance or looking for an extra pair etc- I would highly recommend Capital Eyes/ McKenzie and her adorable shop puppy. 10/10 service, a decent selection and she is so great at making recommendations (she had customers buying glasses the last time I went in so I got to watch her in action).

To summarize, in 1999 I was a 15 year old high school athlete. One day playing soccer, my vision disappeared for 5-10 minutes. This became a routine thing every 2-3 days, without any given trigger or correlation. I went to my family practice doctor, allergist, neurologist, ophthalmologist, and finally a neurosurgeon (too see if it was related to an eye issue I was born with). I was given many answers of what it "could" be.... Over a 2-3 year period, I tried 5-6 different medications, all with limited efficacy, and a plethora of side effects. Eventually I learned to deal with the issue, as the medications weren't worth the high cost, or side effects. Life was rough, but manageable (going blind every 2-3 days without warning). After a single visit with Dr. Robin Moore in 2004, she was able to help identify what was causing my visual issue. And more importantly, what was triggering the issue. I was able to change my habits, change my diet, and the issue has all but dissipated since. I have not seen Dr. Robin Moore since my single 2004 visit (I moved to LA after graduating UW), but I will soon visit her, to thank her. That one visit changed my life. I've told my story many times. I'm still very much in debt to her! And very much appreciate her help!

I am taking a moment to leave a positive comment (not to air some perceived grievance), because I…read morethink KP deserves applause! I want to express my deep appreciation for the high quality of medical care that Kaiser Permanente offers, and then expertly delivers. I have a ridiculous number of health problems. Virtually every system is a mess, which means that I also have raging depression and anxiety, as a bonus. But Kaiser Permanente takes excellent care of me. I see a group of doctors, and each specialist is well-versed on the various conditions I have. Due to the efficiency of having my constantly-updated medical charts and prescription lists easily accessible to every specialty, each doctor participates in coordinated care, geared to my needs. Each takes into consideration what the other doctors are doing, before recommending changes that could have an adverse ripple effect. At KP, I am treated as a whole person, not just as the sum of my broken-down parts. I'm so very grateful to be treated there with respect and kindness. Just walking from one area to another, you see smiles and hear words of encouragement throughout the building! If you'd like to have skillful and respectful care, I can't recommend Kaiser Permanente high enough. It's easier to trust doctors who listen intently and then will explain options, rather than those who always seem to be in a rush. MY experience with KP has been that I'm made a part of the discussion before treatment decisions are made. Kaiser P doctors understand that patients should be informed enough to be able to weigh in on their options. I'm confident that my care has been guided by intelligence, diligence, and a genuine desire to help me. The doctors and therapists of Kaiser Permanente have repeatedly gone the extra mile in the pursuit of the best possible solutions. Getting coordinated care is everything to me, since I'm considered "medically fascinating." At KP, I feel seen and heard, which has not always been the case in the past. I love the clear, concise, easy-to-use patient portal. I can check on my lab tests, get added medical information, change appointments, or send and receive messages quickly and easily. I use the portal to contact Kaiser's mail-order pharmacy, requesting refills when it's convenient to me. It allows me to research any prescription, or to pose a question for either a pharmacy tech or a friendly pharmacist. Everything is delivered right to my door, without shipping costs and I can pay my portion online, too. In addition, Kaiser's patient portal allows me access to medical care, 24 hours a day, just by using my phone. I can choose to talk to a nurse, or an on-call doctor, immediately. For less urgent matters, I can schedule a virtual visit appointment, or choose to see a doctor at one of the convenient locations. The portal is secure and gives me far more privacy than going into a doctor's office, and trying to give personal info to a receptionist (without the fear of informing everyone in the waiting room, as well.) I hope I never have to change my health insurance again, because Kaiser Permanente has been an answer to my prayers. They're the BEST, because the doctors, nurses, assistants, techs and office staff etc. are warm and eager to help. So I am very grateful for the first-rate, personalized care I've been given, since switching insurance providers nearly 3 years ago. Thank you, Kaiser Permanente!

But IDK what happened: sometime after the pandemic, say 2023, things changed drastically. I started getting shuttled around with different physicians. At one point I ended up with the flu. During my visit for treatment, they took blood and the sample came back contaminated (possible sepsis). I reflected on the procedure and realized the tech didn't sterilize the site before they drew. So I'm sent off to the hospital down the street, and after an overnight I get cleared and released. Visits to other specialists, when you could get them, just didn't feel like before, so you have to think that the medical crisis hit them pretty hard. But still. Overall, disappointing, but I'm with another plan now.
