I sent in a 40-year old Seiko watch for routine movement service and to investigate some chronograph buttons not seeming to work correctly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They sent me a couple emails linking to a website that didn't really tell me what they were doing except that the day after they received it they sent it back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The notes said that parts were discontinued, which I understand is reasonable. But they also said the dial is rusted and water damaged. I see no damage of any sort to the dial and the watch keeps time fine. If you can't work on the movement, that's one thing. I bought this Lassale new in 1984. The watch stopped running last month and a local jeweler quoted me ~$800 to repair. I sent it to the Seiko repair facility in Mahwah New Jersey on September 25th, 2023. I received it back on October 16, 2023 looking brand new. I have had a Seiko for a long time, and they are great. I decided to step up to a Prospex Alpinist SPDC093 with a 6R35 automatic movement. The watch arrives with a rattle. I call customer service who tells me to just get a refund. She forgot the whole "service" part of her customer service - which is to find a way to resolve the situation that would make me happy for spending almost $1k on a watch. I ask her if I could send it in to get it looked at, maybe find the loose part that is causing the rattle? She responds "sure, you could do that." After asking her how I would do that, what's the repair estimate, and what's your address, she finally gave out an audible sigh and rattled off the address, followed by, "we can't guarantee that we can fix the problem, and it could get expensive. I suggest you just call whoever sold you the watch and get a refund." After this amazing service, I am going to gamble at a local watch repair shop. Sent a Grand Seiko watch in because of water intrusion; which I specifically noted in the repair notes. After 10 weeks I received an estimate for $2000 dollars which indicated excessive rusting of the movement. The part that I find questionable was the $500 charge to repair the hands... And dial polishing. Could they have opened the watch sooner knowing water intrusion was the problem?! Again, my problem, but I found the response tardy and the charges excessive. To anyone considering purchasing a Grand Seiko watch, know that the watch itself will be excellent, but the service behind the watch is going to abysmal - from the incredibly rude customer service representatives you have to interact with all the way to the deceitful business practices they employ. Your warranty on the watch does not mean anything to them. Not only will they drag their feet and hold your watch for weeks on end, but they will claim everything is out of warranty and then charge you for every little thing - all things other luxury watchmakers wouldn't even blink an eye about covering under warranty. Just take a look at all the other reviews on yelp and other watch forums, their service has consistently angered loyal customers. Until corporate gets a handle on their service center, I cannot in good faith recommend Grand Seiko to anyone looking for a luxury watch. You are better off buying Tudor/Omega/Rolex since they will treat you as a valuable customer even after you have purchased their watch. Can't say the same about Seiko. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE SENDING YOUR WATCH TO GET REPAIRED! Even though I read through multiple bad reviews on here I convinced myself anyway that I would have an OK experience sending my watch in for repair under warranty. I have a Seiko SPB143 watch that is exactly 1 year old and purchased from a Seiko authorized dealer for $1200. It runs 35 seconds slow per day and the rotating bezel doesn't click correctly. Sent the watch in on my dime ($25) to be repaired. Watch was delivered on a Thursday and I waited 7 days with no contact before calling Seiko to check the status. They informed me the repair would be $280 and asked for my credit card number to proceed. When asked why it wouldn't be covered under warranty they said the warranty card didn't have the purchase date filled out. The AD who sold the watch stamped my warranty card but didn't fill out all the details. I told them that the watch was purchased 1 year ago so it falls well within the 3 year warranty period. They could care less and said it has to be filled out for it to be covered. I told them that model of watch hasn't even been out for 3 years, and also the serial number on the case back determines the manufacturer date which in this case was 18 months ago so it's guaranteed that the watch is within the warranty period. They could care less so I told them just to ship the watch back to me. And the icing on the cake is that they ship USPS so you get the added incompetence of the postal service who proceeded to ship my watch to Puerto Rico where it hung out for several days before making it back to the mainland and was delivered to me after a week and a half in transit. Overall just a horrible, pathetic experience with a company that obviously does not stand behind their products and couldn't give two sh*ts about their customers. Not only would I urge you to avoid sending your watch to this place, I would highly recommend avoiding the Seiko brand entirely. I actually had aspirations to purchase a Grand Seiko down the road - now there is a 0% chance that I will ever purchase another Seiko product and will tell everyone I know to avoid Seiko as well. I will post about this experience on every social media platform and watch forum out there. I will ensure that Seiko loses way more in lost business than they would have ever spent repairing my watch under warranty. I should have read the reviews. I sent my Grand Seiko in for repair of a crown and stem tube issue. I was told that they couldn't repair Grand Seikos (information on Grand Seiko's website to the contrary) and would need to pay a $150 shipping fee for the watch to be sent to Japan to get an estimate of the repair, which they could not provide me. Given the lack of any idea of what the estimate could cost, I declined the service and asked them to return the watch. That's not the worst part. When I received my Grand Seiko back, I found that they had just placed it loose in a surplus cardboard Seiko watch box. There was no plastic covering, there was no bubble wrap, there was no padding. For those of you familiar with Grand Seiko, part of the reason you'd spend Rolex money on one is for the stellar finishing. Clearly, Seiko's repair center technicians can't be bothered to distinguish between a department store quartz piece and one of their GS models. For my efforts, I was rewarded with a small dent on my bezel. Seiko offered to have the watch sent back to them so they could "polish it out," which would have resulted in some warping in the bezel that would have destroyed the crisp finishing. If you value your timepiece at all, stay away. read more

I sent two of my Seiko Kinetic watches In to the Seiko Service Center in Mahwah, NJ to have the kinetic movements repaired because neither watch would charge any longer. There was nothing wrong with the crystals or the dial or the casings. I didn't ask them to make any other changes or improvements to my watch other than just to make the watches run again. I was charged approximately $145 for the newer of my watches and approximately $127.00 (including shipping) as they insisted that the crystals were damaged as well as repair the movements. When I received my newer Seiko kinetic watch back all of the black numbers and the second black tick marks had been almost all removed. It was either swapped to give another customer my pristine dial casing with all the black numbers intact or they polished the numbers off of my watch. Either way, my watch looked very tacky when it came back and I was very disappointed. I called the company and the lady I spoke to insisted that they do not polish watches. Therefore I have to assume that another customer wanted their dial and black numbers restored on their watch and so they took my watch and gave the face of it to them and I got the other guys with all the missing numbers. I have attached a picture of the watch as I received it as well as a picture after I removed the remaining numbers and ticks so it would at least look uniformed. Unfortunately I never took a picture of it before I sent it to be repaired. I highly recommend before you send anything for service that you take a "before" picture so that you can compare it with the "after" picture. The good news is both watches run well. Evidently, the movements were properly repaired. The whole process was fairly timely. read more

If you live long enough everybody will piss somebody off. I have had Seiko clean up my two Kinetic Analog Watches for years. Every time the work was only what it needed and lasted until I beat up the crystal once again. While these watches aren't cheap they are not super expensive. I bought them because of their forecasted longevity and the watches (and customer service) have exceeded expectations. One of them is now getting a complete refurbishing. Many years have passed since I bought them and I might be dead long before Seiko can't keep them running. I wish Seiko could just keep me endlessly running too... read more

I sent my Seiko Solar X Diver in for repair, it kept stopping and I couldn't change the day of the week with the crown any more. I got it back on a Thursday 3/7/24 and on Saturday 3/9/24 it had stopped again and I could not change the day of the week using the crown. Total change was $118.50 plus my fee for shipping. If they couldn't fix it I wish they had just told me that. It isn't the most expensive watch I own but I liked it. I do not like Seiko service. read more

So, I have an orange monster dive watch which is solar. I have had this watch for many years and it stopped working. I had a jewelry store send my watch in for repair, figuring the solar battery was going dead, but they said it was the movement. After 250$ and 5 months to get it back, I wore it until I went offshore fishing and noticed moisture in the face of the watch. I went back to the jewelry store to send back to Seiko, and 3 months later I got a call finally. Seiko will not warranty moisture as they will not guarantee the seal. And now they said the movement has to be replaced again, but it will cost me 350$ before tax. What a rip off. Find somewhere else to repair your watch if you own a Seiko. My jeweler, who has been in business for 30+ years, tried to get a replacement battery for my older watch (an 18K Jean Lassale, Seiko owned). Not finding the battery through local distributors he reached out to the Seiko Service Center, in New Jersey, where he was told (EVEN AFTER sharing the brand, model and battery needed) that it had to be sent in for service. He found that quite unusual but gave me the information so that I could send the watch to be serviced. Before I sent the watch in I also called to see if I could get the battery. I was told it had to be sent in. I asked if they had parts for that particular watch (I wanted a new buckle for the strap) and I was told yes. I went to the post office, where I stood in line for 20 minutes until I got to the counter, and paid $35 to insure and ship the watch. A couple weeks later I received an email from the Service Center telling me the watch was too old and they didn't have any parts - including the battery. I reached out to ask to be reimbursed for the shipping cost (not the cost of my time) since they could have told my jeweler or me, when we each called, that the watch was old and parts, including the battery, were no longer available. The system that Seiko USA implement for warranty repairs is not secure enough for me to trust them. They gave me an address and told me to ship my $300 watch there along with the receipt and my e-mail address. Most company's will build a case and give me a repair order number to send with the item, but they didn't even ask for my name or any personal information. They didn't even ask what was wrong with the watch. (The minute hand fell off and is shaking around inside the timepiece). The lady on the phone said that they will build a case in the system after they received the watch, you know, after I no longer have the watch and receipt in my possession or evidence that I sent it to them. If I'm going to purchase a $300+ watch, I expect it to last more than one year, and if it doesn't, I expect the warranty repair to be very easy. Seiko USA makes me feel uncomfortable. read more

The Seiko Service Center in New Jersey has a D- Better Business Bureau rating. Before you decide to send your watch here for service, please read the public complaints on the Better Business Bureau site for this service center (there are a lot). Additionally, please read the Google reviews, Yelp reviews, and numerous Reddit posts regarding this service center. Apparently in the watch community, it is well known how terrible this service center is. This service center performs very poor quality work, has awful customer service, and is permanently damaging the brand reputation of Seiko. If you are looking to pay to have your watch serviced, find a business that has a good reputation and cares about their work. If you are sending your watch in here for a warranty repair, best of luck to you, but expect the worst. Do not trust this service center, they will not refund you on jobs they could not complete. I sent a Seiko 6139-6005 chronograph in because the push buttons on the side of the case did not work. I asked for the buttons to be repaired and to have the movement serviced ($215 plus shipping). When I received the watch back, the buttons did not work at all, rendering the watch useless. I was absolutely shocked that a Seiko technician would think this was acceptable. I called the service center and offered to email them photos of the buttons still stuck in the case. They declined to look at them and refused to issue a refund until the watch was back in their possession. They wanted me to send the watch back at my expense, even though they did not complete the repair. At this point, I started to read all the reviews and realized it was best to not send the watch back to them. They finally offered to pay for the return shipping after I got the Better Business Bureau involved, but I just wanted a refund and to find someone else to fix my watch. They took my money and sent back a broken watch. The customer service representatives do not care about customer service or keeping customers happy. When customers are upset with them, there is no one else they can get help from. They are the only Seiko Service Center in the USA. In 1999 I received a Seiko watch from my company for my 20th Anniversary with the company. I just celebrated 42 years and my watch stopped working this year. My local jeweler deemed the watch "unrepairable". As you can imagine there is a lot of sentimental value to me. I looked up the Seiko watch repair group and thought what do I have to lose. The 1st of December 2021 I sent to watch to the Mahwah, NJ repair center. Today, less than 3 weeks later I received my watch back working great and looks brand new. $115 plus shipping and I have my watch back. "Dear Seiko Customer Service: I received a package today for Order Number #XXXXXXX/XXXXXXXX. Item Seiko Watch SPB123 was not included. I am attaching a copy of the packing document which shows that the package only contained item SD710, a free promotional item. I immediately called customer service at 5:02 pm et and was told you were closed for the day. Per my credit card company you charged my account on December 26th for the watch . I have initiated a billing dispute with my credit card company to reverse the charges. I am extremely disappointed on several levels. First, you charged my credit card several days before shipping. Beware of this place! I sent my watch and heard nothing for almost 2 weeks. Then I got a repair estimate for more than the cost of the watch. I asked to have it returned. When I got it back, it looks like it had been sanded with sandpaper! The metal bracelet was like new when I sent it but now its all scratched and the crystal has a new scratch. Be careful using the Seiko repair service vendor in Mahwah New Jersey. I had a watch repaired last March by them that failed. I sent it back in for warranty repair after a few months along with a note in the box and an email to Barbara in customer service telling them that I needed it repaired and that I had moved from CA to TN. Barbara specifically told me to send her a note with the reason for repair and the new address and she would walk it through the repair process. I received an email with an estimate of the repairs and charges and gave approval with my credit card. Nowhere did it ask me for an address or anything else. On Dec 16th I received an email saying the watch had shipped back to me and contained a link to track it. When I clicked on it the message said It had delivered on Dec 16th to my old address. Now Seiko repair says it's my responsibility to contact the post office and to try to track my watch that they sent to the wrong place. My wife gave this to me as an anniversary present many years ago and I thought by using a Seiko recommended service company it would be in good hands. I really want this watch back but this vendor doesn't seem to care and is trying to make this into my problem, not theirs. Still nothing from Barbara at Seiko repair. read more

It seems as if the Seiko Service Center's primary objective is to ruin the brand by killing off repeat business. Sent a Seiko Sports Chronograph in for repairs. It arrived at the New Jersey facility on November 6, according to the USPS tracking system. By December 9th I still hadn't even received an acknowledgement so I called. The watch had been received and the customer service rep informed me that the repairs would cost $175, which I approved and paid by credit card. It's now December 18th and I still don't have my watch back. It was a gift from my now deceased parents. The New Jersey facility is the ONLY factory authorized repair facility. Looking at the posts of others, which mirror my own experience, I will never buy another Seiko. It's been a terrific watch and I hope that my new Tissot turns out to be as good. UPDATE 12/20/2019 My watch came home today, looking better than it has in years, and in perfect working order. This service center stinks and does very poor work. Sent a watch in for repairs and to have the watch band lengthened by adding some links. Provided them with my wife's wrist size and they were completely dumbfounded by my request. They added just one link and sent the watch back still to small for my wife to wear it. I had to send it back to them to get the simple job of adding a few links done right. Haven't gotten it back yet so it's up in the air as to what I'll get back, and they are charging me shipping and labor to fix the job they screwed up on the first time around. I send in my watch Model No. H021-8021 SEIKO Quartz, to your Service Center on September 9, 2019, fedex three day shipping , including my fedex account no. for return shipping, I have changed the Battery, the watch is working, second hand is moving but the function keys are not working. Your Manual says, a RESET is required. On September 25, 2019 I called your Service Center to find out what the problem is, since I have not been contacted. A phone number, return address was provided on our packing list. I was told that you only correspond by email but not by phone. When I ask for the repair cost I was told $ 212.85 for the installation of a new movement. I ask for the cost of a new Watch............$$$$$$, ??? so I can compare This is VERY POOR communication with a Customer and therefore I have ask to return my Watch on my fedex account. After a pit bull dog brought me off my bike, my kinetic diver's watch went bad. (As did my helmet, cleat, bike computer and me). My local watchmaker tried and failed to correct matters, after three attempts saying that the hairspring was bent and suggested I send it to Mahwah. Which I did, despite some cautionary reviews on this site. Full marks to Seiko. They were courteous on the phone, sent me an estimate and returned the watch, working perfectly, within two weeks.
