When you are standing there, you can actually hear the song in your mind. The place is well kept, and there were people there continuously stopping to take pictures. There is also a "standin ' on a corner" store, right across the street that sells items related to the song, Route 66 souvenirs, and other things. It's a large store, and the prices are reasonable. They do offer a military/veterans discount. The friendly lady was telling me that yes, they get people from around the world, coming to see the spot. The very first time I passed through Winslow many, many, many years ago, the main thing I remember, was the grinding poverty. This town still has its challenges, but Route 66, and this park, , have gone a long way in helping the revitalization of the town. This was a short stop, but a very fun stop. I'm glad I came. Our favorite was the maple walnut -- it was an excellent recommendation by the lovely woman assisting us! Our daughter loved the strawberry fudge. This shop offers so many more flavors of fudge and other yummy truffles and chocolates. They also sell every kind of candy you can imagine, including old school candy and novelty candy (think scorpion lollipops LOL). Great shop to stop by while visiting Payson. Part way through the shopping I gleaned the information that The Aunt who owned the store recently passed on, so they may not be open on weekends for awhile. The dinosaurs are huge but then so are the piles upon piles of petrified wood and other rocks surrounding the building. I believe my husband was grateful they were closed, he seemed to relax a bit more as we strolled around the perimeter!! I definitely would have loved to get my hands on some of the fine specimens they had just laying in the dirt! Everywhere we looked it said they were open the afternoon we drove through town but unfortunately it was all locked up and no sign of anybody around. Since we found it on Roadside Attractions, we treated it as such and just enjoyed the unique dinosaurs and a chance to stretch our legs! Perhaps some day we'll return and one of the beautiful rocks will come home with me!

The woman working as the cashier, who might also be the owner, was extremely nice and very friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The inside of the store had a very nice and relaxing vibe. It felt welcoming and comfortable, making it easy to take your time browsing through all the different items. I really liked the wide variety of products the store had to offer. There were stickers, magnets, food items, kitchen appliances, and many other things you could bring home as souvenirs from Flagstaff. The selection made it easy to find something for everyone. We were on Interstate 40 heading towards Albuquerque and decided to see what this Park had to…read moreoffer. We stopped at the Crystal Forest Museum, gift shop & RV Park, just outside the West Park Entrance. RV spaces are free. Yes there are no hookups but there are tables and concrete pads. Also the museum was great. What a collection of artifacts, fossils & petrified wood. The next morning we drove into the Park and stopped at the Visitors Center. This stop is a must. The displays are great and a walk among all the petrified trees in the back is amazing. We then continued our journey through the Park and thru the Painted Desert to the East Entrance. I'm old and seen pieces of petrified wood many times in my travels and have run across some pieces while hunting in the West but the quantity and the size of the pieces and trees here is amazing. If your in the area and have an hour or two to drive the 28 mile loop through this Park and are a rock fan or want to marvel at what Mother Nature can do, you should visit this National Park.
